It's between the japanese and american intro to me. The v saturn and hi saturn looks weird. I don't even know what a hi saturn is. 😄

mortal mist
#

Similar problem had people who did not have games in separate folders. I don't know if it is the same situation for you.

#

you have correctly configured Mister for dualsdram ? sometimes the switch is not in the right position

#

I’m partial to the JP one cuz it’s what I first played. I think most consoles are like that for me.

#

JP bios sounds so good compared to the others.

For Policenauts (I've not tested with other multi disc games), when prompted by the game to change to another disc :

  • Open up the OSD;
  • Load the corresponding CUE/CHD file needed by the game;
  • Open the OSD once again;
  • Select the 'reset' option.

The BIOS will load up once more with the blue SEGA logo after that and the game will continue directly.

If you have a save file from Panzer Dragoon Saga, Deep Fear or other one you want to test, it could be interesting to upload them on the Github and see if we could make them work too. Or if the multidisc function needs to be improved at a later time on the core.
Thanks.

ripe valley
#

I remember on the PS1 from the DuckStation beta testing phase (2-3 years ago) that some games could detect the disc change differently and needed some adjustments or even a special value to be catched and understood on emulator side (like with Metal Gear Solid).
Maybe it could also be that case on the Saturn too. Just a hypothesis.

When I read the issues, they have followed the instructions on the RAM carts.
That's why I'm scratching my head of those ones.

#

Sometimes you gotta MAME

naive whale

My fav ever comment though was some random one on a MiSTer video. Went something like “it’s losers like you that ruin this hobby for everyone. They should be using real hardware. Not like you’d have any”

Dock it, brah

gloomy hedge

but I already got a mister

so it be like

#

wuh

serene thunder
#

butisitportable

gloomy hedge
#

its not NOT portable

#

its small enough

#

honestly I have toyed with the idea of a very easily portable mister

serene thunder
#

Yeah Retro Man Cave had a couple protos working

#

Not small

gloomy hedge
#

aside from that I have thoroughly enjoyed my miyoo mini + and my anbernic RG ARC-S

#

also a mister without save states is oof on the go

#

I want full save states

#

thats what makes on the go retro gaming so achievable

serene thunder
#

I just sold all my Nintendo handhelds
Just never used them

gloomy hedge
#

I only kept my 3ds XL

#

sentimental value

#

plus its hacked

#

the miyoo mini is the best gameboy ever

#

so no need to keep any of those

serene thunder
#

Yeah they were really cool pieces of tech
esp the n3DS

gloomy hedge
#

never tried the "new" one actually

serene thunder
#

Peak Nintendo madness

gloomy hedge
#

the screen on this bitch is magicla

serene thunder
#

And what are the limits with emulators

#

I still want a little gaming portable

gloomy hedge
#

the limits are not with the emus as much as they are with the dpad

serene thunder
#

But I'd really like that to include Saturn, PSX, DC

gloomy hedge
#

this one has an excellent dpad but

gloomy hedge
#

I wouldnt want to do those on the go

#

those are games I sit down and play on a TV

#

dont want those on a tiny screen

serene thunder
#

Ifn you say so
I guess I would be OK with SEGA CD and SNES being the limits

gloomy hedge
#

this one is the more recent pickup

gloomy hedge
#

so Both these devices do PSX very well

#

not perfect, but well enough to say, clear silent bomber which I did

#

or credit feed sokyu gurentai which I did

#

saturn ... ehhh no

serene thunder
#

OK, so forget DC
If they could do Saturn and PSX nice

#

We're close at least

gloomy hedge
#

saturn is too difficult to be accurate

#

yeah we're close

#

the key for me because I REALLY like to game. is that circle dpad

#

I like to play shmups a lot and need accuracy and comfort in the dpad

#

passed this test at least

#

but wasnt perfect

serene thunder
gloomy hedge
#

Anbernic RG ARC-S

#

sharp emu pretty solid as well

#

its funny these all use very old emulators lol

#

but they are updated and run just fine

serene thunder
#

This one?

