Yo no iba a votar
Same shit, everywhere 😄
Sorry guys!
MSX power! Yeah! Love MSX! Kisses!
Pues eres joven tú, no?
Yes. MSX power, but X68k is the real MSX3 🤣
No me he explicado bien. Siempre he votado.
Also, yeah, X68k is the MSX3 we deserve! XD
Lol
came for retro systems. stayed for spanish lessons.
LA HOSTIA EL LOCO, MACHO!! 😄
macchu pichu
MSX computers speak all languages 🙂
0xc9 at yah 🙂
Is there a Quran rom for msx?
There is!!!
Where did you get that phrase from? LOL!! 😄
hablo desde mi corazón
So it's a personal experience with animal hair flavored soups? 😄
yep. it ended up being turtle soup. who knows
yes - there is a lot of educational software out there for Arabic MSX machines
It exists
die verdamte hamster ....
os mistérios das linguas do MSX

good morning MSX fans
any MSX-ing going on doing the weekend?
any MSX games you played
maybe looked at the new MSXDev2023 entries
I was restoring one of my x68k
and i tested it with akumajo dracula MSX plus megaturbo.
you what now?
I had a problem with a ram module
neah, just the usual demo/compilations exploring from tosec list 😄
oh nice
Does TOSEC have a complete list of MSX software titles?
it contains a lot of crap
untested stuff
dupes
alternative dumps no one cares about
and the rom collection is one big mess
the ROM collection that is updated monthly these days is the most accurate one
and contains curated stuff instead of 70 versions of metal gear
That's amazing work

Wow! Been away from my mister for a few months and come back to find a new MSX2 core nearly ready to go! Need to look into setting it up

https://vampier.net/MSX/
Amazing, thank you! Something to do after work this evening
sorry, corrected links lol
for some reason, my mouse scrolled and give you bit off ones first 😄
Thank you, the “old” core Vamp helped me set up with a VHD but this looks quite a bit easier and it’s nice that it works more like the original hardware
it can even run Unix 😛
admittedly just from floppy (no IDE support yet), but OCM one could not via Sofarun and neither from VHD despite my countless times I tried to build a partitioned VHD for it)
ROM games, Disk games.. most of them seem to work fine afaik
All sounds awesome, I got the OCM one setup last year with the intention of finally beating Snatcher and Vampire Killer and just didn’t find time, but I will get around to it, just hunting down a certain release that’s alluded to further up this thread relating to Nosferatu and a zip file
Just located it
Is there a way on the new MSX2 core to save cartridge games? For instance can I set slot 1 to GameMaster2 and load my Rom in slot 2 to save to?
Sorry should have stated it’s for the original Metal Gear
yes to disk
Would that be by just mounting a blank disk as A:?
Thank you @fallen summit
np
as how to use game master 2 - one moment 🙂
not sure what the key is in the core
I think stop = end
ay
forgot even though it's to a manual that I can't post that link

Ramadan is coming up soon and there is a Quran rom available for MSX. Does it work on the new core?
Called Al Alamihah
It needs the bios that support the fonts else it might just keep on resetting
This ROM is not supported at this time.
Space manbow according to "early 1990s konami game cover of a sunfish in space with an super nova"
thanks Dalle-2
another MSX SoC?
It is the MSX0
dafuq is that. portable msx thing
Not my thing - but still cool
I'm sure it's super expensive
Nishi wants to sell his device
He's 30 years late for that lol
That’s awesome you’re a headliner at the event Mr Nishi
No I am not

