The CL is different on the QMtech boards too
The flash chip just might have been added because the DE10 has one ?
Probably. The question is: why?
Nothing in the MiSTer ecosystem seems to use it
I'm just curious because it seems to have content
If the QMTech board is equivalent to the original MiSTer DE-10 Nano stack, I recommend also pulling down RetroFrog's original design. Both should have matching coordinates and cutting the two step files apart and stitching the parts back together so to speak will probably be the easiest approach to making a QMTech case. Primary changes would be the USB-c in on the back of the case, the 3 USB A ports from the USB Hub on the bottom back of the board. Some of the changes, while unnecessary, should be ok to keep, like the extra support added for the power switch. If I didn't make any mistakes while modifying things, that should be 100% backwards compatible with the original switch holder without any modifications needed
that's exactly what I'm doing :). I am going to print frog's bottom half with your top half. I needed to adjust the power button and, I think, will need to adjust the height of the snac port (since the qmtech is shorter than the triple stack)
Dont think so
Alternatively, if the whole QMTech stack is overall shorter, you may want to instead raise the 4 posts on the bottom to lift it higher. Otherwise, the 3 top buttons may not be tall enough to protrude from the case.
(and additionally, raise the 3 back USB A ports on the hub)
(well, or make the buttons taller, that would also probably work. The former charges are a better pick in my book since it minimizes the number of parts differences)
is the best way to figure out how tall it needs to be just use a ruler? or is there a better way? (This is the first thing I have ever done in fusion/bambu's slicer
The QMtech board fits fine in Todd's slim case. I printed one to use before QMtech released their USB/IO board
The only thing that didn't work was the SD card extension due to location change of the slot on the board
No analogue video output available on the slim case though
Someone explained the use for the chip in the comments on Ken's video and it seems it is there just because the DE10 has it, it has no use for MiSTer
This also explains why QMtech removed it
Mystery solved
Yeah, I think for this one there needs to be an adjustment though because the height of the snac port hole is expecting a triple stack. I’m not worried about the sd card, but I suppose I could move that hole around too
Ah boring
Thought maybe it was prep for some secret feature in one of the 7 other products he mentioned
Best tool for the job is usually a digital caliper. You can get one that goes to 150mm for around ~$20
Looks like I should have my qmtech setup on Monday. Shouldn’t take long to update a case for it
Haven’t decided if I’m going to offer the same color options as the Taki case or do something different
my card is ready
any idea when the tapto stuff will be ready?
Probably around the same time.
I have a small number of nfc boards on hand and need to order a bunch more
I have parts currently to make maybe 5 or 6 or so
And I haven’t decided on color options for the Tapto cases
It would be easier on me to offer just one color, but I know folks like options
I need help gauging interest and case color options.
Price will be $28 for a complete, ready to use TapTo add-on.
If this is something you are interested in, please hit the like button to help me gauge interest.
Leave a comment about color options and RT to spread the word
I caved and got an x1c
lol
Closest is 90 mins. I ended up paying the $25 shipping but was able to pay with PayPal which is a Chase freedom 5x bonus category right now
So it was a wash and I didn’t have to drive
Shipped from NJ was here in 2 days
I almost did the same thing because of the PayPal bonus, but there is zero chance I don’t max the 5% back before January
And if I come to my senses in the next 15 days, I can return it
Yeah I just bought a ps5 pro from Best Buy via PayPal
Think that maxes it
$75 I think. Or whatever that is in ultimate rewards points. 7500? I don’t even pay attention just dump them all to my sapphire reserve
God bless Jose
You need to spend 1500 to get the full 75 back
Easy. Just get a couple retrotinks.
Taki batch 2 wen
He just posted an update but I don’t think it had any info
There is more delay now, cause they do the QA now themself inhouse.
They do now also a match with the SDram in the new QA Process. This will slow down also the process, caue i guess most people bought the bundles with ram.
PS5 pro and $670 from bambu
We good lol
Yup, checks out
Well I have a boat
Here we go again ...
Just incase it gets deleted like the last one
Taki udon might even own Sony or Microsoft, I don’t care, as long as batch 2 is released
Batch 2 wen
Ha ha yeah idk why it would matter. He also addressed this and said they're not the same company ownership.
It's just comical.
What is the problem with Retroid?
That's the thing. Even if it was true, what is the problem.
Sure
Yeah I don’t really get the weird investigation into retro remake connections and why it’s relevant
We’re all just trying to play some games…
Yeah it's all very odd
Conspirasy theorist manufacturing a new conspiracy? If nobody is saying what they "know" to be "true" then it must be because it hides a dark, shameful secret. Therefore it must be exposed.
Yeah, but it’s kind of a limp conspiracy as far as those things go
Much better finish with that orientation
I dunno if people are tired of this case yet, but I printed the top at an angle yesterday, with mostly great results but some caveats. It results in much better resolution on the curved surfaces while not having the front or back have the build plate texture. But with the angle I printed, it's all top layers facing you when you look down on it, so the light that's reflected is different. You could print it angled with the front on the bed, but that might leave the bed texture visible at the seam on the front.
This did allow me to do a trick, after the light pipes printed I pulled the clear filament out of the AMS and swapped in glossy black for the jewel. So it's a five filament print technically. The white support interface worked perfectly, it just fell off the print.
nice
I havent gone for a AMS yet as originally i had nowhere to leave the P1P setup all the time. It lived ina cupboard, i do have the space now though
Haha, cupboard as an enclosure.
No just for storage. My P1P is still open frame, i never bothered enclosing it as all i use is PLA for my projects
I highly recommend it. It's just soooo nice even for single colour prints. Just load up your favourites and start a print from your desk.
I do like printing in translucent filament. Gives some nice results
I do want to try this sometime. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qb25Gi4Jv0
Using a special parameter, you can't only print transparent FDM 3D prints - this parameter will also make your parts super strong!

Translucent PLA+ is very reasonable about £13 a spool on Amazon. I just print as generic high speed
I only have a roll of translucent PLA, no +. It's okay, but I'll definitely get PLA+ when I replace it.
Makes me wonder what it would look like if you did it in something like ABS and smoothed it (i.e., acetone vapor treatment I think it is? Never messed with it myself)
Thought about that. After smoothing, you could hit it with a scourer to bring back a matte finish.
Another advantage of the angled print is that it won't need the changes I added to make it more printable, the top layer can be contoured on the inside too. This would make for a much nicer translucent print since there won't be infill.
Cura's got that "fuzzy skin" option, wonder how that would work with the angled print orientation? heh
That's a good option. Might be worth exploring. I haven't tried any fuzzy skin prints yet though.
Same, it looks kinda finicky. You can go too far with the setting and it gets really wacky
It might hide the print orientation better.
I don't know if it was a style where you're from, but for a while textured wall paints were a thing here. Reminds me of that haha.
Yep, we had a bit of that
I'm watching the video that screenshot is from now.
I’m printing that case as soon as I’m done printing mods and tools for my printer
lol
It’ll be a while
Haha, printing printer parts is a right of passage.
My wife asked what I was printing last night….
A scraper so I can scrape the alignment lines off lol
I even printed and reprinted parts for my old printer when I got the P1S.
It's a slippery slope. You get your first one, you install some mods. You get your second one, which prompts you to rebuild your first one since it can be completely down without losing your ability to print. Next thing you know, you're designing elaborate direct drive extruder assemblies and installing accelerometers on things to do resonance cancellation, or bragging to your buds in Discord how your mesh bed leveling solution samples thousands of points of data within 30 seconds.
That video has convinced me to experiment with fuzzy skin now.
I mean thats what I really like about the Bambu.. 'what upgrades did i print for it? none.'
I give it the .stl and walk away and assume that everything is fine 😄
Yeah, so far I haven't messed around with the parts on my P1S. And I like that. I just want it to work.
What orienation did you use to get the different 'grain' ? Ive been having that wort of wood/warped look on some prints
The only bits I change out now and again are are the nozel for details, and the Textured PEi or 'smooth PEI' plate depending on my needs
Oh, that was just flat. Curved surface up top.
Oh? intresting
I was just curious what caused the diference between tehse two prints
You have that 'wood texture' on the left, like the grain, and a mostly nice smooth finish on the right
Waiting will give me time for yall to hash out a good print profile for this lol
The one on the left is printed flat, the one on the right is printed at a 45 degree angle.
The curved surface on the top resulted in the low resolution layer lines.
Ah so a 45 degree angle got your a smoother result, thats intresting!
