#Sega Saturn

yeah , srg320 is working on getting rid of the bugs , everything will come in time
Oh so that's why Super Tempo doesn't work.
Only possible on MARS for sure 🙃
The sole thing that should be complex with the MiSTer should be the Video Card support.
Everything else needs time, attention and research.
People tend to not remember or even don't have the knowledge from where we came from with the Saturn emulation.
The core doesn’t seem that far off to me
It isn’t
what is already there , is a very big achievement
it will certainly get better and better
to be fair even srg isn't (or wasn't) sure its possible at the outset
he was basically like "well it better fit on the de10 cos thats what i've got" (paraphrasing)
yes of course, but I prefer to be careful and not say what is possible and what is not at this stage, I am not an fpga or Saturn expert . I prefer to wait for the final result
yeah i trust his judgement and he's still at it like, two years later so he must still think its probably possible at least
I don't pretend to be an expert but I served as a beta tester for the most Saturn SW emulators these last 20 years.
And I've seen where all the devs had to pass and understand on the architecture of the Saturn ecosystem.
What struggles and what is lacking on all implementations.
And how they surpassed their own limitations and done new discoveries + some undocumented findings.
I'll be honest, if the sound issues are sorted, this is a stable core
Currently playing through Shining force 3
Sound had less pops for me on yesterday’s build. Running dual ram.
It’s hilarious. It’s like the Saturn is an old timey record player.
From my point of view, when I check the last commits on the core, srg320 seems to search mostly on squashing the last bugs on the two VDP chips.
That's also why I'm doing mostly issue reports (and thanks also to the others here) on errors coming from those chips.
Yah, he’s focus firing on the visuals. Smart move.
For the games which can't be launched, most probably some race conditions or some specific cases to be implemented on the SCU.
From my personal experience of past beta testing phases, the SCSP chip (sound chip) is the most complex to implement in terms of efficiency and timings.
You need the rest to be in order before working on it.
And people like Steve Kwok (NOVA) or even FCare (Kronos) have focused on other chips implementations and synchro before even working on the SCSP more thoroughly.
I'm pretty confident on the core for one thing : the core could run Rayman without any hack implemented.
That game is a pretty nice test-case in itself, I had access to the source code of the game years ago and the team working on it was pure evil or old French demomakers wanting to show off their skills on a rather 'new' system.
That's also why all those 3D levels transitions and some 2D optimizations tricks on that game.
All SW emulators either can't get the game to work and the commands to respond without going completely crazy (SSF/old versions of Kronos), or without relying on specific hacks & special cases (Mednafen/Beetle, NOVA).
Sure, a scene from a single stage have a problem on vertical scrolling, but everything else just works like intended.
Pretty impressive for me, and that shows the already mature situation of the core.
About visuals, need to test Cotton 2 again. I remember that stage 2 backgrounds had some vertical tearing
MARS will also solve world hunger.
that's for sure , houses on Mars etc.
Let’s keep other FPGA talk to #fpga-platforms please. Sorry to be a stick in the mud.
Was that the only game with vertical tearing?
Only one I can remember
"Saturn wasn't built in a day"
The Saturn can be tamed
I just saw your comment on github, I just noticed corruption myself but wasn't sure how best to proceed
At the moment, we're just leaving a note there.
I don't know if we should split it with two issue reports or not, as it is also FMV-related.
exactly what I was thinking.
I briefly played my favorite Saturn hidden gem this morning
Vatlva
I am determined to make an English translation of that game this year
part of what peaked my interest, I also happen to have the vcd card
oh and I discovered https://youtube.com/shorts/GwwVcWRC_3s?si=0M1P1vtgwTl3zPMI
another Koshiro project
with a damn cool style, sadly ps1 exclusive but more folks should know this
I havent seen any negativity personally, I think people can have their own theories and expectations on what can be accomplished on the hardware, thats not negativity in my eyes
its just another ceiling that needs breaking
unfortunately cotton 2 for me hangs occasionally, enough not to be able to play for too long, of course there is also no sound but I put that aside haha
I did get to go to the stage 1 boss and confiscate his gear and then defeat him and carry him up into the sky
and then it crashed after tea time hehe
Weird
It works fine here
No crashing
yeah thats the core for ya
What hardware?
its tailored for everyones mister
I dont know, it doesnt matter, I did all the research a couple times for this forum but it doesnt seem to make a difference, I could dig up my pictures I guess
Apparently it is not compatible with that sdram
I havent seen bulletproof literature about sdram compatibility so far, so I'm leaving it aside until the core is good enough for me to bring it up as an issue
Cotton 2 from Redump set?
I think I have like 2.6?
yes redump
although there are TWO redump sets
I'll look up my ram pics and send across, but I dont want to unscrew my mister again tbh
it hasnt seemed to help in the past
I think out of the 5 or 6 people I know who have misters, everyone has a different experience with the core, so it just is what it is, im sure its SDRAM related but if at some point the core is complete and there is a "SDRAM requirement" published, I'll have to take that seriously haha
would be the only core with this, I assume, at least so far
till then I will simply wait for now, but happy to help if there is testing required of course
Two ?
yes
there are two on archive
this
and
\
this
I use the former
ahem used to BACK UP YOUR ORIGINAL SATURN DISCS THAT YOU OWN AND ALL THAT LEGAL SHIT DONT SUE ME PLEASE
2nd one is later so presumably better
There is only one set, which is not supported at all by Redump people (nor encouraged).
But two uploads on a site, okay.
Sued into oblivion. 😏
Wait what? The game consistently crashes in battles when using healing spells! It even crashes at other random times during battle.
Maybe playing some other scenario discs ?
Shining Force III - Scenario 1 - Outo no Kyoshin, Shining Force III - Scenario 2 - Nerawareta Miko, or even Shining Force III - Scenario 3 - Hyouheki no Jashinguu.

If i'm using the above build should i expect the 3d controller to work? I got one to and cant seem to get it to work.
Your core is broken 🤪
I knew it!
It does work.
Shining Force III is not for you
Me and @sudden tusk
I am currently playing Shining the Holy Ark
I heard it was very polished
sweet i will trouble shoot in my end then. Thanks
What adapter are you using? If it's the older misteraddons adapter, you need to slightly pull the controller's plug out of the adapter.
ah yeah it is from a while ago. let me give that a try
Thankfully the newer ones fixed that. I have one of the older ones and one of the newer ones.
that worked thanks
Never played Panzer Dragoon before, though now I understand why everyone likes it
You're saying that even with Dual SDRAM you think the core won't reach full game compatibility?
Should’ve written “just started with…”
Had to get the updated version of yhe translation
So it’s shinning force working ?
So JPN Scenario 1 to 3 translated into English.
This can only be known by the author of the core , when he is finished with the core we will know , I do not advise to be suggested by posts of this type.
yep the people stating this are not core devs and so have no idea whats possible or not
LOL, you heal? GitGud.