Haven’t seen them yet. Still working through the earlier entries but I will.
I had this lovely unit
Rensha ~
ALso had a regular MSX2 Panasonic, cant remember the model name.. A1 somthing
Ah here it is
I only had one European game, Vampire Killer (just a relocalization of Akumajo Dracula for Japanese systems)
No Mega SCC carts or anything, just had physical disks and carts for these
the XV is so cool ... i have a XDJ
i'm packing up for a move right now and i'm debating how i want to get my MSXes across the country, haha
antistat bubble wrap to the max
yeah, for sure. i assume uhaul has all this stuff; i have to go there for trailer hitch things anyhow
It's the pink kind, Im pretty sure
yeah, that sounds right
yup!
I used RGBS output to whatever CRT I had at the time. Space Manbow is an absolute masterpiece. Someone on the shmups forums modded an NES controller with a genesis controller pcb and a mode switch, so I could use it on MSX and Genesis. I preferred it over the A1 controller I had.
i really loved the output on crt
Aleste 2 is a banger too
news flash - the Konami games released in JP/EU are the same with the exception of Metal Gear
they just detect a JP/EU computer and switch title screens/language
yup, i have a US (hah!) and a JP MSX and salamander switches languages between them
kinda cool
here's the last pic i took of mine ... in a cramped situation
Oh cool, is that an external floppy drive?
it's a cleaner integration in the msx it actually belongs with, haha
Is that the American MSX1 that came out for music? A friend had one of those
yup
IIRC there arent joystick/gamepad ports on that one. We tested a Japanese Salamander cart and it booted right up though
Oh allright, cool
one big limitation is that it's only got composite video out, but there's homebrew replacement stuff for that
also, of course, it's just a msx1, so there's that
Thats not so bad, I think all the Konami shooters besides Space Manbow and Nemesis 3 will work on MSX1
Very nice.
i know CRT pics are hard but here's a shot of some weird msx2+ doujin mystery/thriller game on mine
not many msx2+ specific things out there, heh
Ah, good to know. For some reason I thought it was MSX2 only.
Just not with the color palette adjustment
The smooth scroll is only msx2
The ‘recent’ hack
Those hacks are pretty cool
Space manbow uses screen4 and screen 5 to display stuff
The power bar is screen 5
The field is screen 4
The pixel art is amazing with the limitations they had to work with
Yeah, Space Manbow is really cool. I saw there was a fan sequel, probably should look into that too
Oh, thank you 🙂
i love the smooth scroll hacks, and the ones with the voices added, haha
what i don't love is how bad i am at them with smooth scroll...
Victor did an awesome job
Is that the smooth scroll hack author? My thanks to him
I am pretty ignorant of the MSX community, sorry. I am a casual who just wanted to run games.
those green things on her neck are to hide the vampire bites
I booted up that hdd image, it's nice. Shame the 1chipmsx is not as accurate as everyone would like
Oh, I hadn't even considered the demoscene for MSX
Syntax infinity craps out
I was wondering if the Syntax Infinity demo on the OCM was displaying the same behavior:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd5ic5ynAWg
@2:24 the Twisting Bar - t
Cool looking demo, the vector graphics looked nice
Does it work on the Molekula core?
same VDP glitch
HaRa was going to look into it
Is there any update on the core? Seems to have been quiet for awhile.
I never owned an MSX, does that make me a heathen? 🤔
The 1chip based core is great for games, no better way to get started
We can fix that
patience 🙂 you don't like suprises? 😄
the core and openMSX are great as an alternative
imagine an MSX core that does Turbo-R / Midi / Networking / RS232 / OPL4 / Harddisk support / V9900 / SCC / FM
Well I used to have a couple MSX's and also don't have them anymore, so I'm a sinner too
I respectfully disagree sir, I would rank it just below Space Manbow
They use a lot of really cool tricks - that big airplane in stage 2 is just one big background graphic
And the amount of sprites on screen is amazing
Bullets / multi colored enemies
Fast scroll
And hardly any slowdown most of the time
I'm a big fan of "Tecmo Theater" I enjoyed putting the disk with the cutscenes by itself too.
PAC himself is following me on Twitter for some reason 🙂
Thought that that was pretty cool
love aleste 2 and aleste gaiden
a japanese made a conversion for X68000 and Sega Megadrive
Aleste Gaiden
I'd be interested to see that
Looks pretty interesting! With it being a doujin project and all, I do wonder if it's available online anywhere though. I've run into some PC98 doujin games that are/were only sold in certain PC shops and are not dumped online.

megadora version
they are not available for download
😦
That's a shame.
I had a X68000 XVI Compact for many years, it was a great computer. I never did upgrade it's RAM or get a SCSI drive working with it though.
those floppy drives are the hell
Oof, tell me about it. Those little 3.5 inch drives are horrible to repair.
I had a lot of problems with XVI compact and these floppy drives
the OP-AMP for PCM tends to fail too
Beautiful machine, but extremely weak
and open these computers is like open the hellraiser box
A little high maintenance, you could say. I would have preferred a full size XVI but $120 USD was too good of a price to pass on.
the full size is much better in all the ways
I'm hoping the MiSTer core can be improved more this year.
yes
it's stoped
the Japanese PC's doesn't have a good cores
all of them are broken in some ways
hope they can advance step by step
Which cores specifically?
PC-88, PC-98, X68000 and FM-Towns
Ah, Puu's cores
Is he still active
every so often he posts about FM Towns work
if he gets a decent processor out of what he's doing to FM Towns, that could be shoved into PC98 most likely
Difficult to see in this bigger group picture, but I used to have Akumajo Dracula and Vampire Killer on MSX physically
why so many NES castlevania 1 ? what are the differences ?
IBM PC 3.5, IBM PC 5.25, Amiga 500, Commodore 64, NES, FDS, MSX, GBA
different versions or ports, sometimes the same
All are okay, except the Amiga one
Famicom cartridge re-release has a difficulty setting and a Konami splash screen intro

