No, material things are only half of life.
Having the most recent car, the new iphone, sitting in a multi-million dollar mansion won't make you inherently happy, maybe at the start, but it will become the norm, and then it won't.
Happiness is a everevolving emotion, it shouldn't ever be chased, it comes naturally, happiness is what you want it to be, it can be something small, or something big.
Maybe you like helping people? Having a good food? Playing a certain videogame?
It doesn't matter what it is, as long it makes you happy, and there always is something that does, but again, it should never be chased, happiness needs to be a special moment it can't become the norm or it will lose it's meaning.
You need to chase what you consider to be a good life, if working in the "computer" field, making good money, and going home to play guitar is what you want to do, then do it, nobody can dictate your life, it's yours, and there's only one, make the most out of it.
And yes, you are right studying doesn't equal to money, of course, studying is done in order to attain knowledge, which then can be used to step forwards in life, be it for money or to solve a problem you are experiencing, knowledge is amazing.
World isn't black or white, it's a scale of gray, hope that helps.
