This is more a question of curiosity since the pif file can be downloaded easily, but did Nintendo ever use that file for any of their emulated N64 releases? I'm guessing not since it seems most emulators don't need the file but it was an interesting thought.

Shuishang Motuo (iQue) is the same thing as Wave Race 64 Shindou, which currently doesn't boot. Been playing the unQue hacked version which patches out the iQue stuff for retail N64 stuff, and it works great on the core. In case anyone wants to try out rumble in Wave Race 🙂

I wonder what release will bring Yoshi's Story into playable status?

And with the way the game is designed, multiple playthroughs will essentially be playing completely different games.

#

They thought it was so strange.

#

And--yeah--it was.

wise hemlock
#

does anyone know a good sin and punishment english

#

I found the patch to be a mess

zealous hull
#

Hm. I wonder if it's the same as the translation from the testers archive

wise hemlock
#

I figured someone would have dumped the rom from the switch or wii

zealous hull
#

Ooh. Yeah, that's a good point.

wise hemlock
#

I have a bad dump of it and it was crashing on ED

#

But it was running great on the 17th core I tested

#

Japanese version that is

zealous hull
#

According to an old forum the ripped rom is untranslated.

wise hemlock
#

the rom hacking one is fan translation

zealous hull
#

No, I'm aware. I'm speaking to the Wii VC dump.

#

When you extract the ROM from the Wii WAD, it's untranslated.

#

Which is...strange. I almost don't believe it.

wise hemlock
#

archive shows an emulator friendly and normal rom

zealous hull
#

The only translation I can find is from 'Vanit Studios' on romhacking(dot)net.

wise hemlock
#

Only other game is TREASURE Bangai-O

#

Dreamcast version is far superior

#

but I would like that translated

#

Yeah Vanit is fan translation

#

It is decent, but I wonder where the official release rom is

zealous hull
#

By official, you mean Wii VC, etc?

wise hemlock
#

Yeah

zealous hull
#

Because--like I said--it looks like VC bundles the translation in with the emulation package itself. The raw ROM you extract from the WAD is just the Japanese release.

wise hemlock
#

yeah like auto patch on boot or something

zealous hull
#

Something like that. Doesn't seem like anything useful that can be dumped to work with OG hardware.

wise hemlock
#

Odd I have checked a few times i figured someone would have dumped it complete

#

It is a large rom also

#

so space may be an issue

zealous hull
#

I just don't think it's possible. It seems to be modifying the rom in such a way that isn't really conducive to dumping.

More comparable to an emulator plugin more so than a patch, from what I'm reading.

wise hemlock
#

Yeah the patch is not a simple ips for the fan game

#

It is nuts what you have to do to get it working

#

Gonna try that Vanit one as it says 1.1

#

mine is 1.0

Be interesting to see if it boots on MiSTer CORE

It really is wonderful! If you're familiar with the N64 emulation scene, you may know how stagnant Emulation became, practically at a standstill for at least a decade. At this time, some games still didn't work, and most of the ones that did still had some major graphical glitches. Games were PLAYABLE, sure, but they always felt... off. Until very recently, that is.

ENTER MiSTerFPGA and Robert Peip.

His core has achieved in (Checks vampier's timeline...) what... a month or two tops, what emulation only hoped for from the mid 90s to 2010-ish. It really is special.

Not to mention... N64 on MiSTer just FEELS right. Something traditional emulation could never nail.

native mesa
#

Sounds right. I think that's all it is on real hardware

quasi storm
#

Half of it was probably just a CRT doing its thing...

native mesa
#

My understanding is vertical lines are doubled from 320 to 640 and then an average is taken between the lines

#

It's why hardware mods can 'deblur' since the original image is still there every other pixel

quasi storm
#

Is that a part of VI?

native mesa
#

I don't think so as Robert wasn't very familiar with it

#

I think it's part of the analog circuit in hardware

quasi storm
#

I recently read some documentation on the N64, and I remember nothing from it lol

native mesa
#

If it's omitted it wouldn't be terrible

#

But you'll never get a 1:1 with original hardware without it

quasi storm
#

Having the option would be nice though

native mesa
#

"The blur is not just anti-aliasing. It’s a horizontal 50% blur. The N64 outputs a 640 pixel wide image, even if the backbuffer is 320 pixels wide, and it doubles the backbuffer’s width to fill the line. The appearance is an “off by half pixel” blur done horizontally. Correcting it produces a sharp 320px wide image. The scene’s rendering and use of AA shouldn’t affect it.

Because the blur is exactly 50% “between pixels”, that means every other column is a 100% intact part of the original 320px image. So, if we simply drop the blurred columns (odd columns) and re-use the good columns (even columns) we have a restored 320 pixel image. Naturally there is zero lag in this technique."

quasi storm
#

That's cool!

native mesa
#

My N64 is modded to remove it

#

They made some questionable choices back then but I guess it was bleeding edge graphics stuff. Maybe it was to make the boxy models look more 'organic' before skinning and to cover up the low res textures in most cases

little socket
#

But if aa those edges don't bleed

It was definitely to disguise how low the texture resolution was. You can even see it in a lot of cases when you remove that bilinear filtering on the core and just see absolutely massive pixels coat everything. Looks really ugly in a lot of cases.

A byte plus a nibble gives you -2047 - 2047. I propose we call that a Bruce. Since he both bites and nibbles.

If anyone finds a need I have a cache of ~22GB of retro manuals.