Explain which
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Akdra SFC is pretty fun.. but X68000 is a lot better IMO
so I'm compiling a list of top MSX1 games; I came across Youkai Yashiki and I thought damn this game looks good for 1986
turns out it's a modern patch 😅
Who has not ever played an MSX classic by Casio? They are entertaining and special games with a catchy PSG music, without a doubt they have a unique style!
That is on Famicom Disk System as well
technically it's still the same system, but I've been splitting modern homebrew and original games. Would this count as a modern homebrew?
I'm finding there's lot of really good MSX1 homebrew games
Oh wait... the DOS and Amiga releases had that box ? I didn't know.
I've never seen them physically
but amiga's castlevania is ... PAIN !
I thought all these boxes were NES, hehe
They sure look the same yeah, haha
The manuals are shared between all PC releases, they just have a different sticker to indicate the version, or have it printed directly in the same spot.
that was pretty common at the time. I even remember some game boxes would show only the (better looking) Amiga vetsion in screenshots... sneaky
That's an interesting detail with Castlevania, as the box showed a version that was never released, unlike any of the versions that came out. My assumption was always that they were mocked up
these look european
ZX spectrum style of thinking
chopped off and deformed limbs
Oh my, the ZX. Well, it kind of speaks for itself.
SPECTRUM MAKES MY EYES TO MELT
In a good way or a bad way?
ZX Spectrum is mind numbingly bad. The only thing worse is early CGA
Tim Follin deserves a grammy for making that piece of crap actually generate music, even if it does sound like "a vacuum cleaner with nails in it"
The Spectrum was the computer of the working class! 😄
I'm sorry the buying power of the Pound Sterling was weak in the early 80s and Clive Sinclair is brilliant but that computer fucking sucks
If one more person tells me the ZX Spectrum version of Robocop is better than Data East's arcade game I'll slap the taste out of their mouth
Europe doesn't deserved to be saddled with being associated with the ZX Spectrum
That shit is on the UK
Toastrack is awesome-looking
you and I will get along just fine 😄
"Sorry you couldnt afford a Commodore 64, please stop telling me this piece of junk is amazing"
you always had the feeling of care and quality with most Japanese games
even if they were crappy most pixel art was top notch
stuff from Spain looked amazing with very detailed pixel art
however the gameplay went from 1 to 100 in like 25% of stage 1
the UK based gaming industry was based on bedroom programmers who liked to copy eachother
the ones who stood above the crowd made good games - but the crappy copies overshadowed their games
great graphics .. but the gameplay
I see what you did there
funny - I had exactly that game in mind
yeah graphics and music were good for the Amiga
I really like the Amiga 500.. but not for platformers and action games and shmups
imagine that it had the same kind of gameplay as Usas for the MSX2
but James Pond!! Seriously... the reskin for the - The Adams Family - was just as bad
I do not understand why gameplay was so hard to code for these type of games for western developers
lack of imagination?
Or motivation, I guess
What are your thoughts on Japanese vs western chiptune composition?
Western Chiptunes use the same tricks and are mostly longer in composition
you hear the what I call 'Gremlin' sound in a lot of SID/PSG based systems
there are great composers out there
the Japanese kept is sweet and simple most of the time while using the perfect sounds
sound effects in Western games weren't as creative
I find both sides interesting, but what is also interesting is the cultural drift between the 2 sides since the internet. 8 Bit music power on Famicom has Japanese chiptunes by industry veterans with lots of European influence on them, something you generally didnt hear back in the day.
Jeroen Tel 😛
Talented man
pained man
that's the 'gremlin' sound indeed
Such cool mixes of styles, I love modern chiptune
I am actually packing up some stuff as I type this for Inverse Phase
Was this made for Zophar's Domain? Used to use that site all the time
Oh hey, bad apple
Zophar is also on Twitch
Why is it called bad apple? I know it starts with an apple but I’ve never paid enough attention to know if it like … goes bad
As one bad apple spoils the others, so you must show no quarter to sin or sinners.
The original video for Bad Apple!! is one of the most well-known Touhou videos. Here's the original, together with English subtitles:

