On a more serious note it may also be because lots of people on R8 are familiar with different synergies within the game and can exploit them. What inscriptions are good on what weapons, certain scroll combinations, weird tips like firing Icy Spears at your feet instead of at the enemy, etc. Playing the game more at that level of difficulty usually makes players learn how to build better. That said, with how blessings are being treated lately, the above is also true. Blessings are powerful buffs indeed. Nightmare doesn't have them.

Because Lightning Ball is great and Fire Ball is good, but Corrosion Ball is junk in almost every way.

Lightning Ball rises over the enemy you hit, dealing AoE damage constantly to anything nearby with a high chance of many Shock applications thanks to the repeat hits.
Fire Ball rises over the enemy you hit then immediately slams down on them, dealing AoE damage. It only gets 1 opportunity to trigger Burning and doesn't hit any wandering enemies afterwards, but is still good.
Corrosion Ball however selects a random target that could be anywhere in the room which usually is not the target you actually hit, then slowly floats over to it which wastes lots of time if the selected target is really far away.
Then once it arrives at the target assuming they're not already dead, it hits them once and nothing more. No AoE, no continuous hits, only 1 chance at Decay.
Only thing that Corrosion Ball could do that the others can't is it might spot an enemy that you haven't yet and attack them. But by the time it reaches them that enemy has probably made itself very obvious to you.

every hero has a few dev prescribed builds that have the bulk of the support, you can definitely deviate from them but the way the game is designed nowadays, especially once you get to rein difficulty, is you pick your build at the start of the run and then just kinda follow through with it

my experience with dead cells is the dynamic is similar as here where you just kinda pick your build, but in dead cells it's even more extreme and there's even less variance in runs
dead cells however, unlike gfr, doesn't suffer from crippling power creep in the end game so it gets away with it much more cleanly
basically, dead cells has a lot of weapons but the build variety mostly ends with the weapons and active items

in dead cells (BIASED OPINION OF A 3BC MAX PLAYER) there are a lot of builds but they mostly depend on your preference - if you don't like spammy melee weapons then half of the possible builds just disappears, the other half is either ranged spam (crossbows/funny lantern/whips) or getting the roll parry mutation and getting some heavy hitter with vitality scaling like nutcracker
most of the actually fun builds come from unique weapons (can i consider the lantern unique? it's very fun) or 10 billion variations of longbow builds
(waiting when they actually allow us to make a viable head build for 3bc+)

Birb is the better choice initially, since he has Hail of Bullets to technically make the magazine much larger, plus Close Combat and Victory Rush...
But on the other hand, Turtle is likely better if you have a mag share set up, since his Hostile Gift recovers a large chunk of the magazine (~40 ammo at least with the proper offhand) and he's also got stuff like Battle Adrenaline and Wave Rider.
Aww fuck, I just realized that Battle Adrenaline is basically Close Combat but better.

Probably more scrolls than you think, you just don't care about most of them.
At that point, not only do you have a fully fleshed out build making scrolls that don't benefit it useless, but since you're right at the end even stuff like Veteran, Elite Assassin and Dual-edge become useless.

So you can alt-f4 anytime as long as you don't go down with 0 revives.

Fun fact: Based on the enemy and enhancements they receive, enhanced enemies can get anywhere between an extra +23% to +500% total HP + Shield/Armor.
Weakest being any shielded/armored enemy with the Agile enhancement, but no Armored enhancement.

Elite Mandrill Cavalry can never roll Shielding or Armored, thanks to the fact that they have 2 health bars already (even though there was a point where they could roll Armored and ended up with 3 bars).
