So I’ll need to dig into the unstable nightly channel? Sorry noobtacular noob here
The bottom one… right?
Oh it’s literally just a drop in file… don’t have to play with repositories and stuff… ok I think it’s making sense, thanks
The Atari Jaguar core loading anything at all is a miracle. If it’s not working for you then just wait until a more stable build is released on the future.
PSX_shift240 is a build of the PSX core that some people recommend to fix audio distortion with the new 9.2 IO Boards
I have this problem, and while it fixed most sound issues, it also had stability issues, freezing in ff7/ff8, weird audio issues in Wild Arms
I'm testing PSX_shift180 now instead, and it seems much better
though I'm curious if this is something that has to be baked into the core, or could it be supplied with an ini file somehow
Hmm will need to drop in wild arm to see, I’m familiar enough with the game’s sounds… is that visible (I mean hearable) on the opening cinematic?
it's not on every track, my test was to load the game and go out to the overworld, which was almost always messed up
it's not distorted like most games on the unshifted core though, almost like samples are playing at the wrong time, or in the wrong key, kind of fun in a way
one easy to reproduce problem in the 240shift version was in FF8, go to the learn menu for a GF, the game froze consistently for me
I can’t seem to find the core to reinstall it…
I'm not sure where they are available other than in the #1046940919607345272 channel, one sec
scroll down a bit for a few others, not sure where I found 180
do you have distorted audio through analog out on the IO board though? if not, you likely don't need this at all
#1046940919607345272 message has the 180shift that is working well for me
Thx
I am not home yet to try it out
I think it’s some weird issue specific to the Mister Pi stuff?
Hey, does it have to be Taiwan or something?
Been using the knob I had lying around for a bit, but the antenna version came in today
That freq list is incomplete
Lemme paste the real deal here
TW is just what was there already
freq_list=2412 2417 2422 2427 2432 2437 2442 2447 2452 2457 2462
Makes sense, guess it really doesn't matter all that much... reminds me of putting custom firmware on the old Linksys routers and just select random countries lol
Ideally you should have your 2.4g and 5g WiFis with different names
The freq list above is just for when you have them using the same name
Which is my case
NEVAHHHH
Otherwise you just configure it to your 2.4g ssid
It’s not doing well with your 5G? Intermittent?
I have a cheap knob from TP link lying around, but due to the placement of the Mister, the connection on the Bluetooth is spotty, so antenna would be a better option I think
I wonder if it’ll be ok if I just did nothing lol
Like what’s your 5G symptoms?
Basically “internet unavailable” on any update scripts
Could still ssh to it though
Weird
I’m just glad it works fine with 2.4g so that’s still the best BT dongle I could find so far haha
Let me test it in 10min, got to pull the card and put some stuff in it first
Wanted to test the Saturn core and the psx core, just got home, might as well just do all the testing together
Anyone know if old Nero image nrg files are supported on Mister?
I can convert it to MDX, but I still donno if that's supported lol
I do not think so. bin cue and CHD are supported by most cores
Some of my old Saturn games are archived with NRG lol
Let me try to convert it to ISO and THEN recompressed to CHD lol
Bin/cue or chd are the only supported cd formats on mister
There are many Saturn games that need to be multi file bin cue in order to work properly. CHD compatibility also depends on your CHD compression level
I see, I usually just select and click on "convert" using namDHC lol
I use CHDMAN and so far the default settings have worked fine
Any update? I just ran update.sh and it seems fine
But good to know if it messes up I still have options to change the ini
namDHC is just gui’d front end for it anyways
Just leave it then!
Nice to know you had no issues
Sorry to bug you lol..
Yeah so far seems perfectly fine… i wonder if just need to turn on and off again (sorry that was a bad joke)
Feels like it sounds… fine?
Is that HDMI sound?
HDMI is not affected
Only affects analog audio output (non-optical)
Oh ah…
Let me put a headphone in and check
Hmm sounds ok, sorry it sounds a bit blown out trying to record headphone onto phone… I wonder if it’s fixed on Batch 2?
It’s unfixable
And it doesn’t affect every setup
Oh
Whaaaaaa?
What makes the fix even harder
I see
Did you check the sound with the regular PSX core or just the shifted?
Try the regular core with Parasite Eve opening scene
Regular, haven’t tried shifter if it works
Ok
Wife forcing me to dinner, let me check that in 30min
I need to finally beat the chrysler building anyways eventually
You better obey her haha
Yes, I can text but if I’m not physically at dinner table then…
Opening scenes of PE is... after the cinematic right?
I'm in watching the opera, and it sounds... fine
You’re the lucky one on the silicon lottery
Make sure you try some sega cd games as well
I lost that lottery but the dac worked well
Ok sega CD... let's try that out
HDMI is totally fine normally regardless right?
As far as I know yeah. I got mine to play on my CRT so I had to do something about it lol
One of those HDMI audio extractor things?
I used to use one for Cheap DIY 5.1 surround
The dac plugs into the analog audio out via mini toslink
Oh the Tos converter, oh yeah this this has optical out
It's the same optical out as the old MacBooks
Yeah, it's a neat backup option
Man I had forgotten how bad the terminator game was, and how great the soundtrack was lol
@faint imp Hmm, the signal distance is SO much better with the antenna... I can even play it from the couch now lol
here is wild arms on the 240shift core for me (180shift sounds perfect)
not really distorted, just, weird
Hey, I appologize if this has been brought up before but I've spent probably the last 2-3 hours looking for answers here and on the documentation regarding Keyboards.
I setup last night and the keyboard was working fine. This morning I bought a TPlink WiFi AC600 and plugged it in today and now none of my Keyboards are responding.
I redid the instructions to load up the SD card per the instructions on the Firmware/Setup oage from retroremake.co.
I swapped plugging the USBc cable from my PSU front power outlet to a 5v 2A USB and swapped USB cables because another post advised to make sure the power was sufficient.
I also disconnected the Wifi dongle and no go and now I'm on my third keyboard solution and it's still not responding.
Any suggestions?
are you using an inline switch for power?
No, it's plugged directly into a surge protector that is plugged directly into my wall.
what ports are you plugging the keyboard into?
It's plugged into the MiSTer Pi directly. I get the same response if I plug it into the MiSTer USB Hub
can you show me which ports?
there are 3 usb ports on the mister pi that won't work with a keyboard. 2 are power only and one is the bridge port (it is deactivated when you use the usb hub)
the two ports on the side with the HDMI port are power only
the port that is on the same level as the ethernet port is the bridge port
I was plugging it into the USB next to the Ethernet
and i think i've switched that WiFi dongle too and plugged the keyboard into that port
No green light illuminated on that port. Is the usb hub connected?
I know issues with the batrider/raizing core are common but just reporting in that batrider and i believe garegga straight up don't run for me and cause some sort of lock up that requires a reset
They never got a 24 bit color update, so they will not work with the MiSTer Pi analog IO board.
Yeah, that core is unofficial and built out of spec so it doesn’t run for a ton of people. It’s a known issue and unfortunately we don’t know if they’ll be fixed if at all. Best solution is just to play those games on the Saturn core.
I don't think batrider has any home ports
You’re probably right! I was thinking of Kingdom Grandprix?