Don’t even get me started on why PD is the most influential game of its era .. it brought together everything that the next two gens of gaming would be known for ..
Heals ? We don’t need no stinking heals !
The original source of that quote is The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, a really good movie
wat, even at the time panzer dragoon wasn't really influencing anything
That's not for you to decide
Open 24/7
fml, can't have shit in mister discord
Thank @frail token
ban 'em all
Don’t Ban me bruhhhh!
I'm just going to play panzer dragoon and keep killing the dragon over and over, that'll show you
also panzer dragoon saga is pretty cool
Best rpg of its generation
maaaan really
Hands down fuck Final fantasy
I'm real early on, it's just so out there but i love how the entire series just feels otherwordly and foreign
being out there is a good thing, it's really cool
ok I'll stop rambling, wish I played panzer dragoon when it came out. at least I bought Orta day one

I’m street fighting!! Love me some jotego arcade cores
Just wait until you play the sequel!
Hey, it also crashes often when you don't heal! .......
Bummer duuuude!!
Yeah, it's one of the games I test with every new core build. Can't wait until the day I can play it without having to get through that lengthy cutscene before the first battle every time just to test it.
Ah, so it's partially your fault the Saturn failed? Robby...
If Robby had just made Doom 2016 for the Saturn back in the day, it would have been successful. Shame.
Everyone knows Doom 3 is best Doom
What?! No new core today? Sheesh….🤣
Don't tell him but he did really great work on that and eternal. What a boss.
I'll only tell him after his daily beating. He'll be too dazed and confused to remember.
Oops, I think I said the quiet part out loud!
Joke's on you, he is always dazed and confused.
Which version are you playing? Unpatched, or one of the translations?
oh press L on the menu
Unpatched, it's going into the menu, and then pressing the L button.
That version it's a button combo. I remember the start button is one of the buttons...
What do you mean, hate? Symphony is a well beloved game and one of the most important in the franchise.
the saturn version is mostly not as loved as the PSX version
Well it's only gotten that fancy translation like a month ago, right?
I'm sick of hearing how that guy knows us.
A while back someone mentioned Cotton 2 was not working.
So I decided to test it out again, and it seems to be pretty fine for me. Beat the first boss, play the "catch the tea" minigame, the cutscene plays afterwards, can get onto the next stage, etc.
I don't know the exact issue, but maybe it's a RAM timing issue?
Quick question, do I still need to be on unstable for the latest Saturn build to work? (Single ram)
Found a new problem. Dragon Master Silk is having issues with rendering the walls. Specifically when dealing with diagonal angles, it causes the polygons to become distorted.
You can use the latest stable main build and be fine. There hasn't been a main update in a while related to the SEGA Saturn.
thanks!
I've seen and isolated a rendering bug on Cotton 2, on Stage 2.
Like Toya said.
Issue report done.
I thought someone mentioned the game being unplayable because the first boss crashed?
That's what I was focusing on.
Aktane have some problem with the game, that's right.
I was focused on another bug report.
It’s worked for awhile
if it works, it's not stupid 👌
My uncle worked every day of his life. Dumb as a box of rocks.
works fine on my pi
Do you have a pi5?
lol I do but I prefer using the MiSTer
how much better is dreamcast emulation vs the 4?
Never had a 4, but the emulation seems good. I am definitely not someone to ask for any accurate information though.
reject pi, buy ryzen apu minipc
I am unfortunately spoiled by the MiSTer’s lack of input lag and ease of use. Even if the current core isn’t perfect I still prefer to play on MiSTer than any other option.
Obviously other options to play games are amazing and wonderful. It’s just my preference.
@lusty rapids is probably right though
Anything the mister can do for sure. Like DC, certain arcade games, sinden light gun
dang it
I can’t say it enough; thanks for following up on those bugs and reporting them. It’s people doing what you do that makes this core so great!
I just checked unstable nightlies and there wasnt a core
thats it
pack it up
we're done here
(I'm hype over the next update!)
What’s wrong with Rayman?
He doesn't have any arms
he's never lonely though because he does have hands
however he has no legs
All the ladies love the hands because he's not limited to where the hands can go compared to if they were connected to arms
#unhinged
A small error on a background plane during the Anguish Lagoon stage.
When you are getting to the Mosquito boss.
Nothing of great importance, maybe a typo in the VDP2 code.
yeah, otherwise it works very well, I spent some time with Rayman 😄
Rayman , Megaman are games , you want to check for a while and you play for a few hours
I notice that in NBA jam during team sélection the screen is flickering. I m not sure is this is normal or no.
NBA Jam Extreme or NBA Jam Tournament Edition ?
NBA jam tournament edition
ok thanks
USA ver ?
I dont remember if was usa or Europe. I can't verify now im not at home but i think was USA.
ok thank you , just wanted to test the same version
I was playing it with last version.
Several SW emulators have the same bug.
I was reading some old Saturn emulators source codes (especially interested by the 1.28.00 version of Mednafen), as I see some notes in order to correct Discworld as being unresponsive with a controller.
And also the problem with the US/EU versions of Primal Rage being finnicky for booting/responding in-game.
The same bugs that we have on the core currently.
Really seems to be SMPC-related condition with a special case to be declared.
At the moment, I see where the two problems could come from, but I can't translate them to the core source code (syntax is completely different).
Maybe giving that hint to srg320 at a latter time through the issue report logs.
I see , there is some information in the changelog
nice find @ripe valley
I've left a note on the two issues as I don't understand clearly what Rypheca have done on two registers on the SMPC when fixing it.
Yeah, same for me
@sacred goblet please create a ticket https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Saturn_MiSTer/issues
do it for Segata
You think there will be a new update today? Srg has been pretty consistent as of late, so I wouldn't be surprised if he drops another one.
Yesterday Russia again launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine ☹️
I follow the war closely
ok so the Segata game is just a goofy mini game collection right?
rude
Wow read the chat for two minutes and already reached my max sarcasm level
I’m working on acquiring Og hardware with a fenrir installed for accuracy testing
Done
Sorry I’m pretty new to installing and using this core but really keen to play shining force 3. Does anyone know what’s behind the crash on healing and if it’s likely to get fixed soon?
The core is under active devlopment
its should not be regarded as fully stable, things will break and things will be fixed
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Saturn_MiSTer/issues , here you can take a look at what the bugs are in the games, there are quite a few, I'm sure it will be fixed at some point.
but it is hard to say when this will happen
Thank you appreciate it
i've been wanting to play shining force 3 for a long while too.. I started it up using the MODE on a regular saturn.. then dropped off after 5 minutes and have yet to go back 😂
i will though eventually
I was very hopeful that the latest flurry of updates woulda solved that issue ..no clue what causes it ..
