Select folder with JFileChooser

i'm trying to use JFileChooser to assign the path of a folder to a variable called path. when the file browser opens, and I select my desired folder, instead of "selecting" that folder, it just opens it. my question being, is there some way I can get the path to that folder instead of opening it? thanks