Unless something drastically changes in the next 34 hours, it likely will get updated
HOOORAY
I’m getting Deja vu
HOORJ
We’ve had this conversation in the past haven’t we
We have. But I think it’s actually happening this time 🙂
Oops sorry
No no, this is a recent development
If that is what they end up doing in q1, they are planning on adding the missing games too
Woah, what are the missing cores?
No idea. I think they are on the toaplan side?
stuff like batsugun, Doggyun etc
(although the Saturn port of Batsugun is pretty good if you want to play it now)
hopefully the 'rework' does some heavy lifting and a lot of the kinda subtle issues get fixed in the process
like garegga has too much input delay and there's something not quite right with some cpu wait states/timing or something
What about the cringe intro edited into the Zakk mra, will that get fixed?
I'm going to improve it to show a picture of my feet
I'm still waiting for that rom to get 'discovered' in the wild and added to mame as a clone
Just got a Mister PI and a second rom module. To install it, do I need to change any keys on DE-10 clone board as I need to do with the original DE-10 nano?
not as long as you're still using the 9.2 io board (without the mezzanine)
I will not use it. Using the original De-10 nano I need to turn on a key. Do I need to do the same with Taki’s board to enable dual ram?
yeah, if you're not using the 9.2 board, you need to flip the switch (the 9.2 board has a framework feature that negates the need for the switch)
switch 3
We are go for launch
Sorry for the silly question but wich one is switch 3?
should be the one on the left there
This one in yellow?
nope, one to the left of it
the first switch on the right is switch zero
so it should be 3210 in that pic
Given the silk screen orientation, that ordering is annoying.
Great! Thanks for pinging me. 🍻
So the Neogeo core after the taki install seems to be missing some files. I have been able to track down what I think I need in the game root directory.
000-lo.lo
sfix.sfix
sp-s2.sp1 (MVS)
neo-epo.sp1 (AES)
uni-bios.rom
I found all the files but can't seem to find X I can find neo-epo.sp1 I have found a neo-epo.bin are these the same but for the extension renamed or are they different files entirely?
Here’s the MD5 if that helps b11751ad42879c461d64ad2b7b2b0129 neo-epo.sp1
Thanks but this is right over my head lol
Start your mister
Scroll to the left (or hit the menu button) and select SCRIPTS
You’ll get a warning, it’s ok, just hit Yes
Select Update_all from the scripts menu. It will start
When the countdown starts hit UP on your controller
There will be an option for like “optional files” or something. Look for bioses to be mentioned
Once you have that menu open, turn on the bios repository.
Hit ok until you’re back to the main menu. Select save and exit. And then let update all run
Will need to dl/copy the update_all script over to your SD card: https://github.com/theypsilon/Update_All_MiSTer?tab=readme-ov-file#setup
I think it's on Taki's card already
(As well as all those various core duplicates but we will cross that bridge when we come to it)
Happy new years fellow tinkerer's!
Any fun projects for this new year? I'm excited for my PS2 snac to get here, I'd love to have a fully functional light gun cab before the end of the year, all thanks to mister!
I was going to build a new gaming PC, but the rumored prices on new video cards can go fuck themselves into the sun
I stopped PC gaming even before covid. We had our first kid in 2018 and I didn't attempt another build until 2022. It was budget and still way more than I wanted to spend 😂
PS1 And neo geo are completely worth the price of admission.
Everything else is a bonus
I got into this to play video games, but now the preservation side kind of excites me more. Like Jotego doing the system 16 core today. I don't know if I care about any of those games, but I'm happy they are being preserved
I decided to give myself one last headache before the new year. No troubleshooting needed tonight unless you know a quick fix.
Used a fresh .ini and changed scan doubler for my 31khz arcade monitor. As soon as I plug in the VGA, the Mister shuts off.
I'm guessing there is some voltage that is out of wack. Not sure to be honest. Or I need something entirely different for an arcade monitor. It's a SVGA
For the record it was not on mine, I had to get it myself
Ahh ok
Need retrotink
I wish I wasn't worried that my kids would destroy a tv like that.
Ey nice. We just got a C4
Lol the "cheaper" retrotink. They'll have to try again before they get me
I had a 65C1 but $1499 for a 77C3 at Best Buy last week was too hard to pass up
They're really great TVs. I'm still using a CX for my PC
Oh it’s 100% a concern. My C1 just went to the living room but it’s r/tvtoohigh scum up there above the fireplace so it should be out of her throwing range for now
The basement…. Well…. She will be monitored very close around this lol
A that wall looks like shit in pics wow I guess I should repaint it 🤣, B why does my 77 look like a 42. I need a 100” C5 next year
Does anyone else have audio popping issues on the Mega CD core when listening through the headphone jack on the analog board?
Yeah
anecdotally, I've heard turning on the composite blur effect stops the popping?
I get popping also on the GBA core (original de-10 and ram + mister pi ioboard)
cheaper but still thinking more about the morph 4k lol
this popping definitely didn't exist on a real gba, it only happens over analog out
testing turning on composite blur, actually makes the popping more severe
it’s the 9.2 board
I suppose it depends a lot on the use case? Retrotink comes with analog inputs, so it is judt plug an play. morph you need to install an expansion board. But if you don’t care about analog inputs, or you care for something that can be implemented in the expansion board i.e. analog output,
true
I imagine they'll sell a pre-assembled morph4k with the expansion board
Morphs will be available with analog inputs soon. The analog input cards are being made at our factory, and when they’re done we’ll have a pre-assembled ready to go version for $375.
Retro gamers are living the life of luxury with so many amazing products available to extend the life of their favorite games.
Love how inexpensive the Mister Pi and morph4k is. Makes retro gaming more accessible to everyone.
I don’t want any analog, I just want to go from mister to oled and look better than it does now
Does the morph do the mister core detection stuff like the retrotink?
Yes it does
Why do people find the built in mister scaling so poor?
I’m just a simple tubeman but from what I’ve seen it looks good
The built-in Mister scaling is awesome, but upscalers bypass the poor upscaling done by a lot of TVs
I had the exact same question haha
Yeah I get it’s avoiding the last mile 4k upscaling but is it $750 bad?
I think the last mile upscaling introduced some input lag on some displays too
For some people the investment is worth it. Not for me however, which is why it's nice the morph4k is like $275
it looks really nice with my Gamecube
For complete transparency, the kind people at morph4k gave me my unit. So I'm going to be biased here.
but I blame them for enabling me on modding my GameCube lol
4K is nice for dialing in full height zoom with really uniform pixels
omg noooo
I like just leaving my mister in direct mode and letting the Morph handle it
But I also have a Wii U
I cannot hide it, I'm so happy with my modded GameCube + morph4k
Which plays GameCube games lol
oh damn that's cool
@wary turret I am proud of you for not shaming us with your superior CRTs

Yeah Wii U can play GameCube natively but Nintendo never enabled it due to the disc drive not taking the mini discs
Good thing the home brew scene took care of that
oh shit had no idea
It’s nice they have a way to sort of enjoy these games
But I have been considering modding my GC with one of those fancy ODEs they have now
How are you outputting from GC to morph?