@sudden tusk , @pearl harbor I have just checked the Shinig Force III in the Japanese version and it works ok, casting the healing spell also
but the problem is with the eng patch version
there the game crashes when casting a spell
I cast the spell several times in the Japanese version
I'm even doing it now 😄
Dang. I've also been stuck in Shining Force 3 at the healing spell part. Wonder why it's just the English version that crashes. Wonder if the original version is completable.
The only thing keeping the Saturn from being the ultimate retro console controller is a lack of a select button.
Discuss
You’re a select button.
compelling tbh
It’s a good controller but the ultimate is and always will be the wii classic controller pro.
from what i remember psx core also sometimes has a problem with hacks and translations for games.
We all know that the N64 controller is the best Saturn controller.
But there's also an official english release of Shining Force III scenerio 1.
Oh yeah, forgot about that. Have you tried it?
Honestly, it's been so long since I downloaded my copy of the game, I'm not even sure if it's the patched japanese version, or the original english release.
i will try org USA version
maybe the problem is only with the patched version. I'll check it out right away.
I'm actually curious what was even changed with the patched version. I assume just a more faithful translation than the official one?
i think yes
It is a pity that the introduction in this game is so long 😄
savestate would be useful
I've heard that for the first part in English they weren't planning on doing the other parts, so they rewrote the ending. so, if you want to play all the parts, you need to patch them all so that the story makes sense.
US version unfortunately also crashes
So for me only the JAP version works, I don't know why
today I will not go back to it , we will see what the next updates bring
Yeah I’d agree with this
thanks for checking! saved us the time of sitting through those cutscenes
So I finally installed a Fenrir in my Saturn and wired it up on a PVM. I'm pretty much a noob on the Saturn library
but that means a lot is new to me, and I'm slowly enjoying trying stuff
the controller feels so nice, I didnt realize it until I played some games for a bit longer
Saturn core hates english confirmed.
Get in line
it's from https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/sega-saturn-to-neo-geo-controller-adapters.8858/ I used diptrace to export it to a format that worked with easyEDA
@Arthrimus has taken the SEGA Saturn to NEO-GEO adapters to another level, another 10 levels in fact.
Please visit the following link for further information.
https://github.com/Arthrimus/Saturn_Controller_Demux
Features of this adapter are as follows:
Button remapping.
COIN may be mapped in...
@tawny forge u can grab mine here https://oshwlab.com/patrick_3134/snac-saturn
In EasyEDA open source hardware lab, open source square pools all kinds of electrical design engineerings together to realize resource sharing easily.
Been very out of the loop with the newest core updates. Is Nights and/or Panzer Dragoon working with no audio dropouts yet?
Does anyone know if Grandia having text incorrectly positioned (in-game menu and dialogue) is a known/reported issue?
redump or just a random dump?
redump yes
Will take a look! Thank you!
If you are using a 2.4/2.5 ram then nothing has changed
best to test it yourself , people with 2.5 report that they still have problems
I can't see how to download a Gerber zip
click "open in editor" then
king!
RetroFi 4P Saturn module coming soon™️
Nice
You can try reaching out to them to see if they sell it in puree form: https://www.gerber.com
thanks, I processed an order earlier
but that’s not baby food!!!
famicom, Nes 2player, super famicom 2player, Sega Master System/Mega Drive & Sega Saturn
all in white/black so it looks a e s t h e t i c
these will be so much nicer than some already on sale
where they use pc db9 connectiors
gonna make 5 of each and sell off the excess at cost
cause I genuinely don't want to make a cash profit on them, I just want other people to have good snac adapters
some folks selling n64 snac for $25 plus shipping, I'll sell for 20 delivered
Really cool! I love seeing how y’all share your talents with others.
srg320 committed
VDP1:
- add frame buffer rotation modes (Shienryu,Power Drift,Hang-On GP)
VDP2:
- add support for rotation reading of frame buffer (Shienryu,Power Drift,Hang-On GP)
- add support for single density interlace mode (Shienryu)
- fix vertical scrolling changes in the middle of the screen (Shienryu)
👁️ 👄 👁️

Nice 🍻🥳
Looking forward to a commit message in the lines of "fix issues with shitty ram" 🙃
lol, so true, that’s what I look for every time 😂
Shitty ram 💩
- added support for all y'all using ram sticks you found on the street
- you fucking plebs
So Power Drift finally rotates!? That's one of the issues I test with every core update! I'll need to check it out in a bit!
Gonna happen as soon as my 3.0 ram arrives... it has made it to Canada, just on the coast opposite to me.
When someone dealing with a military occupation still has better RAM than you 😦
Everyone report your findings !
I’m so happy Saturn dev is back in full swing love to see it
extremely bullied 😛
I’ve been on like a 2 month mister break, just observing the unstable nightly channels every now and again and it’s like n64 and Saturn updates are like dueling banjos levels of who can crank out a perfect mid 90s console core first
back in my day if you wanted a game to rotate you just turned your head
Makes me happy
you didnt need eastern europe or anything
I see that Grandia no longer has a problem with texture flickering in the introduction
Yep! the intro is perfect now! Grandia is such a lovely game...
Do both for maximum effect! 🙃
fun stuff. I have a saturn vid at 4 too. So these will have to wait till Sun or so
had some freezing / water issues in our bedroom today so I am taking it all apart sigh
I just realized that the SSD I have in my saturn is woefully lacking... only 128 gigs
lol
no wonder it was missing games
last I looked the isos are at least 700+ gigs zipped alone
Shining Force III still hangs 😛
Super Tempo still doesn't work.
Fixes for Hang On GP
haha nope but its an interesting looking glitch
awesome to see this core coming together so fast at this point
I'd wait for an SMPC or SH-2 update to fix anything not booting
Just find it strange how it randomly broke.
Part of the process
I’ve seen some in Quake too on floors. Looks like flipped shading
same for Tomb Raider and Powerslave
Still no sound in Afterburner
Finally tested Power Drift, and we have the long awaited screen rotation!
Transparencies in Magic Knight Rayearth now render correctly
people with good ram - wow check this out this transparency renders great now!
everyone else - wait that game runs?
slow and steady wins the race
Were you here for the early unstable load days? Where wired network load vs SD card vs USB vs WiFi all had wildly different results? In addition to RAM type. This is honestly the most stable it's ever been. Those were some days.
Damn bro you been around the scene for a long minute
Don't speak to me of the old majicks. Etc etc.
That looks like (or related to) the incomplete gouraud issue. Damn Pandemonium! is bad that slow. I tried it on OG hardware and it's still not a great game for me, but it's way more interesting at full speed.
