what's the output of java -version?
maybe user specific environment variables?
what's the output of set in cmd?
just set?
does it contain java specific stuff?
yes
i will check
it should show all resolved environment variables
but java -version shows that weird output?
and nothing with tool options or arguments in the output of set?
and nothing similar to Xmx512M?
just the thing with the weird u in front of it
Did you recently attemt to change how much memory (RAM) is given to Minecraft?
in the output of set?
no, in the java -version
yeah, but that was in one of the attempts to fix this issue
How did you do that?
environmental variables i believe
which ones?
remove completely?
or completely remove the environment variable
oh and you might need to restart to apply the changes
like first click ok in the environment variables thing
so is this. normal now?
then restart cmd and the Minecraft launcher
yes
alright, i got the error again but im gonna assume it's cause i didn't restart
so i'll try that first
i'm still getting this when i try to launch minecraft :(
did you completely close Minecraft launcher etx before that?
yeah, i closed through task manager
then you reopened Minecraft launcher and then Minecraft?
didn't get to open minecraft, i opened the launcher, clicked play, and then got that message after a few seconds of loading
does Minecraft launcher allow you to configure jvm args etc?
or java options or something with java runtime?
or arguments
?
yessir
now it gives me this error instead
hm
(i also wanna say i really appreciate you helping me out, i am just a silly little guy who wants to mine the craft)
did you ever touch the java executable thing?
I meant earlier
oh! nope
i changed it to javaw.exe cause a friend suggested, but both versions give the same error
go back to javaw.exe
then take the whole stuff with jvm arguments
copy it somewhere so you have a backup of the text
then remove the entire line under jvm arguments
so with the jvm arguments removed, you are getting the white error box
and without it, you are getting the launching the game failed error?
with and without the arguments removed, i get the launching the game failed error
ok
ignore me actually idk what im talking abt
seems like the java executable is wrong
like that Minecraft wants some specific Java version
but you are using a different one
if you can get it to use the bundled Java version, it might work
ok well good news, it's giving me a different error now
well. thank you for your help but it's very late for me now and i am just going to make myself cry with frustration
i'm still getting the incompatible java error even after setting the path to the bundled java (tried both java.exe and javaw.exe, same error) so im. so unsure