Yeah it's awesome, I got the flippydrive + retro prism
retro prism connects to the digital output and I connect that to the morph4k with hdmi
There’s also the GC RetroGEM coming soon 😉
oh nice!
your remote also controls my air purifier which is kind of hilarious
(We used an RPi2040 to decode the Wii usb controller packets)
Morph4k does seem like a much more reasonable price point for you scaler people. If I upgrade from my OSSC I’d grab an analog morph. And then stick it as one of my matrix switcher outputs that will never get chosen except when weirdos are over with perverse desires like playing on a bigger screen
Alright I’m sold. Need to cool down from buying this new TV then I’ll get one. 🤣. Don’t wanna end up in the doghouse unless I can take my tv
What kind of CRTs do you play on???
Little consumer TVs, big consumer TVs, broadcast monitors, arcade monitors
PC monitor for PC games
I pair monitors to the game like fine wines
“This 1994 Toshiba is an excellent vintage”
I keep a 720p plasma just for the PS3 and 360
Honestly I think the MiSTer scaling and video effects look pretty good. That said, the RT4K + LG C3 + MiSTer combo just looks incredible. The convenience of pushing a button to swap between a JVC D-Series, Sony Trinitron, or pea soup green DMG gameboy screen is really sweet. And the brightness of the OLED, super low latency, and etc makes it like an idealized version of the old CRTs.
You can even dial in misconvergence, etc.
Highly recommend
That said, I still have my KV-27FS120, KD-34XBR970, two little 9” TV/VCR combos, and a super janky 13” CRT that i feel super nostalgic for because it was the type of TV we had growing up.
The pedal works on PS2?
The pedal literally is a single cherry switch and I just wired up an extra ps360 pcb to the X button
Short answer yes
And then I just stuck a couple layers of the thick adhesive weather strip style foam to the back of those black mounting plates so you just shove it into the front of the cab with your foot and it doesn’t budge
I wish the Sinden lightguns were better supported on MiSTer. Feels completely community supported but closed source so you cant really ever fix anything…
I still have yet to take the plunge on an HD lightgun other than my GC3s because it seem like they all have just enough of a trade off, and enough die hard fanboys that will tell you “no it’s actually lagless like a crt gun” when… it never seems to be anywhere close to it
I want to try out the Gun4IRs
So I just keep waiting for a clear victor to emerge and it’s still just a back and forth between Sinden, Gun4ir, aimtrak, and now retro shooters
Sinden seems promising but very very little dev attention goes toward MiSTer
I sort of regret buying it
Setup on all them seems extremely annoying too. “Oh why are you trying to do it that way just subscribe to this xXSavagelord319Xx’s patreon for 16.99 so you can get access to his discord so you can get access to the secret telegram so you can get access to the latest greatest teknoparrot release where everything is already configured, duh “
Oh wait a week went by and you didn’t update? Time to find the next guys patreon secret handshake
Lol, I never knew there was a Patreon or a discord
Im on a Sinden discord and you ask a question and months go by without an answer
I actually re-rolled the installer in Python to set the special Sinden cores up with separate configs, MGL files, and custom MiSTer main, so update_all and changing configs in the normal cores would stop breaking things
Basically the best way to set those up is just to download a pre set up build, but to do that you’re quickly in the rom distribution business so everyone gets cagey about it so you’ve gotta figure out the secret handshake on your own to get any decent info because no one will talk about it too publically
Seems like the PC side is better supported
As far as I can tell, there are like 5 of us out there…Sinden MiSTer users
The mister side of things was a proof of concept that got a little love past that but doesn’t get much attention because I think he generally has bigger fish to fry
And it’s in that annoying closed source requires a fork side of mister that a lot of Dev folks turn their nose up at , and general users often won’t want to deal with the added headache of
Yeah seems like they are doing a lot of Arcade1Up business
Good for them…but I wish they would open source the MiSTer part
That's kinda what I want it for too lol
Being open might not help much, the problem with sinden is it’s built for PCs with enough power to do the CV processing and mister doesn’t have cycles to spare for that for cores like PSX. (So you end up with choosing to sacrifice accuracy) Plus the white borders not being appealing. Meanwhile Gun4IR does the work on the gun but then you have to deal with mounting emitters.
I am thinking of busting out my Gun4IRs again though to mess with the Lindbergh loader stuff
Dumb question: can mister just run it with the sinden pi breakout box and a snac adapter
I built 2 and they are awesome. It's just a pain to drag out into the living room. If I had a dedicated setup I would use them more. Accuracy was awesome and the recoil and rumble are excellent.
I built both for under $100 I believe.
Im not exactly sure, but it looks like it’s developed in dotNet and running in a Mono wrapper…
So you could probably sneeze and optimize the drivers
Gotcha
There’s some new open source one
Forget the name, but it’s like a 4 point IR system like gun4ir I think
So usual emitter caveats
Retro shooter?
Not open source
Yeah I saw Blamcon lightguns just got added to unstable mister main
Had to look those up…never even heard of them
Do you have a recommended build guide??? Reason Ive never tried is the kits look like they are $200+ for DIY
If you do build some, you can use Nerf guns rather than the more expensive (and getting rarer) GunCon2's: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4873187/remixes
SummaryThese parts are for JayBee's excellent Gun4IR project (https://github.com/JayBee-git/GUN4IR) which lets you create your own DIY lightgun with an IR camera, microcontroller, and 4 IR beacons. Go check it out, it rules. These parts will help you build a Gun4IR from a Nerf Alphapoint Laser Ops Pro toy gun, which is cheap and comes in packs of...
sweet
@civic badge if I remember correctly, a pdf is available on the gun4ir site. But it might be only available once you buy the license, I don't remember
If your time is more valuable than money, the diy kit really isn't that bad of a deal. I would at the very least get a premade pcb
I guess more than anything, Im looking for someone to vouch for Gun4ir being better than Sinden, GC3, Wiimotes, or other options available on the MiSTer
Tired of being underwhelmed. Part of the reason Ive kept the CRTs
The retroshooter guy was in here wondering about getting his guns working but I don’t think anyone took him up on it
They only track vertically for some reason
Hmm
I’ve used Aimtrak, Wiimote, GC3 and Gun4IR (not with mister for any of these). Gun4IR is better by a decent margin than the others but still not as good as native CRT guns. Never tried a Sinden (or even seen one in person at another nerds place)
What’s the question?
I suspect it would be slightly more laggy given it has to use CV to “see” the borders where the others are more hardware based
Tell them to DM me. I can test and do a tutorial for them / everyone
Gamingdoyle answered above
Ahh yes. GUN4IR is the gold standard. GunCon3 in a close second o
I'm hopeful that between PS1 and genesis there are enough gun games on the Mister to scratch my lightgun itch.
There are some great games available on teknoparrot though, so there is definitely a need for a modern solution.
But I agree, I would rather use a crt
Yeah was saying earlier I might dig the Gun4IRs out for some of that Lindbergh Loader fun. HOTD4 and that fun looking zombie lovers one
Have you ever tried a Sinden??? Im wondering how it compares with the Gun4IR and Guncon 3?
