Oceanside Pokémon has passed 50,000 members for the first time!

What a huge amount of people. An amount of people that I would’ve never thought to be possible when I first made the server!

I do frequently prune inactive members, so we’ll likely be dipping down below 50K soon if I do a prune. But regardless, I’m so happy with this milestone being achieved. Massive shoutout to anyone from the old days, back in late 2019 or 2020 who helped me build the server and give advice that lead us to where we are today. ❤️

Oceanside Pokémon is now FIVE YEARS OLD! I made this server five years ago already?! 🎉

Making the server was a spur of the moment idea, it was something that literally just came to my mind randomly.
I would have never guessed that it would've lasted this long! (Sorry @winter geyser for DM leaks)

I was just 17 when I made the server, and it was super hard for a while as it got larger but it's infinitely more manageable and chill now. Obviously right now is a point in time where Pokémon isn't super hype since Scarlet & Violet are over two years old and we're waiting for ZA, but it's especially easier now thanks to the help of those like @drifting mulch, @left fable, @wraith heron, @winter geyser and everyone who's helped over time. People like @ancient wagon, @dusk cloud, @stable snow, @old condor, and@deep copper really helped me, and MANY more!

I don't have anything cool planned like some giveaway or event, I unfortunately don't have as much time as I did for things like activities as I did in quarantine but thank you for being @here!

"What is 2FA?" Two Factor Authentication, or 2FA, is an extra layer of protection used to ensure the security of online accounts beyond just a username and password.

Hello! We are organizing our first ever Pokemon Draft League. For those of you unfamiliar, a draft league is when a pool of coaches come together and everyone drafts a team of Pokemon, in this case each team will pick eleven. The size of the league(s) will be determined by the number of people who show interest.

By drafted, I am referring to a snake draft. The first person down to the last person in the draft order pick a Pokemon and then it is the reverse order for the 2nd round. For example, if there are 10 teams who participate, the person with the first pick will not pick again until the 20th pick, while the person who ends round 1 with #10 pick will draft again at the 11th pick. Once one Pokemon has been drafted, no on else can take that pokemon. There are, however, a couple exceptions to this rule. Both Gigantamax and Max forms are allowed, so two people can end up with, for example, Rillaboom. However, only one is allowed to use the Gmax form (and solely the Gmax form) and the other cannot use the Gmax form. Gmax/Max forms are the only exception to this rule.

The format of the league will be 4v4 VGC Doubles. It will also be a best 3. So for the battles, you will bring six pokemon, and each game choose 4 of the 6 you want to play. Each week you will play a different opponent, so note that this will be a tournament that goes on for some weeks. The draft rules are as follows:

• Besides Gmax/Max forms, no Pokemon can be drafted twice.
• Pokemon are ranked within a tier list, which will be available to see days before the draft. You are only allowed to pick: One Gmax, two Tier 1, three Tier 2, three tier 3, & two tier 4 picks

Hey guys, I'm going to ask you to take a vote: In the near future we planned on removing Shiny Raids, the plan was for shortly after Crown Tundra was out.

Majority of people do not participate in them anymore, due to the fact that the game isn't as popular anymore and most people have every Pokemon/item they can ever dream of wanting.

The goal is to work in a direction for the server that focuses on Pokemon GO, Sword/Shield trade giveaways, and whatever the next Pokemon game may be. Would you like to see the removal of Shiny raids here:

We have removed channels that have existed for the majority of the servers lifespan, #shinyraid-chat (once known as #shiny-raids) and #giveaway-chat.
This is due to lack of use, which is nobody's fault. Allow me to tell a story from long ago....

Once in a world of Pokemon, many Shiny Raid Hosts gathered to provide communities with shiny Pokemon with their own customized OT after catching it.
For the first few months of Oceanside's life, nearly every member that joined the server came for shiny raids as it was the most heavily advertised reason to join here.
After a while, many hosts started to use Arduino's, which are tools that can automatically skip days for you, as well as.... automatically host raids.

This caused the amount of active hosts typing and interacting with raiders to plummet, and shortly after was the introduction of Sysbot, which allowed anyone to get fully customized Pokemon of their choice. As overpowered as it seemed, people loved and still love it to this day!

Then, the world's largest enemy... hacked raids. These are now patched and can't be performed anymore, but people were able to host raids for multiple months that gave joiners maxed out items of whatever the host decided they wanted to put in the raids. To this day, many users still have crazy bags with items like 999x Cherish Balls. This absolutely depleted the value of any shiny Pokemon to lower than any Pokemon game up to this point. Having a shiny Pokemon was worth literally nothing.

While those raids are now patched, the effects still linger to this day, and having fun joining raids and talking to hosts has diminished. While hosting raids will still exist here until the next main-series Pokemon game is out, the chats to talk in no longer exist now. Thanks for reading if you did, and thank a host if ya see one around.

As the server ages, we feel that the OG role should be given across time and be earned in a way. Every 3 months, we'll move the cut-off a month further, and we're starting January (now) with the first move up. If you joined the server before April 1st () you may DM a staff, ping a staff or DM @lethal vault to create a ticket and get the role. This date will be come May 1st in the beginning of April, and so on.

