If his back seats fold down then you’re more than covered.
Or just remove the seats
no no dont remove that seat
thats robby
look at the guns on this guy
he'll help you get that cab in there
Someone paid bringing their own large transport vehicle where it can stand straight up and just be rolled in anf out.
I would actually help anyone here with that if they lived close enough
im going crazy
this can’t be
@ripe valley
i was looking at footage of Dazaemon 2 and spotted the sprite tile in one video, but not another
seeing more with than without btw
wild that the 1st result was missing
looks like that was ran on an emulator
It is an emulator.
Majorly, WoL uses some emulation footage when people are using them, there are no restrictions, like with the speedruns.
That's why when looking up footage, you have to specifically look for original hardware. Anything else you have to take with a grain of salt.
If REALLY necessary, I'm taking some old videos as reference, around 13 - 15 years ago.
Why ?
No Saturn emulator was so advanced by that time and it is sure as 97-98% is was done on an original hardware.
I'm discarding very longplays sooner than 7-8 years too if no express mention of original hardware used.
Woah. I wouldn't be surprised if he added the Batman soundboard as well now
Srg320 on a bug-squashing spree
Has Batman sound on MAME?
Hardware Original: Sega Titan Video (ST-V)
Nice! Won't need patched MRAs for those after all.
0.180? Apparently it's had sound for a long time. 😄
And those are all heavy hitters
Woah woah woah, where is Waku Waku Shinkansen
We need support for that
You and I have very different definitions of the word 'need'...
Won't those games need <rom index="0"> sections, to match the STV_MODE bitfield?
//1 - 315-5881:
Whaaaaat!? Holy moly that is bad.
it's just cheap. or maybe space-saving on the disc.
I was so sure that it was a bug. I can't believe that's the intended behavior in the game. Actually mind blowing to me!
space sometimes runs out
It's the final frontier.

STV Virtua Fighter Remix expected behavior black screen in it's current core release?
the latest unstable?
Probably not? It worked before.
MRAs probably have to be updated
have the latest MRA
no no, I mean Zakk hasn’t updated them
I haven’t updated yet, so I can look at the previous unstable. you doing single or dual ram, hyper? I can’t remember
Robby can breath a sigh of relief! His favorite fat baby ST-V game still works!
Both mulitple misters same behavior
ok, i’ll check dual then
works ok on the previous core
lemme update
Remix working on the latest core for me
which core are you using?
I'm referring to the two patched MRAs that were posted earlier.
I like that one a lot.
They did send me a free review unit though just FYI.
But I really really like using it with anything it fits well with.
You also have home buttons on it that you can use to open up the MiSTer menu.
I need to try the M30s next. I'll probably order them in soon.
Seems like Radiant Silvergun freezes after you insert a coin then hit the start button with the latest ST-V build. Can anyone else confirm? I've seen another report on the misterfpga board: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?p=95990#p95990
The MRA files have to be updated for certain titles
Wait for the updated mras, and then check again.
Is there an ETA on when the STV stuff gets put into Update All?
up to srg320
if you’re here, you likely not the kinda guy who needs to wait for that
Thanks again!
Weeee! The new MRA release fixes Radiant Silvergun, thanks @warped saddle !
Curious to know if there are any changes to the Batman Forever kick issue.
Sorry, Batman still can't kick
Thanks.
Batman can't even turn his head
hitting a CRT with a hammer seems like a potential bad time...
I can just guess how that worked.
critter crusher doesn't even work without the 'hammer'
I think mame implements it as a lightgun tho, so maybe there is hope
(then you can all play it exactly one time and never bother with it again)
Hi folks what should i name the bios ?
I find those special input arcade games very interesting. Like that Irem penalty simulator where you were supposed to hit a real ball.
boot.rom
You need stvbios.zip. Merged sets are preferred, but split should also work.
wait, what bios you on about?
NEW PFP!
the stv bios
then don’t rename nothing
keep the zip as is in the mame game folder
You dont rename it boot.rom then
stv.bios is ok as i renamed it?
What files do you have in the bios package ?
asking the real questions
what if it's fucking tied to the sound chip
that would be amazing
check DM
So what is happening in die hard arcade that causes it to lose sync so much? Doesn't look like a resolution switch, and my tink4k doesn't have any issue with it
480i 240p
there’s a patch to stop it iirc
I've updated my part of the compatibility list.
I don't think that's it because the tink would tell me
Either way, I hope Kuba is able to get that sync on 480i option in the core. It's great on the PSX
I will try to work on it , yesterday I started a new job and I have a lot on my mind now
Good luck with the new job.
Likewise, so much on my mind and not enough for the project at the moment.
it is the lowest of lowest priority duder. I'm glad you got a new gig (I'm pretty sure you mentioned that already but my brain is gravy at this time in the afternoon)
Thanks guys, I've had a little more time for a few weeks and I've implemented probably everything I can for core for now, the other stuff needs more time and I need to find it
Saturn core feels like it's done and in maintenance mode for me. Amazing work from everyone that contributed. I'm just enjoying playing all these games!
(and I'm on the single build)
everyone here contributes something cool , testing, talking about games, compiling cores, introducing new code, etc. It's great and a beautiful thing.
I've learned a lot in recent times and understand more things this is already a reward for me 🙂
This is a feel good core
Feeling of accomplishment for many contributors here.
Well done everyone!!
The only remaining thing I think I would want from the core is 3D controller style analog stick and triggers for any USB controllers, but I'm perfectly fine with the SNAC route if it doesn't come to pass (since so few games use it).
Oh good luck!
request motion to move ST-V to it's own thread
im betting on that it's waiting for some sort of cue from the sound board
game asks the audio dsp if it is ok to kick
kick physics so intense it is offloaded
the sound card also does PHYS-X
I'm here AND lazy.
The core isn't ready until you could export/import your save file on an external USB floppy drive and use the Word processor on the machine.
😏
Batman is going to kick, and then we will get a 3DO core? God truly loves us
...and Robin!
It's the only thing he's got going for him.
lets not get greedy
A whole daughterboard necessary to strengthen the kick power
Maybe it's missing the Kick harness...
It's easy to miss. It's hidden behind a kick panel on the cab...
Is there any word if cheat support will be added to the Saturn core eventually?
saturn core is done. we are a 3DO core now
I wouldn't mind that either lol
Analog triggers would be a major addition to MiSTer main, not the core itself. It’s been requested but currently unknown if it’ll ever be added. Outside of Saturn and one or two arcade games there isn’t a case for it.
It would also be useful for the PSX NeGcon games
what's the first console that had 2x analog sticks AND analog triggers?
is it technically the psx negcon?
Ohhhh that’s good, I’ll add that to my list when I pester Sorg about it again.
Not quite - NeGcon has no sticks and only one analog trigger
but it has two analog buttons and the twist axis
I guess the better way to word it: what's the first console where you need more than 4 analog axes?
PS2? Every button is pressure sensitive!
I think it's Saturn's Dual Mission Stick?
what the hell is that thing
Yeah? It’s twin sticks but what are the other analog axis?
The dial on top of each stick
It’s when you buy two mission sticks and slap them on both sides of the central unit. I think like one or two games even supported that unique configuration.
but are they a single controller or is it two and the game deals with it being 'one'?