Whoa I thought it was just anime girls
yeah the 2nd link actually explains the real thing
Interior of the drained lake
All in all stage 3 is a bit simpler than stage 2 the enemies that show up are either there solely to be blasted away or have fairly predictable attacking patterns.
Your primary worries are a couple moves both the mid-boss and Elly will pull off however so long as you go out of your way to make sure you don't get co...
I love this one
Touhou
he is playing with OPN sound.
it's incredible how much can be done with 3 fm and 3 psg.
I got a PC-98 emulator running at proper speed for those games
Really energizing music
The doujin scene is strong for NEC's computers, it is a wonderful thing
Can you clear up the terminology for me? Doujin is basically the Japanese equivalent of “homebrew” right?
More or less in this conversation yes
"fan made" "stuff"
PC-88 and 98, specially 98 have a big amount of doujins
a lot of PrON
but great games
shoot'em ups
puzzles
there are great official games like Night Slave that it's a SFC Valken like, that have porn, but you can deactivate if you want. The game is awesome.
action game
other game that has porn is steam hearts
but a great shoot'em up
PC-98 has a lot of Compile stuff
actually really cool and makes me want to fire up the msx core
@fallen summit does it work good on MSX1?
i can't wait to have huge long loading times in between battle transitions
i guess if it worked on the regular MSX core i could just turbo things up
Msx2 only - boot with CTRL pressed
ooo thanks
@spark jacinth How is it treating you?
i ended up getting distracted, going to try it in a bit, just got home lol
woah tthis is there too i'm seeing
any benefits to this version over the NES original?
different sound chip is interesting, but overall no
i just realized i can't really load .dsk directly so gonna hold off on this, it's gonna require more effort than i initially thought lol

playlist to hear one of the main differences
there's the main differences in the game though compared to famicom/nes
I couldn't get the translated version to load, it wouldn't detect that i was holding tthe ctrl key upon reboot, ah well, but here's the japanese one rushed through and then game over for a bit hehe
Interesting! Not a fan of a lot of the music I heard there but it looks nice
Yeah it's kinda interesting, except bad load times and bad scrolling.
The translated version sure works without any problem in the core, I put some hours into it using a beta translation months ago
On the MSX2 core or the one chip msx core and you loaded it into a vhd?
Sounds like it's not optimized for MSX2+
the new core MSX1/2 of Molekula doesn't support vhd for the moment
Molekula seems to be taking a more grounded approach, rather than the 1chip MSX based approach of the regular MSX core
Call Fmpac
yes, i was asking how the person loaded it without problems. for me in molekula's core using DSK, I couldn't get the translated version to load, it didn't listen to me holding CTRL down on reboot. it does work with the japanese version though
correct, the work in progress msx2 core on the different branch is not msx2+ or TurboR compatible yet afaik
but final fantasy is just MSX2
I was talking about the game, yeah
Holding CRTL is not working on some games also maybe some bugs still present
yeah
I think you can just mount vhd files and add/remove files to them as you please, if you wanted to try it on the 1 chip based core
A Gradius clone/parody for MSX2, but it kept the 8 pixel scrolling! Also, it borrowed the music from Salamander, however, it was remade for MSX-MUSIC.
The game is obviously a parody by a hobbyist: Mr. Harada. Thanks, it was quite fun to play! :) Except for that final boss monster... which was quite hard to tackle.
I do wonder what all thos...
Was playing this today, it's pretty fun. In the VHD for the 1chip core
yes you can - @spark jacinth download one of my quick boot vhds
SMS MSX ports from Korea
Sega MSX
Sakhr Computers was a Kuwaiti company (Al Alamiah co.) that was selling MSX computers imported from Japan in all of the Arab world. These MSX were localized by Al Alamiah and rebranded for the Arabic market.
Doesn't appear to be, no. Didnt know about that shmup construction tool for MSX. Only messed around with Dezaemon on Famicom..
x68000 and PC-98 had shmup construction tools too
fm towns too
the fm towns one is ugly as hell
one of the best games is Super Shooting Towns
and it is ugly
The doujin scene for these PCs has always been very interesting
the best doujin for FM-TOWNS is Alltynex
this game is...
master piece
but needs a powerful machine
Is this a beta core? Looks like you can select specific models of Phillips MSX
Wow amazing 😍
So basically the core does EVERY MSX1 or 2
I have been testing a version that is a few weeks old now - and I really love it
I am excite
So is the core still being actively worked on but there hasn't been a new test build?
Yep
I need to test it
Err yeah.. me too 😄
On the OSD, I saw a possibility to load a VHD file 😀
So this is a more accurate MSX core, is my understanding?
The big differences are :
- we can use retail bioses
- use MSX1 mode
- load contents from the sdcard so no need to put them on VHD and use sofarun
Nice. So MSX1 mode has colors that look correct to MSX1, rather than MSX2's VDP?
Yes you can see it also on the yt video above
This method of selecting the computer type seems unorthodox
It maybe a new format *.msx containing all informations (bios rom, disk rom, etc...)
Oh, it's BIOS related
Yes I think so
@fallen summit will be pleased all the demoscene files will run
If on the future, MSX2+ and/or MSX TurboR are added the OSD will be the same just the MSX bios file to produce.
I work on the core with varying intensity. I haven't released a test build yet.
Good observation.
Great to hear you are still working on it, when MSX2 comes into Main it is going to be a big deal. Thanks for your dedication and hard work on this. 🙂
The core has both VDP variants
Excellent.
Yes, it is.
That's how I plan to handle it.
Thank you for your time on this project !