From my experience, the Sinden works well enough when it does. Its super fiddly and the stock installer scripts tend to step on your other MiSTer configs and break things. And because they didnt bother separating out configs into separate MGL files, separate custom MiSTer main, etc, everytime you run update_all everything breaks.
I’ve used a Sinden but not on MiSTer. I can say it works decently but the white border is just not for me
But seems to work great on Duck Hunt, Time Crisis, Point Blank, etc. Just a PITA because it requires custom cores, custom mister main, etc.
My biggest gripe is that it is just not well-supported for MiSTer users
Hence the reason Im considering selling and getting an alternative
@prisma fjord I sent you a PM for a video idea. Cheers!!!
So, I wasn't really understanding the conversation the last few days, is that a thing about making lightguns work on mister?
Like with modern non-crt?
or am I just completely off the message
Guncon 2 aint even that expensive
No, you understood right
Ah, way beyond me at THIS moment, but I guess I'll need to get into it eventually
I just bought a pair of GunCon 3s and they work great on every core without any setup quirks or issues.
There’s one issue: the guns look stupid
lol they really do
genesis entries are pretty lackluster, but PS1 is full of bangers and Saturn has a handful of real good ones too
A lot of modern gun games are pretty boring after the first playthrough, as the only skill involved in beating them is having like $30 in your pocket
Sega Golden Gun and Haunted Museum II are really fun though
Terminator Salvation and Aliens Armageddon are okay. I find Raw Thrills games to be a bit formulaic
I loved Rescue Mission in SMS, but haven’t touched it in 30 years so not sure if it really was good or just the one I had 😅
the halo fireteam one is possibly the most boring least interesting lightgun game ive ever played
I think I have everything I need! I haven't tried my commodore set yet but I believe all I needed to change is composite=1
Scrambled picture but I think I need SOG turned on
Are you connecting via composite or svideo (well luma/chroma rca jacks I suppose on 1702)
MisterPi doesn’t do good composite natively you’d want a mikeS active adapter ideally
I'm trying to do component to luma chroma. I have picture now, but it's in black and white.
I think I missed something in the .ini (I didn't use a fresh, I'll re do this in a bit)
I have a stable picture but it's in black and white
But yes, you were right
I thought I read that the adapter was more for composite.
I wonder if I need to set composite back to 0 and just use sync on green.
But I'm not totally sure
There’s one other change for svideo
Can’t recall off the top of my head
vga_mode=svideo
I might have been reading an old tutorial because they mentioned changing VGA mode to s video and i didn't see that option
I had to add it
Ahhhh, perfect. Just at the very end of the file?
I popped it up top, doesn’t really matter I think
So vga_mode=svideo, composite sync 1 and sync on green 1
Do I need to do anything with menu settings? Or will it apply to everything?
It’ll apply universally if it’s not under another heading
What’s the scoop on going vga to separated luma chroma for the 1702?
Thanks! I'll give that a go
Does it happen to align with a vga to 3 rca cable?
Red and green from vga correspond to Y and C (or C and Y, I forget)
This device is so cool for tinkerer's. I have so many random crt's (from proprietary apple, commodore, and medium and high res arcade) . So much fun
CRT support is the killer feature
And now it either natively or with addons or custom cables can connect to any CRT
Which rules
Yup. Being able to seamlessly switch between hdmi and CRT setups has been really nice too
I guess maybe there are exceptions
Just move the device from room to room without worrying about adapters
But on the whole consumer with any input TVs, pc monitors, pro monitors, arcade monitors
It can yeah
Heck yeah!
Is 2 player possible with something like tapto? I noticed that in order to get into OSD, it wants to read the navigation controller as a dualshock.
Perhaps they were thinking on multi tap?
whenever a new game loads, whenever you press an input on a controller it sets it as the next controller in line
so kinda like gamingdoyle said, not sure how tapto has any relation
@cloud estuary I meant that it picks my menu controller for 1 of the 2 controllers and I would like to use 2 guns.
But your saying that as long as I launch the core and pick a game, once I'm in game don't press anything else.
Or I suppose I can just save controller 1 and 2 to the snac
if you set snac to controllers 1 and 2 it will override anything
there's also an option in the menus to 'reassign player number'
and if you do that you can press buttons on (usb) controllers and they'll become P1/2/3/4 based on order pressed
Perfect, I think I have P1 and 2 working now. Too bright in my living room right now but time crisis was working great
You could do also core specific commands, like insert coin, etc. Should also work, if the core has an option for 2 players 😁
I have another question in regards to video. Do I need to just add the line NTSC=0
Sync is fine on the Mister home as well as the PSX core, but the Saturn core was giving me scrolling
*s-video
Nevermind, I needed to adjust VF a hair. PSX wasn't very picky from however I had it adjusted before.
Good enough to complete the first training level on point blank 😂
Probably not at least until after batch 3 ships
First we have to wait for the PSX thing
Then flagship
Finally the meat and potatoes
The handheld
oh I got lost in the order of things
it was all happening so fast
also, he was going to work on a non-mister fpga console
and that was supposed to be their main thing
oof I need to get a worse memory.
The PSX console is probably a smart move I guess, he’s probably trying to grab any analogue consumer money he can before they announce or release a PSX thing. Assuming that’s where they go next after N64
I have no idea what his roadmap is. Everyone is saying something different.
yeah I think it makes sense to do PSX stuff. Seems like we are in peak PSX and N64 nostalgia rn
Yeah that too
Damn kids
Snot nosed 30 year olds
Probably have to sew their mittens to their jacket so they don’t lose them at recess
We’re on the tail end of PS1/N64/SAT nostalgia.
ohyeah I guess they did make that Duke controller remake
Yeah GC got big early with cheap and easy mods
Shut yer mouth
yeah I feel like there are few of us NES fans left
Thems fightin words
We’re starting to hit PS3/360/Wii nostalgia
Robby has made fun of me so many times for playing 16 bit and under games
Werrrds
Nintendo always leads the nostalgia pack.
The relentless bullying has to stop
Basically it’s 20 year olds with disposable income who controls the interest level for retro consoles
When they enter the used game buying market, they typically drive up prices due to price ignornce
30 year olds know what they’re doing
yeah I think 20 year olds are busy
Get some warm fuzzies off simpler times
they have to make videos and go viral
You’re both right, but there’s a lot of young kids who quietly buy and consume vast amount of YouTube content
I mean Death in Castlevania. Gotta beat down that fool
oh yeah the 20 year olds are the biggest youtube watchers I'm sure
They don’t have a lot of income like the 30 year olds but there’s a lot of them and they drive prices up
So it’s not necessarily peak retro
That’s 30+ like you’re saying
retro for a 20 year old is ps4 and xbone
Yeah retro enthusiasts versus nostalgia chasers
But they enter the used game market and just buy shit at inflated prices because they have have no idea
Haha. stop it. No
So they’re definitely not the core audience, like you said it’s 30
But they’re the arbiter of change
PS2 horror is already a locked down genre lol
By PS4 though it’s just iterative and samey samey, with sequels and reboots galore
Good luck buying those games
Buy old games, you’re funny
lol
The N64/PS1 cores hit at a good time, along with the MiSTer Pi
I think we’re just past peak late 90s console interest
So there’s still a huge crowd of retro enthusiasts who grew up with those systems
And a lot of them don’t have a ton of disposable income so the MiSTer Pi is cheap enough to be affordable for people who are into retro gaming and want to be more serious about it
It’s why all the questions recently tend to focus around those two cores
Im not convinced the mister pi users on here can't afford a de-10 nano but the price was high for something they weren't sure they'd use a lot.