Lately there has been a ton of claims, ideas, and warnings tossed around about bans within Pokemon Sword/Shield. To keep it short, I'm going to give my best recommendations to keep the odds of something like this happening low.

-Release Pokemon that names include a website. This includes our link, pkmfans.com. Better to be safe than sorry.
-Release Pokemon that are unreleased, such as Shiny Galarian Birds, or Shiny G-Max Melmetal.
-Do not edit your save file, or attempt to.

Those three tasks should keep you from an in-game ban but will not guarantee anything. 👍

Today we brought a few changes, the default Trainer role color is different, so everyone that hasn't unlocked the Active role will look different now.

Expect more changes in a few days, as we have a lot in store.

-Server Boosters get an automatic 10% extra experience gain automatically.
-All overall experience gain is slowed, and it will take 1.75x as long to gain levels as before. An example would be that to now unlock Level 8, you would be at Level 14 if it was with the old experience system.
-You can now earn experience from being in voice chat. Music channels do not count as you aren't allowed to speak in them.
-You only can gain experience every 70 seconds, as opposed to 60 before. This will barely make any difference, but I wanted to include it.
-You can no longer vote to up your experience rate by 10%.

I wouldn't expect much Pokemon info if any at all. But it will be exciting regardless!

Today, we bring two events to the server: an art competition and a Pokemon tournament! You can check out #813506983931805786 for full event info, but I'll give a brief info dump here:

Art Competition: All participants will have from now until March 8th to create the best server banner and logo that they can. It must include at least one water type Pokemon, and the text "Oceanside Pokemon". For more info, head to #813506564518445116!

Pokemon Tournament: This will take place on Pokemon Showdown and 32 people are allowed to participate. For more info, head to #813510669776978022 and read all about it! I also recommend grabbing the <@&813274091661295646> role from #678468734813470740. Once you are fully signed up and approved, you will be able to access the #813906064181166171 channel.

Throughout the next few weeks, we'd like to change the server icon in rotation to show some of the cool submissions from our previous Art Competition.
After this is done, the logo will return to our wonderful Jirachi icon done by @old condor, but until then, expect to see some new icons!

Starting off today, we got the one and only Senior Mod @wraith heron's photo or a Pokeball in a clam! (Clamperl for DP Remakes confirmed?)

[Tournament Announcement]

We're happy to announce that we will be hosting the Oceanside Little Cup tournament in Pokémon Sword and Shield! 😄

This is a tournament that will take place on April 2nd and last from 3 p.m. EST - 6 p.m. EST, making this our first one-day tournament.
(12PM PST - 3PM PST, 8PM GMT - 11PM GMT) more time zone conversions at https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html.

The code to enter the tournament with instructions on how to enter will be posted on the morning of the tournament. This is a doubles format where only Pokémon that have an evolution and no prior evolution with a Base Stat Total (BST) of 365 and under are allowed. You may use the teams below for reference:

Small update, #current-raids was now removed due to the lack of hosting, rest in peace raids! Sword/Shield is still fun for a lot of people but it’s definitely close to the end of its lifespan is the next games approach.

Fun fact, I haven't pinged everyone at once since New Pokémon Snap released, April 30th. Meaning that I'm probably pinging a lot of people who have never been pinged for announcements in the server before! Also... we are exactly ONE MONTH from Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl!!!

Anyways, time for some announcements and updates. First, a semi-recent prune.
At a peak around a month ago, the server was at a whopping 37,000+ members! While that was awesome, an absolute ton of them were inactive. I have removed everyone from the server that only had the default Trainer role, and hadn't interacted with the server in over 30 days. If you would like to be opted out of server prunes for the future, all you have to do is at least have one role besides the Trainer role, so you can grab one in #678468734813470740 now. After this large prune we are now at around 27,000 members!

Next for news... well, the art contest is not quite ready yet.
There will be one very soon, but proper preparations are necessary before hosting this next event. If you're an artist you definitely know how important time is when working, and the last thing I want to do is waste that time of yours! All I can say now is that this contest will have much more rewarding prizes than before.

As well as that, Trivia is back!
If you're old-time member, you'll probably remember this channel. Trivia was hosted pretty much every other day, with a community of participants arriving each time. Duel it out with knowledge to quickly answer questions and earn a special role and prizes. This will be played in #891818011202306048 and you can be notified of when it's time to play by grabbing the new role in #678468734813470740, and it won't be locked when Trivia isn't in progress

Minor updates:

YOOO! Have you been keeping up with the date? It's (almost) time for Pokémon: Legends: Arceus! <@&872619569037049867>

In the US, it releases at <t:1643356800:R> or a bit earlier depending on your time zone. The reason for this early announcement is because it is already out in some regions. I know how people are with spoilers... so we've made sure that they're kept out of the main chats and only in #1019650309074718831. If you go on YouTube or Twitch right now, you can expect to see hundreds of videos and streams already up, with many players decently far into the story line already. So please be cautious if you do not want any spoilers of the game. I personally will not be covering P:LA on YouTube, at least not in the near future, so there's no need to worry about spoilers there. We will be adding server emojis, stickers, and more to the server for the game but waiting on that until the game has been out for at least a few days.

That's all, if you're buying the game make sure to have fun and enjoy the new experience. It can be frustrating at first with so many new mechanics but I imagine you'll have a great time.
