In front of you lies a beach, the sand ivory white and the water a crystalline blue. The waves crash rhythmically, the waters calm close to the shore. Futher out, large waves rise above the swells, lingering before curling into themselves and fading away.

Across the beach, several lounge chairs are set up, umbrellas dug into the sand behind them. Various stands are set up with towels, a magical ointment to protect yourself from the lingering rays, and various other goods.

Towering above, a bored looking genasi woman in a bikini perches in a wooden stand. She twirls her firey locks, staring out with disdain toward the water. Above her is a bold lettered sign reading Lifegaurd. Below, another sign reads 'I'm not getting in to save you, figure yourself out.' The woman's casually swinging a life preserver on a rope, and it seems like that is the most she's willing to do for anyone in danger.

A tall friendly looking goblinoid bounces over, they are a vibrant green, wearing a black wetsuit, with an old (borrowed) surf board under their arm. They approach genasi on the wooden structure. "Hello! I'm Midori, nice to meet you! I'm here for surf. I was told surf is quite fun. How does one surf?"

The genasi woman stares down from her stand, ceasing her twirling. "Well, sweatheart, I don't surf myself, but I've seen plenty of people do it. You swim out with that little board of yours, and wait for a big ole wave. Then you try to get in it and stand up." She gives the goblinoid a bright, but slightly condescending smile. "Just don't expect to come crying to me if you get hurt. I'm not gonna save your ass." She taps the top of the sign with a sandaled foot.

"Okay!" Midori excitedly says. They hop right into the water awkwardly swimming out. After finding their spot they climb up on their board, and on their first try they surf smoothly on the waves [STRENGTH CHECK 18]. After surfing in Midori runs up to the friendly genasi, "Woo! That's a fun game! Have you tried it yet? It's fun!"

The woman seems amused by their antics, leaning back in her seat. She checks her nails, quickly loosing interest in her charge. She looks up in surprise when they approach her. "I'm glad you had fun," she says, obviously rehearsed. "But no, I haven't tried it. I'm not a fan of getting my hair wet."

tender ledge
#

"Suit yourself!" Midori says as they run back into the water. They get back onto their board and seem to be doing well at first before the board slips out from underneath them and they land in the water back first [STRENGTH CHECK 13]. After flailing for a moment to find their board they swim back to the shore. "Trickier that it looks" they say out generally.

leaden boneBOT
#

The woman winces slightly, as the person falls but when they get back out of the water she relaxes. She looks out across the beach, observing the party as a whole.

Midori gathers themselves up, "best two out of three!" And they swim out this time the board rips out from under them and they immediately wipe out [STRENGTH CHECK 6]. Midori struggles with the waves but eventually make it back to the shore with their board. They cough up a little water and says in Jolene's direction "um. Maybe I should try some of the other games."

leaden boneBOT

Jolene's attention returns to her charge, raising a brow as they sputter. She looks at the water with a scowl, then shrugs. "Well, darlin', you can bother Merlino or Jackster if you want some more active 'games,' or you can find a nice spot to lay out if you'd like. And if you're hungry, I think there are some fishing rods around here somewhere. I can get some fire going if you're not a fan of sushi." Her orange eyes seem to glow as she mentions flames.

tender ledge
#

"Oooo thank you! I appreciate your offer, but I feel like running around and seeing what I find. Have fun up on your big tall chair!" Midori says with a wave and they run off with their surf board under their arm.

Taking in a deep breath the shark-like individual known as Naz would come to the beach right before just shrugging and going "Screw it" to herself. Jumping straight into the ocean with her shirt still on, swimming at great speeds and enjoying the waters, staying under the blue surface for minutes at a time, before she realized she didn't actually need to come up for air anymore thanks to her gills

Enjoying her time in the well "fresh" salt water would make for a great pickup as the last time she could do this was when she was pearl diving on her ship, now, she could pearl dive again!

Disappearing under water for hours she would swim up with her arms full of clams
"Come on you're gonna make momma rich!"
She'd say out loud while happily cackling

leaden boneBOT
#

The 'lifeguard' wakes up from her little nap as Naz jumps into the ocean. She cracks open one eye to watch her, then relaxes when she spots gills. This at least is one person she won't be asked to fish out of the water, no pun intended.