"Afford" is a very loose question
I can afford a lot of things, but that doesn't mean the price point makes sense
The old MiSTer economy didn't make sense, the new one does.
Affordability is subjective of course.
I mean it seems like half of users are buying fancy scalers
I mean, I'm one of those people who had MiSTer on my radar before Taki's board came out, though.
I'm not sure how many people didn't even know it existed until the publicity Taki's board got.
This discord server did add a couple thousand more members I think
He's sold 6000-7000 boards?
I mean, I didn't join the discord until after I bought.
Agree though it’s a “value” concept that’s pretty individual. For me obviously the value of mister is there even at say $500. While the value of an RTink4k is very low, something I’d rather spend like $100 on and anything higher feels like a waste for what it is. But obv there are people cool with $800 on an RTink but wouldn’t snag mister till it hit $170
for me, even the $400 price point was easily worth it for CPS+Neogeo, and everythign else has just been oodles of icing on the cake, I snagged one of taki's as well because it was hard not to pass up at $200
I think it was wickerwaka that pointed out during the time between the mister pi announcement and when it actually released you could have saved some meager amount of money a day and purchased a mister
and gotten it earlier
but people aren't rational
still 'feels' expensive
also I think the price of some of the prebuilts you could get was.....excessive
For the price of just a cup of coffee a day you can help feed a retro gamer
I got a second de-10 nano in late May/early June and it was awesome.
i paid a premium for porkchop's case, but it's been well worth it as someone who travels his mister al ot
that was really the only markup over building it yourself
Yeah before you get hooked, you just don't know what it's worth to you
Like cocaine
cocaine would have been cheaper
You should get the first mister free
but you can only play it at your friend’s friend’s seedy apartment
Everyone’s lying around in filth, Cheeto dust everywhere, controllers strewn about in a dim lit room
So standard gaming setup
I was just setting up tailscale
oh great another spy like Robby
👀
Does anyone know if Pork’s mt32pi bracket works on other cases? I need a mt32pi for my taki stack with a Todd case
I wonder if I can just flip the bracket and if the screws will line up with the top screws of the pi/todd case
Hey guys .van someone explain me what the flagship mister will be?is it a mister with better hardware or a handheld?
I think it’s with a built in display like a PVM?
Someone is going to have to verify that. I could be wrong lol.
@cloud estuary
Are u the honda i played against on fightcade?
I want a rematch
"I cant let u get close"
@cloud estuary
Kajoq will smoke you, you have to beat the mini boss @opal gust before you can challenge Kajoq
: )
i got a wow raid at 9est but i can run some before that
Ok now?
is anna nichole yo?
ggs
Gg
Bring it ho!
NEVAH! Every retirement home of our generation will have at least a couple of Misters or I ain't going
MMhmm, instead of being gouged $300+ for a DE-10 Nano in the aftermarket for a $190 ACADEMIC pricing item before building the stack, resulting in POSSIBLY as high as $600 if you're unlucky or $300 if you're SUPER lucky... Taki Udon is offering "effectively the same thing" as a full kit for $180, that's a bargain no matter how you look at it.
If you're into retro, it's almost like doing yourself a DISSERVICE to NOT BUY.
Exactly my rationale... I can certainly afford the stack, but it means getting part a from somewhere, part b from somewhere else, memory from another etc etc if I want to have it relatively soon... or wait to get all the parts gathered for the stack build for 6-8 months... Mister Pi is cheap, yes... but the CONVINIENCE is what really got me the kick in the butt to jump into Mister.
same
I couldn’t justify the cost of a full-stack-with-case mister before the MPi came along
RTink is totally worth the money for the parts, the engineering, as well as the software, but just not something I feel I NEED for... $750 before tax and sh&h
Was rocking a bare board with diy adapters
I almost did that jump a year and half ago...
I eventually sold that setup in anticipation of the MPi, got a full turbo kit for cheaper than what I sold the original one for
Yeah exactly actual value versus perceived value
But back then N64 and PSX cores are not really mature, or really that viable... so I decided to keep watching... glad I did because Taki announced it... and I was STILL on the fence until Batch 1 shipped... because what Taki Udon was offering felt too close to "too good to be true". I appreciate him a lot now, though...
MMhmm... It's not about affordability, but rather "does the need equal or goes above the value that will get me"
I mean, not everyone will drop $180+ Tax+ SH&H for effectively a "toy" either... so I'd say almost everyone in this discord are already "not el cheapo"
Yeah I waste way more than $750 on retro things other people would find real dumb so it’s hard to get too judgey on value
That's why I would gladly drop $5000+ for a piece of quality of life gear for work, because I can "make it back" in value... while dropping $750 for RTink or $475 for RTink CE doesn't feel like a good thing for me... I'd go with an arcade cabinet and all kinds of things attached to it way more, for the same money, since that's almost a showpiece, and I get the enjoyment of building it and restoring/modding it.
My most recent adventure for instance is a LaserActive player I’m about $800 into that for a broken player (now fixed) and a Megadrive pac. So I wanted a laserdisc player and decided to get the most expensive Genesis while I was at it 😂
Oooh, the ReizaaAkutibu lol
Speaking of LaserDiscs... did Dragon's Lair ever made it on the Mister? I remember talks about it a couple of years ago.
no
Figured
Something about Daphne core something
Too much logic?
Hmm there's a homebrew of PSX I wonder if that runs
no idea about the logic. the person doing it just...stopped
I mean, you could always just play the Gameboy Color Port. 😛
I wonder if it would even translate properly, like.... the original was a LaserDisc, right? I know they made a DVD version of the game at some point, though I have no idea how precise the timing has to be for that one.
And LaserDisc is... weird... Like, not entirely digital?
So, I mean.... you'd have to essentially spoof the entire laserdisc layer with something else, at which point is it even a core or is it just an emulator with extra steps?
@faint dune and @faint imp
Just an update on the USB hub that didn't work. I've got a new one and that one works like a charm.
If anyone else experience something equal. I had to take a picture of the hub and show what usb connections I've used. Also a picture of the power charger used.
The mister pi experience so far is that it works really well
Did the hub used to work before you connected something to the USB connector of the MiSTer Pi?
In Taki we trust! 🙏
I never got it to work. So i guess it was just toast. The new one worked first thing
xD
Not digital at all
Not the video anyway
Audio could be analog or digital
Great news. I have been hearing some middling things about taki’s support, so I’m so glad it was smooth (and you’re back up and running)
The optical media itself still uses discrete pits and such, so it's... SORT OF digital
In the loosest sense
They aren’t zeros and ones but yeah it’s still encoded
Pretty good pic from the wiki
The support was great. Just sendt them an e-mail comfirming the new hub is working and how great the mister pi is
That's really awesome news
Yeah, I mean, the pit is a representation of the waveform, but it's semi digital in that the analog wave is turned into a pit/no pit thing on a specific threshold, so it's not exactly digital, not exactly analog.