I'll play anything with Greg Proops in it though. (Episode One Racer honestly got me because I was a Whose Line fan...)
psx version is better 🙂
Everyone in here testing Saturn meanwhile we ended up with water damage due to extreme cold in our bedroom and I’m just fixing that 🤣
damn bro the specular lighting in this screenshot is way better than the saturn could produce
the core is getting SICK
Saturn vid in 5 minutes all the same. Just not all the new improvements will save those for Sunday probably
Water is gone and damage is mitigated. Not how I wanted to spend my day 🤣
AwDryness
AwBadJanuary lol
now that you're done with that errand - you can get back to writing a witty script for sundays vod
smashed window, water damage in bedroom, couch leg broke last week randomly...disaster month!
haha shit happens
lol Ive found a few people shitting in our alley last year so...happens everywhere
you have footage in this video @gloomy hedge your Darius Gaiden stuff
cant wait to hear the witty banter on how shit I did in that run
whatever 75c clear 😛
69c clear or GTFO
worst intern ever
Sega Saturn on MiSTer FPGA is now on update all and while its still in beta there are still a ton of of best Sega Saturn games and Sega Saturn hidden gems to play! MiSTer FPGA Saturn core fun times! and the FPGA Core has been updated again! Bringing in some important fixes to some of the best Sega Saturn games! and I couldnt fit them all in this...
there you go kids
Damn. Gonna have to mess around with this new core tonight. This is moving so quickly now. Curious if anyone knows what else still needs to be done audio wise? I’ve noticed some games I have perfect audio and others it clips or drops out.
some games need volume regulation, some have perfect audio, some have issues. Just gotta wait for fixes
Might be related to the CDDA not being accurate.
Need to boot up Croc again
a lot
😆
The joke name should have been Awfakon
Ahh good to know! I anxiously await the day I can play Panzer Dragoons opening level with full audio.
Extreme cold doesn't mix with watersports
NOW YOU TELL ME
awesome core, srg should implement snac input
It's amazing what one can get done without the distraction of bullets whizzing around in the air, being all bad for your health.
Cheers to SRG320, and anyone else who made it out!
Too many boody marys.
Speaking of which I’m gonna be up in your neck of the woods next Saturday. Come to Milwaukee. I’ll buy you a bloody
They're All Gonna Laugh at You! (1993) - Track 03
😂
I’m bringing my wife to a baby shower and I just need a bar friend while I drink beer and shot combos and rip tickets
Analog gambling is where it’s at
I had an uncle who'd just chain smoke at a bowling alley playing pull tabs, scrounging for another buck worth of change under arcade machines when he ran out. They're skid row lotto, I swear. He stole my bike and sold it for drugs and pull tabs. :/
Spokane! See the sight! Then leave before dark!
That sounds about right for a pull tab addict
Nothing was right about him. I dunno if he's even still kicking. When you lose all your teeth at 25, prospects for a long life are generally not great. But I don't talk to that part of my family anymore. This is only on topic because Sega and Black Sheep go hand in hand.
Is there even really an on topic on Saturn chat?
We knew Hydlide was cool long before these jamokes
Hah! Yeah. I totally enjoyed my time with it.
I'm going to disappoint you...I don't actually drink! My doctor told me no alcohol at any time, since it's apparently really bad with my medication. Womp womp. I'll take a lemonade though! 🤷
How do you save your game in magic knight rayearth
Been playing for a couple of hours, not noticed anywhere to save lol
It's been awhile since I played it, but I think it's just in one of the menus. Pretty sure you can save any time.
Thanks, I will check again!
Just checked, and yeah press the start button and then select the "Illustrated Diary Writing" option.
Ah yes, that's it! Ty
Such a beautiful and comfy game to chill with.
MKR was a great release overall. One of the best, 'lightest touch' Working Designs reworks.
And the box had a ton of cool goodies like stickers and stuff included.
That game has kookoo artwork
That and Astal are kind of a good duo for eye candy
Plus both are pretty easy to finish
I nominate them as good games for Saturn newbs
... and BUG! also
Magic Knight Rayearth is also a great game to have purchased back when it was new and still have your copy in like-new condition with the case and all inserts and have it be worth a lot of money today.
Thank you for reading my run-on sentence.

EDIT : Possible regression on Rabbit.
I wanted to test the game as I see an issue report today, I can't reproduce the bug from @cold egret
The game goes in-game for me without any problem, but I have only a big blue square box on the character select screen now with core 20240125.
Rabbit broke on core 20240122.
Core 20240120 is okay, so there is a regression.
I notice that mode screen sélection in Daytona usa is corrupted with last version. I did not remember it was in 20240120.
I can confirm too, but the corruption is already on version 20240120.
I've rapidly tested Daytona USA on the last 6 months releases, the corruption is already there.
I've opened an issue, thanks.
And they let you stay in WI?
And I've seen another problem with the FMVs on Yu-NO (NSFW game).
Unfortunately can't check now , but did the intro in Pandemonium always shake ? 😄
Yesterday I noticed it , tomorrow morning I will leave for some time, I no longer have time to test anything
This is the blue box you're talking about?
By the way, the character select screen still works. Managed to get into a fight despite the corrupted graphics.
Yeah there is definitely a shaking that shouldn't be there.
Magical Hoppers also sort of does it too, but it's a little more stable about it.
thanks for checking 👍🏻
Yes.
So, a VDP regression when doing changes between the 20/01 and 22/01.
New srg320 commit:
VDP2: fix latching of screen mode settings (Gokujou Parodius Da! Deluxe Pack)
SCU: fix A-BUS DMA with invalid address (Tactics Ogre-Let Us Cling Together)
Fucking hero.
Oh yeah!
srg320 is really doing great work now that he's in a better living space. 😄 (Is this his first core?)
New Saturn build!
#unstable-nightlies message
Super Tempo still doesn't boot. Was kind of hopeful that maybe the change to the A-BUS DMA would of changed anything, but it seems to be a different problem.
Shutsudou! Miniskirt Police neither.
Yep, looks like its been there for a while
The whole Parodius games are playable on the core now.
The first one on the MSX collection, the others on the Gokujou compilation + Jikkyou Oshaberi - Forever with me + Sexy Parodius.
srg320 is a flipp'n king. He's really knocking out these updates!
They only let me stay because of my dad's Harley Davidson credentials.
Ooh new Saturn. Fun
I understand you are the guy from VGE. I watch all your videos, but please please speak a bit slower, you don't need to fill every microsecond with words.
Just take your time to think, it's too intense like you do now.
This is a constructive critic, I will watch your videos anyway.
An example of nice and good talking would be "Import Gaming for the Winner", who has well documented videos where he talks in a natural way, instead of forced like a Micromachines commercial.
There are chrome plugins to speed up or down vídeos, in small steps. You can always try - 10% speed …
It's not about the speed of the videos, but about how "unnatural" it sounds. Just trying to make his videos better, really!
Also, I don't use Chrome but Firefox, I won't be caught dead using any Google software locally.
Safari is a propietary piece of software, I don't see any reason to defend the interests of private companies, even if you work for them.
HELL YES BROTHER
I still have Chrome for the rare times when something doesn't work correctly on Firefox
There's Chromium for that
But I was talking about going on an actual jungle safari...what does that have to do with software?
||
||
I'll safari where I want to!
Yeah prolly not gonna change lol
Why? Does the algorithm somehow make you talk like that to improve monetization?
