Knowing and following the works from fafling since years, it was clearly tested on original hardware, so the core is at fault.

I've not tried it on the MiSTer yet

Also, that Doom patch really is a huge improvement

Aww, the Shenmue is CUE, ISO, WAV format

# rich violet I've not tried it on the MiSTer yet

Frogbull was working on it, with a little help from vbt, some weeks ago when I talked to him.
The fangame was tested on the Fenrir (and the original hardware).
I know for sure the game won't boot with the SAROO (at the moment).
So we will need some time for testing it here, just to be sure.

I hope that someday Frogbull will have a direct access to a MiSTer system too.

I've done a quick test of Shenmue, there are some issues with the emulation of old arcade games.

#

Issues opened for DOOM Fix Patch and Shenmue.

#

I try to have the developers involved (one way or the other) on helping in the resolution.

ripe valley
#

The Master System emulation seems to be done by vbt with SMS Plus Saturn Beta, but I need to talk to him too.

teal steppe
ripe valley
#

I'm discussing with vbt at the moment, he was in charge of the SMS emulator inside the fan game.

#

If necessary I could contact Frogbull too.
fafling is busy right now, for the DOOM patch.

#

My French lessons served once more in my life and for the MiSTer project.

teal steppe
#

unfortunately my power supply in my Saturn broke otherwise I could load Shenmue on there to compare.

hearty marten
ripe valley
#

i'm sending some more intel from vbt to srg320.
That's all I can do at the moment, as I'm on sick leave until early May.

#

I'm just following some current projects, so we aren't blocked at all on pending stuff to review or to check quickly.

I just came here to see if this had been reported, I reproduced on stable January core and most recent unstable dualRAM core

I love that kinda stuff, when a performance ROM hack exposes MiSTer core issues - the funny results from real hardware pushed to its limits. here's to hoping it can be figured out by anybody in the know.

Fun fact, even though Samurai Shodown 3 also came out before the 4MB cartridge, it doesn't have graphical glitches (because the devs didn't program it stupidly)

Metal Slug is OK, too

Saturn Shenmue was a vibe

ripe valley
#

I must admit I'm a little bittersweet about some of the discussions and results I've had recently.
It seems that the core is missing certain parts and is generally "incomplete" for the tastes of several skilled and respectable devs on the system, or even that it takes shortcuts.

At the same time, the core seems to perform better than any software emulator for this system, from the testroms and the game catalog.

I'm leaving for at least two weeks and will see if I can do something to improve the situation in the coming months (new discussions between devs, what is lacking from their PoV).

For the end users, the core is almost complete, but in reality, it could require years of advanced refinements on several parts.

Hi Guys, is there a trick to using misterddons snax v2.1 saturn adapters? I have snax 2.1 plugged in, with a sega stunner in one and a controller in another. I'm using the unstable nightly core. And it doesn't work, the stunner start button works, but no trigger pull, and the controller doesn't work at all. I'v tried everything I can think of, restarting the MiSTer, unplugging and replugging into the snac port, clicking switch game pads in the OSD. nothing sees to work. The crappy hing is, everything worked fine a week ago. this seems to be how snac is, it's very hit and miss. thank you for any help.

if stunner worked before, I would guess it's a connection problem between it and saturn adapter. maybe try plugging it in all the way and then pull out a 1mm or 2. The saturn connector can be finnicky. But you should only have 1 saturn thing plugged in at a time in left port.

I asked about this in another channel and was directed here with the recommendation that I share the save file. I completed Deep Fear today, but maybe after the first ending FMV, the next didn't load and I got kicked back to the Saturn menu. I watched it on YouTube, and I haven't had a chance to try to replicate the problem. I was also pretty dejected and didn't really feel like redoing the end. I don't want to clearly describe anything here so that I don't spoil anything. The file is a CHD file. If anybody can help me out, that'd be great.

#

How easy is it to reach the ending from your save?

sturdy gorge
#

I think it's about ten minutes of play and you might have to shoot or avoid a few enemies. I'm about to try it again now myself.

I just realized that you’ll need to have it set to backup cartridge to access the most recent save, #65.

It might just be an issue with the US version, which never got a retail release. It played fine all the way until that point, though. I just got the JP version and renamed the save to see it through to the end without issue. Maybe the EU version will work just fine too.

have a quick question,. i have two mister setups that i swap an sd card bewtween. one is single ram the other is dual

#

i keep stv updated thru stv update and update all

#

but heres something i dont quite understand

#

before when i was updating stv manually, i would just use either the single or dual ram version depending on what i needed at the moment

#

now that everything is being pulled down automatically, im not sure if my dual ram build is still using single ram stv

#

or not

#

how can i confirm?

warped saddle
#

there's no way for it to auto switch, the MRA references 'ST-V' and that will search for that core in the arcade cores directory

burnt matrix
# green jacinth how can i confirm?