Saturn SMPC represents it as one controller, iirc
imo the motivation for analog triggers isn't just the number of axes; it's the ability to arbitrarily map an analog axis from your controller into the core. Like, even though the NeGcon has only four axes, you cannot map a gamepad's analog triggers to any of those axes, since the analog mapping is stick-based
It’s a super cool idea imo. I also like they you can freely mount the analog stick on either side for left/right handed people.
no, I know it's mostly a mapping issue, it's more that I'm trying to sus out if we can get like 99% of the way there with minimal core changes
Has anyone ever made a circle out of those
I think "like 99%" is accurate, yeah
Here my mission stick
if someone knows how to map a modern controller to provide “virtual” dual mission functionality i’ll be forever grateful
The only other thing I can think of besides the Dual Mission that would support more than 4 axes would be weird joysticks in the PC cores
but actually I can't think of any of those with more than 4 axes, either
What games use the dial on top?
I should try it out, I used the mission stick with space harrier and it was great
Probably something mechy
Virtual On ?
Panzer Dragoon Zwei appears to be the only game that supports Dual Mission
Ah, yes.
Virtual-On and Bulk Slash use the other twin stick - the digital one
Virtual on uses the twin stick just, pretty much nothing uses the dual
Yeah I have that one, love it
but maybe some of the japanese mech games use the little wheel thing?
the little dial on top of the mission stick might be used in Stellar Assault
which has had an absolutely deluxe fan translation with voice acting and everything
The throttle wheel is only used in a small number of the games though, and in some cases, such as MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat, native 3D Control Pad support avoiding the wheel is still an option.
The Mission Stick, called the Analog Mission Stick (アナログミッションスティック) in Japan, is an analog flight stick for the Sega Saturn.
It's possible PD Zwei doesn't use the wheels, and we 100% don't need more than four axes
does reflex convert the dual mission to a regular dual stick? might be the only way to use it for more than PDZ
Noooooooo, we need save states like the PSX core 🙂
Haha I knew something like that was coming.
That's what she said...
Damn all of that?
Phew glad it was that one
Didn’t even notice the update til just now
What was wrong with Final Fight revenge? Played and captured it. Didn’t have any issues 🤷🏻♂️
Been busy doing end of the year rush things but
Is Grandia still silicon lottery dependent for the single core?
yeah. seems to be an issue with the ddr. srg was finally able to reproduce it by slowing his ddr clock speed down
Nice to see it’s mostly a non issue then
Hey~
all I want to do is report this photo as inappropriate 🤣
ナイス スティック indeed😉
Is that a japanese baguette in your pocket or are you just excited about the sega saturn
Did main branch just get updated with all the latest Saturn nightlies? I see "Saturn fixes (srg320)" on Sorgelig's post
I thought that was just about updates to Main
Main was updated recently to fix disc reading for the SEGA Saturn core, so I'm assuming that is what it's referring to.
Your mission's WHAT
Now arcade cheats is supported in official Main, are cheats planned for S-TV? What would the process be for supporting those?
Not sure if it helps, but here is the PR with a bit of information and an example: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/pull/969
Yesterday I was desperately trying to research the differences between Tecmo World Cup 98 (ST-V), Tecmo World Cup Millennium (???) and Tecmo Super Shot Soccer (PsX). I cannot remember the last time when any research was less successful.
I still don't know which arcade system runs Tecmo World Cup Millennium. Or supposed to run it. Maybe it was canceled?
I guess at that point of time PES and FIFA had killed off any competition already and nobody cared anymore about other football games.
Probably Tecmo World Cup 98 is their last Arcade soccer game. They started the craze with Tehkan World Cup. It's good that we can now play the first and the last one (and get both within a few weeks).
It's basically the same as implementing cheats in a console core
Ah, so still quite involved and srg320 would need to do it in the core, got you
Should I message Sorg every thirteen minutes? Would that help?
I've opened the ST-V core for the first time, and there doesn't appear to be an option to load any games.
What am I missing?
The MRAs https://github.com/zakk4223/STV-MRA
Thank you!
Analog trigger guys are coming
It's me, I'm the analog trigger guy.
My favourite game requires the use of analog triggers.
One thing of note is that, for me, the 'cores' folder is outside of the '_Arcade' folder, yet the instructions say the former folder should be inside the latter.
it will simlink the core into your _Arcade/cores folder
arcade cores go in _Arcade/cores. I don't know why you have a 'cores' directory but that is not where the ST-V rbf goes
It won't even let me make a 'cores' folder inside '_Arcade'. It's always been outside of there, and I only noticed today.
oh that’s weird
😰
I don't understand. It's not like I moved it.
Is it not like that for anyone else?
Nope.
That is frightening.
Should I try... moving the 'cores' folder into the '_Arcade' folder?
Depends if you only have arcade cores inside (or not).
At a glance, it looks that way.
This is really odd. This entire time, it's worked fine. I had no idea my file structure was wrong.
heads up @dusty shale that could imply your sdcard is dying
might want to make a backup
Dying? I haven't even had it six months.
it is just a maybe, but it’s a distinct possibility
when it suddenly cant write, that precedes it becoming unable to read
It can write. I can add other files to it just fine. It's just particular about this specific folder.
You not using a Mac to view your SD card by any chance?
No. PC.
I didn't have a core folder in arcade either,,,, or so I
rhought
Oh well I could not see it in my file browser. But it was there when I sorted arcade by type - then it magically appeared below the other folders
I thought it was a Mac "quirk"
it is a mac quirk. it wants to sort them alphabetically. cores is always in the middle (where C is) for me
LMAO this was good
Swapping games seems much more stable now. Before I would have to remount the images and reset the core frequently, but I loaded games from different regions and file types with no issues inbetween.
yeah, haven’t really thought about it for a while
So how worth is it to purchase a 3D Pad? I've barely played Saturn before this core and atm its my favorite Mister core, but i've stayed away from Nights and Burning Rangers because i've read they're much better games with a 3D pad
Alternatively if there is a good option as a substitute
How much do you care about using analog triggers for the scant few games that support it. One of them being Sega Rally Championship.
@warped saddle , I think that your README.md needs updating: saturn.rbf --> ST-V.rbf?
"Copy the latest Saturn core RBF to /media/fat/_Arcade/cores/Saturn.rbf" ?
I do enjoy Sega Rally a lot tbh so if it does enhance that aswell its probably a good idea to pick one up
Sega Rally's contentious. Of all the 3D racing games out there, it is probably the single game whose developers put the most love into making it play well with an ordinary D-pad
play the netlink edition and try the analog controller
it’s wonderful
anyone got vampier sega saturn unstable script for both single/dual my sd card got corrupted
What script is that?
to download unstable core saturn
You just put this in downloader.ini
[unstable_nightlies_folder]
db_url = https://raw.githubusercontent.com/MiSTer-unstable-nightlies/Unstable_Folder_MiSTer/main/db_unstable_nightlies_folder.json
Or were you thinking of this?
https://github.com/davewongillies/MISTer-update_stv
nope
it was a while back someone made a script
Vampier isn't on this discord anymore
damn oh well thanks
If you want a script (rather than having update all grab them automatically) you can use the MisterAddons script: https://github.com/misteraddons/mister_unstable_updater_scripts
@frail heath You can replicate the analog stick of the 3D pad with a usb controller but not the analog triggers at this time.
