More General Chat Channels

Also self-explanatory, but I notice that vent-1 tends to congregrate and become a "general-2" vibe. I feel to combat that, just adding one or 2 more general chat channels since it can be difficult to have like 5 side conversations in main 😅

you are one of dozens of people to suggest that…. We have talked about it as staff A LOT and the consensus is we don’t wanna do it… venting 1 is chaos whether we making another general or not.. it just spirals conversation to conversation.. and it’s just part of our job to stick our head in there a couple times a day and put everyone back on track or warn people who won’t use the channel properly.. There is a counter argument that there’s 3 venting channels so if venting 1 is out of control with random ass conversations and you need to vent.. go to a different vent channel..

we feel with years of watching this server and its dynamics that adding another general will not remove the problem from venting 1 yet will just create yet another channel that needs to be moderated 24/7 ontop of our nearly 2 dozen channels already…

We love the suggestion and so many people have suggested it before but sadly the dynamic of the server and the way people kinda just go to a channel and sit there for a while no matter what their purpose is even if it’s venting and then turns into a general chat.. won’t change if we make another general…

So sorry.. thanks for the idea!!! I originally thought the same over a year ago!! but.. i’ve seen it going for a while now and experienced it.. another general won’t solve that problem lol

I can understand that! If I had known it's been considered already I wouldn't have said anything so I'm sorry!

But I completely understand your explanation and it does make sense that you mentioned counterargument about the venting channels :)

I get that the idea sounds nice on paper, but sometimes things are the way they are for a good reason. The execution and the reality of things turn out much differently than the theory

We used to have a second main chat, but people constantly misused it, thus being removed

A general venting wouldn’t really help, it would mostly just make things even harder to handle and more messier

wouldnt it be easier to delete a venting channel like vent 3 and then make a venting general?

or would only 2 venting channels make things more squished for people who dont wanna swim through multiple messages just to keep a convo going

having to deal with a channel with more sensitive topics with the same rate of generals messages would be annoying asf to deal with

Exactly, it would simply do more harm than good

I get it that you support convos can shift and it’s hard to draw the line sometimes, but things are this way because they have proved to work better than other approaches

If the mod workforce were to be expanded with more people to moderate, would there be a chance for it potentially becoming a real thing?

yeah it would defiantly cause alot of arguments and such with multiple people being warned in them 24/7