Two ways. First see if the core launches at all. If you’re on single ram and it doesn’t then it’s the dual ram version. If the core works and you’re using either your single or dual ram setup, see if it has the Fast Timings option. If it does then it’s the single ram core.

green jacinth
#

okay good call

#

just checked and its fast timings

#

which means its auto launching the single ram version

burnt matrix
#

Correct

#

Make sure you don’t have multiple versions of the cores too

green jacinth
#

i guess i gotta manually set it to the dual ram version when im running on my dual mister

#

im looking in my /media/fat/_Arcade/cores/ folder

burnt matrix

am i mistaken, is this folder pointing to a shortcut to the stv rbf thats located elsewhere?

No, that’s the correct folder for arcade cores

green jacinth
#

okay

#

threw me off, my fxp program looked like the stv rbf was a shortcut. been a while since manually added. looks like im all sorted out now tho

#

thx for the help

warped saddle
#

if you're using the script it probably IS a shortcut

#

I think they symlink it to the ST-V core downloaded in the _Unstable folder

so you could just switch that

How can I open STV games with this core?

thorn turtle
#

You rock homie

burnt matrix
#

It’s pinned in this channel too if you need to reference it again.

thorn turtle
#

The Saturn core lets you pick the game, but ST-V doesn't. I appreciate it!

upper dust
#

You pick the STV games in the Arcade directory

wise brook
thorn turtle
#

Right! But what dictates which core to use to load them?

burnt matrix
#

You can open it in notepad or any other text editor to see what it’s doing

thorn turtle
#

ok let me do that

burnt matrix
#

MRA files are basically like a script. It sets everything up to play an arcade game and configures things so the hardware runs correctly.

#

Console cores do not require that because games don’t modify the hardware in unique ways. They’re software that just run.

thorn turtle
#

<rbf>ST-V</rbf> is this it?

wise brook
thorn turtle
#

and it puts them in an _Unstable folder

river river
thorn turtle
#

oh shit nice!

#

so let me ask you guys this...

#

Die Hard Arcade (UET 960515 V1.000).mra

#

when i open it in notepad, it says

#

<rbf>ST-V</rbf>

#

But in my cores folder, I don't have ST-V.rbf

#

so how does it open?

river river
#

Have you used the script I linked to?

thorn turtle
#

no, not yet

river river
#

Or read the instructions Robby linked?

#

They both handle that for you

thorn turtle
#

Ok thanks, I will do that now

pearl harbor
# thorn turtle no, not yet

Basically if you were to do it manually, you would download the STV core here: #unstable-nightlies message

And then rename that to "ST-V.rbf" and place that into the Arcade cores folder. The mra files would load that core then.

thorn turtle
#

Thanks @pearl harbor

pearl harbor
#

The scripts are nice to automating that process, but it's nice to understand how it works sometimes too. I personally like to manually install it when it's updated for that reason. Just a personal thing though.

thorn turtle
#

My question since i'm trying to learn is:

#

Die Hard Arcade (UET 960515 V1.000).mra
when i open it in notepad, it says
<rbf>ST-V</rbf>

#

But in Arcade > Cores I have

#

Saturn_STV_20250424.rbf & ST-V_DualSDRAM_unstable_20250424_135631.rbf

#

So which one is it using?

#

Currently.

river river
#

The second one

pearl harbor
#

Depends on if you have a dual ram build.

river river
#

It'll pick ST-V_DualSDRAM

pearl harbor
#

If you don't have a dual ram MiSTer, then don't use the dualSDRAM unstable.

thorn turtle
#

I do. Does it know?

river river
#

No

pearl harbor
#

If you do, then rename the dual ram rbf to "ST-V.rbf"

river river
#

He doesn't have to do that

pearl harbor
#

Ah

thorn turtle
#

I mean, when the game is loaded I can just hit F12 and go to about to see the core that is loaded right?

pearl harbor
#

I've always just grabbed the dual ram build myself since I also have a dual ram setup.

river river
#

It'll match the ST-V at the start of the filename

river river
thorn turtle
#

Ok so <rbf>ST-V</rbf> means it can "contain" ST-V

river river
#

Yes

thorn turtle
#

but it doesnt necessarily need to be ST-V.rbf

river river
#

Yeah

thorn turtle
#

Ok I get it now...

high bramble
#

It needs to contain ST-V at the beginning of the file name.
It won't load Saturn-STV because Saturn precedes it.

I guess we can still use update_STV.sh to get the mra´s to work right?

#

everytime i run update_all my STV arcade games stop working and I have to run the update_STV script to get it working again

topaz mica
#

I use that script too

upper dust
#

the update_STV script also creates a new pointer (sym link) to the core when it gets updated

#

The sym link lives in the Arcade folder, while the core it points to is in Unstable

yeah, update all will likely put the stv core in /_Arcade/cores, and the MRAs will be part of the mister respository

burnt matrix
#

Can just so it manually by following the instructions in the pins. That’s what I do, I don’t got no skreeptz

weird stance for the "let me run scripts from anywhere" guy

we have definitely entered the "fix something break something else" phase. But it is up to SRG to decide when it's "done"

wise brook
#

last update means there’s only one known visual glitch for dual sdram users left

#

the biometal title screen

#

besides that just a couple of feature requests really ought to be added.

#

and analog triggers on main

Nothing to add other than my love for SRG