gloomy hedge
#

yep

#

it had some funk when setting it up, but once I got it setup like how I liek it, its been good

serene thunder
#

X68K would be fun

gloomy hedge
#

the miyoo is a MUCH better user experience

#

the miyoo's screen is better

#

but its smaller, less comfortable

#

I have yet to clear cho ren sha on either unfortunately but thats probably just lack of trying, its harder on the miyoo than it is on the anbernic

#

Iguess what im saying is

#

if the analogue pocket had

#

1.) save state support
2.) a circle dpad, and 6 face buttons

#

I would pay any amount of money for it

#

oh yeah and decent triggers I guess

#

zero ranger white vanilla mode clear (minus tlb) this is also cool about these is they have "portmaster" which you can sometimes get working

#

and a size comparison and now I'll stop posting lol

serene thunder
#

Rough way to play tate shooters

gloomy hedge
#

yeah not a chance honestly

#

you can do it but its way too small for certain games

#

I did zero ranger tho

#

so its... doable?

tiny flare
#

Zero Ranger is chefkiss

gloomy hedge
#

HOWEVER

#

zero ranger has slowdown

#

so its like uhhh

serene thunder
#

Not sure how'd you solve that with a portable
the tate issue

gloomy hedge
#

almost a sharp x68k version of ZR which is kinda g reat

serene thunder
#

I guess the Lynx tried

gloomy hedge
#

wonderswan tried too

tiny flare
gloomy hedge
#

also the evercade, hte new one

gloomy hedge
#

because it needs wireless joycons

#

and there ARENT ANY WITH GOOD DPADS AND GOOD RESPONSIVENESS

#

I tried literally FOUR brands

#

so my flipgrip sits in a closet

tiny flare
#

eh, I found it fine to play through a few games, Switch is laggy no matter what you do lol

gloomy hedge
#

nah its not that bad with a good controller

#

ive cleared many games on switch, For Tate: I just rest it or use a tablet mount and a saturn pad

#

its only laggy if you use the wrong controllers because their whole shit is all busted

tiny flare
#

they have higher latency wired than non-wired

gloomy hedge
#

lol depends but yes sometimes

#

my brook UFB is fine wired though

#

its only like a half a frame or something worse than a joycon

#

but on the go I use a 8bitdo modded saturn pad which is wireless

#

https://youtu.be/kR_Ss4oFN-A played this in bed with a tablet mount holding the switch tate

Arrange L is very fun! I highly recommend it! Unfortunately it is ruined by Hibachi, who is a very stupid TLB. Just a puzzle / resource check. I could have cleared my first run had I known the "solution" which as you can see is dangerously cheesy. Easy once you know what to do, and just sillytown. I played this in bed, again with a 8bitdo modded...

▶ Play video
#

by no means is it perfect

#

but switch is totally viable

#

I think PEG Right now has higher scores on switch in DOJ than the PS4 leaderboard LOL (im sure this will change)

#

ultimately IF you had a nice wireless joycon with a circle dpad saturn style, the flipgrip would be the chefs fucking kiss and a half

FWIW I was able to play through Clockwork Knight from start to finish the other day on the core. It was in CHD format and I was using a US bios.

You should just be using the region free Hitachi bios

A little tip with reporting on issues:

If you don't know if a problem is related to the core, you can quickly look up a longplay and compare the core to the video. Ideally try to look for one from original hardware if possible.

gloomy hedge
#

a lot of them are trash emulators

#

and I wouldnt compare with those tbh

#

would definitely look for original hardware

#

the companies like WOL and stuff were cranking those videos out uber super fast and did not give a shit about the games themselves, they were just save stating through and did not do any comparisons with pcbs or hardware, it was whatever mame was there at the time

#

saturn in particular, emulation has only recently began to become good with mednafen and beetle

Damn, Burning Ranger’s environments are built out of a ton of bespoke meter large polygon squares. This is great for culling polys out of view for performance but it’s the reason why it looks like the game is falling apart. The lack of a Z-Buffer in the Saturn causes the individual environment squares to constantly sort over each other and the lighting doesn’t apply uniformly across each square so it looks all haphazard.