Yeah it’s basically analogue signal just read using a laser, think really really thin grooves record players… in fact some vinyl fans retro-invented a video format based on the record player iirc
The compression is horrible, and omits some footage
But playable
I think there was actually a real product like this that wasn't successful... RCA I think did it?
The Capacitance Electronic Disc (CED) is an analog video disc playback system developed by Radio Corporation of America (RCA), in which video and audio could be played back on a TV set using a special stylus and high-density groove system similar to phonograph records.
First conceived in 1964, the CED system was widely seen as a technological su...
Oh yeah that too
God old school engineering is so cool
You’re losing money by not buying!
Money expires if you don’t spend it!!
So I don’t have my Mister Pi anymore, can I still hang out here?
gifting one to a friend grants honorary access
Hooray!
Yeah he just arrived at his new apartment. Has nothing but a projector, his computer a small desk, and the MiSTer lol.
So uhhh, I’m pretty sure I saved his sanity
Jesus. Ghandi. Mother Theresa. Robby
The only thing I didn’t put on there was the Atari Jaguar and CDi cores. I didn’t want to play tech support on those two lol.
The MiSTer Pi is extremely well put together.
so what have you exfiltrated from his network so far?
nothing, it’s not hooked up!
keep asking him about it. "so have you put that thing on the network yet???"
JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE IT WORKS
When I was a kid I installed backdoors on my friend’s PCs so I could terrorize them lolol
The cost of a mister pi is nothing compared to emptying a bank account
I’d go over their house with a floppy, when they left I quickly inserted the floppy and ran an exe that would open a specific port and then hide the floppy
Should leave them on the sidewalk in NYC
See how many people foolishly plug their Robbpi into their home network and get pwned by the king of Linux hackers
I'm sure Robby's hack message would rival that of C64 crack intros
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFqBkSJOYOQ
Got covers for my SNACs
I was picturing Newman in Jurassic park with the “ah ah ah you didn’t say the secret word”
But Robby’s head
These are pretty great
Only saw pc crack equivalents
yeah - people love rocking that SID chip
EXACTLY!
What Dockula said lol
Neat, looks like mine?
What did you end up having to fix??? I have a nice Pioneer LD player that I would love to fix, but pretty sure its a laser issue
My Panasonic LD Player works like a champ, but requires disc flip
How do we convince Retroflag to make a Mister Pi case like this one? https://youtu.be/N4CSEERBV88
The N64 Mini Classic Edition probably will never happen... but finally we made one anyway.

@strong falcon please send them a board! Show them how much better Mister is than an RPi.
What is the standard for swapping back and forth between scanline/mask filters and none without losing my settings. I want to easily turn them off when im running a crt but then have them back when im on my arcade or living room tv.
run alt inis
see
Batch 3 should ship soon right? Anybody excited?
Set a default filter in your main ini and create a mister_CRT (and mister_TATE if necessary) that omits the default filter
Then load up the CRT ini and undo all the filters you’ve set for individual games 🫠
Replaced two belts, recapped / reflowed the power board (the caps let go and caused a huge mess), cleaned the laser. I’m going to recap the remaining boards which should take a bit because it’s a couple hundred caps 😅. LaserActive are notorious for leaky caps and cold solder joints though, not sure for their other players
Going to tuck in and do the remaining caps likely starting today. Only a couple hundred more 😅
@queen onyx what is this micro usb m-f cable used for on a MiSTer Pi - Ironclad Lite setup?
Hey anyone can tell me which lightguns will work on the mister pi?thx
USB or SNAC + CRT?
@robby im confused someone said i need a snac. I bought a vga to scartcable with lightgun plugin
I play on crt always
@cinder crane
You’ll need a controller SNAC cable too. So for example on the PS1 with a GunCon you’ll need to connect it to the PS1 controller port and a yellow composite port.
@cinder crane
With this u still need a snac?!
Here is an example - https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister-snac-playstation-psx-adapter/
the important thing is you need to also be able to connect your lightgun too, not just using the composite cable
See how it has a normal controller connection + yellow composite cable?
But guncon 2 has usb?
Oh GunCon 2
Im good with just the cable?
Yeah!
LMAO
But robby
oh no you found the other Discord’s Robby gifs
That’s a good write up
Yeah I really need to lol
XD
also forearms too
Lmao i dont understand people who train forearms like u get them when u do pull ups 😄
they like the veins popping I guess?
Compound movements only. Im lazy. Workout need to be quick
oh important to note, since you’re using USB, you can’t do light guns on the Saturn core yet
It’ll come eventually, just not available now via USB
Ok thank you
Good to know
No virtua cop
"We got virtua cop at home"
Time crisis xD
@cinder crane my main problem is i wanna spend more money on mister stuff but dont know what i need or just want to have.life is so hard
Bought a mt 32 pi
But now i think its not enough
Bro, the MiSTer is like a controller money pit 😂
I stopped collecting games and now collect controllers

Way too many
Saffuns! Saffuns everywhere!
Owner want 460 bucks but its too pricey
Can anyone give me an opinion what will be a good deal for this bvm?
Only 9 inch
Try asking on #crt
$460 is a pretty good price for a 9” set with only composite inputs 🫠
@sharp pulsar im not an expert i dont know whats good with pvm bvm stuff
Not worth the cost imo.
If you have money to waste, go ahead and buy it
I personally would not enjoy playing games on a 9” screen
I’m assuming it’s an HR Trinitron tube so it probably has 450 TVL. But the inputs suck.
I like my 250 TVL 9” PVM.
Has all the inputs you could want.
27” consumer sets are my sweet spot
Ok so I say that as a PVM owner. They’re not worth it.
I think having the nicest analog fidelity possible is really cool and fun. But to me CRTs, when I grew up, weren’t high fidelity.
Sir, did you know your right TV is on its side?
YESSSSS!
Ok thank u for your feedback about the bvm
"9 inch"
U guys really hate raspberrys 🤣
NOT ME
Here I demonstrate how good is the lag in Raspberry Pi4 without any latency improvement, and also using Runahead.
Also I show you how to accurately measure input lag using Retroarch, and how to fully eliminate the same, that's is, Zero input lag.
Finally I show you a small comparison against MiSTer to show how well these Pi4 configurations wor...
Is this Video legit?
It’s as real as you want it to be!
For me any Trinitron is great. Consumer or professional.
No seriously
I own two of them!!
They’re using “run ahead” which is basically the emulator’s educated guess on what the user will press next. It’s not full proof and is actually really prone to a lot of visual inconsistencies. So it still has more input lag than the MiSTer but they’re using software tricks to appear like it’s reduced. Sometimes it works well but most of the time, in my experience, it’s very poor and I always turn it off.
