This is recorded via an OSSC using an original PAL CD on a PAL Saturn switched at 60 Hz.
The framerate is computed from the recording duration vs the number of states of each demo.
On demoes the framerate is normally capped to 20 instead of 30 as in game. The ...

Yu Suzuki have it.
Frogbull was working on it, with a little help from vbt, some weeks ago when I talked to him.
The fangame was tested on the Fenrir (and the original hardware).
I know for sure the game won't boot with the SAROO (at the moment).
So we will need some time for testing it here, just to be sure.
I hope that someday Frogbull will have a direct access to a MiSTer system too.

I've done a quick test of Shenmue, there are some issues with the emulation of old arcade games.
Issues opened for DOOM Fix Patch and Shenmue.
I try to have the developers involved (one way or the other) on helping in the resolution.
The Master System emulation seems to be done by vbt with SMS Plus Saturn Beta, but I need to talk to him too.
yeah that has issues, testing right now.
I'm discussing with vbt at the moment, he was in charge of the SMS emulator inside the fan game.
If necessary I could contact Frogbull too.

I get it, but lots of people have used SSP without issue (including me) ... it was developed by Knight0fDragon, a trusted member of the Saturn community.

For Saturn? Do they improve the accuracy? I can't get the guns to be as accurate as on the nes or PSX cores.
it was something to do with 480i lightgun games (there's only 1) and maybe a small tweak to accuracy

For Shenmue, the game was writing to the VDP2 registers with bytes instead of words, that's illegal from the official manual.
But, the real console allows it.
So, the manual was (once more) wrong.
Just to be super-duper simplistic, don't quote me on that.

I'm working with emudevs since at least 25 years now, everyone except the Dolphin team had access to confidential documents or have read them, even partially.
The most egregious ones I know of were the N64 emulation developers - everyone involved with the N64 since at least 1999 knew about the Oman Archive (SGI leak) and how to access it.

No ST-V changes since then.
The core is automatically rebuilt each time when the Saturn side is updated.

Timings are so tight that modifying the disc speed will be extremely complex on the core.

We already have some issues accessing with games in CHD format and/or on external disc drive (Ultraman, Time Gal, SOTN with Ultimate pach), so speeding up the whole system seems compromised.

Yep, I learned the hard way that "Tiiime Garu!" can't be played in CHD format on the core, only CUE/BIN 🙂

Homebrew games sometimes expose odd quirks of the console’s architecture by utilizing undocumented features or just doing things out of spec. If it works on real hardware, it needs to work on MiSTer.
If that homebrew didn’t work on real hardware there would be no fix for it, for example.

He posted a picture of his saturn with a ton of logic probes jutting out everywhere years ago. Not sure if he is still working in a similar environment since that was before his move and I seem to remember he had to leave a lot of his dev stuff?
Not sure if he has multiple consoles to test against, but based on the image that would be a lot of work to switch between them

yes, but it's effecitvely one-off hardware (in terms of arcade games, who knows what Boeing used it for) and extremely complex, so I'm not aware of any successful emulation or FPGA recreation attempts
so I'm wondering if the 32X SH2 version is an easier "lift"

Some SNK games only work with the 1M version instead of 4MB.

Either it's a problem with the DRAM version, or the dump is faulty, as I've checked on my side and it works without issue on the same stage.

Some of the developers were joking elsewhere that working on the DOOM fix patch and the Shenmue fan game were in fact test cases for the core.

Technically they run with the 4MB RAM cartridge, they just have graphical glitches because they were developed before the 4MB cart came out and the programmers did something weird where the game addresses things incorrectly when used with a 4MB cart.
And yes, Samurai Shodown 4 is one of the games with graphical glitches when using a 4MB cart

Rule of thumb is to use the 1MB cartridge for the SNK games and 4MB for the Capcom games.
Like you can use the 4MB cart with Metal Slug, but you will have more slowdowns too.
Fun fact, even though Samurai Shodown 3 also came out before the 4MB cartridge, it doesn't have graphical glitches (because the devs didn't program it stupidly)

Saturn Shenmue was a vibe
I must admit I'm a little bittersweet about some of the discussions and results I've had recently.
It seems that the core is missing certain parts and is generally "incomplete" for the tastes of several skilled and respectable devs on the system, or even that it takes shortcuts.
At the same time, the core seems to perform better than any software emulator for this system, from the testroms and the game catalog.
I'm leaving for at least two weeks and will see if I can do something to improve the situation in the coming months (new discussions between devs, what is lacking from their PoV).
For the end users, the core is almost complete, but in reality, it could require years of advanced refinements on several parts.
That's interesting, I'd love to hear more in the future

You’ll need to disable the second controller port for some games, like “In the Hunt”, “Shinobi Legends/X” and “Night Striker S”; this is an issue with real hardware and not a bug with the core!