Yup, the first photo in those photos.
Ill have to try that next time 😄
Thats a lot of fillament
I personally dont bothe rmuch with the Bambu branded stuff (theres nothing wrong with it, its just a lil expensive for what it is)
eSun+, SunLu etc.. much cheaper and works just great
It was $15.99 per roll on the reusable spool with the sale going on
Couldn’t pass it up
So these peices are supports that were printed to facilitate it printing at a 45? Thats wild! Did you have to draw those or were they autogenerated by the slicer?
And that solid tower in the background, thats the "purge block" from it switching filiments?
oh i was about to say good job being ready for the winter months.....
I then need to print a tool box to hold everything that was in my accessory box
I see how people end up with multiples
Don't print that one.
Uhhhhhhhh oops?
it's a huge waste of filament with a rather flimsy clip lock. https://makerworld.com/en/models/90586#profileId-96991 This one uses much less filament and is much more secure
NOTE:Please read the instruction guide belowI do my best to double-check and test the print profile I create. They are up to date with whatever changes I made to the designs. If you are using profiles made by others, please check if they are updated.UPDATE: 24 Dec 2023Would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It has bee...
Interesting. I don’t have the bom stuff on hand, I might just let this go lol
Also, this greatly improves the camera view.. https://makerworld.com/en/models/475720#profileId-386539
(A1 MINI VERSION IN MY OTHER MODELS)During this upgrade, some parts of your printer may be damaged, I am not responsible for any damage caused by incorrect installation or other damage. If your cables appears too short for this mod you should not install it.Another version of camera relocator, this time you can adjust the angle of the camera! IN...
I at least got the remixed version of the bambu mount that uses less filament and is supposedly stronger
Mostly just the support on the right, that would have stabilised the print while it was leaning. The supports on the left just made sure the bottom edges of the inside around the screw holes were supported. I think you could print without those if you're willing to accept some droops that wouldn't be visible anyway. But I just let the slicer do its thing. Amazing right?
And yeah the tower at the back is the purge tower.
Tip for 3D printing, be ready to "oops" and throw away parts. Even parts that printed fine. Just like everything else in life, if something is no longer useful and you have something better, get rid of it. Recycle if possible. Unless it's old video games of course. In that case hoard like your life depends on it.
If you keep everything you print, you'll end up with a lot of noise.
Enjoying the printer?
So far so good
Fun clicking buttons and having parts appear
Just amazing. I have to figure out how to change the colors as I don't have the same filament
On the prepare tab, under process, select objects and you can right click to set the filaments.
Or you can right click each part on the bed and set the filament.
Tbh for a multimaterial system I do find the filament setting unintuitive, but it's entirely possible I'm just not used to this slicer or missing something.
Interesting, that orientation is about an hour faster than the other one.
So if i needed to change just the light pipe and front logo color I can select just those and change them?
Yup.
Body black, cart slot grey, light pipes clear or not printed, jewel whatever you want.
ah I think I have to update those filament colors, the RFID doesn't work in this case since only way I can use the printer is SD Card
Ah okay. Yup, just update filaments 1-4 to match what you have in your AMS.
ah I got it I think, had to double click on the part to get this menu
Be sure to change the jewel. I had it set to transparent since I was using 3 colours plus support filament.
(I'm greener at this than the green bambu filiment that came with the printer)
You can also use the printer in local LAN mode over wireless if you don't want to use the cloud service.
Sadly blocked here
Ah okay, just line up the numbers then I guess.
I’ll will say, in terms of waste, finding out about the poop chute or whatever was a surprise. I moved the printer from its original spot and all this discarded filament was piled up behind it like a squirrel lived back there
Just posting here that I’m excited for the handheld.
Same here. Hope that Taki can throw some more teasers at us eventually.
I can't wait for the mister clone (batch 2 drop). So many games for me to play
Hopefully soon and it sounds like a lot.
You can also go to the object list and it will show you a list of what is assigned to what
And you can just change the filament number there
Just be wary, the AMS will create a LOT of waste if you are changing flimaments
Far more than you might be expecting 😄
yeah, that was a shock
immediately started looking into recycling filament
but that is...a process
Some decent videos on how to reduce it some like flushing to infill or flushing to another object but it’s still pretty bad lol
Got the ams lite top mount printed
Printing spool locks for the front spools now lol
One day I’ll print something that’s NOT for the printer 😂
Get a SunLu S4 and make an AMS non-lite. https://makerworld.com/en/models/625211
AMS Lite Feeder Unit Mounting Plate for Sunlu S4 Filament Dryer This 3D model is designed to streamline your filament management system by mounting the AMS Lite Feeder Unit directly onto the Sunlu S4 Filament Dryer. I considered it but decided it was overkill
And it’s more desk space
I have a Sunlu S2 and a sealed tub coming from Walmart for long term storage
It’s pretty solid up there
Drying some petg now to make a sunglasses clip for my car 🤪
Oh jesus, do I need to buy a dryer?
You don’t have to. You can just store the filament in sealed boxes with desiccant.
Just make sure the desiccant is dry. You can dry it in a microwave.
You can print desiccant holders for the AMS.
now we are thinking with portals
I like this one. https://makerworld.com/models/573406
SPILLPROOF AMS Desiccant Box - RECTANGULAR HygrometerThis series of Models are based on Cagriahiskali’s beautiful desiccant boxes, and the many other remixes for various hygrometers by others credited in the remix-based-on section below.Works with rectangular snap-in hygrometers like these:U.S. Bambu Lab Maker's Supply: https://us.store.bambulab...
and those just sit in the nooks and crannies of the ams
so just make the big boys?
I’ve heard of some spools coming out of the package with moisture problems
But hopefully few and far between
Yeah, some new spools can be wet.
Silica won’t pull that out but will stop it from getting more wet lol
And some of the engineering materials require a dryer I think
PETG is the one that gets real fucked up by moisture, yeah? It's not great for PLA and ABS, but they handle it better. I dunno where I read that but I thought I did
I'm not into advanced materials yet. I bought some ABS to print these spools but other than that it's been all PLA. I am trying to decide if I want to fuck with PLA-CF for my kid's mister case
how dare you send me to the documentation
Yeah one of the CF filaments would make a nice N64 case
My wife got her “you got a 3D printer what do I get” delivery today 🤪
The PS5 Pro coming home on Thursday is just a bonus 😂
This is how a successful marriage functions 🙂
what are you guys storing spare filament in?
I have a tub from Walmart coming today for opened filament

There’s some prints to make it into a fancy drybox
I’m going with just throw them in tho
ooo I like that
With some silica and a Bluetooth humidity sensor so I can monitor it from homeassistant
Dessicant can help, but once it's wet it won't do much to correct the situation. I'd go ahead and research drying it, especially if you sit on rolls for a long time. PLA/HTPLA print okay enough even drenched in moisture if you can keep the temps low, but other filaments can be shot within hours and forcefully drying them helps immensely.
At higher printing temps, the moisture in the filament causes popping and zits all over your surface, and there's stringing, etc.
Testing feeding petg right out of the dryer
can anyone else access that site to pull the document? I don't own a passport
Because.... I don't see Taki's signature there
They were using a Imgur link which had now gone but made a backup of the images after what happened last time
I posted this...
lol
"So ... your purpose in sharing this is... what? To shut down a product you hate? There are only a few logical reasons for this:

You're selling a competing product that is hurt by this distribution, to which what you're doing is counted as Product Disparagement, and is grounds for a lawsuit.
-
You are a sad individual that lives off of seeing people agree with your anger so it can make your poor income feel better.
Either way, you just posted copyrighted content from the e-services portal which breaks their agreement/contract, so ... nice job:
"The Unregistered User shall comply with all legislation and laws relating to data protection and copyright in connection with data and documentation provided by the e-Search Services."
There has been some very good replies on the thread
As I said before I find it comical.
Who actually cares. (In terms of the 'claims')
I care about Batch 2 dropping and getting one delivered before Christmas hopefully compared to the 'claims'
What is most interesting as someone in the thread states is it's all about Taki even though QMtech produce boards too
Yeah, it's gotta be some sort of weird grudge against Taki. Maybe they denied them a refund or something
Can I suggest a 3d printing channel is requested to the admins? It is clearly a topic with enough people willing to discuss it here to deserve it
Someone here is called out as being one of the perpetrators in that thread 👀
Yeah, I saw that. They accused Atrac of being the writer in that thread from a couple of weeks ago. There is a lot of drama there that predates any of my interactions with those folks - but, from my purely anecdotal experience, they have been nothing but pleasant to me. I would be surprised if they were behind this. People are tying their brains in knots - trying to envision a Lex Luther-level scheme - in order to justify blaming them for shit
Mister cases channel. Some of us 3d print, laser cut, CNC, etc, maybe a catch all for anything related to encasing the Mister?
