when a read follows a write, the cache tag might have been updated by the write and stored in bram, while for the read there is already a read for the tag in the same cycle in the same bram. If both access the same address you get random results, depending on which bram the placer picked and depending on your board 😅

I got to try Robert’s DDR3 test core with DDR3 overclocked to 1050 MHz. It seems like it decreases avg and min delay by around 25% from 16 to 12, and bandwidth by like 3%. At lower burst sizes it has a much larger impact on bandwidth