I think the main difference is that Robert himself posts his in test builds, and that channel is usually when the developer is looking for direct feedback from the users here for that build (they want us to test it for them). srg320 doesn't actually use the MiSTer Discord at all, and prefers feedback on Github.

lusty rapids

what about skipping retroarch and just using mednafen's saturn support directly? (what beetle is taken from)

gloomy hedge
#

beetle saturn is pretty good, and ive gotten clears on it, but for games like cotton / cotton 2, blast wind on hard, etc.

#

it doesnt feel right because of the huge input lag

#

playing cotton 2 the way its meant to be played, just cant happen right now, unless there's something I dont know OR there is some runahead capability

balmy prawn
#

yeah, I'm with DP on this one, using a retroarch core is not a good benchmark/basis for whether or not any emulation of a console is good.
You will always have a potentialy lesser experience using a core in RA compared to a dedicated emulator

gloomy hedge
#

btw I really hate retroarch

#

but beetle is much more accurate than mednafen outside of retroarch and runs better unfortunately

#

mednafen outside of retroarch has even more input lag

#

the only other comparable emulator is SSF

#

and those have specific forks and versions that are floating around

#

some versions run some games better, but we're talking like super old software here, with accuracy issues

#

Take for Example the SATURN TRIBUTE ports for Switch or PS4 by city connection

#

these are made with a base of SSF emulator or something so similar it cant be discerned to be different

lusty rapids
#

isn't the beetle core taken care of by the mednafen team?

#

you'd think they'd both get the same improvements

#

I'd also be curious about operating system environment and USB polling rate

gloomy hedge
#

I dont know the details

#

but in my real world experience, beetle runs a lot better

lusty rapids
#

well it's a retroarch core, they're all forks :p

gloomy hedge

I got a mister to never touch retroarch again ahha

I remember it was added to main

#

I remember being told it was in the N64 channel

frail token
#

Eh? I've never had it

#

I had to grab it manually last night

balmy prawn
#

or it was added via update_all perhaps

frail token
#

I use update_all

balmy prawn
#

weird. Could've sworn it got added

frail token
#

I thought you had to add it manually

Did X-Men vs Street Fighter ever get resolved?

#

cuz if not, that game just straight crashes

N64 was never added to the main update channel. Saturn is there, but not N64.

One particular game doesn't work yet - so the project is impossible? did I understand you properly

serene thunder

Saturn seems pretty hopeful
No video card tho
For those sweet upgraded FMVs

It's definitley more than one game at this stage that doesn't work.

#

the core is very early in my eyes

#

so not really ready to judge but yeah if it ceased production today, I would not continue to play it, it is just not there for me, its painfully close though 😉 which is why I have faith

Really makes you wonder where the core would be at this point if srg320 didn't live in a war zone. I feel so bad for him. At least he seems to be in a better place now after moving recently.

gloomy hedge
#

yeah all we can do is hope that the he has the important essentials to live, forget about the core, but this is a nice bonus that he has had time to continue

astral crane
#

I also think the same way. It's cool to test and see the games we love running, but I want to play seriously only after the core is ready.

The Saturn core is incredible. 💪

#

It gets better every day. SRG keeps on delivering!

I agree, excellent progress on a complex machine 👍 Surprised by the negativity towards his work tbh

quick sorrel
#

Never seen any negativity- srg320 is doing gods work- Saturn needs to be experienced by more people.

Developers were complaining about the complexity of that system even when it was new. Or at least that's what I would always read about why support for the system wasn't there, ports had issues, etc.

#

Eventually it just wasn't worth the effort here in the states, it felt like, with the install base so much lower than the PSX

quick sorrel
#

I thought the negativity was towards srg320 😅

lusty rapids
#

I think people took srg's long silence the wrong way

hearty carbon
#

Or the grim way.

lusty rapids
#

as "hmm the saturn core hasn't been touched in a while, must be bad"

#

instead of "oh he's trying to escape the hell war"

quick sorrel
#

Ah… glad he’s doing better regardless of the undeserved negativity

MiSTer is how I play Saturn. It’s thanks to the amazing SEGA fans and SRG’s amazing work that I finally get to experience the greatness that is Saturn!

upper dust
#

same! It's my new retro since I didn't have one as a kid and emulation has been spotty on the PC. This core is letting the Saturn be born again!

I will leave the theories about whether something can be done or not to the core author.