That's a good idea.
Yeah
i know for a fact it's not atrac or anyone from Coin Op or MARS
Absolutely it is not. And I'm sorry you even have to specify. Like I said, people tie their shit in knots to blame y'all for the weirdest shit
we get blamed for all sorts of bullshit
you absolutely should try to sink taki. that way you don't have to sell mister pi cases anymore!
I just want to know the endgame
Let's say that they somehow entangle retroid and taki and it causes people to not buy from taki. How many people are we talking? 20? 30? What is the endgame?
At this moment in time. The only Reddit post I want to see is "batch 2 dropping xx/xx/xxxx"
Or Toobin arcade core available
Or a Gamecom core
That would be interesting to see
Penny, we are focusing all of our energy into conjuring a jaguar core. I know you don't have a mister yet, but I need you to get on board early with this
We need to align our chakras in the direction of Aliens versus Predator
I blame Todd, for the lack of Jaguar core.
oh that's fair
I think, if Todd offered to 3d print a jaguar toilet looking case for the mister.
We might be onto something.
I can't even tell you how many times I've played my Jaguar.
I booted mine to make sure it worked
Maybe once to test it?
exactly
Then it just went onto the shelf
well, in all fairness when asked about Retroid, Taki straight up said they didn't own Retro Remake.
#1287682359658807317 message
so if that turns out to be false, it's a bad look
Yeah, it seems like it may be someone trying to make it look like they did. @golden coyote went full batman mode on it https://www.reddit.com/r/fpgagaming/comments/1gj7v31/comment/lvkkoj5/
It's more a curiosity core, right? Like the CDi or a (hopefully one day) 3DO core. So few people owned them, so getting to play the games (even when they are bad) satiates the curiosity we had when saw them in magazines as kids
That's why I got so into Neo Geo emulation in the early aughts. Being able to finally play those games that I coveted was so awesome
(not that the neo geo is at all comparable to the CDI, Jaguar, or 3DO)
It would be great in terms of preservation and to experience what I would class as 'niche' consoles. Similar to the 3do/CDI and Gamecom for example.
One device (especially at a great price point thanks to the clones) can achieve all this.
One of the cores I'm really excited to play is the Atari 2600 one. Not counting the PS1 and GameCube, but id class the Atari as one of my fav systems.
oh absolutely, outside of the selfish desire to play the games, being able to preserve the systems in permutable hardware (not sure that's the right word, but it's close) is super important
One thing id love to see is similar easy to use packs/collections for other computer cores. Like the Amigavision (which as someone who hasn't played any Amiga stuff, I'm hyped) and the 0mhz collection for dos.
I think there is a c64 one
The only 2 games I know that are great on the ZX Spectrum for example is Manic Miner and The Hobbit.
Oh really? That would be cool.
Yeah Id agree with that.
Amazing! Thank you very much.
post is old, but v5 is only 9mo old
Sweet, once I get a Mister Pi il load up the SD card with that c64 collection too.
It's not that I'm lazy to find games. I just appreciate curated lists if that makes sense.
"here are the top games" "here are the popular scene demos" etc etc.
which document is dated october?
brain fried... I confused the lookup date (system clock in the imgur image showing the e-services page) with the document date. Correcting my post
I meant to double check that before finishing the post but forgot 😂
-# I still hate @cinder crane for promoting the Raspberry Pi
Wow, Rapsberry Pi is so good, wow
oh no he's going to start scraping metadata again
I'm going to get a Raspberry Pi mug
and then put a MiSTer sticker on it
and call it Mister Pi

The eye of taki turns its gaze to the haters
Haters pls keep hating until we get free takis 🤣
Thanks for what you’re doing, Taki! ❤️
Now the most important:
Batch 2 wen
Gotta be soon
Taki said shipping before Christmas
Err I should say, shipping in time for Christmas
LOL holy shit. I want a batch 2!!
Who’s hating?
I briefly looked at this whilst half asleep, and thought it was batch 2 news hahaha.
Whilst it's a positive for us ($5 off). It's a shame it's came to this. Id happily buy the mega pack without the discount to support Taki more.
Haters
Sorry to wake you with it.
Haha you don't need to apologise, you didn't wake me up. I was waking up anyway for the gym. I just looked at my phone, saw a mister pi tweet and thought sweet. Batch 2
I'm happy to be tagged in stuff, helps me not miss anything
I deleted the post I made on that reddit thread with my researched information against these haters... I thought it best to maybe not show THAT deeply dug information publicly...
The OP's post was deleted by moderators anyway
They changed sub Reddit this time, the last post didn't last very long in the MiSTer sub
Sorry my mistake
He's made a mistake with the discount, Just because some people are jealous. His best option is to just ignore them and don't give them air they crave. In fact if everyone ignored them they would soon get bored and move on.
Damn it
Let’s pretend I have no idea what that means. Is it good?
What does the new BGA SDRAM revision mean???
Ram on board
@civic badge
BGA means solder balls under the chips. This makes the chips much smaller
Sweet!!!
That sounds promising for a handheld right?
Handheld will need a different design to support the display, but yes this ram is also sweet for a redesigned handheld PCB
Hmm
I've waited this long for batch 2. I wonder if it would be worth waiting more for that BGA SDRAM board
only the faithful buy one from every batch 🙏
They have to do it right, cause you can’t easily swap sdram chips then. But for a custom board this make much sense and will lower the costs for sure.
There’s no advantage and if it has issues there’s no recourse
Oh sweet, looks like batch 2 is back on the menu for me then.
The only reason why I’m not buying another MiSTer is then I’d have to setup a network share and I don’t want to ever be that big of a nerd.
A handheld is different!
A custom board for the handheld would be a better idea really then you could fit all the ports as needed, remove the likes of ethernet etc
Linux comes for us all, eventually
I saw your “I’m on GitHub more than I’d like to be” comment and that hit deep
Like I check it every day now wtf
It comes for us all
I thought we were doing that anyway for fastest speed? https://misteraddons.com/blogs/news/mister-data-io-speed-shootout (maybe this is out of date now?)
The DE10-nano is both an FPGA and an ARM computer, running Linux. Because of this, MiSTer benefits from all of the input/output flexibility of a modern computer. Note that the DE10-nano's USB PHY is USB 2.0 so there is no speed advantage using USB 3.0 devices.
This comparison has been months in the making, and I'm happy to finally publish my fin...
I’m far too lazy for that. I just use micro sd card lol
Does this mean the possibility of using an on board dual ram build with analog video out and reduced ram latency?
@lyric gull bottom done!
Waiting for translucent filament to try the top, should be here next week
No will work the same as a normal stack
The SDram will still interface via the GPIO lines
Seems like a cool case for the MiSTer Pi:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/1801103476/mister-pi-rsk224mr-taki-udon-mister-pi
That looks awesome! Came out nicely!
Well much thanks to @lyric gull , wicked job on the design! I'm going to fill the light pipe holes with clear glue or epoxy (got to excited to try the print before the clear filament arrived) and it looks great as-is!
Fresh off the printer, no cleanup yet, and it looks great to me
That turned out so great! I'm glad you like it!
that looks so good
Amazing!!!
If you want the top of the buttons smoother, you can print them at an angle too, same as the top half.
They stick to the bed with a brim.
Please tell me you’re going to 3D print a Pikachu to stick on the top.
thats not the gif I picked but the sentiment is the same
we take those
actually, it's potentially dirtier if your brain is broken like mine, but whatever. it's friday
I'm not at that stage yet, I just learned to print. Design is a whole other thing.
I am predicting Batch 2's drop. It will drop next week or the week after!
oh were you actually planning to do that?
That’s awesome if so
I just thought you randomly chose those two colors and I was like “omg pikachu n64”
No, I like it as it is I don't think there's that much real estate on the top, I printed it in these colors after seeing @lyric gull digital render of it in these colors
I mean if the filing existed of a little 3D printable Pikachu to glue on I would certainly give it a go
Hello, I'm interested in ordering the Turbo Pack once they're available but I'm unsure about one thing. I'd like to use dual RAM and it says that is possible on the store page by removing the AV v1.2. What is AV v1.2 for and what do I lose by not using it? I'd like to be able to use the MiSTer on my CRT as well as via HDMI. Cheers.
