idk how much help this will be but I dug through my files and found the tools I used to rip the OST from Killing Time. It used some format called "ZStream". I cannot for the life of me remember where I found the download for the chunk reader tool, but it functions

Whats annoying about the 3do version is they jacked the traffic levels up but only made it 1v1, where as the later ones are no traffic with 4 other cars. If you mod the 3do version to have the high poly cars as the traffic cars, the frame rate doesn't dip at all. Idk why they chose the 1v1 shit

After encountering audio skipping in a mint copy of Gex, I decided not to fight the drive and to simply get one of the available internal ODEs (since the external ODEs look like they might be out of production for a while). Thankfully, it looks like the board is pretty much plug & play inside for the FZ-1.

I mentioned a while back doing a Sorted set for 3DO, but I believe it's largely redundant to the existing XPort set, so that's what I would recommend using instead. Given it's from 2022, however, I'll make sure it's not missing anything from the latest Redump lists & create a small list of additions if they are.

So I've been looking at redump cue files, and I noticed that the 3DO seems to be the single console that most commonly uses Indices above 01 on the disks

Actually really weird anamoly: excluding discs which are marked as (beta), it's all Japanese-developed or Japanese-released games that use indexes above 01

2. 02 is the highest Index used
3. The only non-beta non-Japanese-developed game to use Index 02 is Disc 2 of Brain Dead 13.
4. The European version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo also uses Index 02. No other releases do

The 3do core design was created by David needle and RJ Mical. Both coming from being 2 core people of Amiga and the Atari lynx.

The original 3do had multitasking capabilities via the OS, early version of what can be considered unified ram, and a very sophisticated OS. The sprite engine was a 32bit evolution of the 16bit lynx engine. The core design of the original 3do was carried over to the M2, with mutlitasking being better fueled using multiple CPU cores and unified ram, with an OS to drive it all and backwards compatibility... An architecture style that would be similar to that used in the original Xbox, but essentially directly copied in a more advanced method with the 360

I know a birdie or two who works for Microsoft, and as of 2020, multiple 3do people were still employed under the Xbox team and a few m2 prototypes being thrown out were saved

That's what I ran. just add [3DO] main=MiSTer_3DO_v2 at the bottom of your mister.ini. FZ1 bios renamed boot.rom. must use dual ram. Controller menu button will not work. must use menu button on hardware or keyboard f12 which hopefully will be fixed soon. Must use bin/cue not chd.

There's functions for dealing with CHD files baked into mister, but per-core support functions still need to actually explicitly deal with CHD files and use the correct functions. MiSTer doesn't just auto handle this.

some strange observations about direct video

My setup: official DE-10 nano with dual 128mb 2.9 sdram, DAC hooked to HDMI port outputing RGBS 15kHz to CRT TV

What I tried:

1. MiSTer_3DO_v2 as main (not working, no video at boot)
2. main=MiSTer_3DO_v2 on [3DO] (not working, no video as I start the core)
3. simply starting the core on my standart main (v260220) -> I can get to the 3DO bios, video ok

So, it seems to be a problem with the video signal, I only get black screens when using the 3DO main, core seems to be setup correctly as, although is not the correct procedure, I can get something on my normal main

We probably don't need to get too concerned about this on day one, but there is an aditional kanji rom that is needed in adition to the BIOS to display Kanji in some games. Maybe this is baked in to the core, or not supported yet, but anyone who wants to check: Blue Forest Story, Lucienne's Quest (Japanese version), Twinkle Knights, and Life Stage Virtual House will either fail boot or have corrupted text (thanks awbacon for the info here)

The 32MB ram is of a very old design, it was mentioned awhile back by Kitrinx for people going dual ram shouldn't be banking 32MB as it could lead to issues, and really nobody should be using 32MB ram for anything anymore.

Awesome to get the WIP 3DO core. Thank you @crisp zealot . Tested the core of course with the first 2 games = Super Street Fighter 2X (Japan) and Wolfenstein 3D (USA). Both games run perfectly. Both games have (slight) audio pops & crackles and general audio is very low. I'm running the core through direct video on a RGB CRT = the video is shifted horizontally to the left about an inch - it would be great if there can be a horizontal position option added to the video options. Also the OSD can not be accessed by the button on the controller that is set up for it, for now the OSD can only be accessed by F12 on a keyboard - that would be great if that can be fixed. And I tested both games as a CHD (I have the entire 3DO library as CHDs on an USB stick 😛 ) = both CHDs worked without a problem. CHDs should be supported by the core in the long run.

My layman's understanding is that fonts are a bit weird. Basically bitmap fonts don't get copyright in most countries (but do in a few), while "font programs" (e.g. most modern TrueType/OpenType fonts) almost universally do get copyright.

people should remember to play the 1.1 version of Killing Time. Original disc has a bug with exploding polygons if you transition between load zones while also touching the wall geometry and you can save the bug into your save file if you save before quitting
