In Eclipse, the default compliance level is 17 but I want to put it to the highest level of 19. However, when I go to configure JREs > standard VM > directory, java doesn't it show up and is instead documents. What do I do here?

it says that default is 17, but for a new project will be used 19

#

so you are fine

potent timber
#

isn't it supposed to be jre 19.0.1 or something

foggy cedar
#

it's inactive

#

because you chose 19 manually

potent timber
foggy cedar
#

that's right. You choose what you want. You chose to select on your owm, and in optionbox you selected 19 (or 17, up to you)

#

everything is fine. select 19 and create project

potent timber
#

idk in this tutorial I'm watching, the guy had 13.0.1 (this was in 2020)

foggy cedar
#

code written in 13 will be working in 19

potent timber
#

I'm so paranoid because when I forgot to uncheck the info module thing, I couldn't run my code. I'm getting really annoyed with these seemingly small problems tbh

foggy cedar
#

just strictly follow guide and that's it

potent timber
foggy cedar
#

it's not active, it doesn't matter what is selected in there

#

the checkbox is "use the execution environment JRE" and you chose 19. That's it.

potent timber
#

so I can just select 19 from here, and it'll be fine? If so, is there anything else I should do here to prevent any future problems?

foggy cedar
#

yes

#

there is really nothing to to do anymore except to select the location for your project

potent timber
#

wdym

#

do I click default location

foggy cedar
#

just click Browse and select the place where you want your project to be stored

#

or click on "use default location"

#

and you will be fine

potent timber
#

sorry if all these questions are bothering you

foggy cedar
#

if you are going to follow the guide that uses 13, so it doesn't matter absolutely

potent timber
#

sorry another problem, I apparently don't have any system library here, so I can't even print something out

#

the top one is from the guy in the video

red marsh
potent timber
red marsh
#

lmao fr use Intellij

potent timber
#

do you know how I can delete it without it retaining any memory

red marsh
#

retaining any memory? can't you just uninstall it normally?

potent timber
potent timber
red marsh
#

you always have to save your files when you edit them in Eclipse

#

that's one downside

#

might confuse you at times

potent timber
#

screw it should I just find another tutorial for a different java program

red marsh
#

what are you having trouble with exactly

#

you should show the project screen'

#

and then the project

#

file > new > java project

potent timber
#

no the main from before gets added

#

and it's prob too late because I also tried deleting some things to see if it can work it out

red marsh
red marsh
potent timber
#

at this point I just want to get rid of Eclipse without it retaining anything I put out the last two hours

#

I'm in too deep now

red marsh
#

you mean remove it completely?

potent timber
#

yes

red marsh
#

that shouldn't be an issue

potent timber
#

restart COMPLETELY

red marsh
#

uninstall and reinstall

potent timber
#

apparently it is for me because I tried already but it retained some memory of things I did before, like putting a main class for my code

red marsh
#

a main class?

#

like it was already there when you first started the Eclipse?

potent timber
#

great now I can't even redownload it

red marsh
#

why don't you just use the installer instead of the runtime image

potent timber
#

wait nvm I was able to download it, but look, it still remembers what I put before

#

how do I remove all possible memory from eclipse?

red marsh
#

how are you uninstall Eclipse

#

firstly

potent timber
red marsh
#

okay press the search bar

#

for windows

#

and search for add or remove programs

#

if you can't find it find the Eclipse installer and uninstall that way

potent timber
#

in downloads?

red marsh
#

how did you install Eclipse

potent timber
#

from the website

red marsh
#

didn't you download the installer?

potent timber
red marsh
#

never got a screen like this?

potent timber
#

nope

potent timber
#

I got something like this

red marsh
#

wth why is it a pain to uninstall Eclipse lol

#

I swear I remember it being easier

#

What I did that seemed to work was Help > About Eclipse IDE > Installation Details select everything and press unistall

#

then delete the directory for folder under the eclipse folder where you stored your installation

#

then reinstall

#

btw

potent timber
#

Sorry for the inconvenience

red marsh
#

wdym its temporary. you can always create a new one if it gets shutdown for some reason

#

some of these posts are tens of hours old

potent timber

Really? Heard something like a 300 minute limit

potent timber
#

do you know where I should go?

red marsh
potent timber
red marsh
#

it will make things easier to manage

#

you can delete all you eclipse files if you are uninstalling. That's what the StackOverflow Post suggested

potent timber
#

I wanna delete everything before I uninstall

red marsh
#

just search for Eclipse in File Explorer

potent timber
red marsh
#

if you installed it like the way you did that's what happens

#

it would be only one folder if you used the installer...

potent timber
red marsh
#

what are you even trying to do

potent timber
#

even when I deleted everything the download files still show up. How do I remove every possible memory of eclipse

red marsh
#

then move the zip to the trash bin

potent timber
red marsh
#

what files are you worried about

#

it will

#

If you use the installer

potent timber
red marsh
#

delete them??

potent timber
#

I don't know how to get rid of those

red marsh
#

lmao move them to the trash been

#

or select them and press delete

potent timber
red marsh
#

when you click one

#

and then right click it you don't see delete anywhere or the trash bin icon?

red marsh
#

can you move it to the desktop?

potent timber
#

how do I do that

red marsh
#

drag it to your desktop

potent timber
#

it says "copy" to desktop

#

is that fine

red marsh
#

click on open file location actually

#

then you can delete the zip file

potent timber
red marsh
potent timber
#

oh I meant to send just one image mb

red marsh
#

and then you can

potent timber
red marsh
#

because you have both selected..

#

pick one you want to find the location of

#

you can't choose both to find

potent timber
#

ok it sent me here, but only 2 of the eclipses are zip files

#

what do I do with the other one

red marsh
#

just delete them all. isn't that what you were intending to do?

potent timber
#

oh I feel like they're still going to be remembered :/

red marsh
#

that's not possible if you install it the way I suggested.

potent timber
red marsh
#

if you have anything downloaded that you don't want to then delete it. you keep saying these files exist like they are impossible to get rid of when there is literally a trash bin icon on the screenshot you just sent

#

none of this should be an issue.

#

delete the files regardless of zip or unzipped. download the installer and install your desired version and but done with it

potent timber
red marsh
#

yes right click the bin and empty it

#

still shouldn't matter

potent timber
#

how does it still remember that

red marsh
#

omg it's because you never deleted your work-space folder lmao

#

it's not that big of a deal you an delete the projects in there and you're good

potent timber
#

and I'm saying that lightly

red marsh
#

delete the projects in this folder

#

C:\Users\{username}\eclipse-workspace

potent timber
red marsh
#

I gave you the absolute path to the folder

#

what more do you want?

potent timber
#

I legit have no idea where to go from here

red marsh
potent timber
red marsh
# red marsh

literally copy and paste this into the address bar in file explorer

potent timber
red marsh
#

your username

potent timber
red marsh
#

yes delete them

#

and all your worries will be gone 🙂

potent timber
#

I really hope so 🙏

#

tysm this was stressful af

#

prob going to be more stressful than the coding itself

red marsh
#

lol yeah file explorer if you don't know how it works can be a bit of a pain