guys you are in for a real cool core here
I couldn't really disclose much as it was not for me
but yes VHD support is something that will be nice to have
in effect this is what I wished for at the start of a famous GIThub discussion 😛
the options are there but do not have to be used
just as with a real MSX
Demoscene for Vamp
I used to be part of it - I stopped around 2000 with that stuff
I cant even get it to recognize my online handle, this thing has some picky syntax
I mean..
Im flattered but this is BS
Is there an English translation for snatcher on MSX?
Yes
The original PC versions fo Snatcher don't have Act III, but have their own charming aesthetic to them
SD Snatcher is also translated
Is it fan translation?
Yes
The SD-Snatcher Translation come in 2 flavors - Oasis and Project Melancholia
Project Melachcholia has the technical implementation by Max Iwamoto (from MSXTranslations.com)
I'm part of MSXTranslations too
I run their website and do some proof-reading
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasnt there one for Snatcher or SD Snatcher that was behind a paywall?
not anymore
Bruh why are you so cool
MSX cool
why every single American YouTuber shits on MSX?
"eh it wasn't that great"
"not a big deal as I expected"
"this crap sux"
in my opinion, arguably MSX beats all the crappy American 8-bit home computers in most aspects
Like what? PC Jr/Tandy? XT/cga with a basic system speaker? Not a high bar to clear.
all of these aren't 8-bit platforms
I meant things like the TRS, Commodore, etc etc
TI
which arguably had 16-bit CPU but it wasn't exactly a 16-bit system
Hm, well I think the C64 is a strong machine overall. Good video for 82, great APU. Do these YouTubers seem like they are the type to just compare everything to nes?
I think so
it's easy to say stuff sucks while completely ignoring the limitations of the time, and the much deeper market segmentation from not having internet
MSX games were realy fun to play if all you knew was Apple II and Spectrum
Oh yeah I forgot how graphics and sound were crappy on apple ii
In comparison with MSX, of course
they were better in some ways. 16 color Sierra adventures...
but no hardware sprites
US based consumer did not really have Japanese games until the NES came along.

More or less, less educated US classic gamers will often make strange comparisons
OMG LOOK AT THIS CHOPPY SCROLL!!
omg look at the zx-spectrum port to the MSX!! it's so bad!!
I am a fancy educated type so I do not fall into these plebian traps 🧐
Exactly this lol

Hey @fallen summit I have something you maybe haven't heard, SCC wise..
I do not own this music. All rights belong to its respective holders, Konami Holdings Corporation and its composers Tsukasa Masuko, TECHNOuchi, Takuya Hanaoka, Motoi Sakuraba, Aki Hata, Nobuyoshi Sano, Manabu Namiki, Yousuke Yasui, Masafumi Takada, Yoshitaka Hirota, Mitsuhiro Kaneda, MANYO & Tenpei Sato.

