They really need to change the rule regarding red flag tyre changes. Stroll couldn’t really take advantage of it fully, but a 100% free pit stop for red flag is too gravy. They just need to change the rule that during a red flag, you can change tyres only with same compound, with the exception of rain of course.
Therefore Stroll would have needed to do a in race pit, just like everyone else.

@livid hazel I’m ok with changing to same compound, since you have to use 2 compounds in a race. I think during red flag, you should not gain such an advantage as a 100% free pit stop. Pitting under safety car can be advantageous, but still costs track time. FIA should really consider changing. Sure it makes for interesting scenarios, but cmon zero consequence pit stop?!

Yeah it don't sit right with me, the same compound would be ok in this race, but I still think if everyone has to keep the same tyres on its more fair. If u have taken the time to make a pit stop before the red u will lose track position but everyone in front will still have to run the race in the same way as before the red flag. It should neutralise the grid not hand out what is effectively a free pit stop to out of position cars. I'm guessing the reason they can change tyres is to avoid punctures from the actual cause of the red flag which is fair enough, but teams should have to show evidence of a puncture and then only be allowed to swap to the same compound IMO

I am by no means a Hamilton fan, but cmon... the guy has skill. Sure, if he was in Indy car where all cars are the same, sure, he would t win all races. Nobody would. Give the guy some credit. He’s got the best car, he makes the most of it. Doesn’t make him a lesser driver. Going from 17th to 7 th in a car not set up to pass, on hard tires in a relatively short period of time takes skill.