Genuine curiosity
will my mister explode
can I put a condom on the sd card before plugging it in, will that help
It’s how I talk. Just how it is
I pay him an extra $10 a month on Patreon to speak at that speed
I have shit to do.
Double that and I’ll talk 2x as fast
😄
If that's the case, then I am sorry for my suggestion. You sound like a passionate guy but I could use some space between phrases. But thats you, so ok, ok, thanks for your work, really.
No worries 🙂
If we're voting, I vote you never change.
I honestly wish there were more written articles or videos with transcripts because I would rather read than watch a video but it would seem all of humanity disagrees with me on this point.
Lol I never will. Impossible
At least fast talkers get the video done quickly. 😄
Zero Punctuation, say what you want about those reviews, they're efficient.
Hello guys, anyone can tell me why on pal games there is black border on top?? Game is not centered
because the core is beta and not finished
Oh OK, thank you for your answer. 🙂
was this filed on github?
yes
The shading problem can be seen in several games, on video Tomb Raider, Powerslave and Pandemonium https://youtu.be/VK2IrqxQPCU
w00t
Im having a problem with this core, where almost every time I start it up I get a snow noised video. Im pretty sure it's somehow the core, because I can from there jump to another core, and then get completely perfect video, jump again to another core, and still get perfect video. Randomly (can't figure out any correlatable reason), I can get clean video out of the saturn core, but then next power off power on, it goes back to noisy. I have a dual SD RAM setup (implying a digital IO board). I have tried both single and dual stick rbf files, as well as multiple versions of the files. The BIOS files are fine, because while video is snowy, it still runs games, and will boot into the BIOS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂
Also, thinking it COULD have been a PS problem, I just today got a 10A power supply
still sadly didn't fix the issue
Okay so have you played around with both the VRR and vsync settings to make sure it's not a compatibility issue?
Also make sure you have the dual ram installed correctly
that switch SW3 must be set for a digital IO board
Yeah, I saw that, and Im 99% certain I did that, but I can definitely double check
I assume you are going to a HDMI TV and not a CRT via an adaptor
I do "tend" to follow, and definitely have a good (albeit never have done an emulator SW, or HW myself yet) understanding of all the HW stuff going on here, as I USED to be an FPGA HW and SW dev myself
Yes sir
AND, I have tried both a TV, and a (more) computer monitor (just thinking that somehow the HDMI signal might be being misinterpreted)
other thing is to rename the Mister.ini to Mister.ini.old that will force a default ini file
if that works then its your ini
what's SUPER interesting, is that when I boot JUST the BIOS, the BIOS overlay graphics dont have the snow on them, but the initial gray Saturn screen, and then thus the background graphics have the snow
then when a game is started, the entire screen (again) has snow
try the default ini
and check that switch
also run the memtest core
and make sure your ram is actually good
Again I am assuming you are using 2 chip ram sticks
and not 4 chip ram sticks
and that your ram is modern 2,5 or above
Yes, 2 chip from misteraddons
and both sticks are facing outwards as required
and you are on the pins and not off by one
thats happened to people before
Not off by one LOL, actually if done right, the digital board is tight enough designed around the sticks that it won't allow it LOL
people have managed it
LOL, I can imaging 🙂 Good note, Ill keep that in mind, and it has definitely been a WHILE since I have been a hardware guy, but...............
your best bet is the default ini
Ill try that, and the RAM test, Ive wondered if somehow I had a bad stick, so Ill run that overnight
Has anybody looked into building a tester that can do both?
Curious, are there any signals that could be read by software to know whether it is the analog or digital board present, or read that switch line to know it there is a second one installed?
By the way, my GOAL (as I will retire in around 2.5 years) is that I would love to get further involved with this hardware FPGA retro gaming community, perhaps as a dev myself.
Hours in, and mem test still running LOL
@lean forum the memtest never stops running. If it’s been running for hours without errors, your ram is probably good
Yeah it never really stops. Well maybe in a month it might hit some weird limit. Or it just resets. Who knows 🤷🏻♂️
eventually the sun will go out in our solar system so that's probably a hard limit
Holy shit is this for real? He made the SNES, Gen, and TG16 cores that we all use now? Amazing!!!!
huh, I’m getting a repeatable crash in rayman with the single sdram build and a 128mb 3.0 stick. in the level right after getting the punch (so the 3rd full level) right after rescuing the orb dudes the game displays mostly a pink screen and freezes, though the music keeps playing
haven’t had problems with any other Saturn games so far; this is with the latest unstable core too
I can confirm, there is a regression on the third part of the first level.
A bug report have been filled. @tall radish
EDIT : Last working version was 20240120, like with Rabbit.
just checking before I write up a problem
480i over crt
and HD I suppose
it's not right is it?
on crt it displays as a bob deinterlaced 240p image
and on the HD side it displays wrong, like how the n64 core used to
the give away for me is how the shadow masks turn into vertical lines, which again the n64 core did in 480i mode until it was correctly implemented
ABOUT TIME
I'VE BEEN WAITING MONTHS FOR THIS

Let's fucking GOO
Very glad to know srg's doing so well these days
He managed to escape from the occupied territory in case you didn't know.
Yeah, that's been a relief
Was pretty worried for him a long while
Yeah, especially when there was no update for a couple of months.
With a partial revert on the VDP1 code from core version 20240122, I can use Rayman and Rabbit once more.
I need to test a little bit more and redo the Single RAM version later and/or see with srg320 if a PR is acceptable.
I've only tested the DualRAM version on Rayman, Rabbit and Cube Battler - Shou, so if someone wants to test the SingleRAM version.
On VDP1.sv, line 589
I reverted partially the code to
if (CMD_NSPR_LEFT_OVER || CMD_NSPR_TOP_OVER || CMD_COORD_RIGHT_OVER[0] || CMD_COORD_BOTTOM_OVER[0] || CMD_TEXT_SIZE_OVER) begin
srg320 removed the || CMD_TEXT_SIZE_OVER) condition on 2024-01-22 version of the core but it breaks at least Rayman and Rabbit.
I will just leave those cores until srg320 fix them or if we see some bugs appearing on other games with that simple fix.
GREAT to know, I've just been looking at the counter, and it is still continuously counting up. Having written a number of RAM testers myself, They can definitely (actually) run for hours depending on the number and type of tests run.
Cube Battler just confuses me lol
Me too. 😂
Great work 👌
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/MemTest_MiSTer
explains memtest
Run it and if the red number goes up its bad, the test will drop to a new frequency and try again if it gets below 130 your ram is effectively useless for the saturn
Yep, the red count is still 0!
So Im guessing it isnt the first ram stick.