IMO rgb-pi is comparable to mister
Latency is low enough that you can use CRT light guns 🤷♂️
I got a pi and the rgb dual from recalbox and i can say its easy plug and play but u cant use runahead .even u use one frame u get sound issues. Sonic the hedgehog sounds not good
the team has a new Linux distribution that doesn't use run ahead and in their demo looks very fast #software-emulation message
They’ve been teasing replayOS in the rgb-pi discord for a while and it sounds bonkers
The colors are all borked and they're only showing nes
But the menu looks much better than retroarch
I need to get to this server
Website has a link to it
L8rz misters
What’s replayOS
It’s not very active
The OS in the video you just said was cool
I think it’s only compatible with pi5 but I’m not sure
@cinder crane rgb pi scart cable. They use replayOS
Recalbox say there is a rgb dual for the pi5 in development
Rgb dual has vga too
IMO the rgb-pi is a great complement to the mister. I’d prefer using the mister for titles that both can run, but rgb-pi can play more games
Espgaluda, Mushihimesama…
Oh I thought it was Retroarch lol
@sharp pulsar its not compatible.they work on a new cable for the pi5 too
I am too lazy for CRT
Critical Ray theory
Espgaluda on the rgb-pi is subtly different from the jamma game in a way I can’t quite put my finger on
Is it lag
But I set my PB on the pi so I don’t think it’s a latency issue
I have played Espgaluda a LOT and would notice if it was lag
So i went to the rgb-pi discord and I saw akirapalm there, immediately deploying birdysnake's monkey bonk gif
That’s pretty cool
I like that every time I try to troll @sharp pulsar he one ups me lmao
I honestly love your setup, the trolling is to mask my appreciation of it
Really in what channel?
Damn, exposed
Only because he seemed interested in context
Don't forget to retest lag after every time there is a new firmware update for your tv
It connects to a new M micro usb that was added to the lite, instead of the 4 pin thing the normal mister would use.
Oh so the “USB bridge” pin header connector on the original Ironclad Lite PCB was replaced by a micro usb connector?
Clever!
Yup pretty cool
Awesome! Will get a barebones MiSTer Pi and RAM soon for my new setup
I will just make a custom cable from a USB A cable with pin headers at the end

Yeah that should work fine!
I mainly want to know what if any lag my hdmi 2.1 switch adds
CED was not laser based, it used a stylus like a record
Vsync adjust 2 got me these
First in 4:3, second in 16:9
Think we have a winner
Same 2 running through the HDMI splitter
So I would say no impact from the hdmi switch
Nah, switch shouldn’t add anything
When you’ve gotten yourself into a settings bind and you don’t want to get up but have a laptop on you
what listing did you buy from?
@rich skiff not sure if you found one yet, but see SK360's link above
man if it wasnt for the fact that RPi's are idiotically expensive these days
id get one to try running as a midi box outside of MT32pi stuff
Ahh
stuff that a mt32pi cant really run well (or atleast supposedly)
last i saw pi3 wasnt enough for nuked sc55
and pi5 prices these days are kinda stupid when i can get turnkey mini pcs for cheap (last one was $120?.... 12 thread 32gb ram micro lol)
Refurb mini office PCs are pretty good value yup
because it has high single core perf and i didnt need much ram lol
I use one for recording
i think i3 8100 / 8gb ram
got it originally for opnsense but since moved my entire stack to unifi lol
ive been thinking about grabbing a behringer 802
they seem dirt cheap for what they are
I used to have a 1202fx. Perfectly cromulent
i really just want something i can do some mixing on with multiple inputs and 2 outputs
one for recording the other for monitor
I’m planning to grab a umc404hd later this year
Two mic inputs is too limiting for me
yea in terms of budget seems good and it has both usb and xlr
A 4-input interface would let me capture two drum mics, bass, and keyboard at the same time. Ideal for recording jams
im ears for any budget suggestions though
for a mixer that is
802 seems to be like
$50
or less
hello can i use the mt 32 lite on the mister pi too or does it hide other ports?
Not listed on the supported device list, but I'm not sure if that list is old. Any opinions?
Looks dicey
AC600 works
The Archer T2UB Nano receives Wi-Fi signals on two separate bands.Supporting 256QAM technology increases 2.4GHz data rate from150Mbps to 200Mbps for 33% faster performance. 433Mbps on 5GHz is ideal for HD video streaming and lag-free online gaming, while 200Mbps on 2.4GHz is perfect for normal us...
I would take wifi6 over Bluetooth just for file transfers, if it would make that much of a difference
But yeah, I probably won't get it, I just I just need to check for Linux compatibility right?
Pretty sure WiFi 6 doesn’t work? Or was it 6e?
Wifi 6 itself is pretty old
But this adapter looks new
My understanding is that you want to check the mister kernel version, then check for Linux compatibility, but make sure compatibility was added by the kernel version that mister has
Alternatively, if it's Linux compatible but not supported with mister's kernel, you can install the drivers separately
Not be watching Godzilla Minus One Minus Color on that is a sin
I use alternate ini I didnt know i could put filters in it is there a category and thank you@sharp pulsar you too. thats the solution I thought of when i was laying awake last night well sort of. but I was going to duplicate the core itself and name it crt and the other led and then set the filters in the core. Load them individually like with the snes SS. ill try the ini file.I thought that the individual core settings overide the global. Ill give it a try thanks to you both.
The ac600 or whatever tp link adapter I am using is connected at wifi4
ohhh you think your old school....hold my fake beer
What, did you flash a WRT54G? lol
I felt bad that I hadn't used my nes snac yet. Also, I can't find any 3d files for operating the trigger to a micro switch, only thing I can find is an eBay seller who has upgrade kits available
Gosh dd-wrt was such a game changer on those
Pretty much a whole generation’s first Network Attached Storage experience ngl
I'm honestly shocked by how many people pay for cloud storage.
I don't love the idea of a single drive, but cloud storage is expensive these days. I think google charges $10/month for 2tb
I use to recommend unRAID but their new price structure is pretty high
I’m on a 10 year old synology right now
Been looking at building an unraid box to get off of it
I love it, I bought 2 18tb HDDs last black Friday, finally bought a UPS for it and it's been awesome for the price
Yeah I was going to load it with some of those cheap refurbished serverpartdeals 18tb’s
And migrate everything off this syno
Probably with an i5, I need something that can transcode in plex decently
Have a 2012 Mac Mini running Proxmox right now with a ton of containers running, Plex and all the *arr apps
It just can’t handle any more than 2 or 3 transcodes lol
I scored a dell micro with a i7-117700 for dirt cheap on Goodwill's auction site.
It's a pretty ugly setup, I use a m.2 to Sata adapter and I have a separate 5 bay with it's own power supply. I was shocked that even with 2 separate power supplies, it idles at scout 7watts.
I've got a dream machine as well! I love my ubiquity gear
@upbeat gyro looks like you're running pi-hole. My wife hates it lol, I'm too lazy to whitelist sites
Yeah Pihole on the pi zero 2 and I have a secondary one running on the Mac mini
Use Tailscale to keep connected to it off of WiFi
My wife loves it for blocking ads in games lol
I need to look into some of those. I'm pretty bad about defense, but I keep anything important on a separate vlan, not sure if that's enough for the most part
It’s mostly security theater. But pihole is nice for ad blocking.
Tailscale is just nice if you need remote access to things in your network, it’s like vpn easy mode with no ports to open
I fucking love it
And this is coming from years of WireGuard use
And you can run Tailscale on an AppleTV. My one AppleTV is used as a subnet router and exit node
You need the optional user port wich is on the io board. Normally you could also use a short usb3 cable extension cable for the connection if ports would be hide.