Official Konami made SCC re-arrangement of Divine Bloodlines from Dracula X: Chi no Rondo
I have heard this before somewhere 🙂 this sounds really nice
I stumbled over it, in the middle of a random AST album and was like "wtf? thats SCC!"
It sounds like an approximation of SCC and PSG
Or it is just heavily processes
Whatever it is it’s done well
Yeah I dont know, we'll never get the actual file to play on our systems so its just guesswork
my (not so) long search for an input tester for MSX is over 😄 https://www.msx.org/forum/msx-talk/general-discussion/input-device-tester-for-msx-dos
A few days before the end of 2022, I thought about making a port of my InDev Tester program, from Commodore to MSX.
wasn't available here 😄 so we only went drunk mostly
Teacher was teaching the basics - and told me to put a pixel on screen
Instead of that I put a rotating cube on screen
Was even frame buffered lol
Well it started with a pixel since it was zoomed out - then i pushed a key and the cube zoomed in
Teacher was like - oh show off
Then we had to build a parallel port device for GPIO ports
Had 8 leds
So I started programming running lights and PWM stuff
The teacher was like - you’re just here to have fun right? 😉
Those where fun days
nice lol
I got the 3D calculations from a friend
Made a star field as well
Never filled the polygons though
i remember hating Pascal back then, preferred x86 asm and C/C++ lol
I didn’t do assembly until I made pwnd2
Waiting for doc so I might drop when he comes in
Damn you should at least call
?
It was a very bad joke, consider yourself fortunate to not get it
Poor pedro
Here is the full MegaDrive/Genesis OST for Midnight Resistance played by MSX using "Pseudo P6ROM" (OPN2 FM) and PlaySoniq (Sega VDP DCSG) cartridges. While I much prefer to actually play the arcade original with it's cool rotary joysticks, the MegaDrive port has the superior soundtrack by far. I really dig how the DCSG (PSG) is used here. A l...

Damn what a cool box art!
Can do
Konami had excellent taste in ripoffs
you know who that is with his 3 eyes in his head right?
If theft was the sincerest form of flattery, Frank Frazetta is a very flattered man
Dr venom or something?
There’s a story? lol
yes there is a story
never saw the Salamander Anime?
This 3 episode OVA from 1988 is based on Konami's Salamander/Life Force arcade game, a spinoff of Gradius. Pretty cool if you're a fan of either series!

@bright rock any questions? 😄
@bright rock do you want to know who the Bacterion are?
😄
I was born out of the greediness of mankind. While men exist, so will I!
Wait what the hell, there’s a freaking anime for Gradius!?
Although, it should be stated the MSX story and the mainline series story are not really intertwined all that much
Yass Robby there is
Holy shit that’s so cool
PM me for the hookup
NO, you made me scared yesterday
Theres no porn, lol
lolol
Ninja Ryukenden, Wizardry, Final Fantasy, Ys and others also got anime
I only knew about FF
Goddamn I love this Discord. So many cool people with amazing knowledge.

Actual YM2608 (OPNA) MSX cartridge playing Rusty. Lovely sound on this thing. There is some icky static at the end of the first track, as MSX VGMPlay appears to be incompatible with Rusty's weird custom voice samples. Currently these cartridges are extremely difficult to get sadly. Worth it though. Good luck! :)
00:00 Rusty
03:03 Queen in ...
Dr Venom is also in the NES Gyruss IIRC
- @potent abyss mentioned this on an MSX stream earlier with basic kun
Gaming Alexandria is giving us quite a lot of goodies
I love Terminator 2

Welcome to Murrica.
We have music based MSX1s, in small quantities.
found the rarest and heaviest MSX model on Japanese auctions
here you can check your MSX collection if you have any unknown roms
50 files at a time max
Is Microsoft still developing BASIC? I thought it was mothballed decades ago
apparently it's still being developed
lol
well we can just as well wrap up every open source project
it will stop development
Kazuhiko is a dinosaur stuck in the 1980s mentality, he won't comprehend open source software 😬
thinking of getting a real msx2; can anybody suggest a model that is easy to mod with a SD card or usb solution?
is it just a matter of removing the floppy drive and putting a gotek in there?
any should do, provided that you get a Carnivore2 with it
An MSX2+ will do you well
why not go the extra mile and get an MSX Turbo R 😛
Expensive, small exclusive library
yeah.. only slightly more exclusive than MSX2+
I mean if money is no object, sure why not
money is usually made of many little objects
A someone who owned two Turbo Rs, I would stick with a Sony or Panasonic MSX2+
Unless you want to drop some real dough on a Turbo R and MFR SCC+ cart
IIRC the Turbo R CPU speeds up performance of the cart's UI
Plus you can play the few Turbo R exclusive games
And Turbo R supports MIDI by default, i.e. a real MT-32 with Illusion City
This was a good mail day
Kind of wish I had kept this one
It almost looked unused
Yeah so fresh;

