Kudos to Mercedes. They are dominant throughout the entire organization. They got it right in the beginning of the V6 turbo era. They were mediocre at best before that. They have grown and developed into a great team top to bottom. They deserve to win. As boring as it is, they’re in it for the money. Ferrari, Red Bull, Reneault, McLaren, they all need to do a better job. The rules make it impossible. You can’t make up a second a lap in a few weeks. Really, the only thing you could do to “level out” the field is add reward weight to the cars if they win. That won’t happen but unless Ferrari et al find a magic wand, Mercedes will continue to dominate. As a McLaren fan, I’m looking forward to seeing the Mercedes power unit in the back of the car once again. Too bad Honda and McLaren couldn’t play nice in the beginning.

@upbeat wedge you can look at it that way but what happens if Lewis gets covid and is out for 2 races? Then Bottas would be in contention but it seems Lewis' points lead is being protected in case he misses out because of any potential problem that would see him miss between 2-3 races

...Well, that’s depressing... I just realised that Mercedes is likely going ahead and doing the same thing they did in the lead-up to the hybrid era and throwing so much money into R&D for the 2022 aero rules, sure the other teams can do so a bit as well with the freeze of cars for 2020-2021 but even so, none of them really have the same money as Mercedes (and the budget cap is only being introduced later on, so they still have no spending limits on that preliminary R&D...)

This season with the Vettel situation i've all the respect i had for Ferrari, so I wont bother if they keep on going mid table to be honest. I'd like to see Maclaren back to the wins or at least have more consistency at the top. My wishe's to RedBull are that they can get closer to Mercedes and that they either find a compatible second driver or start to pay more atention to him instead of going all in with Max.

IMO, Hamilton his a good driver without a doubt and while bottas seems to be quicker on straights, Lewis laps are defined on this little details... He manages to gain time in slow corners for example, we saw that at Spain and SPA. I think that his experience in the past, with the likes of Schumacher, Alonso and even Rosberg and the car he has atm, are the reasons to why he is so ahead atm. I still think Verstappen and Leclerc are more natural talented drivers, they get more from the cars than Hamilton does IMO, but then again, Mercedes seem to be managing the pace to the point that they win without being giving 100%, at least that's what it seems to me.
Some drivers need the car to be great, like SEB, unfortunately, others manage to be great even tho the car isn't the best, like Max and Leclerc, atm. That's just my opinion.

Well, both Alfa’s qualied higher than Ocon in a inferior chassis. RB typically don’t do well on low downforce, hi speed tracks as a function of their chassis more so than the PU. Hard to say without looking at specific PU data and taking away the chassis influence on pure lap times as a comparison. Fair to say Renault have a ton more hours of development and mileage, and should be better than Honda, but I think they are extremely close.
If I was a customer and had to choose between Renault and Honda, I would go with Honda hands down.

Interesting to see the hand maneuver and thinking speed of Hamilton and Leclerc shows you that a few hundreds of a second can be gained just by focusing and getting your exit speed at the best possible gear and torque

On a more positive note I like the direction McLaren are headed. The Merc PU should definitely help, and the chassis is coming along good I think. The team is getting better and Norris is gonna be a rock star for them. Danny Ric should spice things up too.
