#Java & Forge Problems

My Java is not wanting to interact in any way with my Forge so that I can get into adding mods to my minecraft. I have downloaded Java, but I cannot find it even after reinstalling and downloading multiple times. I believe that due to this, I can only extract forge files and try to put them in the right place.

I am using Windows and would be thankful for some help.

Either something's wrong with my Java or i'm just doing something wrong.

ionic magnet
#

have you installed forge ?

hollow vine
#

Well, when I attempt to download it, it sends me a file instead of the typical installation screen despite the fact that I've installed java.

#

The problem is java

#

I installed it but cannot find the Java

ionic magnet
#

did you install the client ?

hollow vine
#

the client for forge? no it keeps on sending me a file instead of prompting me to install client

#

i'm trying to get the mod system installer

ionic magnet
hollow vine
#

to pop up

hollow vine
#

i avoided the Adfoc aswell

#

after downloading recommended

ionic magnet
#

I still don't understand what your problem, what do you mean by file.

hollow vine
#

here let me get the picture

ionic magnet
#

does java simply not work ? Are you getting an error ?

hollow vine
#

wrong folder but the same thing happens

#

it sends me one of these files after pressing on install

ionic magnet
#

and there is no mod folder under Appdata/Roaming/Minecraft

hollow vine
#

i go through and click the installer button, it sends me through adfoc and i click skip which downloads the folder

ionic magnet
#

there is a mod folder

hollow vine
#

mods is beneath logs

#

but i do not see the roaming/minecraft

#

perhaps i've put it in the wrong area

#

but yes this is the .minecraft folder

ionic magnet
#

when you open minecraft, can you select the forge version ?

hollow vine
#

no

#

it doesn't show me the forge version

#

Can you direct me to the java install screen?

#

It might be that I'm using a java from a site that isn't the right one

#

although i did use the java website

ionic magnet
#

if you can launch minecraft you don't need another java version. Check if you can install forge with the installer I sent you.

hollow vine
#

you mean the one you sent earlier

#

alright

#

it just sends another forge-1.16.4-35.1.14-installer.jar

ionic magnet
#

yeah run that, select client and click ok

hollow vine
#

it sends a red file that i extract using unarchiver one

#

i haven't selected extract so this is weird

#

is it the right java if i've gotten it from oracle?

#

because after i've installed java it frequently disappears after saying i've installed it

#

(it also does not let me open forge with java)

ionic magnet
#

wait you unzipped the jar ?

hollow vine
#

yes

#

frankly the only thing i can do besides opening it with explorer or unarchiver

ionic magnet
#

that's the installer don't unzip that, run it

hollow vine
#

i cant

ionic magnet
#

can you run minecraft ?

hollow vine
#

yes

#

the java's not installed i think despite there clearly being an installed java

ionic magnet
hollow vine
#

hold on, i've got to delete the other installers that i added during my panic

#

theres another install running, great.

#

ive gotta find it and stop it

hollow vine
#

ugh

#

ok path variable

ionic magnet
#

the path variable should point to the bin directory of your java installation

hollow vine
#

yeah

#

ok so i went all the way to environment variables in windows 10 and 8 now im in edit environment variable

#

so i look for one that's java related

ionic magnet
hollow vine
#

don't think there's a java to put the variable into, for some reason

#

despite the frequent bloody redownloads in an attempt to get the java to pop up

#

im looking for the bin zip right?

#

did bin.exe

#

got the x64 installer for windows

ionic magnet
#

get an installer download java. If forge still can't be executed you then need to configure your path and java home variable

hollow vine
#

alright now back to configure the variable to choose x64 i presume

#

alright i put in environment variables under system variable x64 as a new variable named it java and selected it.

ionic magnet
#

dont just rename variables. check if you have java installed under programs

#

if you have java installed then configure the variables

hollow vine
#

yeah no, i don't have java installed oddly enough.

