I couldn't tell you what the game is like past the first boss, but I can tell you that building settlements is a lot of fun.
Hope you like it ๐Ÿ˜

I wish I had your level of creativity/level design ๐Ÿ™‚

It's all about trying new things, fucking around and finding out.

serene abyss

@lofty topaz how did you know how many tiles you would need for each building? How did you come up with the various shapes?

serene abyss
#

Also, what tiles are those paths in the more rural sections?

queen agate
#

So use shovel and then stone on it

latent spindle
#

Does any type of stone work?

queen agate
#

Should do

#

I did it with swamp stone and it worked

latent spindle
#

Nice

queen agate

Yes just stone

serene abyss

it looks different than mine, the stone I have is grey, where the one in the picture is multicolored (the bottom island's paths)

queen agate
#

I can't see the multicolor you're talking about

# serene abyss <@238566946566701056> how did you know how many tiles you would need for each bu...

I had no idea how many tiles I needed for the build, I just had a few miner villagers gathering stones for me and some villagers chopping trees so I had plenty of stone and wood which like 90% of the build consisted of.
Coming up with the shapes is honestly very difficult for me because I am a bit of a perfectionist so I naturally tend to build things that are perfectly square and aligned.
So I try to build around the terrain so the buildings organically follow the terrain.

hmm I will make a comparison screenshot

#

Looks like it matches

#

So idk what else to tell you @serene abyss

lofty topaz
#

Nice didn't know there was a legit way to place gravel ๐Ÿ˜„

serene abyss
#

oh I'm dumb. I've been placing "rock", sorry about that

#

so you build the structures based on the shape of the terrain, but do you place the paths before structures? (not sure what to use as a "skeleton" for the build) To me it's like staring at a blank canvas with writer's block

lofty topaz
#

Yeah I usually place paths first, I find that it's much easier when you "restrict" yourself by having roads/paths that determine the shape and size of the buildings if that makes sense. However I didn't have the whole build planned out from the beginning, I knew I wanted a walled of town, so I built the walls around the island first, then I made a bridge connecting to the other island and made a few farms. After that I made the main roads inside the walled town. Then I just alternated between building the farms and the town.

serene abyss
#

Thank you for the in depth response. How do you figure out path shapes/design?

lofty topaz
#

I try to use references to try and replicate their vibes, and then it's just trial and error. For example, for the rural area i used pictures of rural areas from old school runescape as inspiration

serene abyss

oh cool, thanks
