All speculation really, if it was a different driver, let’s say Gasly, would he have gotten penalized exactly the same? I doubt it. Look at the infractions. They had zero influence on the race. A reprimand, a fine, at worst a 5 second time penalty and that’s reaching. None of those alone would have hurt Mercedes, so they gave them 10 seconds time penalty. The FIA got the result they wanted.

That’s one of the problems with F1. Some infringements are open to discretion and penalties can be varied. They penalized based on the team and driver and the standings. Different driver may have gotten a different penalty.
I don’t care if they would have given Hamilton a 20 second penalty. I really don’t. The infringement had zero influence on the race at all. Just pointing out that discretion takes into account many things.

Racing point car is not too bad. After all, it is pretty much last years Mercedes. It would do Lance good to say go 1-2 seasons with Red Bull, McLaren, even Mercedes. It will never happen, but, from a development point of view, that would be the best thing for Lances career. He will always have that stigma unless he can prove he’s a top driver consistently.

No. Not because of Alonso, but Renault still have a long way to go to catch Red Bull, especially if Red Bull get a better, more consistent #2 driver next year.
McLaren are poised to make decent steps next year. Then there’s Racing Point. That’s a question mark for me next year, Vettel’s frame of mind needs to be in the right place if they are to have success. Lance cannot carry that team.
I would say McLaren has a better chance at catching Red Bull then Renault, so long as their Mercedes PU transition goes smoothly. Norris and Ricciardo are going to be a powerful driver lineup next year.
We will see if Ferrari get their stuff straightened out, I still think it’s gonna be 2022 onwards for them to be top 3 again.

If you watch the slo mo F1 posted of Max’s tyre explosion, it almost looks like a failure. So instantaneous. Hard to believe debris would cause the tyre to explode like that. Must have been a big chunk of debris.