Analog triggers for usb controllers might be added in the future or they may not. If they do get added there’s no timeframe available.
I cannot tell you if it’s worth purchasing a SNAC adapter, SNAC cable, and a Saturn 3D control pad just for using analog triggers. That’s for you to decide.
I can decide for them. Get on that Saturn 3D controller with SNAC! Join us! Join the Saturn 3D controller collective!
i've 100% nights into dreams with the 3D pad in my Saturn a few years back, it seems a bit rough, but works well and i found it confortable, in my opinion
Thanks for the info! I already have the SNAC adapter so i'll just buy the 3D controller. I'm starting to run into storage issues with all these controllers
You have ascended into true MiSTer gaming. We collect controllers here.
That's true.
Sorry , where can I read STV installation instructions ? Again my core is not working cause I used the update all script
Ty
Make sure to have a rather new romset for the ST-V bios. If it is the bios from the romset 2.57 (?) or older, there are files missing and you will get error messages.
Good point, I’ll add that info. Thank you!
0.258 was the first ROMset to feature the file "epr-23603.ic8".
I checked the net
@warped saddle , maybe worth adding to your README.md as well
Also messing with ST-V a bit, I saw that the 240p patch for Die Hard Arcade fixes the synch issues for the CD version but is there a path to do the same with the mame ROM? Or is it more of a matter of that not really being a version worth playing so such a patch is a low priority?
Die Hard Arcade ST-V rocks out the box. 💪
Yep.
#1046941029296779344 message
For me I get massive synch issues during the resolution changes with the mra/mame ROM
add [st-v] vsync_adjust=0to your MiSTer.ini
I have an alt .ini file that does exactly that for compatibilty testing but that's not the setting I would use for general usage, obviously buffering it will solve such problems
I just want to make sure, if I drop the unstable saturn.rbf in my _consoles folder, I don't need to put the ROMs in a different folder right? That unstable core will look in the same place as the update_all core?
Update on yesterday's file system tomfoolery.
I tried a different FTP client.
There is now a 'cores' folder within '_Arcade' (as there should be), but there is also what looks like a shortcut to 'cores' in /media/fat.
cores in /media/fat and cores in /media/fat/_Arcade should be their own directory, not a shortcut no I'm actually wrong
I really don't know why this is happening, nor why this seems to have only ever happened to me.
I have never touched this folder before.
Actually I just checked my Mister:
/media/fat# ls -l|grep cores
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root root 24 Sep 20 18:40 cores -> /media/fat/_Arcade/cores
It is a symlink/shortcut
So mine is fine?
Well you haven't said where its a shortcut to but if its a shortcut to /media/fat/_Arcade/cores then it should be fine
It appears to be that, yes.
I can't seem to map my Retro-bit Saturn Pro Controller correctly with the Saturn core. It doesn't seem to pickup the "z" button. I've tried both in D-Input and X-Input mode, and updated the firmware for the controller and the USB dongle. Any thoughts?
Did you use the favorites script?
I have in the past.
It does that.
It’s to facilitate adding an arcade MRA as a favorite in the main menu.
MRAs only know that they’re in the same directory structure where the arcade cores folder is located. So if you sym link an MRA to a new folder it’ll auto sym link the arcade cores folder too.
So it’s not just you, it’s probably everyone who’s used the Favorites script. You’re just the only one who’s noticed and posted about it here.
Delete your controller config and try again.
How do I perform that?
media/fat/config/inputs - I think that’s the folder name
Look for controller inputs labeled “Saturn”
Same issue. I found a few copies of the file, deleted all of them, but it's still not taking the "Z" button
Maybe it's because I read somewhere the Z + C buttons are mapped to the L+R s?
Yeah, could be a problem with the controller itself
ugh, what a stupid / weird problem
I was able to get it, but I'm really questioning whether or not to keep this
Try it on your PC first to confirm it
Mystery solved! Thank you!
When accessing over FTP, I recommend using SFTP, it allows managing the symlinks, very useful whenever creating/deleting a link is needed.
Also if you use FileZilla set transfer to binary
I just downloaded FileZilla today. I was using Cyberduck prior.
scp gang rise up!
Winscp here.
I like WinSCP because I know how to make symbolic links with it lol
noobs, windows command line ftp for the win
Now that the Saturn and STV are split, when might we see separate chats?
I think the decision around that was that it didn’t make much sense to do
there isn’t going to be much more development on either (SRG is going to implement the sound chip for batman…and then STV is basically done?). STV is kind of an add-on anyway, not really its own thing
Oh, did SRG confirm he was going to do the Batman sound chip?
soon, batman will kick again
RAX
#MBKA campaign
who needs kicks when you have acid trip power up lightning mode lol
bat cycle accurate
Needs a cheat to make him kick like Superman.
🤣 wtf is that atomic dong kick from?
I guess that Batman in this incarnation is quite OK as a game. It's infamous for its horrid SNES and MegaDrive ports. In my opinion the arcade version is a nice game for some short chunks of silly arcade action.
Bro, that hurts just looking at 🤣
The shockwave really drives it home. 😏
Good news: An RPG that was on the Saturn is now available on modern consoles! Bad news: It's a remaster that lacks practically everything that made the Saturn version unique! I explain how Suikoden HD Remaster is disappointing to Saturn fans in my new story:
Yeah, that's disappointing. I've been having fun with the Switch version though.
Suikoden I & II are two of my favorites games of all time, and I had no idea there was a Saturn port of the original that included extra content!
yeeeeep
Bit of a SotN situation; bit of a rough port in places (not as bad as SotN though) but some nice little extras added
Both from Konami, not coincidentally
Yep. In both cases the original version was done by KCET studio, while the Saturn ports were done by the Nagoya and Sapporo studios. And what's really weird is how late the Saturn port of Suikoden was released..
Anyways, Suiko II is one of my top-5 games ever but I never finished the first one. Maybe it's time I did it now.
Playing Suiko I & II together is lots of fun due to the crossovers. You get more Viktor and Flik, etc
Is there an English translation for the Saturn versions?
The hell is a Suikoden, some sort of Pokémon?
It's obviously the Doom 2016 of Pokémon.
it's the game where you push boxes around
It was the best series of the early aughts only because I got to listen to my Gamestop DM try to pronounce it
no, sadly, not yet
2 all time classics right there
what order should i play them in
Start with Mother 3
I'd start with Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete.
I'd start with liberating those unused suikoden copies from robby's claws
probably more were those came from
there's a rumor he possesses a prototype of the unseen sudokuden III
I'm excited for STV Core like all of you, Testing it brings so much joy since i'm also an avid arcade PCB collector. I can safely store these for safe keeps.
He has Magic Knight Rayearth! ||And so do I!
||
Has anyone ever played the Suikoden game on the DS?
I really enjoyed that one.
Suikoden Telekenesis?
Tierkreis.
Zodiac.
What other boards you have stashed away?
Too many to list, started on a cart, now fills a closet
now have a dedicated floor for my arcade 🙂
sample of some of my PCB's, mostlys entimental growing up.