ionic magnet
#

then install it first

hollow vine
#

if i install it i'll just get the bits and pieces of the unarchived one

#

i think i should reseal it first

ionic magnet
#

you should install java first

hollow vine
#

installed again and i just got these again

#

i think i've ripped java apart

ionic magnet
#

what are you doing exactly right now. Just install java

hollow vine
#

i did

#

this is it

#

those files ARE java

ionic magnet
#

the java installer is an exe file

#

i don't know what you are looking at currently

hollow vine
#

wait no this is the insides of forge

ionic magnet
#

?? what are you talking about

hollow vine
#

anyways

ionic magnet
#

I'm neither gone nor invisible

hollow vine
#

you just vanished from the chat list for a bit confusing me

#

anyways

ionic magnet
#

did you finally install java ?

hollow vine
#

yes

#

i don't think it's meant to come as this

ionic magnet
#

to be honest I have no idea what you are looking at. I am asking you, did you download the installer and installed java ?

hollow vine
#

yes

#

the files there are now whats java

#

i dont know how i'm supposed to fix this and turn it into proper java

#

downloading java lead to these folders and papers

ionic magnet
#

the directory

hollow vine
#

it's in documents currently

#

where should i put it

ionic magnet
#

no, why ?

hollow vine
#

i should probably put it somewhere else

ionic magnet
#

did you download the zip or the installer ?

hollow vine
#

yes i downloaded the installer

ionic magnet
#

and you followed the install wizard

#

it should in theory always configure the path and the variables for you

hollow vine
#

yeah i followed it

ionic magnet
#

create a separate folder called java and paste the contents there at your preferred location

hollow vine
#

inside is the java x68

#

*x64 Installer for Windows

ionic magnet
#

show me now your system variables

hollow vine
#

oh right

charred sigil
#

I would also reccomend you use a launcher specifically for mods, itll handle this stuff for you, and a lot of other stuff. (like curseforge: https://download.curseforge.com/)

charred sigil
#

np

hollow vine
#

anyway there is my system valuables

ionic magnet
#

if you open cmd and type java -version what output do you get ?

hollow vine
#

in the minecraft launcher

#

?

ionic magnet
#

in cmd...

hollow vine
#

oh still in the control

#

nothing

ionic magnet
#

what's in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Oracle\Java\javapath ?

hollow vine
#

give it a few seconds

#

inside of javapath

#

the extras are probably due to before

ionic magnet
#

can you execute them ?

hollow vine
#

i can but they appear for a brief second then gone

ionic magnet
#

i mean can you run them with the command prompt

hollow vine
#

whats the command prompt again

#

uhhh

#

i believe i can

ionic magnet
hollow vine
#

alright

#

actually i dont have a command prompt apparently

ionic magnet
#

you do have command prompt, otherwise known as cmd or powershell

hollow vine
#

ah

#

was the system variable i made alright?

hollow vine
#

going to do the java home bit just askin bout that other variable

ionic magnet
#

it should be JAVA_HOME not java

hollow vine
#

yeah

#

wait a minute

#

i already had a variable for that-

#

the one i named Java

#

just changed it to JAVA_HOME

#

i need the other variable now though

ionic magnet
#

I don't think you need that. It should already be set correclty

hollow vine
#

alrighty

ionic magnet
#

now type java -version in the command prompt

hollow vine
#

ah no wonder i couldn't find it

#

only exists in the type here to search

#

gotta move Java SE Runtime Environment into the folder where the java is

#

or atleast next to it

#

... i think

ionic magnet
#

yeah you didn't install java correctly. registry keys are not set. Are you sure that you used the wizard ?

hollow vine
#

i'm pretty sure i did

#

gotta look into wiz again

#

just to be sure

#

i put it into the java folder inside Oracle right?

ionic magnet
#

you don't move the folder anywhere

#

you follow the installation wizard and the path as well as the java home variable is set for you

hollow vine
#

well shit i've lost the wizard

hollow vine
#

cant find it

#

how does one set the registry keys

#

hmmm

hollow vine
#

wait what keys do i even set

hollow vine
#

@ionic magnet what values should i set the keys

ionic magnet
#

you don't set registry variables by hand. You use the install wizard to install java properly and if the installation is broken you uninstall all the other java installs that windows found on your system.

hollow vine
#

well damn

#

should i reinstall and follow the wizard again

ionic magnet
#

that would the best course of action.

hollow vine
#

alright...

#

time to yank out the jdk and follow it that way

hollow vine
#

oh great javapath isn't available

#

i didnt even get ready to reinstall the jdk

#

well thats a problem for another day

#

to do list:

#
  1. get the javapath to work again
