Iruma is the angel candidate as the heaven realm scout for humans near their death day to be reborn as an angel

Once Iruma set a foot in the heaven realm, everyone loved him... Until they found a glaring flaw to Iruma when the angels throw a feast for the new comer.

He broke one of the seven cardinal sins: Gluttony. He was starved as a child so he cannot help himself and ate all the food meant for all the angels present

The only way out for an angel who broke the seven cardinal sins (7 deadly sins) is to be thrown out....

but i like to interpret the futile hope line as a past life thing, like if for some reason angels became demons by, well, becoming fallen angels, but by also losing their memories of their past existence as angels in the process. so Kiriwo's whole deal in canon is that he is obsessed with other people's (and his own?) despair - that thirst is both what made him become fallen and RtO
and i aM LOSING TRACK OF WHat i am trying to say.
but what if

he instinctively wants to go back to his past angel self. ||while also not wanting to let of what truly drives him. he is greedy! and canon kiriwo is a very calm and soft person despite the despairfetish part, one could say he is rather angelic even - i mean, i believe everything he did for iruma & his friends was not part of his scheme but just something he wanted to do! aND IM LOSING TRACK AGAINN||
technically a demon wanting to return to their angelic self would be considered returning to origins but like, an even further version of it.