Haha gotta keep a list
You are the 2D collector to my 3D collector
I do somewhere
Meanwhile I just picked up a Taito Type Zero (not type X variant) of battle gear 2. 603e PowerPC based with custom Taito designed 3D hardware
Yea, pandemic was an exciting time lol
I'm happy to see Mister take on arcade classics.
means i no longer need to connect these and swap games instantly
i will 100% keep these
man, those boards in display cases are so nice looking
You are def neater. My shits either in priority boxes or in the big metal cages they lived in 🤣
Nice! Battle Gear is a fun game, looking forwad to a video on it soon
End goal is to convert it to a Stunt Typhoon Plus
Its a work of art to me. function and form.
I love it. I wish I had room for stuff like that
I worked with Highflow in NL with measurements for many of their cases.
Game PCB's, Cases & Accessories kopen bij HighFlow.nl. Voor iedere gamer een gewenst model. HighFlow levert alles voor arcade. ✅ Gratis verzending va €150 ✅ Altijd Euroknallers
At one point it filled our whole condo, wife was not impressed
lol
since then we have a much larger place and dedicated floor out of the way.
Im convinced Video Game Esoterica has a dedicated house for all his arcade boards. 🙂
Haha I do not sadly
I wish I had the cash for that kinda thing
Love your videos bro, watch you every night.
Gotta get on my level and make inappropriate comments on all his videos that Youtube deletes!
Wow this is wild
Do you service anything yourself on the pcbs?
Recaps and things like that
That would be one of the most appealing aspects to me - Doing Repair and restore before putting them into the final plastic sandwich
Go over with magnification and learn stuff
Depends on the severity yes. The one's i've sent out have been CPS2 and CPS3 so far due to the suicide batteries
Yea that's the goal for each PCB, they are cleaned and 100% functional before display cases
nice axunworks gun. i have one too; best supergun ever
That's the one.
Since you work on CPS, do you know of any replacements for the A-01
I send out CPS 2 and 3 out to Ben ifixretro. As for your A-01 customer chip q. No replacements aside from salvaging another. In theory one could reproduce them now that we schematics from FPGA studies from Jotego.
I see
You can follow this thread on Arcade projects.
Hello,
The CPS1 from Capcom, as we all know, was a great system, host of many glorious games from the late 80s/early 90s such as Ghouls'n Ghosts, Final Fight... And Street Fighter II of course!
It's also infamous for its custom chips having a very high failure rate, with no replacement as of...
thanks!
New dumped STV games for @burnt matrix
https://github.com/mamedev/mame/commit/8ee55f21e7e89c3a069d5fff6b3677828d14fe84
TWIN STICK EX SPOTTED
I should tease him with my new board
It plays TWO train games @burnt matrix
I am just glad @patent ingot exists here now. The arcade board idiots are growing in numbers! There are TWO of us now. Domination is complete 🤣
how much is a MERCS board these days?
$200-300. Depending on where. Maybe a touch cheaper on eBay if it’s a bid auction that ends at a weird time
I wouldn’t pay over $250 personally
It’s common. It’s not Street Fighter or a big Capcom franchise. So it’s not all that valuable
There is one BIN for $350. Which is at the high end IMO
thanks
I'm trying to figure out if 120 bucks for an A-01 is worth it
it's got a broken tile layer iirc
Coin flip. If you can fix it solid price. If it’s fucked in other ways maybe not
yeah
I have a lot of “good deal” problem pcb’s in the closet haha. Has X wrong with it. Fix x…and then something else is fucked. Suddenly a “good deal” becomes an albatross
Common I’ll buy with issues and repair. Rare boards I want working. Because 9/10 times nobody has ever fixed them and I end up doing the research and writing the procedure and I have to go in blind
yeah
I was lucky with the Sonic Wings, I just had to reseat a chip
sadly I replaced N chips already before finding that
but hey, practice
Haha in the end if it boots it’s a win
This damn Cobra board is my white whale currently
I am trying to link up with UoC dept of engineering to see if some students want to look at it as a project. So I can get access to their x-ray machine. See if any BGAs have cracked or gone cold under the gpu chips
what a headache
I hate the board haha. If it wasn’t one of six left known to exist I’d give up
Six are known about. One works. So I feel compelled to try and improve those numbers if I can
Imagine buying specialized hardware just to play video games. Couldn’t be me!
I’m having a “crisis” right now with specialized hardware
Out of “time” ?
I have a Teraburst pcb I CAN convert to Gradius IV and just use JVS to play with a stick
Or I can purchase expensive lightgun, camera and IR sensors to play Teraburst
Converting to Gradius IV is “free” but I kinda suck at it and it’s on PS2
Teraburst is awesome and I love the game but it’s gonna run me well over $300 and forever to find all the parts
Plus the setup time to even play
TL;DR - collecting specialized control arcade boards sucks propane
Are you speaking in tongues?
I spoke to your mother in tongues last night
lmao goddamnit that one was really good 🤣
you keep walking into them 😭
@burnt matrix walks into them, his mother backs up into them
I’m actually a good friend and I set him for it
Anyone else notice a bug on the latest single ram unstable build with Sega Ages: OutRun where the graphics are scrambled?
yes confirmed
Ah, shoot...
Yeah
ancient Athenian quote
“The DualSDRAM users play what they can, and the SingleSDRAM suffer what they must"
they had a chance, but decided to use their high frequency noise generators
Testing the new core 3-04 and new MRAs from 4 days ago
almost everything works
love the bob/weave for deinterlacing
bob looks a lot better for certain games over HDMI
the core is in great shape. I updated the google sheet. moved a few games from bootable to playable, as the decompression chip fixed things up
i always enjoy reading that cores are "in great shape". it must mean they work out a lot.
Do we have analog shoulder buttons support through USB yet?
no
How hard can it be?! <looks at input.cpp> 🧐
Hi i have a screen corruption on astra superstar st-v game
I m using latest unstable core st-v and latest mra files
Normal. You can used a patched file. It’s part of the security
It’ll stop being corrupted when Srg finishes that work. Unless he already did and I didn’t noticed? Things move FAST lately
Elan Doree has garbage graphics too due to this
I believe Darksoft sets fixed this issue as they don’t appear on my multi using those files
ah ok thanks i thought it... im just downloading darksoft romset.
srg320 already added the copy protection on the last release.
So, it should work with the v9 MRAs from Zakk and the regular ST-V set from MAME.
No need of patched or special MRAs anymore.
ignore what you just read
follow what Zet has posted
regular roms, latest core and mre
dual ram if possible
Yes. The MRAs aren't designed to be used with Darksoft ROMs. Use MAME ROMs.
I'm excited to see Tecmo World Cup 98 working for STV, I played that a lot in the arcades when I was a kid. Unfortunately it seems to have some slowdowns from time to time, which I don't remember happening in real hardware. Could this be related to memory limitations with the single ram core, or something that could be reasonably expected to be fixed in the future? In any case, being able to play the game again is truly awesome, so many memories
Did you tried with the fast timings enabled ?
darksoft roms are not zipped and files are named differently
i use normal mame roms and rma from web
mra sorry
Haha hence my caveat of “maybe already fixed”. I have not been keeping up this week
Ah, not yet, I will give it a try thanks 🙏
Die hard arcade on my saturn core has no music, any ideas?