I'll wade into waters I'm 100% sure about the part that you would need to remove is this:
that would allow RAM on both sides of the board
What I am unsure about is whether or not VGA would work without that piece
Right, I was thinking it would likely be that part
I was under the impression that the only way to do Dual Ram + VGA is to use an IO Direct Board like Mister Addon's Sells (https://misteraddons.com/products/mister-fpga-io-direct?_pos=18&_sid=3fc0c0061&_ss=r&variant=40784624550021) and then use the Saturn to VGA cable https://misteraddons.com/products/mister-mini-din-10-premium-hd15-vga-video-cable?_pos=4&_sid=526a5b6e0&_ss=r

Premium way to connect your MiSTer (IO Analog Pro or IO Direct) to a PC CRT that supports composite sync. Note: not all monitor support composite sync. Please consult your monitor manual prior to purchase. Look for "composite sync" under the compatible sync formats. All audio and video lines are double shielded and th
but I could be (and probably am) wrong about that. So hopefully someone smarter than me can help
Now, if you buy the turbo pack, you can remove that piece, drop in a second stick of ram, and go about your business. the AV board will still function as a power button and all that stuff. You just wont get VGA out, just HDMI (again, subject to those smarter than me correcting me)
what is a turbo pack?
It's the most expensive Mister Pi bundle
ohhh ok
sorry I don't follow the Mister Pi stuff, I'm just here for the handheld lol
It may be better for me to buy in parts instead then if I would use the IO Direct board that you linked instead of the A/V Pro
Board + USB Hub + AV Board + Case + Snac Adapter
yeah, if you want dual ram + VGA, then I would do the mister pi base board, the USB hub, and 2 sticks of ram. Then buy the mister addons io direct board
I think @prisma fjord has a video about it this week
err next week
Alright, thanks very much for the information @faint dune much appreciated
If you remove the av board it acts as a digital board, so you need adapter for the vga port, but I assume that so you could use both at the same time. The other board mentioned use the hdmi port as input, iirc.
@zenith palm ^^
Don't forget about the upcoming Reflex Prism, which might be a good option for MiSTer Pi and QMTech users

I saw a video, but this seems also use hdmi out from de10 as a input ?
Yeah. It's a hdmi input DAC.
And then you can have a variety of analog output options
Next
I’d recommend this honestly if you already have a full Pi stack
IMO it’s a pretty flawless execution of a DAC. Direct video mode in for MiSTer is 100% and combine that with the other use cases of pass through DAC support…chefs kiss
And if you have a scaler that can decimate signals down like Tink 4K then you can really do some wild things. Take 4K/1080p in, downscale in Tink then sent to an analog tv
Yeah that sounds like a ton of fun
Granted that’s a very specific audience but Porkchop nailed Prism and I know there are other features that may end up in the production run. This is a prototype test board
But outside of hand soldered flux residue you’d just think it was production run
And it has a case to go with it. It won’t just be a raw dogged PCB like you saw on camera today
It is analog audio only, right?
Yes it’s intended to take in direct video mode signals and send them out via the analog Saturn port at 240p/480i
I edited my comment because I wrote it before reading your previous one 😅
Looking forward to using that as a DAC for PC HDMI to VGA PC CRT as well. So many cheap HDMI to VGA DACs make the picture too dark.
So what does this DAC have to do with Mister FPGA? The Mister already outputs analog signals... This seems like something that I would use without the Mister, like if I have a CRT and something that only outputs HDMI signals.
I believe the discussion was about running a Duel Ram setup.
Which would require that A/V bridge thingy being disconnected. So you would have to use Direct Video (hdmi)
Oh, I see the context now, my bad.
But, the Mister doesn’t output digital signals as you said. You need either to add an IO board or an external DAC that works with Direct Video
Did you print the top vertically?
Yes, I tried the 45° print but it popped off and "spaghetti'd"
The back has a bit of the bed texture on it but since it's the back I didn't really care
I think I’m going to order the carbon colored matte pla from Bambu for it
Or even the PLA-CF would look great I think. But $32/spool
Sorry, I don't get it with the dual-ram and AV board. It's clear that you cannot use them at the same time because they use the same pins. But is really the VGA-out of the IO board (the big one with the buttons and LEDs) disabled as soon as you add dual-ram?
The VGA port is connected to the AV board via this pin header right behind the VGA port, so without the AV board, the VGA port has no function.
Has any MiSTer Pi user tried loading roms with MiSTer Batch Control? I'm getting No RBF Found errors every time I try to load an arcade game using mbc, but this didn't happen using a de10.
I opened an issue on github (https://github.com/pocomane/MiSTer_Batch_Control/issues/36), but I figured asking here to confirm if I wasn't the only one wouldn't hurt.
If you want to try, do
wget https://github.com/pocomane/MiSTer_Batch_Control/releases/latest/download/mbc
./mbc load_rom ARCADE /media/fat/_Arcade/Asteroids.mra
Got it now, comparing the schematics of AV Board v6.1 and v9.2. Apparently, v6.1 took the signal from P1, while v9.2 just takes it from this AV port with no further connection to P1. It looks like theoretically a bridge from P1 to this AV pin header could be possible, but I see from the v6.1 schematics that then a lot of additional resistors etc. are needed to create a valid RGB signal.
I extended my fan board with a user port and wanted to continue adding the buttons and leds. Adding the SMD microcontroller is the only critical part, but it might be easier than expected because there are prepared solder points on the board. But then, adding the VGA port could be pointless as long as the AV-board is not available separatedly. So I would have to go the HDMI-to-VGA adapter route in case I decided buy a crt and use analog out.
Weird issue as scripts done by Wizzo like favourites and tapto work on the clones fine.
Anything in here needs to be pinned? If so let me know!
I have found a workaround for this issue! If I run mbc from /root, Arcade games launch successfully. I'm not sure what explains this behavior, though. Running from any other location fails. I've updated my related GitHub issue: https://github.com/pocomane/MiSTer_Batc ... /issues/36
Batch 1 case codes just went out
@delicate hazel
Oh sweet thank you
Seems like there will be a 24 hour launch notification too. Which is great. (I won't have to 1am release both days)
Oh I hope. I only just found out there's an LTT video on the Mister Pi too.
its good
I dunno why folks are worried
it sounds like the batch is 4x what batch one was
(because I believe that it's 2 months worth of stock, rather than 1)
and batch 2 was 2x what batch 1 was
I just see it as more competition when trying to order one.
I am wrong, it’s 2000 units (I can read good)
Batch 2 w.... oh wait! 😱
Soon™
I can’t wait for the Batch plebes to get out of the way so us Mister Pi Handheld royalty can order.
I just hope they’ve spent all their money so I’m not competing with them for a handheld
Yeah true LOL
Real Champions buy every batch
Sweet, I printed a few of @lyric gull's N64 cases in various states of experimentation as I was learning 3d printing so maybe I need another to plop the cases on (I don't)
Once you get that second mister, three and four are much easier to justify
Alright still a bit to go lol
$7 is the 5% earned. So that’s a little over $100, im bad at math
Oh i see
That was from my ps5 pro and 3d printer 🤪
mister pi batch 2 BAYBEEE
What else can we list that you should buy
I'm only at 30 bucks for my two chase freedoms. I need to step it up
I ended up transferring the points to my Sapphire Reserve and redeeming for 1.25x
I wish I traveled enough to justify a fancier card. I go to Italy once a year…and that’s it
I like my house too much
We dont travel as much now that we have a 2 year old… but still a couple times a year. Having the reserve is a comfort thing at this point 😂.
I hammer the hyatt transfer
But now I got the Hyatt card so I have a bunch of points straight from Hyatt, I may downgrade the reserve
Yeah, we used to travel more when we were kidless or only had one kid. Two kids that are “have to buy you a seat” age makes upgrading rough. And my large type Pokemon ass can’t tolerate steerage.
Ugh yeah. We went to Houston last year to visit friends and lap child her when she was 9mo. Flight down she was perfect, way home was the exact opposite
When we went to Orlando in April we bought her a seat and my wife ended up holding her the whole time anyway
We flew to Myrtle beach in July 2 weeks before her 2nd birthday and we lap childed her. Figured it was a 50 minute flight and I might as well get one last one in
We were going to go to WDW this year (before the mouse chose full on violence towards families) but the flight cost alone was…excessive
I ended up booking 6 nights at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando for like 97k points. Absolutely fantastic place
I know next time we go back to WDW I wont be allowed to stay off property
Yeah, that’s the way to do it. But man, all these changes they have made to absolutely rake people over the coals really has soured me.
