Not really happy with how its turning out, something about trying a more "organic" city in the outer walls just doesn't mesh well for me. Still an entire upper region to fill in but don't really have any ideas for now.

Dude this is awesome!!! I bet if you took the landscaping table and plopped some hedges around the stone walls it might add that spice your looking for
Did you make that in survival or creative?
Survival, this is the third base and last, i lived near world spawn, moved once and experimented with large walled settlements and beat the game, got a mining set and farmed dungeons for furniture on my local save and some harvest saves, once I built a very large reserve of settlers + resources I picked a plains biome island to settle
first island was really just getting my bearings, second was experimental, this one was the real pre planned one, took about 100 hours to go from planning phase to implementation
self sufficient and produces tons of gold from selling of leftover harvests
sitting on 1.5M gold right now
notably, the entire save predates creative by quite a bit, and predates the dryad update, with each update i sort of reupdate the base to reflect newly added content
that's awesome tbh! i really like your builds. i really like the idea of "circular" designs, but i struggle to make them without any guidance to make sure i reproduce the same layout on each side
with circular walls it’s just a lot of trial and error. i’ll make half of the “circle” and mirror it until it looks right. i’ll put down in my notes directions of walls and # of blocks corresponding to the shift in the walls. frankly, there’s probably a much better way than the way i do it but i get a decent enough result that i don’t bother to change my methods.
if the hedges didn’t attach to walls i’d have probably done so 😀
i made this personnally, if i were to restart i'd probably put some paths as guidance first
The only change I would make is all doorways to be one block, which means the large edges of circles to have to be an odd number, resulting in the inner walls becoming even numbers in which you can place 2 wide fixtures like beds and tables neatly
but that’s personal preference
could change up your flooring some with some paths to break it up
let's say that if i were to do it again i wouldnt do it the same way. i like it but it's not as functional as i'd like
your build was an inspiration of some sort when i was looking for ideas
Follow up question, any tips on harvesting crops en masse? Apart from toying with priorities? I find "the center" of my settlement fully self sufficient but expanding outwards begs the question how should I maintain storage specifically
I assume at some point it becomes easier for harvests to be deposited into chests nearby instead of having the settler cart them all the way back so to speak. Any insight? Seems like you have it down pat here
if you find the time, you can daisy chain deposit chests and uptick/down tick the priority as well as the amount in the chests - creates sort of a logistical supply line that becomes especially self sufficient if you run a specific (not achievement affecting command, just a setting) that sets jobs for settlers to range further than the default, i believe default is 175 but the command can stretch that to 300 which is beyond the current 276x276 settlement size
i’d say if you modeled it more after the ocularum, which is the central focal point of my base you might have an easier time finding utility in it, let me pull up a picture
holy molly i like that
This is a work of art mate
Thanks for the 2 cents
Very interesting quip about the settler range command, do you have that handy?
Or is it somewhere in the FAQ or another thread - big thanks for the chat today!!
I havent quite oculized the base just yet as I still have some terraformimg to do as its still just the nat spawn location settlement
i think it’s /settings JobSearchRange 300
I personally make a bare layout using pixel art since it translates into necesse