Saturn version or ST-V version?
saturn
Using latest unstable core and latest main?
yeah, just updated
your game is getting music? here i got only sound effects
The last time I tried the game I am sure I had music
Redump image? Multi-bin or CHD?
just like you,i am sure i had music too last time i tried 🤣
I am in front of my mister, let me look
So this is a recent bug? I am doing an overnight shift at work so I cannot test.... and just as I was about to ask if anyone can confirm TheJesusFish comes to the rescue 🙂
i don know, just tried a couple of nightlies and the last stable, no music, only in this game
and the fox studio music plays at the start, it wont play during the game
Interesting.... let's wait for TJF to run a test and get back to us and when I am home from work tomorrow I will also test it as I would like to see this for myself as well
lets wait for Jesus to come back
Jesus saves
Working in both single and dual ram for me. latest unstable, redump bin/cue
Amen
lol
wow could not be better, so.. i think ill get another rom
obv no music when it’s doing the demo in attract mode
Thanx for your time , really, there must be a lot of ppl asking for your help, i feel the luckiest guy @celest lake
bah, easy enough to quickly test 🙂
We live to help people here, when I am not working I will test anything I see people needing help with 🙂
but you know..all the ppl in the world needs you, or thats what they think 😋
But as I am working I could only really ask you the questions to see if there was a way I could help without being next to my MiSTer
by the way, thats my rom
grab a redump image
Is that a scene release?
i have no idea, it has been there for aaaages, i just dont recall it not having music
Redump is the best images to have as they are true 1:1 copies of the games
cool, just grabbed one and try, brb
Cool let us know your results 🙂
Not being sarcastic or snarky but what the hell were people doing before?
Who knows what the scene does they could come patched with stealth patches to bypass mod chip detection etc
Ohhhhh yeah good point.
Man, just even 10 years ago it feels like the Wild West of emulation lol.
Thank goodness there’s so much effort to keep things organized and clean now.
Lol I know right, crazy how times change 🙂
Just tested, works perfectly, thx again guys
ill have this rom on my fenrir and saroo too lol
🙂 good to know
aaaaand..the rom i just downloaded was already there (saroo)
Hahaha always the way 🙂
just tried this, seems like the slowdowns are still there (they happen particularly when making "special" moves)
I loaded it up but I am not familiar enough with it to detect slowdowns 😦

Might not be worth filing since it is likely a ram timing thing. Zet and Kuba would know for sure (if we should file it)
For any Stunner / Virtua Gun users out there, I just wanted to share that the MagicTrashman trigger mod is well worth the time and money.
Easy mod with press fit parts and two wires to solder. I also added AA batteries for weight and a ring inside the trigger spring for stability. Feels like an arcade light gun now. Highly recommended!
time to get another ram stick maybe 😄 thanks for looking into it
Wait, dual ram is a thing AGAIN now?
since about 6 months ago
time to give taki his blood money
Wow that guy loves STV look at those fancy setups
Bless his heart
I had a die hard board for a while but I sold to a friend like a dozen years ago so I’m happy it’s coming around
Not sure it's worth risking leaking batteries just to add weight to the gun. It's sort of 'insult-to-injury' to have batteries that are not even connected to anything leaking acid inside your 30 year old lightguns. Maybe just get some weights on Amazon or Ebay or something.
This is what I was thinking, why not just regular weights like from a mouse or something
I guess easier to mount the batteries
They aren’t alkaline batteries so I’m not super concerned about it. I’ll probably pop it open again soon to add wheel weights anyway. Planning on painting it because the color is loud haha
You can also grab the Japanese version, which is pretty cheap and comes the way I take my coffee. Black.
And smelling of smoke
I wonder if I can get the Easter Bunny to bring me a Retrotink 4k
Yea I’ve been planning on grabbing another to dual wield anyway. Got this one local for cheap. 🙂
Changed also timing in fast....
I on last mra and core
But not last main unstable
You could and should consider the Morph. I had mine a good few months now and It gets better with every update.
Although I have to say if I could afford the 4k I'd get it for TATE. Though that is coming to morph at some time in the future though the devs do say it's not a priority ATM.
If you not bothered about TATE then I guess the new tink CE is the way to go. More expensive than the morph though. I'm currently rediscovering PS2 in 4K on my morph via passthrough on OSSC.
STV capture time again
makes me feel old haha
Playing Panzer Dragoon with turbo fire on one of the buttons makes playing it on the MiSTer a much less tiring experience
i would kill for super high res scans
Like, how many people we're talking
a lot of the panzer dragoon concept art is so evocative to me, i dunno why
if I were to have access to high res scans and had a target in mind... your thoughts?
Sorry if this has been asked a billion times but is there currently a way to rotate the screen on the STV version of Shienryu?
first of all, don't apologize. We love helping people here. Secondly I don't know.
lol
I appreciate it!
Out of what I’ve played so far the STV version of shienryu has the most dramatic graphical improvement from the Saturn version.
But its sideways on my screen 😔
perhaps... your screen is sideways
I’d love one of those Tate rotating monitors but not in the cards for me atm
You flip your CRT like an arcade operator
All Saturn and Titan games don't offer TATE support yet. I heard that someone other than srg320 is working on improving that situation. But no guarantees that it can be done and when it is finished 😉
But it is worked on.
Thanks for the info!
At the moment all 30+ Tate games would need a manual rotation of your monitor counter clockwise. Screen flipping like on the PSX core would help all of us that can just rotate clockwise.
And showing Tate games in higher vertical resolution in a horizontal setup would help all those who cannot rotate at all.
Let's see what's in the cards.
The Saturn version is identical when playing in tate mode
(Which will of course also be displayed in the wrong orientation.. but like with most console games with a tate mode it can be configured to use a rotated control setup for those who aren't true enough to rotate their screens)
Is there an easy way to populate the ST-V rom games? I already have the latest MAME ROMset
Wondering if there is a script or something
I can't remember, but aren't they just in a folder in mame? or do they have the stv prefix?
I remember it was real easy to pull them out
I just searched for "st-v mame rom set" and dropped the results of that into games/mame
I did briefly think about adding it to update_stv but decided against it since its easy enough to find the ROMs, something something you must only use your legally obtained ROMs something and once everything becomes stable it'll probably all get handled by update_all
You need to obtain them from the MAME Software List ROMs set. Those are separate from the main MAME ROMs set. The games exist in a subfolder named stv.
The stvbios.zip file exists in the main MAME ROMs set though.
Which version did they move the stv stuff into Software Lists? I have seen many of the same names in the main romset
I'm not sure. All I know is that when I copied the ROMs from the Software List stv folder to ..\games\mame\ on MiSTer (which contains the latest 0.275 ROMs), nothing was overwritten.
I do have a record vinyl of the game and it includes some art in hi rez, full page size. I just don't have a large enough digital scanner.
That’s pretty badass
Want it for the shaders 🙂
I've wondered how the shaders are on the morph but there's no videos I could find showing them off
Is it possible to use MRA files to launch different games for this core?
That's how ST-V games are launched.
yup, that's why I'm asking lol
It's not just possible, it's a requirement. 😉
The pinned comments should point you in the right direction to get everything set up properly.
I got the ST-V games going earlier this evening
I guess I don't understand the question then...
