we’ve been talking for 2 years. im 16 hes 18

to make it short, guy started to like me and i liked him back, but guy doesnt want ldrs and is scared to be in a rs rn cus of past rs. so i asked him “if you dont wanna date me or be with me why do you still talk to me yada yada?” he said we should just stay as crushes though i really do love him a lot already. but i feel like if i continuously talk to him ill still be inlove with him which sucks for me cus he’ll never be inlove with me. do i stop talking to him for my own sake or should i not?
