#Why am I more social whenever I’m sleep deprived?

One of the craziest things happened to me because I decided not to sleep before going to school. I expected to just feel like my usual self, only more tired. I am typically very quiet and I sit alone most of the time and I barely make eye contact and I find talking exhausting because I am hyper vigilant and afraid of saying the wrong thing. However, when I did not sleep, I felt incredibly social and relaxed. I spoke more and I even maintained eye contact for over two minutes, which is very strange for me. My classmates were shocked because they had never seen me talk that much. Although I made new friends, they immediately distanced themselves the next day when I slept and returned to my usual quiet, depressed state. Why did being sleep deprived make me feel like a completely different and more social person, and why did that connection disappear as soon as I got some rest?

Hmm, firstly, i wouldnt recommend doing this often, not sleeping and being sleep deprived isnt exactly a good thing, especially not regularly 2r_hugagerebluedragon

Im also not really sure what you mean by ''relaxed', i usually feel drowsy and tweaky whenever I'm sleep deprived 😭

I think you mean ''relaxed'' as in free or without much thought.

Also, this experience differs from person to person, i have my experiences with it, and researched a bit about it, but that doesnt mean im fully correct catb

What i think is that because you were sleep deprived, your brain, specifically, the logical and thoughtful part of it kinda turns off, along with emotional regulation, which means you'd be less thoughtful, less hypervigilant, and overall not thinking much about things, though you might even be sadder or less emotionally regulated. As i've said, changes from person to person!! catb

And sleep deprivation can also mimick a kinda disinhibited feeling, meaning you could be less restrained, more chatty, but also more impulsive, and you might also feel unusually confident or maybe even just..., lets say... ''drunk'' or drowsy a lot

Fun fact! sleep deprivation can also sort of mimic alcohol consumption, specifically in terms of reaction times, memory, and judgement!!
Which you mightve already noticed, that you feel or act like someone who's drunk, LMAO 😭

Does all this make sense to you? If not, feel free to ask or share more if you find it needed!! cl_reki_angel_silly_wings 1r_sillythumbsup