those are huge no? looks like the MSX2+ would be easier to fit on a desk
I like the red accent of this one
still not sure about the size though
I think both have similar sizes
Does that say "combine OK"? 😉
it says "operates OK" ... 64KB RAM, 128KB VRAM... and 128 horsepower 😆
it takes carts.... just put them in the glovebox
MSX0 is something he’s working on
to be cancelled soon after?
some users have MSX0 in japan. they were available in Akihabara
so it's a arm running an emulator
and it has a basic extension made by the creator of gr8net I heared
which needs to be called in basic with a call command
despite Nishi telling me that basic is still actively developed
(it's not and has not been for 35 years)
Which basic are you talking about
Super lame
msx basic
Ah yeah!
Nishi-san is stuck in the 1980s
Somebody gotta help him!
Exactly 30 years ago an 18 meter tall, 30 meter long dinosaur appeared in Shinjuku, Tokyo in an event that celebrated 1 million MSX computers sold. Created by the same company that made the models for cult classic Godzilla, the dinosaur was the attention grabber of MSX Dinosaur Land which took place between December 1st, 1985 and January 16th, 1...
at this time Japan have a lot of cash
OK so if I am understanding this correctly
MSX0 is just an arm computer/console like a mini basically
🤨
That looks expensive
Looks pointless
Nishi san
maybe he's conflating BASIC and VB? lol
but yeah, once C was mature, BASIC was done for lol
dunno
Is it money issue for msx3 ?
Maybe someone needs to tell Nishi about Kickstarter
Where he can make money without having to deliver the final product
What is MSX3 supposed to be? Is it some new platform like the 8bitguy's computer?
Turbo R was already kind of the MSX3
@craggy iris how are things going? I know you're busy
I see that Time Gal was released on MSX (I've seen VHD tapes for Time Gal going for ~1500$) , will it be ever playable on mister ? seems like the game is impossible to ""find"" anyway
Neat. I've always wanted an MSX Laserdisc system for Badlands myself.
not dumped yet
I'd be willing to participate financially in getting it dumped
There was talk of a Daphne core
I've made some progress with MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD, but now I'm stuck. I'm not satisfied with the outcome and I'm trying to optimize it.
I wouldn't call it a problem, rather the complexity of the initial design that makes further progress difficult. So now I'm spending time on optimization before moving forward and releasing the next version.
Oh got it
I have had the luck to put myself into those scenarios as well - but it shows that you learned how to do it better in the end
Or at least I hope when that happens 😉
I am watching the repository and this channel on a daily basis, Molekula. The core so far is simply incredible.
@cyan horizon but you didn't like all these bells and whistles 😄
NOnono, what I didn't like is getting another 1ChipMSX core...
Thank you Molekula to keep going on this core !
Yeah, it's not exactly a 1chipmsx core, that was a misunderstanding:p
What’s the value in having a 1ChipMSX versus this new one?
Sofarun is really cool though, it even has a MisterKun
oh the misterkun menu was something I created
HeWhoIsRed even helped me adjust MiSTer Kun to look better on the MSX
It’s great!
The main reason I was psyched for Amiga core was the demo scene
Im still looking for a way to remove demoscene stuff out of the Amiga Vision image
Enable it in Super Attract Mode and your likelihood for seeing poorly digitized porn goes up dramatically
@potent abyss amiga stag party
Have you ever tried to edit an Amiga hard disk image
Its nots as easy as youd think
it was more a comment on digitized pr0n
Ahh
@fallen summit , got a question. Do the MSX Laserdisc games render in 480i like arcade, or 240p like on MegaLD?
Makes sense. Darn.
It has the only good home port of Badlands on it
Got my MSX Turbo-R's RAM upgraded, and now I can finally play this newly released game. For the 8-bit MSX this is really impressive stuff.
@fallen summit I'll hazard a guess and say this won't run on the current cores lol
for this game we needs a lot of addons on real hardware too 🙂
I'll assume it's out of reach for the MiSTer community for now then XD
yeah !
OpenMsx runs it fine with the right settings
An emulator? Sir I run a MiSTer FPGA. 🧐
Yah yeah
But yeah Ill probably try it out in OpenMSX
Does anyone have any experience converting a .wav MSX file to .cas? Is there a tool that does this?
IS 3-1 still the latest released of the MSX core?