Not that WDW has ever been customer friendly. But they have moved to active hostility
Yeah we were there like 2 weeks before they changed everything. I mean we only went to 2 parks, MK and Epcot and we bought Genie+ both days
Was pretty nice we just jumped lightning lane to lightning lane at MK whatever was avail next and she could ride with us
But I hear it’s all fucked now
I ended up buying individual lightning lane to ride guardians at Epcot
yeah, when we went we couldn't get LL shit for anything. I woke up at like 7am to grab stuff when it opened and guardians + rise of the resistance were both gone at like 7:00:10am.
But when you go with young kids, you end up doing like 5 rides total anyway so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah luckily enough a friend met us at Epcot and took our kid for a half hour so we could ride guardians. Otherwise we rode Nemo… frozen…. And the German Biergarten
My daughter loved the people mover at MK 🤷♂️😂
god, if I never have to ride nemo again it will be too soon
The aquarium is decent at the end at least
yeah, it's fine. it doesn't help that that ride is super easy to just walk onto
Meanwhile, my precious Haunted Mansion is a nightmare to ride more than once
Does anyone want my batch 1 case coupon code? I have my retrofrog case, and don't need another (printing a case for my kid's mister pi build)
I'd be interested, I never made an account on retroremake or signed up for the marketing emails, so I haven't received a code. I emailed taki about it, but the turnaround on those communications can be days, or longer now with batch 2 coming and case orders starting.
DMed. If taki sends you a code, you can pay it forward 🙂
The code may be personalized, when my autofill changed my email address to a different one (not the one used to order), the code became invalid until changed back
Oh weird. wonder if that was just a shopify bug. JollyBeardo was able to redeem it for their order
Pretty sure Taki said the code was personalized and one use only
I was able to use it, it does not seem to be bound to any specific account or email, but they do have an expiry time from what I gathered
It's just a shopify code I believe
should work on any transaction once
Unless JollyBeardo stole my email. In which case, enjoy all the.....newsletters....I've signed up for
We often get asked to sell the Multisystem console motherboard again. Now that @TakiUdon_ R2 has the Mister Pi available, would you like us to produce another batch of our Multisystem consoles?
Quick poll to gauge interest & options, thank you.
https://t.co/5mFzJTQ1Jm
If there is enough demand, Heber would probably produce another batch for mister pi users
I'm not interested enough to log into X to vote in this poll and select "not interested"
I would be happy to log in if I had an account...
Ugh the design always looked a mess and the add ons designed for it are silly money really for what they are
Heber also have been marketing their new PI4 CM module based console recently ....
The advantage is clear the format of the board compared to the normal standard stack. Power switch and Scart are also included. I love this board. But yes, the price is perhaps a bit under pressure now, as there 20$ ram modules out now. At the first release time the boards for a normal stack was about 120, so that the price for the mms was competitive. That has changed now.
ethernet and HDMI on back, 4(5) USB on front is nice, even if my rev 1 case is pretty rough
and built in dip switch to disconnect the CEC pin on HDMI port
V1 case has the bigger fan wich is much easier to swap for a silent one. I like the top printed in one piece. The covers printed in two pieces are allways looking as they where printed in different colors.
But I like the design for the buttons holder from the newer ones.
true, i heard the smaller fans were annoying folks.
The whole case doesn't quite fit together square on mine, but its still in one piece after ~3 years so cant complain
the little notch makes sliding microsd in/out a lot easier than the porkchop case
people that bought that mister pi big pack in the past in EU and UK, how much shipping+VAT+import taxes did you pay? I'm going to UK on January for some weeks to help my brother after knee surgery, maybe it will be more convenient for me to order while I'm there
There is no real advantage over the stock stack in terms of functionality and even the HDMI featured are wasted if Taki has fixed the HDMI on his board.
That scart socket has always been annoying pointless too
The other issue is if you buy a Taki stack the analogue video is a downgrade on the MMS being 6.1 based 18bit and didn't score well in DAC testing
There is also no dual SDram support
If Richard did a new revision it might be better
Also the ram is V2.5 based iirc. But that is not the point. You got all the ports on only 2 sides, without any tinkering. There is also the option for an itx mount with small 3d printed brackets. The price difference was small at launch compared to the single items, That have changed now. Compared to the ironclad boards you get the ram and the expansion socket. I think 🤔 if Heber does a good pricepoint they could sell another 500… If not, then the next Taki all in one PCB will make the race in 2025.
The ITX mount is pointless as the board design doesn't follow the ITX spec with the ports being all over the place
The big elephant in the room will be the pricing too it will end costing more than the complete Taki stack going by previous pricing
The Ironclad pricing has the same issue but is a better designed board that follows ITX spec and had some decent QOL features
Better DAC
MD2 output
Switchable MT32-pi etc
Of course the better solutions will be Takis custom console designs which will also keep the price low
MMS is console style and ironclad is real itx design. But both have to fight now, cause of the 60$ stack with 128MB ram. So both need to cut the costs down. Personally I think 99$ would be fair as they not produce in china.
Jammix is a proper ITX design too
Heber produce in house in the UK and are an established electronics company, so it will never be as cheap as Chinese production
UltimateMiSTer did a run of MMS too
They all have to compete with Taki and QMtech now on price
QMtechs IO/USB board with case is only £25
True, but ultimate mister is more expensive than Heber was. I don’t think that many people are willing to spend more as double for the same function, only for the format. But let’s see and wait what Heber will be do. Sounds more like a last product run from them to get rid of the stock (parts and PCB).
Heber has open sourced it and could do a cheaper run now, cause they got there investment back already.
I am surprised we haven't seen more QMtech designed cyclone boards on the market yet from other producers seeing the designs are open source and on GitHub
Think it depends on the quote for the parts. You need quantities to get good prices. That’s a lot of money too.
The BOM on these boards is not much even for the DE10
Looks like automotive grade Cyclones availability is better too. You just need to find a good chip broker
Then it's just DDR, a couple of controllers and the rest is just noise
The problem was the price for the fpga chip. This chip alone was long time more expensive than the hole board
Only if you looked on Mouser or Digikey
Terasic would be paying around $20 a pop direct from Altera
This is why they could offer the DE10 for such a low price for years
Hmm, I don’t think so, terasic would have been granted a kind of refund in the past, but the prices for the single chips was real expensive. Otherwise we have seen many other boards using the same chip. Vampire or analogue has used much less powerful chips to save costs. Sorg has done a custom PCB instead the stack idea.
The DE10 Nano was not used at the prototype stage of MiSTer but Terasic released it at the right time
MiST which MiSTer was forked from used a custom PCB but a off the shelf solution was a better for MiSTer
The DE10 Nano was the same price as the current compatible boards for years and up to around 2021 so those chips would have been very cheap to Terasic
There is no way Taki or QMtech could produce these boards without a similar price on the cyclone V
The Cyclone V is decade old and product on a high yield cheap per wafer process.
Altera will still have a very good wafer contract with TSMC
The issue is while Terasic had to raise pricing over COVID when the silicon industry did have shortages there is no need for it now but they seem to like the higher price point and left a gap wide open in the market for these compatible boards
Though you could argue Terasic are more focused on the industrial FPGA board where price points don't matter and margins are high unlike a cheap dev board made for a college programme
If you look at the Analogue 3D N64 that is using a Cyclone 10 with more LEs(150k) than the Cyclone V but still only a $249 price point
Yes, there seems now some movement in the FPGAs pricing from intel or altera. But only now and not years before. Before only Terasic seems to be able to produce the De10 nano cheaper as other parities could buy the single fpga chips.
Well Intel spun off Altera a few months ago and there has even been rumours of a sell off. Intel are the big issue with the new Agilex range though as their fabs are useless. I can never see it being viable at the hobby level
Last days we had some discussion about intel on another Discord.I found an interesting article (german) that seems very interesting in some points. Seems that intel is leader in packaging. I copy the link.
So it seems not true that there fabs are useless. But they need money to fight with the speed of TSMC. Or they could try to do the same as Nvidia, a fabless business. But that is risky in my eyes
They will end up like AMD and sell off the foundries in my opinion. Its dragging down the rest of the company like it did with AMD a decade ago, the fabs are losing billions per quarter.