The question always is; is the end user aware? If a code replicates the experience of playing a real Saturn…it’s accurate
Beyond that if it’s some rounding error or obscure, never used call or function…where does one even draw the line?
It’s like the commenters that say “but Conker needs a patch”…and sure it does. But it’s the exact same EXPERIENCE as playing Conker without a patch
and beyond that, it will be better with whatever the next platform is. can address dev shit then - it's a miracle it functions as it does right now
The people I love are the touchscreen phone emulation users. Happy as a fucking clam tapping at a screen because “video games are fun”. We need more of them 🙂

Nothing against it. It's just not a platform I'm worried about. I'm sure it has a few gems.
For me for Mister to be that all in one device it needed to have NES, SNES, N64, GameBoy, GameBoy Advance, TG 16 and CD, Neo Geo, Game Gear, Master System, Genesis, Sega CD, PS1, 3DO.
Everything else is a bonus at that point. The MS DOS core has been a major blessing though
We are definitely about at the point now where even the more seasoned gamer would struggle to name a system (that is doable on the DE-10 Nano) that isn't on MiSTer
When we have to name obscure Japanese computers, then you know we are in a good place in terms of coverage
Would love an FM Towns Marty core that is as user friendly and stable as the CD console cores we have though
CPS-2, N64, and Saturn have been amazing bonuses for me.

So it seems unlikely. Ngage has a 104 Mhz processor, also unlikely.
Also worth nothing that many things seem finely balanced - you make a change somewhere, and that screws up the timings and then there’s another set of regressions that needs to be fixed 😅

So I ran update all to grab the new TMNT arcade game, now when i boot Saturn (and only Saturn) the boot.rom takes nearly 10 minutes to load, and when it finally finishes, screen stays blank. Any ideas?

have a look for any recent saturn config files
copy/backup and delete to see if the core boots again

Most of them only work with original hardware with a Fenrir and/or a SAROO.

fixed a dumb mistake i’d caused myself
turned out i’d named my sakura wars CHD files incorrectly
yeah they had “ (Disc 1)” in the title but then they had the name of the translation team afterwards
so whenever i turned on backup memory the thing would “corrupt” on the next boot
changing the game file & save file name to have “ (Disc 1)” at the end fixed everything
Congrats on the latest build! MVG would've been savage if the undocumented mirror addresses for WDT weren't handled

Hi Guys, is there a trick to using misterddons snax v2.1 saturn adapters? I have snax 2.1 plugged in, with a sega stunner in one and a controller in another. I'm using the unstable nightly core. And it doesn't work, the stunner start button works, but no trigger pull, and the controller doesn't work at all. I'v tried everything I can think of, restarting the MiSTer, unplugging and replugging into the snac port, clicking switch game pads in the OSD. nothing sees to work. The crappy hing is, everything worked fine a week ago. this seems to be how snac is, it's very hit and miss. thank you for any help.

if stunner worked before, I would guess it's a connection problem between it and saturn adapter. maybe try plugging it in all the way and then pull out a 1mm or 2. The saturn connector can be finnicky. But you should only have 1 saturn thing plugged in at a time in left port.

I asked about this in another channel and was directed here with the recommendation that I share the save file. I completed Deep Fear today, but maybe after the first ending FMV, the next didn't load and I got kicked back to the Saturn menu. I watched it on YouTube, and I haven't had a chance to try to replicate the problem. I was also pretty dejected and didn't really feel like redoing the end. I don't want to clearly describe anything here so that I don't spoil anything. The file is a CHD file. If anybody can help me out, that'd be great.
How easy is it to reach the ending from your save?
I think it's about ten minutes of play and you might have to shoot or avoid a few enemies. I'm about to try it again now myself.

Yay, was worried with the talk of the issue list getting light srg320 would start wasting more of his life on 3DO
It might just be an issue with the US version, which never got a retail release. It played fine all the way until that point, though. I just got the JP version and renamed the save to see it through to the end without issue. Maybe the EU version will work just fine too.

there's no way for it to auto switch, the MRA references 'ST-V' and that will search for that core in the arcade cores directory
Two ways. First see if the core launches at all. If you’re on single ram and it doesn’t then it’s the dual ram version. If the core works and you’re using either your single or dual ram setup, see if it has the Fast Timings option. If it does then it’s the single ram core.

I just rename all the unstable cores to the latest stable core name and replace them. That way I don’t have multiple cores and update_all doesn’t try to redownload the latest stable.

I've used Google translate. I used the A.I. translate on RetroArch to complete Belzerion on 3DO and it worked well with few mistakes
Since the latest ST-V update i can't start any game. The button mapping is done but example the coin button is wrongly labeled to the test or service button. And the there is not a working START button.

They need to be manually obtained. A recent MAME Software List ROMs set is perfect. They are located in a subfolder called stv.

I just make sure to run the update stv script each time there's a new STV core to be sure everything is up to date
SRG doesn't make the MRA's, Zakk does. Just assume that you're going to need to update after every release. Or you can use Dave's excellent script to stay up to date

MRA files are basically like a script. It sets everything up to play an arcade game and configures things so the hardware runs correctly.
Console cores do not require that because games don’t modify the hardware in unique ways. They’re software that just run.

Basically if you were to do it manually, you would download the STV core here: #unstable-nightlies message
And then rename that to "ST-V.rbf" and place that into the Arcade cores folder. The mra files would load that core then.

everytime i run update_all my STV arcade games stop working and I have to run the update_STV script to get it working again
I use that script too
the update_STV script also creates a new pointer (sym link) to the core when it gets updated
The sym link lives in the Arcade folder, while the core it points to is in Unstable
thanks that makes sense why we need to run the script. My follow-up question would be if that could be added to update_all so we dont need a separate script everytime
I think the answer might be that once the core is no longer in active development/becomes stable (hopefully) the script won't be needed and there will be another solution that's baked into update_all
yeah, update all will likely put the stv core in /_Arcade/cores, and the MRAs will be part of the mister respository

we have definitely entered the "fix something break something else" phase. But it is up to SRG to decide when it's "done"