Interestingly, the problem persists regardless of using the single or dual RBFs
did you use a default ini yet
or a different HDMi port on the TV and a different cable
Not, yet, BUT I just now, got it to boot into the saturn core perfectly, twice, but then it went back to staticy
do the ini test
will do
it will tell you if its something you have in your current ini
Just tried the ini, and it still gives the snowy saturn core
I think you need to now remove the IO board and the USB board and test with just the De10 and memory
although you may need the USb for a controller to navigate the menu
It’s a jigsaw puzzle game?
LOL true that
and try another cable or port on the TV
wierd stuff has gone away when the HDMI cable was replaced
Already tried 2 cables, AND 2 different monitors, a TV, and a computer monitor
Im going to upload a vid to show what Im seeing, because it is actually strange
and you are direct no switches, capture device etc
Yes sir
capture
What you'll see is that it isn't HDMI corruption
Because the Linux interface looks pristine, other cores look pristine, and even the saturn core, the Saturn splash screen has snow, but the overlain symbology in the bios screen is pristine also
well thats not something you see every day
RIGHT??????????????
did you try a diff monitor? Just to rule out the simple stuff
Yes, a TV, and a computer monitor
every game? Just this game?
sorry if I am coming in late and you already answered
I would delete all the cores for Saturn
I actually have tried numerous BIOS files
downlaod the latests only and try that
hmm then yeah delete core and add newest...test again
that (sadly) was the first thing I thought it could be
#unstable-nightlies message
Tried a different TV? Different hdmi cable?
Yeah, the TV was using one hdmi cable, the computer monitor was already using a different HDMI cable
but again, it can't possibly be an HDMI issue
all other cores are perfect, and the perfect BIOS symbology
atop corrupt backround
So across two different displays and two different cables the video corruption has been consistent?
Yes sir
wild
Yeah definitely
id delete core, try agian
Id LOVE to play this core more
happens again...id do a new MiSTer install on a second microSD and test that
running out of options lol
Is it a recent thing? Has it been fine with older core builds?
ok I am going to say its a bad ram stick
It has been the perfect symbology overlay on the bad background video that has made me belive it is the core though, and not HDMI
almost looks like ram corruption you'd see on hardware when there were read/write/addressing errors
and why just saturn? well I have no clue lol
RAM tested overnight, and tested good
you on dual or single ram build?
dual ram build, but same corruption regardless of rbf
what Im afraid of, is that the core is using an FPGA LUT that just so happens to be bad on MY chip
just change the sticks off the GPIO to switch sides of the DE10 and retest
because that could very well be the problem
try a lower output resolution ? kinda looks like one of those scaler meta-instability things
he used a default ini
does the osd go through the scaler? i can't remember
I would secure the Saturn connector to the PCB. eg. using some Zip Tie : you can drill a hole on each side of the PCB round the connector and put a zip tie. If the PCB is not wide enough, a simple indentation will be enough to avoid the Zip to move and escape.
@thorn pagoda - sorry, the Saturn BIOS symbology Overlay is perfect
480i/240p difference maybe ? does seem unlikely tho
let me ask a dumb question....you DONT have your power cable intertwined with your HDMI cable yes?
id highly doubt only ONE core would see an effect but I have seen interference across HDMI randomly when someone on set will keep them touching
rare but it does happen
Gosh no LOL
grasping at straws but hey...were at that point it seems
haha well gotta ask the simple stuff
great question though. HDMI parameters however also make that more than likely not to be a problem
ok here's what I think / would suggest: 1st...do a fresh MicroSD install with a fresh core and bios. Your card would have to be full AF to continually write to the same addresses when you delete and re-add the core now...but cant 100% rule out some weird write error on the card. But hey...Ive seen it once on my shit
yeah you really need a stingers worth of juice to mess with it
2nd: swap your ram sticks around and retest
if either of those show no difference then yeah I think its pointing to a fault on the DE10 itself. But that JUST manifesting in ONE core would be highly unique
Yeah, the twist rate, the shielding, the fact that HDMI is digital and compress makes that extremely difficult, especially when pairing with the fact that video in every other case is pristine
Switching RAM sticks, at least for the 1st 2 power cycles seems to give good video for the single ram stick build
ooh progress!
Odd though, given the RAM test revealed no problems
I am glad my instincts were getting somewhere
LOL
ok so my next suggestion is to take the stick that just worked FOR A BIT, leave that in, remove the second stick, flip the dip for single ram and retest
I new if I got on here with another couple brilliant hardware people, Id get SOMEWHERE 🙂
never flip the switch when a Digital IO board is fitted
if you can get stability off the stick that tested good a FEW times, with the other stick removed and the DIP flipped I think we can say the cause
er yeah...thats true
the switch is not to tell it dual ram its to configure the DE10 to use the Digital board
ok just remove the IO then
removing the digital IO board will have 0 effect
or can he just remove the second stick altogether and test? Ive never attempted that config because it isnt something anyone would do...minus trying to diagnose this one weird problem
just running a single sd-ram build is enough no?
yes single ram build will not use the 2nd stick at all
yeah
probably? but that ram stick still inline could confuse things? honestly who would have ever tried this in the first place
Yep, and thats what I did
or remove the second stick as the digital IO board doesnt need 2 sticks fitted
True, given the parameter I laid out!!!
I am just thinking how many items can be removed from the chain so as to potentially isolate what part could be producing an issue...reductive reasoning lol
pretty much has to be that sdram that just got moved to slot2 right
its a good lead...but then why would it go BACK to throwing garbage onto the screen?
to test the ram you fit one stick, run memetest, then swap the ram with the other stick and run memtest again
but yeah SOMETHING seems "fucky" with the ram
see if it behaves in the psx dualram core
id also check the ram module solder joints. Make sure they are all solid. Could be as simple as a cold joint / cracked joint
we would also need to see a screenshot of the ram test after say 15 mins
and movement / mechanical tension could be causing issues
Just tried the Saturn DS core, and it NOW seems to be outputting good video also
ok maybe it was a seating problem? or a cracked joint. Something mechanical
LOL
then you likely had a bad insert of the ram
also... sometimes just reseating the sdrams fixes things
hey we fixed it! lol
@thorn pagoda - True
MiSTer brain trust assemble
happy gaming!
Love this community
it was seriously a "jiggle the handle" solution
well I am glad it got sorted!
funny because when I started typing I was finishing talking about Saturn controllers FOR the core
I don’t see a duke
Your setup looks similar to pixel cherry ninja or video game esoterica
lol I am Video Game Esoterica
I just wasnt allowed to use that name here because @pearl harbor yelled at me
LOL, you and I have chatted on your youtube channel before then LOL
I was the guy who messaged you about your background being varied
I am everywhere all at once lolol
no twinstick
Love your channel
Hori fighting commander might also be a relevant controller to test although it doesn’t have analog triggers
@naive whale - I was looking at the GamerPro Advanced to hookup my old controllers, have you ever used it?
call yourself a sega Controller review !
You could argue that the duke is a direct descendant of the 3d controller, so it deserves its fair test!