Its their silicon processes that are useless, which is why they have very very poor yields per wafer. Intel had years and years to invest in their foundry tech and didnt bother and now its biting back. They are having to outsource silicon production to TSMC as it is
On a more on topic subject, This is a great solution Ironclad Lite ITX that supports De10, QMtech and MiSTer PI
That a good news. I had the normal one some time ago. First or second batch. But I sold it, after the C64 atx case moved production to china. My plan was to put it in the c64 case…
Yeah I had the normal Ironclad decent product. In the end I swapped it out for a Retrocastle for the smaller form factor
hmm I never got this code, and RR hasn't replied to my email asking if it's been lost or what's going on. cc @faint dune and anyone else who can send info about the sender or content in the email in case I somehow missed it in my massive spam folder...
thank you
Sent you a DM about the code I got from my email to retroremake, I believe everyone got sent the exact same code anyways from their response to me.
yep, turns out JollyBeardo's code + my original order's login worked
Your code was probably "compromised" by SuperSega
Hmm, I would like to give my code away, as I am not willing to pay for the shipping. But if everyone gets the same code, how will they handle this?
@dusky pewter The code support sent you was the same one I gave you?
Other codes are also only valid for three days?
in my case, the code I used didn't work unless I was logged into my original order's email account
hmmm i didn't get a code
i guess i don't really care enough to cause trouble for anyone fixing it given i wouldn't be swapping out my frogcase anyway
the frog case is too good
@faint dune exactly the same yes
so it's probably just 1 use per account
rather than code
Did everyone's code start with a J and end with a Y?
yup, confirmed it's the same one
I don't want to post it here just in case but it looks like it's a code that only works if you have a batch 1 sale on your account (which means you have to have an account)
I do not specifically have an account (don't remember creating one, can't recover lost password even if I did), and I wasn't signed in at all but I did use the same contact email as my batch 1 purchase
ahh, maybe it matches by email then
Specifications: Input Maximum power: 100-240V 50/60Hz - Output: 5V 4A - Extended cable: 120cm - Connection size: Standard micro USB connector Technical specifications: with TÜV, RoHS, GS certification and CE certification For Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Package includes: 1 x 5 V 4 A EU Power Supply 1 ...
I bought this adapter and works nicely. If anyone looks for one in Europe
So is this shit happening on Monday or what?
Only god knows
Batch 2 wen
Won’t be able to get another taki until 22nd anyways
Hopefully there will be stock available by then
Hey I wanted to report something interesting I found with the crackling audio with the new 9.2 board that hopefully helps a developer track this issue down. I do NOT get crackling audio on Sonic CD's intro if I output analog audio from the 3.5mm jack and output analog video with a VGA cable to my YC active encoder from MisterAddons (composite) and feed both signals into my Magnavox 13" CRT. My MiSTer.ini has "vga_mode=svideo". It seems the issue only happens when I output video over HDMI and analog audio from the 3.5mm jack
This is a known issue with the 9.2 design. All 9.2 boards that use the stock design seem to be exhibiting issues with certain cores, mostly megacd and PSX. I dunno if it's been reported to Sorg or not. Current workaround is to use TOSlink and a DAC
Prepare your wallets, biatches!
He added 5 to the shop
Go go go
I didn’t need it so I didn’t check out lol
And gone
Wish me luck on Tuesday.
I will give it a try on Friday
Il play some Might and Magic 6 to pass the time. I never finished, well really played that one before.
did anyone else not get the email for a free case as a batch 1 buyer?
If you didn't have an account on the retroremake store, and sign up for marketing emails, you didn't get emailed. Unfortunately the codes have expired, and I'm not sure if taki is going to do anything for anyone who missed out, but all his communication on twitter, and the fact that the batch 1 case has been removed from the store points to no.
Yeah I got the message that I missed it. Oh well, I already bought a case from misterfpga but I was thinking of grabbing one due to the cost
I have been reading about the Atari Jaguar and Sega Saturn cores a lot recently and figured I would pickup a second RAM module for my mister Pi. If I swap out the AV board will I be able to have a dual RAM setup? Will it work properly? Thanks in advance!
Yes! Just take the av board mezzanine out and slap in a second SDRAM stick on its place and there you go
Sweet. I think the answer is no, but can you confirm something else? Is it possible to have the mt32-pi connected if using dual-RAM ?
Of course. The user io port is always available on any SDRAM configuration
Maybe I have my mt32-pi connected into the wrong USB then. Is there a visual aid I can use to go verify my setup?
You have to flip switch 3 on the FPGA board too for dual SDram
It connects to the User port not USB
Userport is the blue usb port on the io-boards
Usb hub has no userport
Just to add to what boot said, you don't want to remove the whole board. There is a little L shaped piece that enables the VGA out port. You don't want to put that in. you want the rest of the board as it will give you analog audio out, plus your reset/OSD/USER buttons
Thanks a lot, so I’m only losing vga out. I can live with that since I’m only using hdmi right now
yup yup. just don't install this board (because it sits where the ram will sit)
Ok, let me disassemble this a bit lol. I assembled it with the video
2 Hours and 52 mins
time to panic
Hoping it doesn't sell out instantly
If it does then, i dont know what to say
As long as there's bot protection or protection against people buying like 10 at a time to resell
limited to 1 per user afaik. how much that cuts down on bot usage, I don't know
That's good to know. Wonder how long it will take to ship.
last batch was 5 days between when I ordered and it shipped. I think taki said they will ship immediately - it's more a matter of when your order will ship
Nice, are they based in the US?
no, china. I ordered on the 6th and I think it arrived on the 16th?
Not too bad for shipping out of country
big ups to the F5 gang
Maybe I’ll try for one to scalp it. 😂😂
I just want to sleep
Nope
ahh good luck then
Thank you
hopefully the larger batch makes it easier for everyone
I hope so too.
1 hour to go? maybe i grab one from this batch as well. then i can have two sets!
Good luck everyone
Taki did really good. I have one from the first batch and love it.
Hopefully everyone that wants one is able to get it.
Don't gte distracted
just keep reading chat please
Good luck to all
Got one
got ... 2 totasl now!
easy peasy!
Woo just ordered
can this do multiplayer on two machine over network. i never looked into it
Waiting on @delicate hazel
good news
It’s now safe for me to order
You now have another RE2 N64 tester, ready to play
There was a queue system when i went to checkout
Hmmm.. in line to order another one 🤔
yeah I had already put 128GB RAM module and black case into my cart
added the mega pack, hit "checkout," waited maybe 60 seconds, and bingo bango, all done
Ok, ordered
And there was me stressing out
Do I need the 128mb module as well? Didn't know the memory it came with
Thinking due to that ltt (Non main channel) video
Time to print another case i guess. and i need a SD card. and see if i still have my old SNES gamepad?
thinking this one can be a bartop arcade machine?
Still in stock…
Yay more misters, the cult grows
This. We have too many cults here in the us already.
Crazy they’re still in stock
Yeah those other cults need to fizzle out
Nice they are still around? That’s good maybe he can shift to handheld instead of batch 3
Got mine, building a Mistaddons Pi hybrid stack. Excited for dipping my toes into the Mister!
And remember there are no dumb questions, just dumb people
Does any Bluetooth adapter work with mister pi? Noticed they sold out of the 5.00 ones on the site
I use an asus bt500 but there are many bt adapters that have been confirmed to work.
I use this one https://a.co/d/3ja0Iwq
Plug in and play using Edimax BT-8500, the world's smallest, nano-sized Bluetooth 5 + EDR USB adapter. Gain faster transfer speeds of up to 3Mbps with Enhanced Data Rate and an extended distance of 40 meters (indoor) than Bluetooth 4.0 (10 meters). Integrate all of your devices using Bluetooth SI...
This is the wifi/bt one that taki was selling if anyone wants that one in particular https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B3MJB99T/
Still in stock
Looks like all the folks that really wanted one were able to get one this time.
That is so cool
I can play Virtual Bart again!
Maybe lower stock than the kits? ¯_ (ツ)_/¯
Oh totally. I’m just saying I’m pleasantly surprised that there is still stock. I was betting on 10 minutes before sellout
My CRT will finally get some loving
In case anyone from Mexico tried to buy a Mister Pi, Taki just posted this: https://x.com/TakiUdon_/status/1858709630601621968
If you live in Mexico, you should be able to get a MiSTER Pi with this:
Silly question, is there a way to still get VGA out after removing this to enable a dual ram setup?
no
best you can do is direct video out of the hdmi port with an external dac, but that isn't "dual output"
if you just care about analog you can go that route, tho
Right. I can do without dual output, mainly want to keep VGA to use my VGA to Component cable on my CRT Trinitron TV.
yeah, you're gonna have to do direct video -> dac -> component
and you'll need to ask who is using what dac because you need to find one that has good colors AND doesn't drop out on resolution changes
(I don't use DV so I don't know what's the current good dac(s))
I got one recently from amazon but it's ass. Works but poor quality.