She looks up in interest as she pops up with her arms full. "Seems like you're having fun, sugar," Jolene calls. "What are you planning on doing with those?"

proven marsh
#

Naz would get a confused look, considering this was probably the first and last time she has been called "sugar"

"Oh uhm- Well I am gonna crack them open for either meat or well pearls if I am lucky enough, Either is good though, the meat is delicious and great for making a sort of gumbo. . .Aeh- Why?"

The tall, 6'4 orc would look over towards the lifeguard with an eyebrow raised

leaden boneBOT
#

The woman shifts in her seat, realizing she's been sitting in the same spot for a while now.

"Just curious, I've never seen anyone actually fetch those out of the water before." Then Jolene waves her hand around in a dismissive way. "And of course, I'm supposed to make sure you're having a good time, blah blah blah."

She peaks down at the critters in her arms. "Well, if you're planning on opening those here, I wouldn't mind watching. Seems like things are slow going here." A 'thankfully' rings through her thoughts.

proven marsh
#

"I mean sure, if ya want I can just give you one of my daggers and you can crack them too I mean as any good Pi- Sailor... sailor... I have just about enough knives to win a throwing competition"

She'd let out a chuckle before reaching into the air, producing a book out of thin air, flipping it over and three daggers, a cup of coffee and two spellscrolls would fall out

"I-... I was wondering where I left my cup"

leaden boneBOT
#

Jolene snorts and looks at the spot of the beach her boss is occupying. The wizard seems to not be paying them any mind, so Jolene hops down from her stand.

"I'm sure I could learn a thing or two from a 'sailor'," Jolene says with a wink as she makes her way over to Naz.

She watches in amusement as the items fall out of the book, though she does raise an eyebrow as the cup of coffee falls out.

proven marsh
#

"Yeah, yeah sailor, I can teach you many things, especially if it's about sails, fishing, diving or gutting fish"

Naz would say before picking up her stuff once more and closing the book around the cup again, somehow it fitting back in like if it was always meant to be there

"Right so I got ... onetwothreefour-"
"Twenty-four shells, so you can have half I'll have half and we'll see who gets luckier!"

Naz would then take a dagger and show how it's meant to be tone, slowly pressing the tip of the dagger between the two edges of the shells, prying it open slowly with small movement before twisting the blade to crack it fully

"damn, too young to even eat" Naz would say as the meat inside the shell was way too small, but she'd still pit it out and keep the shells to use as little plates

leaden boneBOT
#

Jolene makes a face. "I'm not interested in anything that directly involves water. I don't wanna get my hair wet, ya know?"

Jolene barely bats an eye at the book. Her employer does weirder shit.

Jolene nods, grabbing twelve of the shells and one of the many knives. She waits for Naz to see what's she's supposed to do.

proven marsh
#

"I mean... Fair I guess?"

Naz would look slightly confused, considering what sort of job the woman picked up

"Well- Anyway. . . You just, put the edge of the blade right here towards the connection, where the muscle would normally come out if they were feeding. You just put the tip right up against it and shimmy it right in and when you get about an inch or two in, you twist it like-" She'd twist the blade to the side to open the shell "That!"
And this time... inside would be a nice large piece of flesh to enjoy [Roll of 67]
"Ah- This one will actually make it to the gumbo!"

leaden boneBOT
#

The woman doesn't bat an eye at Naz's confusion.

Instead, she follows the other woman's instructions, sliding the blade in and poping the shell open. To her disappointment, there is no pearl inside. The meat inside is also much smaller than the one Naz just found. Huffing, Jolene whips her hair back and starts on the next one with a grumble.

proven marsh
#

Naz would chuckle a bit especially after cracking open another one, which now unluckily enough had a rock inside instead of a pearl, making the meat inside smaller as well

"Hey no need to get upset, it's just blind luck see! and besides, I picked them all up from the ocean floor, so it means all the bad ones are my fault!"

She'd chuckle a bit more, after all, it's easier to blame someone else when it comes to luck

"Besides, I bet your next one is gonna have a pearl!"

leaden boneBOT
#

Jolene chuckles as well, her sour mood lightening a bit. Especially since the other woman's clam had a rock in it.

"But it's my job to make sure we have a good time," the woman teases, though she is glad to not have to babysit any drowning adventurers.

With Naz's words of encouragement, she opens the shell she was working on. To her horror, though it seems usable, its looks the exact same as the last one. Right down to the coloring of the inside of the shell. She stares at the two of them in shock, making sure she hadn't just opened the same one again.

proven marsh
#

"I.... well I am not always right... I mean... h-hey was worth a try wasn't it? H...ahaha..."