My resin printed N64 Mister Pi FPGA case designed by @lyric gull came in from JLCPCB today! Looks amazing! Unfortunately misplaced my micro case jewels I had printed, so ill have to reorder some.
Wow! So smooth! Can a home resin printer do that?
Not sure. Its just printed in their "Black Resin" SLA printers.
using USB controllers, is there anything special I have to do to get 2 player working? I've seen that there are 2P versions of some cores
Nah, should just work
got a big smile on my face just now when I plugged in my snes classic and NSO N64 controllers and they just worked
Those controllers are great for their cores
had to rebind them real quick but they work great
the '2p' cores have 2 consoles running at once, but follow normal player 1 / player 2 mapping
ie 2 gameboys at once that you can play multiplayer on 🙂
if you have a CRT and HDMI display connected, you can have one console per tv
(or both at once on HDMI)
for multiple controllers, the first one you press a button on after loading a core becomes P1, second P2 etc
you can reset it by opening OSD, pressing right and 'reset player assignment'
ooooh I see
I wondered why 2P needed a separate core and that makes a lot of sense lol
Woah that print came out great! That’s awesome! Please share when it’s assembled!
With the jewel I mean.
Looking great, just maybe need a little cleanup and a thin matte black and it’ll look exactly like the render lol
The N64 case looks awesome!
preset_default=General Hardware/Arcade for example
You can also set different ones for each core
I do that in my mister.ini and then I have mister_CRT.ini without it
Then you just pop into the CRT ini and remove the presets from all the individual cores you’ve added them to
Its got that original "gray black" color of the N64, i just haven't given it a coat of armorall yet to take away the "chalkyness" of the print yet until I install the case jewel.
you all are great thanks
hey when i run MiSTer_SAM_on.sh favorite It adds the game title that is playing to my favorites folder. But the metadata etc always links to the last neo geo game that was loaded in sam. And if i load it thats the gaem that loads. The neo geo one.
Can someone else verify if its working correctly on their side
I had to buy these JBL speakers when I saw them. They sound pretty decent and as an added bonus, the yellowing matches the monitor!
And shielded by the looks of it, nice find!
They didn't look like they were meant to be hung on the side of a crt so I was pleasantly surprised with how beefy the cables are
bump
Does the snac port support one controller only or can I get snac adapterd for two controllers?
If it’s not in the docs, it might be worth pinging @frosty tundra on this
ty
You can buy SNAC adapters that support multiple controllers. For example there’s a 2 and 4 player one available for the PS1/Saturn/N64 cores.
i was looking at the reflex adaptors for sure
SNAC multiplayer is limited by the spare GPIO lanes. So systems like Sega are single player only due to the amount of lines used by the controller
Systems like Nes, SNES, PS1, N64 share common lines so have more free for more players
Oh yeah? Can’t do 2P in the Saturn core through SNAC?
The world's first affordable FPGA gaming console. Inspired by the PS one. Supports PS1 games, memory cards, and controllers. Analog/Digital output. NFC/WiFi/BT. MiSTer FPGA compatible. Disc support not pictured.
Pricing starts at $149 for founders and friends. https://t.co/mjFMm4Gcc5
guess this is mister pi related
i like
Not something I’d ever buy since it’s redundant to mister but it’s designed nicely
gonna wait for flagship
im down for any way to get people into mister at this point lol
and i know a lot of people that dont like the "diy" look of the triple stack or its cases
for the price I'll have to grab one, but I'd love more details about the anolog out, would be cool if it just used the psx av connector
My pi setup is so jank compared to this
If it is a mister with one ram module and all the extras listed and the psz ports, in a nice case, it is a hell of a good price
Console wars of 1996 are BACK
(Analogue64 vs taki psx)
It's all just mister to me.
It’s very nice to have options. MiSTer being offered as the retro gaming solution in multiple ways will help expand its reach to more people who aren’t aware there’s a better software alternative to Analogue’s products.
I don't remember a psx vs n64 war
Yeah, that generation it was always clear who the market leader was and each console offered very distinct gaming libraries and experiences.
Most people had PS1 so it was the mass adoption product and it’s what you owned if you were into RPGs, adventure, fighting, and general action games.
The N64 was for Nintendo fans and kids, and is what you owned if you were into 3D platformers, first person shooters, arcade racing, and multiplayer games.
I probably don’t list all the genres each console excelled at. Like sports/wrestling on the N64 was a big deal too.
And survival horror was of course huge on PS1.
But it was cool as hell owning both. I personally never felt much overlap at all between the two. Each console had very distinct experiences and purposes.
I'm a bit confused about this. If it is based on the MisterFPGA project, then why does it only play one console? Is it using the same FPGA? I have so many questions.
it plays more than one console but its setup specifically for PS1
I feel like the existing fpga consoles are probably pretty similar. Technically they COULD do more, but they're targeted
It plays all the things mister plays, it’s just optimized for the ps1 experience via memory card and controller slots.
Oof, that's a branding nightmare, but I guess it kind of makes sense then.
Mister pi is a branding nightmare too 😂
I don't know, I mean.... if people are buying it to play PS1 games, then it'll do that... It just.... can do other stuff, too.
I feel like it's not dissimilar to the SNES classic and such, it's just that the way you load other games on isn't a hack, it's just a configuration. 😛
Valid
But that's exactly why it's tricky to brand. You're underselling the capability of the device.
When korg relaunched analog synths in the early 2010s, they labelled a bunch of solder points on the PCBs for curious owners to add extra functionality
Kinda reminds me of that
Umm...
The Analogue 3D is a $250 FPGA that's targeting N64
This is exactly the same niche, but cheaper
One of them had full midi capability but without any ports, solder a couple wires and suddenly you had midi in/out
It's intended to only play N64 though.
I'm just saying, there will be people buying that one intending to load it up with extra cores just like people do with the Analogue Pocket. The capability is there. But that's not what they're marketing it as, same as this PS1 emulator
I think it's just a MiSTer Pi, with a special daughter board with all of the components in a PSone style shell (there's 4 usb ports on it for other controllers or storage). You just lose the ability to modify the hardware. It probably just autoboots into the PSX core with the included sd card (you can already do this with the .ini file), but you should be able to put whatever you want on it without special jailbreaking
Software is going to be an interesting question for this... I don't know that he would have had time to develop very much.
Also.... I mean, there are a lot of ways this could have gone.... I would think it would be more cost effective to skip a lot of the stuff on the MiSTer Pi you don't need....
Because it wasn't a war. It was a massacre.
Like, rather than having GPIO pins, you just... wire in directly to what you need... Which electrically would look pretty similar to keep the software compatibility...
Did n64 win? 🏆
It won second place.
the poor saturn :/. I’m playing through dragoon saga again, and while I think it’s a truly great game, it’s hard not to look at the graphics and go “awww. you’re trying your best”
Saturn won second place in Japan at least
This is like what failed rockers in the US do. Just go to Japan, they'll love you there like we don't!
Our first place "rockers" are certainly of a particular taste