I mean, they couldn’t even be bothered to come up with something to replace the filled in vmu slot so they just stuck the big Xbox logo there
⚡️Buy Reflex Adapt from MiSTerFPGA.com. ✓ Only Genuine Products ✓ 30 Day Replacement Guarantee ✓ Fast Fulfillment
i think it was meant to have a screen at some point but it got cut didn't it?
Wouldn’t surprise me
@stiff patrol - I was looking at the GP Adv because it already has Dreamcast controller compatibility. I am looking to use it on both the mister, and a raspi 5 for the emulators that will play dreamcast, PS2, etc...
More than likely Ill end up with both, but was pondering which to buy first
reflex is supposed to be adding dreamcast support at some point iirc
Yeah, I thought I read that somewhere
and its just a new dongle to buy at around 10 dollars when it does
just checked - porkchops mentioned it a few times on his discord, not been successfully done yet
might want to head over there and read it for yourself, see what you think
I think I already have LOL, thats where I think I heard about it 🙂
Epoxy works too
It's a kid's duty to yell at their parents.
are you f'ing kidding me? a translation hidden in the game
@burnt matrix you didn't happen to hide anything good in doom eternal by any chance?
No
maybe next time. it's gonna get revealed soon.
I did but I’m not revealing it
maybe it’ll get found, maybe it won’t
subscribe to my Patreon to find out
unless you hid it in the first level it's never going to be discovered
because that's where everyone QUIT
lolol TRUE
I actually have data on game completion rate around when we launched and it was around 30%
Like 34%?
Which is incredible
the new game will play like a third person action rogue souls cod-like and will be named doom returnal
i actually got stuck in doom eternal 😮
like some rando mid-level encounter i just couldn't clear
i want to see way more physics destruction games
I helped develop our destructible system and made it extremely performant
So I agree!
did you play that voxels game basketsnake?
i can never remember the name of it, it's 100% about destruction/demolition
i haven't tried it yet, i've seen it. the ALL VOXELS GAME
Incredibly distinctive and unique, Teardown is a game quite unlike any other... and after years in development on PC, it's finally arrived on consoles. Alex takes a look at the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions of the game, explains what sets Teardown apart and how its visuals and physics work, then examines performance. Tweaks are required...
Room Deternal
Speaking of voxels, Amok for the Sega Saturn has a landscape voxel engine that’s pretty impressive.
Sega Saturn does voxels!
is Minecraft considered voxels
Yes
I'm a voxel.
Also yes
Like a good game?
exactly
I've found another regression on Bug!

Sweet, Necronomicon seems to be finally working almost perfectly
all hail the new lord!!
I wonder if these sorts of issues is why his current work was only in unstable-builds, its all experimental and he'll only put out a test build when he's able to upgrade the whole of the core without regressions
which would be very cool way of doing it, and now I'm wondering if he'll change gears and attempt some audio bug fixes
I'm not sure if this is a regression, but discovered the artwork on the tables in Pinball Graffiti are not displaying, along with some polygon streching.
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Saturn_MiSTer/issues/103
I've finally set up a Github account to report this, along with the no sound issue with Pro Pinball. As srg320 seems to be focussing on video display issues this seemed to be the perfect time to get set up on Github. While Pinball Graffiti isn't the greatest game, hoping that fixing the issue here will help other games elsewhere.
On core version 20240126 ? @umbral radish
I will do some tests later today and include the games you mention.
@ripe valley yes, the latest version - 20240126.
Since posting on Github I've gone back & tried the game on an older build (from 30th November 2023) and same issues there as well so this doesn't appear to be a new bug. As I know this isn't a popular game I'm not surprised that it hasn't been picked up on until now.
remember folks if you run and use the remote script it's super easy to take screenshots and copy them back to your device
@wise brook Did exactly that so I could post the images on Github, really useful!
king!
I've tested around 250 games rapidly (played 5/10 minutes) so far, but the Saturn catalog is much more vast.
The games were chosen as the 'top 150' and other 100 more games that are struggling or had issues on SW emulators these last years.
So some games could bypass through that testing/verification process.
heya, I finally took the plunge to set up the Sega Saturn core and games run very well! I am looking at getting some OG controllers and just wondering if there are any issues currently with SNAC support? Does the analog controller work?
So we have a new bug in Bug!? It's bug-ception!
Its SaturnDay in 6 minutes
got another testing video knocked out
Sega Saturn on MiSTer FPGA is now on update all and while its still in beta there are still a ton of of best Sega Saturn games and Sega Saturn hidden gems to play! MiSTer FPGA Saturn core fun times! and the FPGA Core has been updated again! Bringing in some important fixes to some of the best Sega Saturn games! so let's do ANOTHER testing update...
You make a good point about interlaced games it would be great if that could be fixed in the saturn core in the future
Gonna watch it later (I promise) but what is the problem with interlaced games?
It’s such an odd way to do Tate
Well, looking at the resolutions available, it makes sense (assuming the majority of home console owners aren’t going to turn their tv on their side). Looks like the arcade resolution is 352x224
Given the max vertical resolution non-interlaced on the Saturn appears to be 256, they needed to interlace it to get full resolution after rotation
The game does have a tate mode that's 240p. it's only interlaced in yoko.
Sure but even back in the day I don’t think many people were turning their TVs
For sure, it's still a nice option to have for a more accurate arcade experience. It's a bit niche, but unarguably superior.
Awesome! I knew a kid that had a console tv like that and would lay on his side for tate games. Smarter, not harder...
Would be nice if the mister had a better deinterlacer for sure; one of the reasons I am on the fence for a tink 4K
I'd be happy with Bob deinterlacing as on the PSX core. Can't stand combing artifacts.
I am not a fan either. I loaded up doa and noped out pretty quickly.
how bout that anime teeth.
Fmvs are low quality and low res, but those artifacts are different than weave deinterlacing 480i, as soon as there is motion you will see combing, and that is much more distracting. The cheap alternative resource wise is using bob, you lose resolution and the image is jittery, but no more artifacts during motion. In games where 480i is used only in static menus weave is preferable though, so an option to toggle between both is the best we could get for now.
Haven't been here in a while, anyone know if SNAC has been included in any of the recent saturn builds? Really looking forward to using my 3D pad
I've got the parts for my saturn snac adapters on route
I recall the last time we had SNAC in the build was when Blue1 added it manually to one specific version, but that was a very, very long time ago
Not since October.
I still keep that build on my MiSTer just for the 3D controller support. Luckily, most of the games that benefit from the controller are basically unchanged from that build compared to the latest build.
maybe I'll post an updated build later if you guys want. still in the process of trying to clean it up
yes thanks!
that'd be great
keen for more general analogue trigger support so you have options for other 3d pads, although yeah how you would do it and what the UI would look like for it is a fun question - dinput style +/- on one axis or xinput style seperate axes?
somehow you'd have to reconcile that
Asked this in the misteraddons discord but curious if anyone else is having an issue with the last few Saturn unstable builds where the l and r triggers are being recognized by the reflex adapt but not doing anything within the core? I tested Bulk Slash with a Japanese Saturn pad and all the controller inputs were recognized by the reflex adapt but in the core the l and r triggers are unresponsive.