Can I create MRA files for saturn games?
instead of having to select the core, then each file, etc
Ah, not that I'm aware of. Saturn images are loaded from the core's menu, like all the other console cores.
you can use MGL tho, i think
to launch games directly
haven't tested it with Saturn yet but it works with most popular cores
DID SOMEONE SAY MGL??!(!;!2!/!:
MGLs are so goated...
MAJOR GOATED LEAGUE
I use MGL to launch Saturn games because I am too lazy to select the core and then select a game
Yah one second
Yep. Ask Robby for them.
Robby is the goat of MGLs.
Modular Goat Launchers
Called Games Database
I make them manually by just copy pasting an existing one and changing what file it loads
Or use Favorites
i love MGLs because it really opens up a lot of room for customization. you can have it use a unique configuration, or share one with the main core, and the same with using the main directory or its own one
so any game with a funky one-off config, now you don't have to juggle anything
just load one file and bang you're back where you were with everything configured
Yeah, because I am lazy (sensing a trend?) I use MGLs for my lightgun games to load a core with the lightgun config preset and ready
There is so much cool stuff going on in this community. I just wish it was a little easier to navigate / know what's going on
the documentation is generally rather good https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/advanced/mgl/
It’s made by programmers which has huge benefits (everything is open an extensible) but also downsides like there’s a lot of learned knowledge and secret options.
Ohh I gotta update it for Saturn + Jaguar
as usual in these sorts of projects, functionality can get out ahead of documentation, esp with bleeding edge stuff
but it is really quite good overall now, lots of great examples in the documentation
credit to the contributors for that
being in this discord is also really the best way to keep up with the new stuff. discord's search tools are kind of abhorrent unfortunately, but you can usually find great info if you kludge your way through their search tools
I'm pretty familiar with open source projects, git/github, software development etc... I work in it lol
Thanks for the heads up on all of this though
I learned Linux and made a GitHub account thanks to this stupid project
I’m in way too deep!
Nice, always happy to have more people who can understand bash
I am the Kinux Ling!
linux rots your mind. use a sensible OS like macOS
I'm all multi-platform. I have one PC which multiboots into windows/linux and a few macs and the nas i have runs on Linux
noooo it must all be fruit based
-- macusers
yo, that’s neat, can they go in the favorites folder?
i’ve used favorites before but it never preset the controller for that specific game
When was the last official Saturn core released?
Whatever we got pinned - #1046941029296779344 message
Oh that’s pretty recent
I thought it would be from last year
Usually it have taken a while until the official is updated
Haven’t been very active here lately. I noticed interlaced mode is implemented yay! What else is left for the core to get 100% status?
Speaking as someone who dips in and out occasionally to check progress, you could convince me it already is 100%. I think that’s going to be the experience of most casual users at this point
Speaking as someone who mostly plays SF Zero 3, Panzer Dragoon 2, and who occasionally dares himself to comprehend Nights
Depending on who you ask it’s already 100%
It doesn’t support some mpeg card and to be frank it’s not high priority at all
Uhhh, it doesn’t have cheats but I’m personally not bothered at all by that
Some fringe bugs left to squash and improved ST-V support is all that’s really left.
Community has been pretty incredible at cataloging everything - https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Saturn_MiSTer/issues
Sega Saturn for MiSTer. Contribute to MiSTer-devel/Saturn_MiSTer development by creating an account on GitHub.
Interesting. How would the implementing the mpeg card even work. I mean it was a physical peripheral after all
Probably replicating it in the FPGA and since the core has basically filled up the de10 nano and I think only one game used it (Lunar) it’s probably never happening on MiSTer
One game requires it. Quite a few games use it
including one of my absolute favorites, Vatlva
Ohhhh ok, I’m full of shit. Sorry about that.
What’s the game that requires it?
it's OK, it can be hard to keep everything straight
Probably in much the same way the Sega CD and Sega 32X are implemented in the old Genesis core. Those were peripherals, too.
the one you mentioned, Lunar's MPEG version
there's also a non-MPEG version of Lunar
Oh duh, oops lol
I’ll look up the list of games that benefit from it
Thanks for chiming in!
Ohhh that’s the super cool car battler Joe like game. Well it was first but that’s the only thing I can compare it to.
I want my cute babes from Wangan Dead Heat.
MPEG card games:
- Chisato Moritaka disc
- Falcom Classics 1 (disc 2 of limited edition)
- GunGriffon 1 (JPN version only)
- Lunar Silver Star Story complete MPEG version (vcd card required)
- Moon Cradle
- Sakura Taisen Hangumi Tsuushin
- Sakura Taisen Nekki Radio Show (Steam Radio Show)
- Vatlva
- Wangan Deadheat + Triangle Love
I have physical copies of Wangan and Lunar complete :0)
And there’s a JVC card that lets you use photo cds and video cds. Paging @hallow fossil .
The second CD of Wangan is just some clips of chicks sitting in sport cars
Lunar complete on the other hand requires the MPEG card. It won’t load otherwise
you don't need the JVC version to play video CDs, just photo CDs
That settles it then. MPEG card needs to be priority.
Get rid of SNAC support if you have to!
video CDs were the main purpose of releasing the Video CD Card in the first place
I would say MPEG card is worth implementing in order to play Lunar complete. Probably the best version of the game
The PS1 version?

PSP
Saturn > PS1 version
sorry it’s a running gag of mine, I just say the PS1 version is always better with zero basis in reality
I'd like to point out that there’s a patch that improves Lunar's cinematics to be almost VCD quality without needing the card https://segaxtreme.net/threads/is-there-a-lunar-sss-patch-that-obviates-the-need-for-the-mpeg-card.25406/
Hi. New guy here. I've started listening to the Shiro! podcast and the hosts mention in one of the early episodes that you don't really need the MPEG card for Lunar, because there is a patch that adds high quality video to the non-MPEG card version of the game. But I can't find info on this...
someone will always correct me, it never fails lol
...at least for the time being. 😉
https://blog.playstation.com/2024/09/24/lunar-remastered-collection-launches-on-ps5-and-ps4-spring-2025/
Too bad more games didn’t implement the MPEG card. Would have had much better quality of movie clips
Woah what the hell, that’s awesome!
yep
I was almost sure that Danthrax will talk about it.
True but it’s not 100 % as good
life isn't perfect, I guess
@winter phoenix is Sega Senpai
Two of my all-time favorite RPGs.
Yeah I asked the guy and he said it’s not fully as good quality as with the mpeg card 😦
One day I’ll play Lunar
The priority now is to fix some regressions on the last unstable and verify 2-3 things on the ST-V side.
probably gonna be as disappointing as the “remastered” Grandia
I think I’ve bought every release since PS1 going “one day I’ll play it”
Ohhhhhh it wasn’t that bad! ||was it?||
I wouldn’t bet on it lol
Game designers make the weirdest decision when updating old games
it looks downgraded and like some of the soul was lost
keeping us out of recession
One day I’ll play Grandia!
have you had any chance to look into the Twin Mission SNAC ?
rather does anyone besides me have a Twin Mission setup?
just a single mission peasant here
Yeah, there is a small difference but it’s close. The most noticeable difference is videos don’t use the full screen.
I have a single mission stick and a virtual on stick
one of the best things (i hope) the mister core will bring to the masses will be simple dual mission via modern controller.
PDZ deserves more folks experience its ultimate form
That would be cool!
