sé de lo que hablas

#

lo he padecido.

cyan horizon
#

gloomy sentinel
#

Yo no iba a votar

cyan horizon
#

Ya, en esas estaba yo 😄

#

Same shit, everywhere 😄

gloomy sentinel
#

No me he explicado bien. Siempre he votado.

#

Also, yeah, X68k is the MSX3 we deserve! XD

I used RGBS output to whatever CRT I had at the time. Space Manbow is an absolute masterpiece. Someone on the shmups forums modded an NES controller with a genesis controller pcb and a mode switch, so I could use it on MSX and Genesis. I preferred it over the A1 controller I had.

stuff from Spain looked amazing with very detailed pixel art

however the gameplay went from 1 to 100 in like 25% of stage 1

the UK based gaming industry was based on bedroom programmers who liked to copy eachother

fallen summit
#

potent abyss
#

Or motivation, I guess

#

What are your thoughts on Japanese vs western chiptune composition?

fallen summit
#

Western Chiptunes use the same tricks and are mostly longer in composition

#

you hear the what I call 'Gremlin' sound in a lot of SID/PSG based systems

#

there are great composers out there

#

the Japanese kept is sweet and simple most of the time while using the perfect sounds

#

sound effects in Western games weren't as creative

potent abyss
#

I find both sides interesting, but what is also interesting is the cultural drift between the 2 sides since the internet. 8 Bit music power on Famicom has Japanese chiptunes by industry veterans with lots of European influence on them, something you generally didnt hear back in the day.

#

Ok people - here is how the core is going to work

potent abyss
#

Is this a beta core? Looks like you can select specific models of Phillips MSX

fallen summit

Keep on watching

#

Also read the title

potent abyss
#

Oh

#

sudden kite
#

Wow amazing 😍

fallen summit
#

So basically the core does EVERY MSX1 or 2

#

I have been testing a version that is a few weeks old now - and I really love it

potent abyss
#

I am excite

marble barn
#

So is the core still being actively worked on but there hasn't been a new test build?

karmic rover
#

Yep

sudden kite
#

I need to test it

potent abyss
#

Err yeah.. me too 😄

karmic rover
#

On the OSD, I saw a possibility to load a VHD file 😀

potent abyss
#

So this is a more accurate MSX core, is my understanding?

karmic rover
#

The big differences are :

  • we can use retail bioses
  • use MSX1 mode
  • load contents from the sdcard so no need to put them on VHD and use sofarun
potent abyss
#

Nice. So MSX1 mode has colors that look correct to MSX1, rather than MSX2's VDP?

karmic rover
#

Yes you can see it also on the yt video above

potent abyss
#

This method of selecting the computer type seems unorthodox

karmic rover
#

It maybe a new format *.msx containing all informations (bios rom, disk rom, etc...)

potent abyss
#

Oh, it's BIOS related

karmic rover
#

Yes I think so

potent abyss
#

@fallen summit will be pleased all the demoscene files will run

karmic rover
#

If on the future, MSX2+ and/or MSX TurboR are added the OSD will be the same just the MSX bios file to produce.

Yamato-San wondered about the name change in this issue here https://github.com/ThreepwoodLeBrush/Names_MiSTer/issues/13 How does the switching to MSX2 work with the current version of the core that is distributed by the MiSTer Updater? Maybe you or one of the other MSX experts here can answer Yamato-San in the issue report?

GitHub

Hello there, is there a reason why the more recent MSX1 core by molekula (repository here) is labled as „MSX1/MSX2“? From my understanding the core supports MSX1 games only. Am I missing something ...

teal marten
craggy iris
formal vale
#

Thank you @teal marten and @craggy iris. Molekula, from how I understand your approach, simply labeling the core MSX1/MSX2 does not do it justice. With the current public core, naming it "MSX2" creates a false expectation, too.

If you agree, I would rename it to simply MSX. Your approach is to load machine specific configurations that happen to be MSX-1 or MSX-2 compatible, but it is not possible to select either standard in the core. Such a selector would not even fit your approach.

#

But if you or anybody else in here has suggestions, we can take a bit of time getting the name right this time around.

craggy iris
#

Yes, one could take it that way. For now, MSX1 is really MSX1. Once I get the project to a level where it is viable, the time is right to rename the project. To give you an idea, here is a picture of what the configuration looks like when uploaded as a ROM package.
