#Tomcat rewrite valve prolbems

Hey there I am having a lot of issues setting up the rewirte valve for my tomcat java ee web server. I have a lot of difficulty finding proper instructions on how to configure it in my project. Most resource ask me to add it as a Valve to my context.xml but I dont have on in my project. I tried editing the context.xml in my tomcat installation folder but web.xml is still not recognizing the valve element.