Naz would awkwardly stare to the side as she pry open another on. . . Well at least the flesh was usable again for the Gumbo

"I mean if all shells had a pearl then what would be the joy in finally finding one! And I always have a great ol time when there's good company, and I have yet to meet bad company! Well... unless we count undead... mind flayers... Possessed giants... Murder-robots... yeah"

leaden boneBOT
#

Jolene puts a hand on the other woman's shoulder, giving it a squeeze. Her hands are warm and dry. When she brings her hand back, she tries to subtly wipe the dampness from Naz's swim off onto a nearby towel.

"No worries, sweetheart. I'm just a bit hotheaded," she says with another wink.

Jolene pops open another clam, bigger than the rest. She shows Naz the large slab of flesh inside, starting to enjoy the process again. It almost looks tasty, though it will require a nearly deadly amount of spice for it to be tolerable for her.

"Murder-robots?" Jolene asks, then she shakes her head. "I don't know why you adventurers do it, all this sounds so tiring."

proven marsh
#

"I mean that's fair, they call me cold blooded"
She'd chuckle a little, giving her a sharp smile

"Oh hell yeah that one looks great, a few more like and I can make a full pot!"

Naz would smile wider before opening up her fifth clam... only for it to be basically empty once more

"Dang... now I understand why people gamble, it's kinda fun when it works out. . . But this sucks! I want a pearl to give to-... Actually I don't have anyone to give it to, so I guess you'd get it for keeping me company... Oh name's Naz by the way-"

leaden boneBOT
#

"I'm not sure why, you seem like a doll."
Jolene returns the smile, her eyes glowing in a slightly unnerving way.

Jolene places the useable clams with Naz's, grabbing the next one.

"I don't know, it's always fun when you finally get a win," Jolene says, sliding her knife into the clam.

With a pop, Jolene opens the clam. She spots a weird lump on the side, and pokes it with her knife. As she pokes it, she gasps as a pearl pops out. "I got one!" She says, handing the pearl over to Naz. It's a lovely pink color, the color darkening slightly from the flickering orange light from Jolene's hair.

proven marsh
#

"Ah yes! The tall orc warlock that is covered in tattoo's and has a pirating bounty on her head! The prettiest of the dolls"

Naz would chuckle heavily before looking over at the freshly opened pearl

"Awh heall yeah!" Naz would the brush it with her fingers, casting prestidigitation on it to clean and dry it

"There ya go, knew you would get one! And now. . . For my-" Naz would struggle a bit with the knife "TRIUMPH!" as the next clam would get popped open!... A rotten piece of kelp

"Welp. . . The next one for sure" She'd let off a sligh cackle before throwing it away

leaden boneBOT
#

Jolene snorts, holding out the pearl again. "Since you've got more going on, you should probably take this. My job is pretty cushy."

Jolene presses a fist to her mouth to keep from bursting out into inappropriately loud laughter. She may enjoy teasing people, but that would be a little too mean.

Placing the pearl in front of Naz, Jolene pops open another clam. It's a nice juicy one, but it doesn't have a pearl, to her disappointment.

proven marsh
#

"Well if you say so"
Naz would shrug as she'd pop open one last clam, getting with it's reasonable size enough to make a nice healthy pot of gumbo

"Hmm well-... That's plenty of meat, I'll return the living ones to the ocean, since they can actually survive for quite a while without water, and well-... Eat the rest! But..."

Naz would let out a sigh as she'd look over at the portals
"Well then, seems like that will be that, gonna have to make it at the guild, thank you for the fun time though!... Maybe see ya around? I don't know how these contracted things work anyway"

Naz would shrug, collecting up all the clams into the largest open shell and packing them into a small pouch with some salt water in it

leaden boneBOT
#

Jolene shrugs, looking back at the gate. She sighs, seems the job is coming to a close. Merlino is going to be closing things up soon. She stands up, brushing the sand off herself.

"Well, have fun with that, and enjoy your dinner. I'm gonna bully Robin into giving me whatever's left from the bar once all you lot are gone."

Jolene shrugs at the question. "It's like your gig, I'm never quite sure when our next party will be. Could be 3 hours from now, could be 5 centuries. We'll see."

She gives Naz a fond smile. "Thanks for being cool, 'Sailor.' I appreciate not having to get in that shit," she says, flicking her thumb toward the ocean.

She gives Naz one last cheeky wink, before heading towards the bar to wait out the remaining adventurers.
