Paranormality is very good on heroes, who has more shield than health.

not necessarily the highest single instance of damage that can occur, but what build can produce the highest "total damage done" stat at the end of the game

If you are talking base game, go multiplayer and find a really high DPS build, you can ask around for one, and then just bully one of the clone monarchs (The blue versions of the final boss)
If you're talking spiritual assault, I once got 3.6 billion with some insane luck doing a bird cleave build

Yes because it gives them both Burning and Shock, but Manipulation only applies when they spawn.

So you get 5 seconds of enemies not attacking you, and then they act normally.

red astroaspects serve as wild cards, they will fit any color, unless they are on their own, then they become legendary

This is very good for early-game. It ensures you're already powerful enough to not easily die from the first few scenes, and also, if you keep it until Hyperborean Jokul, you can choose from 2 ascensions, instead of the act's forced 1 ascension.

That's actually not that good for early game.

It's better mid-late game.

You're just reducing your odds of getting an useful ascension if you take it early.

It's complicated.

Early game you can get more ascensions faster, but if you're unlucky you're just reducing your options for good ones. If you're lucky and get good extra ascensions, it becomes purely a downside later on in act 2 and 3 as you have less options.

Mid-late game just gets you extra ascensions at a point where getting unlucky doesn't matter as much, and it doesn't screw up your future as much because there is less future to screw up.

Wouldn't feel bad about that--the desert is imo the hardest act especially for newcomers. Many of the regular enemies are threatening.

Over time you'll learn how to approach each room better, but generally speaking for those snipers you want to side strafe. You can also play behind cover if available. Prioritize certain targets like arsonists [flamethrower guys].

If an arsonist gets too close you can hug up real close to them and circle their body as a last ditch effort defense. Usually works. The snipers are much easier to dodge with some move speed increases. So if you find a scroll or ascension in Tombs that offers that it might be worth considering.