One stick moves dragon the other stick aims reticle?
yep
very cool
I’d buy another mission stick but I need a Saturn Densha controller first
even 1 stick only is cool, extra smooth control of the reticle
Ohhhhh nice
Can you emulate twin mission stick via USB
Wondering if I can somehow get my PS1 twin analog stick to work via reflex adapt
that’s something i’m hoping for soonish
and this would be a great way to pull it off
a little more epic than just some DS5 controller
Steel Battallion controller support when
None, as I'm pretty busy with my family right now and I will need to leave for the next 15 days after tomorrow.
I have neither take a look on the CD-ROM², nor the Saturn regressions so far.
it'd be fun to use the twin mission as a dual analog on the ps1 core too, it's such a nice setup, it's a shame it only works on 1 saturn game
Omg I have that and I love it
The Xbox connection is still just USB right?
Just in a fancy shell?
yeah
you can get an adapter that replaces the existing xbox plug breakaway with plain usb
i think there's a pc driver for it?
tbh i don't think it would be that useful on mister since its so completely specific to steel batallion
one of the two sticks only has 1 axis iirc
Honestly, the PS1 version really is good. Especially if you play a patched version that fixes some of the stuff Working Designs did to it.
I also love the English voice cast in the PS1 games. And that'll never come to the Saturn version. But I fully expect to be crucified for that opinion.
hells yeah, awesome
Wow, that's impressive. Is that the original X-box controller, or a different PC version from the same era?
Xbox. I believe it was only released for ogXbox.
That's what I thought
That's ace it can be used for other things including MiSTer
@jaunty snow that may be the perfect controller for that military tank simulator arcade game you added partial support for that had a million buttons
One of the sticks only move on the X axis. So it's not possible to use it as a real "dualstick" controller
Whooooo, just finished updating my buddies Saturn core and he’s very happy with STV games!
I told him I made all the MRAs and I had trouble getting it done because some guy named @warped saddle kept asking me Linux questions.
geeze louise
the only thing i miss for saturn still is 3d pad analog trigger support (outside of SNAC), but that's a main thing, not a core thing. still... that's the most important current omission from my perspective
Yeah, I’m right there with you brother. You’re right it’s still a Saturn core omission but in my head I treat it as main only. I’ll ping Sorg about it again to see what he thinks.
@river river wrote this script to handle setting up the core in the right place and download the mra files https://github.com/davewongillies/MISTer-update_stv
That user made a cool script to update the STV core, until the Update_all gets caught up
👋 hey there, it me!
👑
I haven't used it yet, Caveat emptor
sorry sir you dropped this
@green pebble feel free to ask me any questions if you hit on any problems
Yes, it is awesome, so I wanted to share! I did leave your name there!
Thank you, I'll give it a swing later, but you made it so easy!
Oh damnit I forgot about that script. Would’ve been perfect for me too!
@burnt matrix speak for yourself man. I need those cheats in the Saturn core. I'm old man. My reflexes are the drizzling shits in 2025 I'm not beating Radiant Silvergun without a lil bit of assistance 😂
stv radiant silvergun & set the coin button to rapid fire (32ms)
True, I could do with some cheats too 🤣
“the drizzling shits”. That’s a new one to me! I’m definitely gonna use it at the next available opportunity
aka at completely the wrong time
You can modify it too
Example
I got the drizzling shits like a god damned crippled goose
Me in my 20s... I don't need to damn cheats
Me at 43?
43? No wonder your shits are drizzling. You old!
I might as well be a gamer with a cane at this point. 63??? Just bury me. It's over.

I try not to abuse em. But make em more like quality of life improvements
Extra money in an rpg...or maybe double xp to ease up on the insane grinds
Ouch. I'll be 43 on Thursday.
Look at it another way - you’re sufficiently close to retirement that soon you’ll have plenty of time to git gud so you won’t need cheats
I feel for ya buddy. It ain't fun
I'll probably die 2 weeks after retirement 😂
(I’m not that far behind you guys. Just drizzling your shits)
I work from home as is and game a ton so I can't complain to much
Better than 3 days before!
Self employment has its perks
I feel like this every time I look at my pension contributions 😂
Hahaha
Just my luck!
I know the intangible that is my luckm
It ain't good
My voice is already starting to go and my job is my voice so that's a problem. I really should've taken an insurance policy out on it and I was like naaaaah that's something a total idiot would do. Now I'm like damn I should've done that maybe
Voice actor? Radio host? Podcast host?
Phone sex operator
That one never occurred to me
Hahaha basically voice actor
People pay me to humiliate them
Been doing it for 11 years now.
I was also featured on Howard Stern a couple times!
Nice!
Was a lot of fun. Did a verbal beat down on Howard and Brutal Master
I imagine srg is at the button up phase of the Saturn core. He's put cheat support in his other cores.
Has anyone ever asked em by chance?
I think space has been pretty tight. Not sure if any of the work to separate out the STV from the Saturn core has left any room - although I suspect it’s just as full as it was before the STV stuff went in…
srg keeps cramming things into the DE10 as if it’s Mary Poppins’ bag
It sure as hell doesn't get any better at 53...
I'm all about those cheats.
I've got other shit to do! 😄
Exactly! Hey man tomorrow isn't guaranteed so I wanna finish and experience as many games as possible, and since this current generation is mostly terrible beyond belief, I'm catching up on the classics
ooo, does it work with Virtual On???
I agree, games are pretty terrible. Everything is made with Unreal engine and looks and feels the same.

Not to mention stutters the same... a wonderful Unreal Engine 'feature'.
Documentation: the bane of any developer's attention span.
No, not suited for that. One of the sticks only moves on the X axis.
I have a whole stack of iso+mp3’s burned in the closet from the SegaXtreme FTP days in the early 2000’s. Shall we bring it back? My copy of Duke Nukem has Guns N’ Roses music added in even lol. Wild Wild West days!
What the hell, that’s awesome LOL
cool
So I was like...16 maybe? at that point and I had no idea that Duke Nukem for Saturn didn't just have Guns N Roses music in it. It actually fit pretty well. Up to that point I had only played PC and the N64 version (N64 version, highly underrated!). I eventually found a bunch of different games that people swapped the music, or worse, downsampled it to where it was just awful sounding. Like 64kbps mp3. Those FTP servers were hosted by people at their house so you never really knew what you were getting. They'd break them up in 5-20MB chunks since downloading with 56k often got interrupted.
I do not miss those days at all. If someone has got into this any time in the last decade Redump is 100% the way to go.
Dude Guns ‘n Roses totally fits lol
You’re asking yourself to defend yourself?
unhinged
Gimme that Meatloaf soundtrack
I literally did a swap (or buy?) with someone else in Australia on SegaXtreme who sent me a bunch of burnt CDs. I had to use the disc swap method :/ Prior to that I managed to download the iso/mp3 of Radiant Silvergun via dial-up, which was about 10MB for the data and 300MB for the music. Took a month 😄
Awesome, don’t think the statute of limitations has expired on that crime. Enjoy spending the rest of the year with your new cellmate, Yuji Naka!!!
Have the arcade fanboys finally left? 👀
No
We will always be here
Hey, you show those arcade veterans some much needed respect. You wouldn't have the advancements in console technology throughout the decades without arcade hardware pushing it further.