famicom prettending to be a MSX?
What is that? A famiclone?
Yup
Hehe, I love the weird clones
Well that one isn't weird, just plain lazy and shitty
wait is there a keyboard under there?
There's only one way to find out
Yamato-San wondered about the name change in this issue here https://github.com/ThreepwoodLeBrush/Names_MiSTer/issues/13 How does the switching to MSX2 work with the current version of the core that is distributed by the MiSTer Updater? Maybe you or one of the other MSX experts here can answer Yamato-San in the issue report?
I don't think that has been officially released yet and is wip
I replied to the thread. Hopefully I explained it correctly.
Thank you @teal marten and @craggy iris. Molekula, from how I understand your approach, simply labeling the core MSX1/MSX2 does not do it justice. With the current public core, naming it "MSX2" creates a false expectation, too.
If you agree, I would rename it to simply MSX. Your approach is to load machine specific configurations that happen to be MSX-1 or MSX-2 compatible, but it is not possible to select either standard in the core. Such a selector would not even fit your approach.
But if you or anybody else in here has suggestions, we can take a bit of time getting the name right this time around.
Yes, one could take it that way. For now, MSX1 is really MSX1. Once I get the project to a level where it is viable, the time is right to rename the project. To give you an idea, here is a picture of what the configuration looks like when uploaded as a ROM package.
Homebrew?
Never played it, any good?
not released yet - or released today
as with a lot of spanish titles - no free stuff
Hmm 🤔
Let the ROM begging commence
Gryzor87 shows several MSX music composing tools and presents "Pampas Y Selene" and "Westen House EX"
check above at the timestamp
I will remove the mention of MSX2 for now then 🙂
ROMZ PLZ
Oh yeah let me just break out my EEPROM dumper
@fallen summit are you aware of a translated madou monogatari hack that makes the game English ? I’ve seen one person on YouTube play a part of the game and it has English text but I’ve seen no romhack online for it and the person playing had no link or description about it.
@limber kettle there is a user called Django who puts out low effort untested translations
this might be one of these
Yeah you’re right I see it now
here is a summary of his translation
10% translated sometimes - or he calls it 100% and sometimes you get dialogue that is still in Japanese
Text that doesn't stop and it just keeps on dumping the memory on screen and it freezes the game
game breaking bugs introduced somewhere along the line aren't resolved
or just randomly picked stuff that doesn't make any sense at all
Yikes
🫤 that sucks. Ah well. I guess at the very least I could use my phone to translate
sometimes a translation is better than no translation
but in most cases of Django - it's better to have none
I am sure he means well - and I respect him for it
but https://msxtranslations.com - we put a lot of time/effort and testing into our translations
MSX Translations brings quality Japanese to English translation patches for MSX1, MSX2, MSX2+ and MSX Turbo R games for the best games released for the MSX.
Just an FYI, not a knock
looks like https://msxtranslations.com/ is proper for the cert
MSX Translations brings quality Japanese to English translation patches for MSX1, MSX2, MSX2+ and MSX Turbo R games for the best games released for the MSX.
That being said..
but luckily these days LE can issue wild card certs so that can be easily fixed up on the next renewal
@potent abyss I run that server 🙂 here it shows up fine with chrome
Im not worried about the site, just letting you know
I wonder if anyone runs a general site for all the translations that arent on RHDN
Oh well, Ill vouch for it if anyone asks
adjusted the link
Nice that the MSX Last Armageddon will have a translation
Max and Tsunami are working on new stuff
but they don't have a lot of Time
I mean I posted the announcement of Fray 12 years ago
Shame for people who cant speak J
Well, read I guess
Im fond of that game, it really turns a lot of RPG tropes on their heads
Some people rather drink bud light over a Belgian Lambik - some people rather live in poverty than being rich ….
Some people are just mental
You can’t prevent this
Except Bud Light is better than Belgian beer?
Bud light is Belgian - but I was talking about a Lambik
InBev is the corporate conglomerate behind it all
@bright rock fully knows about Amiga CV1 now
Nate is on this server, he must have it muted as he is not defending his opinion 🤔
I can’t even troll properly wtf
I love Amiga CV1
Let me bring my pitch and fork
I love it like one loves a really bad movie
It's kusoge
oh yeah absolutely!
Have you played Trio the Punch @bright rock?
No, is that in the Saturn core?
Oh no, it has no core.. but it is top tier kusoge
A playthrough of Data East's 1990 action arcade game, Trio the Punch: Never Forget Me...
Played through on the default difficulty setting.
Trio the Punch: Never Forget Me... has got to be one of the strangest games to come out of the 1980s. There's no coherent story to hold it together, nor is there any sense of logic driving its set pieces. I...
Looks fun