Still up for grabs, they must've made so much this batch!
I figured the LTT video would've sparked more interests.
Need to figure out what colors I am going to do for a retrofrog case. Grey and red, maybe?
Any recommendations on snac adapters or would it make a difference to just do USB? Would love to use original controllers with little to no latency.

sorry, missed this. the turbo/mega kits come with a 128MB RAM module, which is enough for pretty much everything on MiSTer. I like Saturn games, and the Saturn core is an exception as far as dual RAM modules are concerned (and arguably not even that necessary as optimizations continue coming down the pike)
basically, if you get a turbo/mega kit, you don't really need an addtl 128MB RAM module
4dapter and other daemonbite based adapters are a good option for USB also
https://www.tindie.com/products/timville/4dapter-switch-mister-retro-controller-adapter/
https://www.daemonbite.com/shop/
Jaguar core requires a second RAM module, but it doesn't have to be a 128MB one, it can be a cheap 32MB one
Thanks for the input guys, appreciate the help 🙂
I was just looking at the 4dapter, I think I might pick one up.
Does the 4dapter let you control the mister menus or is that keyboard only?
yes it does
Awesome just ordered one!
Hadn’t thought that the stock holds so long today. Easy chance for everyone to grab one. 😁
ya it's great for those who were patient enough to wait for restock
QMtech have stock today too, so there are even more options
Yeah I managed to put in an order for the mister pi
Still showing stock now so maybe the rush was mostly for the first batch ?
Or a bad timing date wise ?
doubt it its the ideal Xmas present for some
I think the main draw of the first batch was a plentiful option that brought the price back down to what it was which enticed more people that was either on the fence or were priced out
I bought a another mms instead, cause mister pi is ever there, but the mms for the reduced price (99,99£) will not come again I think.
I picked up a Qmtech which spends its time in the front room on the big TV
Richard stated he will be doing another of the MMS ready for the New year
Perhaps the 500 units aren’t sold out and he could keep some to stock again.
just waiting on my dual SDram board and case to arrive from Retrocastle for the DE10 to switch it over
Richard runs a commercial electronics company with everything made in house
My last Taki batch1 was dual stack, so I don’t need anymore dual systems.
Yes, but Heber has Open Sourced it in 2023 and ultimate mister has produced them since that day.
Yeah only really due to price and supply of the DE10 after inital launch. They were planning to carry on producing them
The big issue now is the add on boards are as if not more expensive than buying a complete stack from Taki or QMtech
True, next logical step would be an mms with integrated de10 clone. 😁
That’s save costs, cause no need for the double connectors and ports.
Richard really needs to revise the MMS design to bring it up to date with the 9.2 stock design. The analogue video scored very poorly in testing
That is what Taki is doing with his consoles but already has a supply line from Altera unlike Richard
The part that makes me laugh the most is while the MMS is open source, he doesnt open source the add ons and the prices for what they are is silly
What is the URL for MMS? Not familiar with it and am curious.
True, but I guess that the timeframe is short now. In mid 2025 we will see the first next gen fpga boards in the price range from about 350$.
Doubt it especially if they are using Agilex
its not going to be viable
If Intel retools and outsources to TSMC yes
Site says Jan/Feb 2025
They sold to less and have perhaps not get the costs back yet.
or he just likes the high margins ...
I think the quantities are low. Perhaps that’s the reason why we see no Jamma module yet. The pi thing has jamma now already
I dont know how many has been sold between Heber, Ricardo and Koala in total
I assume that mms is below 10k in total
Koala only did a run of 110 units, Ricardo did one run possibly two ?
No, Heber has sold minimum 2.5k alone.
Ricardo sold one batch with 100 in minutes…
yeah but how many restocks has he done though ?
They do batches and doubles the numbers every time to have stock, but sold out ever
Heber stopped selling and making them
Last batch from Heber was 1000 or 1500 units.
I haven’t understand them, cause Ricardo sold them well.
I don’t know how many batches Ricardo has done, but it was a few.
Ironclad is at batch 9 now… So he sold also about 1000 Boards alone…
Less complex and less testing and sourcing parts, etc. But they needs boards in the wild to sell the cards.
Preorder batch 3 is now also open for this
On Taki’s web shop?
Yes
Better grab one that is available as to preorder, pay directly and wait a few months 😁
Just looked out of curiosity, seems turbo is still available, not sure what turbo is vs mega though
just a case
Assembled in shell and a sdcard
it’s the “no need to fuck about” bundle. Comes pre assembled
Not all the Ironclad batches were of 100 boards though
He is just a one person outfit
True but he changed things so that he could handle it. Iirc he has to solder much less cause he get boards pre assembled with the small parts.
All these add on sellers have limited time left though with Takis console plans especially as he stated all models will come in for less than the DE10
QA a single PCB is much cheaper as a stack of boards. So if he only takes the stack price to make more earnings
Also save handling and shipping costs.
But for a moulded case you need quantities, so I believe that it make no sense to produce the stack addon boards. But we will see.
He stated he would carry on making the Mister Pi range and supply to the established hardware suppliers.
The new board revision with built on SDram will help too
The add on boards are cheap to rattle out
Where to Buy
@strong falcon’s website where you can purchase a MiSTer Pi - https://retroremake.co/pages/store
MiSTER Pi - Retro Gaming FPGA Board / Turbo Pack

https://retroremake.co/products/mister-pi-retro-gaming-fpga-board-turbo-pack
🚨 AVAILABLE NOW! 🚨
The new board revision was announced for batch 3, but if you look at the preorder, it seems it will be not ready for batch3.
yeah, I noticed that too. Maybe batch 4
Whenever it will make things easier for him one board two SKUs etc
We have seen BGA SDram already used too so know it works fine
Yes, but the module what I got was not better as a v2.5 version. I had expected more tbh.
There isn't much to gain with the revisions though
It was only needed for the Saturn at the time and then Sergey changed the memory controller
Please let me know if there’s anything else that should be pinned in relation to MiSTer Pi. Thank you.
The module runs fine, the difference was in the clockspeed in memtest. The Taki rams are my first modules that reach stable 150 MHz both.
My Taki SDram is around 148mhz but anything over 140mhz is fine
My QMtech soldered on SDram is stable at 160mhz
32meg modules will test at 160mhz too I found out
Iirc my mms ram is 145 and the BGA ram was 141 or 143. But you are right, 140 is already fine.
It's a chip lottery
Yes, that’s true.
My retrocastle ram is stable at 137...I have considered replacing it
If everything seems to be running ok then you're probably fine.
Saturn core and that Batsugun core push the ram
Yeah. the only time I have noticed a difference between my retrocastle and my misteraddons stacks is that misteraddons can run AVP on the jaguar more often than retrocastle
Sounds like a win for the slower ram then 😉
how dare you
I wish I could put my misteraddons stack in my main AV rack rather than the retrocastle stack, but the IO board's soft reset button keeps gumming up the works (can't reliably reboot the stack via smart outlet)
What if you switch to the barrel jack power?
I don't know if I have a 5v3 barrel jack. I suppose I could try the one that comes with the retrocastle stack
but then the io board doesn't function at all, yeah?
No IO board is powered by barrel jack as well
Oh yeah you need a splitter to two barrel jacks
yeah
That’s the traditional mister power method so you may not have them lying around
I am sure I can find one of those somewhere
Oddly when I was playing that great game of Memtest I tried on the stick which I have been using for a few years Rev 3 from MiSTerFPGAUK and it gets a couple of errors never noticed any issues though
ummm, retroremake shopping cart when I select DHL it starts to estimate taxes and then totally stop and doesn't show the taxes line at all, I was hoping there was a shipping method with prepaid taxes / import duties etc...
Let it run for like an hour and see what MHz it stops at
Yeah I left it for some time and settled around 147mhz
First time I have ever bothered running the test on it too
I was chatting to friend about it and he said his SDram errors too but never noticed any issues
I will swap it for the Taki stick I have just to see if I actually notice anything difference
I was never charged for tax either and I made two orders last night so I think what you see is what you pay for.
@jagged pecan you in the EU?