Well... except ST-V. 😏
I thank you all for having deep pockets and being foolish enough to dump your money into arcade machines enough that the manufacturers realised they could make easy money off you by making it so games ended as quickly as possible 😅
(I don’t actually dislike arcade games. They just don’t click with me as much)
I can relate to that
I've come to appreciate arcade games more as I'm older and just want a quick pick up n play experience
That’s me with retro games generally - many of which are derived from arcade mechanics (or just arcade games/ports)
There was nothing quite like growing up during the 'Golden Age' of arcade games in the early-to-late '80s.
I grew up gaming with the NES and then the Genesis. Man I wouldn't change growing up in that era for anything
I was the next generation. PS1/Saturn/N64 were “my” generation
A good generation to grow up with as all
Next best thing in my opinion
The wild wild West era of gaming
My first PlayStation pretty much killed any enthusiasm to go to arcades anymore. It truly felt like the 'aracde experience' had finally come home, after so many years of broken promises.
Yeah. I hear ya. When I got my 3DO in 94 that's how I felt too
I was like ok why dump money into these now?
Well, yeah... with the exception of Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Dragon's Lair on the 3DO.
It’s funny because for me that’s why I loved that generation a lot. Felt like games got a lot deeper/story driven rather than just trying to kill you as quickly as possible (derived from arcade mechanics)
Yeah for sure
Obviously there were exceptions before that, but that generation finally felt like the generation where developers expected you to finish the game, rather then die 3 levels in
For sure
I spent COUNTLESS hours on my 3DO playing Slayer, Immercenary, Space Hulk, Star Control II
But you’re talking to the man who took ~30 years to finally beat Alex Kidd in Miracle World and Sonic 1 😅
I’m a little surprised that the 80s computers aren’t a bit more popular on here. In Britain computers were probably bigger than consoles for a long while
I feel like you had to be there 😂
STV was never on my radar, its only game I ever played in the arcades was vf remix. I had no idea at the time it was Saturn hardware.
Very vague memories for me
I’d quite love if we could get a model 1 (or 2, but I guess that’s impossible?) core
Currently Sega model 2 is my most wanted fpga core not on mister. I keep a mini PC doing emulation just for those games. With a wheel and modern lightguns. Second would be Namco System 12 for Tekken Tag and Soul Calibur.
I saw it in the theater. I don't know how why it get such hate. I think it's a fun entry in the franchise
Maybe people don't like Spock having a half brother I guess
Haha most of us were here supporting Mister during its early stage too.
I see all of you arcade old heads 💪
Tandy1000 head here! Not British but old school pc
Die hard Arcade was all over here in SoCal during that time
Yeah Die Hard was the only game I played here for STV
The Rubbermaid garbage can cabinet is memorable
They come up in FBM sometimes, you too can own a trash can with levers and buttons
So is STV ready for a stable release? I wonder if the dual sdram Saturn version will go stable as well.
Total Commodore 64/128 fanboy here. I used my C128D(CR) for almost a good 10 years... until early '96. Never had an Amiga back then though.
I think the last part is the soundboard for Batman, which is being worked on by srg320
Man that's awesome, I've been looking for a HD forever! Very clean and the disc to boot! Odd how it was a Saturn game, but not STV... seems like a miss on Sega's part!
Truly, we would never be graced with goodness like Death Crimson ever again
This makes me have tingly feelings down below
Like in your feet? Did you talk to a doctor about it?
I had that once
lost all feeling in my legs eventually
weird thing is I could still walk
I don't know how that works
stress related probably
Sensory nerves are different from motor nerves. It is difficult walking without active sensory nerves for feedback though.
Happens to me occasionally if I sit funny on a specific chair here
Oh - that’s an answer to a different question
Yeah, stress can knock nerves out
aha
yeah it went up to my groin eventually
that was unnerving, pun intended
but later subsided
very interesting and strange
Bodies are very poorly put together
maybe it's like the SATURN, multiple processing paths
Completely separate data buses
Breathing, heartbeating, digesting… all very dodgy
spleen..ing
Ew
I'm surprised you don't already have HyperDuel. Knowing all you guys from AP and Twitter, i felt I was the one catching up lol.
YEa, i agree should havve been an STV title 100%
Did Sega own Technosoft at the time?
just flow with it hahaha
Have you ever experienced the Stranger?
Yeah, I have a huge list of left to get PCBs... if you ever want to sell or trade that bad boy...
New year, new thread. I'm always looking to fill out my collection, so if you have the following for sale or trade let me know!
Bonk's Adventure: Arcade Version / Kyukyoku! PC Genjin
Deathsmiles Mega Black Label
Denjin Makai
Do-Don-Pachi Dai-Fukkatsu Black label
Do-Don-Pachi Saidaioujou
Dream...
But no, I don't think Sega owned them, for if they did, why not on STV!!! But there are other games like that too, like Elevator Action Returns on the SS, but in the arcade not on STV, rather Taito F3, even though the SS version is arcade perfect and could easiley have been on STV
Hey guys so my Saturn core doesn't load any more since the latest update all. It was working fine, haven't messed with anything. When I try to open it I get boot.rom loading and then black screen. None of my games will load, chd files, just a black screen when I try. And my other cores are working fine. Any advice? (Sorry if this doesn't belong here, new)
it sounds like the bios is bad. did you change anything there?
Try the latest unstable build.
I will keep you in mind brother. no plans to part. one of those grails
You have a wonderful list to acquire
Do-Don-Pachi Saidaioujou is one I would love to get. not for $10k asking price from others.
I'd drop that once ive fulfilled everything else hahaha
ive toyed with the idea of getting the EXA version
The Exa version is much better. I had both for a few months last year, the Exa one kills the PCB. The guy who owns Exa is an ass so I got rid of the system, but still. If you are going to spend the money, get the Exa one.
yea shoutime seems a bit much from what i see
we all are brother, if people knew how much we dive in for thee fucking pcb's
also, did you see my trade fodder at the bottom? In case I can pull that grail out of your grip...
also, I sent you a PM
I have these already:
Atomiswave Motherboard
Captain America and the Avengers
Dolphin Blue (Atomiswave cart, original not bootleg)
Mr. Driller
Spiderman the Arcade Game
This is the only one on trade id be willing to buy, not right now.
Guardians: Denjin Makai II
Soooo I have a question that I can’t find the answer to. What are the STV’s MRA files and why are they necessary?
thank you, latest unstable works
MRA files are how you launch arcade games, they describe to the Main MiSTer binary how to load the rom parts into ddr3 or sdram, and various other things
https://github.com/zakk4223/STV-MRA/tree/main/_ST-V - Zakk has them here
it's because the mame format is usually a zip file for the arcade game and a bunch of files inside representing each of the different mask roms on the board
check the pins here in this thread for links and guides
No worries, Guardians is a very good, but inexpensive PCB. Any time you are ready, hit me up. If I sell mine, I can get you another pretty cheap.
OK, so it’s an arcade game-specific thing that the MiSTer requires
What does MRA stand for? MiSTer ROM Attributes?
Maybe Robby’s American?
MRAs are mostly arcade-specific. They have found limited use elsewhere, such as the C128 core.
I’ll see your board and raise you one of three boards that arrived this week haha. Battle Gear 2