Hoping the Saturn core get's save states option at some stage. Excellent work on this awesome core.
I would abuse the hell out of save states in Dragon Force
I left something fun over on #share-media but a new prototype is out for Silhouette Mirage on Saturn
Well... not sure what is going on. A new ram stick didn't fix my sound issues on SOTN. Single Ram with 3.0 128. The second ram slot has a 2.5 128, but the behaviour is the same in SR/DR cores. No voice acting, and the music seems much fainter in the right channel over the left. I haven't run into any behavior like this on any other cores. I also tried running hdmi directly into my tv vs through my AVR to see if it was some sort of speaker issue. I also double checked my source file, definitely the correct version. Am I missing something?
I also have the issue with SotN with the music mostly only coming out of the left channel (sound effects come out of both channels though). I don't have any of the other issues.
Blue1 continuing to be THE GOAT, must be another day that ends in "y" 🐐
Looks like I got a hot date with my saturn and my 3D pad this weekend
Hot DAYUM!
let's not get too carried away 😉
Too late! I've already lost my mind with excitement!
SNAC viceroy? A SNAC advisory council with deep pockets and industry hardened SNAC lobbyists?
I see where someone had no issues with Guardian Heroes, but the latest unstable build has a lot of weird graphical glitches for me, including character sprites leaving behind mirror images (kind of like the Alucard effect in SotN except they don't disappear). Is this a core issue, or potentially a RAM issue? I've got an older single 128MB in there (probably 2.5). Other games I tested very briefly seemed better - Shining Force 3 (some polygon seam issues), Bulk Slash, Magic Knight Rayearth (hitching during opening FMV, not sure if there on real hardware), and Linkle Liver Story.
I get that same behaviour for sound as well. Are you also on ram newer than 2.5? What's your setup?
The core is Beta and subject to change that may break existing games without warning
its the nature of the development
3.0/2.9 Ram is currently best for the core
2.5 ram has more issues
and 4 Chip Ram is a no go
Yep, I'm currently on 3.0. Have we seen inconsistent behaviours on different setups with similar hardware before?
Big SNAC
Andy “Big SNAC” insert last name here (which I know but won’t share)
It's basically a guid anyway.
(I'm licensed with SAG under my real name, so it's on IMDb and whatnot, but that takes effort)
Andy “Big SNAC” Timberwolf Johnson. There I spoiled it. Everyone knows now 🤣
2.9 ram
I know the speed on my RAM is pretty good, even if it's 2.5 - it runs the jotego CPS2 cores fine and passes all those memory tests. What's the bigger advantage with the 2.9/3.0 RAM? More stability, if I remember right?
No one mentioned the Nintendo 64...?
Sorry I’m drunk. 😔
Just started really messing with the Saturn, do some games just not have sound?
Daytona USA for example.
Some games don't. It also depends on your ram. On my end Afterburner II doesn't have sound, but Daytona (both versions of the game) does have full audio.
Hmm wild.
And some games just have other audio bugs. Like Elevator Action Returns having maniacal laughter that shouldn't be there whenever an explosion occurs.
Sound is there, it's just SUPER quiet.
That's also a problem with most games. Very quiet audio.
Yeah I'm getting that problem for sure.
Just gotta crank up them speakers! And then proceed to get your ears blown out when you switch to a different core and forget to turn the volume down.
That has happened to me a LOT of times with this core.. 😄
Try resetting your settings. That fixed it for me.
There must have been an old flag still active that wasn't exposed through the UI.
How did you do that exactly?
On the right-hand pane in the Saturn pop-up menu, there is an option to reset settings and save settings. Choose reset (of course you need to re-set up the core, but it's nothing dramatic).
I'll check that out tonight
hmmm SotN has a huge slow down in a certain area
will check later to see if it still happens
might be the ultimate translation though
there is time to make coffee , use the toilet
yeah thats not right lol
This reminds me back in the 90s clicking on the start menu in Windows 95. I could drink half a cup of coffee before it appeared, shredding the HD in the meantime 🙂
Alucard is just savoring the moment!
"What do we want?!"
"Revenge on my father!"
"When do we want it?!"
"Eventually!"
Other than that it seems to work perfectly
@pearl harbor this chocolate company named itself the same as how I lay your mom down on those cold Wisconsin nights 🤣
Is this a saturn version thing or just a bug in the translation?
That was my question too
It only happens when a certain asset is loading onto memory
As it runs fine until that corner is loaded into memory that is
Even if it is in the original, it would be great if it's fixed in a revision of the patch
Yup
I just killed that one succubus or whatever she’s called (the one who tells him to kill all humans) and a soft lock
Heh
taking the save and making it loadable on the other image brb
I mean, it's a good thing that my parents have a healthy relationship.
I will check if this is a core thing now
fight is easy enough
@mortal mist post is updated with information https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Saturn_MiSTer/issues/38
Thanks for checking !
the slow down is a core issue
happened again with Cerberus in the underground catacombs
I think the flame effects in the background are to blame here
not going to report this as a bug as the core is still WIP
going back to the same area after the kill doesn't trigger the slowdown
@mortal mist that's why I'm here 🙂 you know I test SotN on every platform on the MiSTer 🙂
those will o wisps are extremely out of ballance for grinding - low HP and high exp yields.
they appear in the exclusive area early on in the game

For three hours, his joke ruled the channel
It has been quiet in here
Yes it has
Finally got around to testing this out, and yep, worked like a charm. So weird!
Glad to hear
im fuckin popplio
thats where the game gear fucked up
with all its grown up shin megami tensei and all that shit
just needed a pokemon game
maybe when saturn gets a good pokemon game, the core will be completed
Should have replaced the MISTer file and it would have worked
It needed a fresh install anyway. And I had run out of space on that card
Weird, I think my problem with Guardian Heroes was with the ISO I was using. I could have sworn I was using Redump, but it was giving issues even booting properly with the US BIOS, even with the region set correctly. The problems I saw were after using a patched worldwide BIOS. But ripping my old CD-R copy to a BIN/CUE with ImgBurn is working perfectly. Wonder if something was goofy with that upload? I also tried a CHD version that did the same thing, so... I dunno.
Why does WipeOut XL look like that there? 😮
I don't know but that looks cool
Saturn exclusive cheat code:

Guys, are the 3d pad analog triggers currently supported by core? Cannot get them to work with dualshock 4. Analog stick works
No. Only way to use analog triggers is with SNAC.
Thanks!
It’s been requested. Hopefully it happens soon!
Sounds like srg320 is looking to tackle the Shining Force III crashes! He's been asking how to replicate it on Github.
Step 1: be a nerd
Step 2: playing shining force
Step 3: ???
Step 4: profit