I bought a mister pi turbo stack to be used as a living room console. I don't really understand sdram at all. Is the blurb on the product page correct and that all existing console cores including saturn, psx, and n64 should "Just work" with the turbo stack?
Yes
Thank you. I think my confusion comes from seeing "dual" and "single" and "xxxMB" mixed around in discussions
SDRam isn’t a mandatory purchase for the MiSTer FPGA to “work”, but a ton of cores require it now so I’d consider it mandatory.
but the turbo pack comes with one stick, so you should be totally fine
I believe my "Main" mister is the 2x 128mb pack from misteraddons
only core that requires two sticks right now is jaguar
Dual ram isn’t required and for the longest time wasn’t used at all, but now that we’re hitting the limits of the de10, some cores are relying on it to get around limitations of the hardware.
And yeah, Jaguar may end up requiring it once the core devs are done improving it
I've never even heard of the jaguar so i'm going to pretend I've still never heard of the jaguar
Err it needs it now and it’s not looking likely it’ll work with one stick
honestly, this is the best policy
Does anyone know what the snac adapter included with the 2nd batch mister pis look like? has a photo been posted anywhere?
It has two okay games, you aren’t missing out
You can always use BigPEmu or whatever if you have too much jag fomo
No you’re not, now you’re in imminent danger of wasting your time on jag 😉
I'm in the US
I remember back in highschool someone tried to swindle me on a Jaguar, they were like I'll trade you all my games and the console for your psx. I was like what even is a Jaguar?
To this day I still have never seen one in person so they don't exist to me either.
the family that owns the cabin next to ours had a 3DO when i was a kid
that was the only place I had ever seen one. and I used to love playing Way of the Warrior over there
have also never seen a jaguar
It was originally designed as some kind of calculator, they never changed the controller or slogan
The best thing about the jaguar is Duck's new bios
I just know that the controller looks like a mad man designed it. There's so many buttons on it, I don't know how all of the buttons are being used.
@cinder crane show Clayde your overlays
Does the hardware make a "rawr" sound when powered on?
Yep
Sold.
That Atari got right
It’s neat, those plastic overlays sit on top of the keypad to give you button labels
Oh that actually makes a lot more sense now looking at it. I never even knew about the overlays.
Controller still looks unwieldy as hell lol
it's an awful controller
and the letters are reversed. It was one thing when nintendo started doing it, but they had the good sense to stop at B. CBA is too much
Overlays do sound better than my current ' map numpad to dual analog stick directions and wiggle both till the thing I want happens' method
That’s not bad either lol
If you have never played Wing Commander on the SNES, you should
because the game required so many keys, you had to do things like "Hold left bumper, up, select, and B to do a barrel roll"
Check the country again. I was playing around with an order an that was changed as I am filling the adress fields. Seems that there is some bug leftover 😂
Can't be worse then steel battalion for the og Xbox
Lol, Jag designer was a fan of the game and overcorrected
I like the Jag controller. To me they looked at the numpad/keypad controller for the Atari 2600, and improved it.
I think the overlays was an interesting concept.
yessssss me too
They stole the idea from the coleco vision
The controller made for only one game 😂
tbf, I think steel battalion fucking rips. what a ridiculous idea for a video game. imagine how many board rooms and meetings that stupid controller had to go through in order to ship
it's a miracle it exists at all
and the game deleted your save if you didn't eject
I don't even see how that thing got passed lol
LMAO
That was one of the best eras of video games because companies were shipping weird but functional controllers. This wasnt a power glove or activator, this was a real controller that was built well, but only worked for one game. Same with that R4 controller
R4 controller? You mean the resident evil chainsaw?
no no, that's when we moved into the wacky collectors edition era of controllers. there was a sweet spot where we had weird controllers that were the absolute best option for a game or two
the chainsaw controller is not the best controller for any game
The Jogcon is a game controller developed and produced by Namco for the PlayStation.
Originally released in 1998 as part of a special edition package with R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, it was designed to combine the function of a steering wheel controller, while maintaining the size of a standard PlayStation controller. This is accomplished by a dial ...
Oh I have one new in box. My kids will retire on it
I remember stacks of steel battalion at gamestop taking up lots of room.
yuup. and getting them traded in and having to put the controller together in order to test it
Let's see someone beat dark souls on that thing.
I guess the chainsaw controller was the same era as steel battalian and jogcon. in my mind, they feel eons apart
Does the steering wheel even act any better then just using a analog controller?
people swore by the jogcon
Hahaha
I am not a racing game person
so I can't say if it's any good
but man, people went wild for that thing
Kinda looks like it would cause hand cramps having to move your thumb all the way to right to turn.
I use it and love the Jogcon
I am better with an original controller at R4 though
The Jogcon has great haptic feedback, feels awesome to push against the paddle and when you’re out of a drift it loosens up
There are some base boards again in the shop. 😁
Curious to see what the numbers end up being. The first batch sold out immediately.
yes with a different io board
dual ram, analog out
So I was corrected on Taki's discord by the man himself. Apparently, you can do HDMI > VGA out (I didn't realize a cord like that existed) if you turn on Direct Video
so you can use the full taki stack, with dual ram, and just use an HDMI > VGA cable?
yes always, i personally prefer this solution for its neatness and high quality
you still have the issue of finding a 'good' hdmi->vga
not impossible but there's a ton of junk out there
yeah, that was definitely my concern as well
been keeping my eye on MiSTer Addon's DAC for a while for that purpose. Good for MiSTer and anything with an HDMI port in general
https://misteraddons.com/products/reflex-prism-hdmi-to-analog
IF YOU INTEND TO PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT, PLEASE SIGN UP FOR EMAIL NOTIFICATION. I WILL USE THIS TO GAUGE INTEREST! The retail release will have a professional injection molded case Features: Lag free HDMI to RGB passthrough conversion (no resolution upscale/downscale) Dual video output Video levels tuned to spec but als
DOES NOT DOWNSCALE BTW
I believe the retrocastle i/o board is good, but I'm not sure they sell that as a separate thing?
And afaik none of the good hdmi->vga devices have a digital audio output, so that’s something you lose compared to IO board
You know how much it will cost aprox?
Not yet (I'm hoping for $50)
I believe bacon did a video on it too. Looks real good
yeah that’s how i got mine
Anyone found any hidden discount codes on Taki video?
There was one turbo pack available and I've just snagged it it seems 😛
Thanks, unpinned my message
Which one?
The one about the turbo pack being available to buy with a link to it
I think they are getting sporadically in stock. Earlier today it wasn't available, for example.
Probably, yeah
Not sure if you want to link those or not
Would having direct links to those help?
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I got his site pinned at the top anyways
I think it's dangerous as someone might confuse those with readily available ones
Truuue
good call
Geez, just realized I have 4 MiSTer setups now! Gotta get some treatment!
Can you even be a mod if you don't have at least two? checks rulebook
Dude I shouldn’t even be a mod lmao
Do you see the bullshit I post?

He’s actually not sure what a mister is and has been calling his raspberry pi 3b a mister for years
Welcome. you at least have been in this game longer than I… I have no excuse
How many have you owned in your life?
I think I've sold other 4 to friends/relatives, so 8 😄
keeping the mister economy strong
fully mental MiSTer user here lol
Gotta give sorg those Vodkas right
yep they were all used
as i watched the video, a minute after it came out
the codes were the names of core devs featured in the video
Anyone know if orders for batch 2 have been shipped yet?
I asked on their discord and no one has had one shipped
“You got Super Sega’d!” Taki peels off in a Lambo
Well at least taki could probably drive better in a Lambo
I'm glad everyone has been saying Lambo. It makes the scam seem more fun.
Pipipipipipipipi
I both love the supersega lambo video and the incorrect driving a lambo takes it has given everyone
watch out guys, here comes the king of cool to teach us about Lamborghinis
Just had an email for mine,
My order is on the way
Hmmm, the curios thing about sportcars is the fact, that most of them are now only a division of well known brands from vw.
So any big idfferences between the Rev1 and Rev2 packs?
the ram is matched up with he board and it comes with a SNES snac adapter
All the rev 2 buyers should test the older 64 core 😛
I wouldn't mind
As I said before, I'm happy to do any sort of testing with my batch 2 order. Just as long as I get clear instructions haha.
Clear instructions to send me your batch 2 order?
No thank you. I don't fancy staying up till 2am again.
Or just look if the sdram has the sticker or a real print on it. Sticker would mean same ram as batch1…
Bare board seems on stock, so no rush this time.
