Oh hmm not sure on that
I have a couple arcade cabs that are two player that I basically just strongarm into playing those twinsticks
So that's two JLFs
I don't think the Saturn virtual on style twinstick would be great for that but I'd love to try it and see!
Maybe it would be sick, not sure!
It's the rotary stick games that are problematic
Smash TV still plays pretty great with SNES layout
Yeah it's ok but i do love having two JLFs for the Robotron style games. It's just more fun.
To that effect, virtual on ports are great with a modern dual stick pad like a 360 pad or whatever
Let's find out what kind of mistake I just made... Although I'm guessing the core as it stands does not have twinstick controller support 😁
If I remember correctly the right stick is just digital buttons
Saucy
How much did it set you back?
I'd love to have one of those
but probably gonna get a pair of DC twinsticks first
The twinstick controller just remaps existing buttons on a Saturn controller, so yes it supports it. You can even mimick a twinstick controller using something like a PS4 controller by simply remapping the PS4 controller to match how the twinstick controller maps its Saturn buttons.
An annoying amount. So it was $200 but then another $100 for shipping from a site I've never used before and I have no idea what condition it's in. That's less tho than what it goes for on eBay. The only one I found less than $300 had an awful description... So fingers crossed..
Awesome 👍🏽💯
Yeah I figure I can play the 360 ports with this which I already have lying around and I have no DC to PC or MiSter adapters so that wouldn't do me any good.
Lololol
This is Miyamoto.
I've ordered plenty of things from surugaya before
if you're lucky, sometimes they do free shipping on everything from the store
I was under the impression that the Saturn core required the dual RAM on the digital IO board, so I’m very stoked that I can play it on my analog board.
i haven't been paying attention.. is saturn core a part of update_all already? Or not yet
Yes it's part of the update all
ah nice!!
It's still wip (beta)
understood.. and np
Yeah it does not
i got a saturn with a MODE so I've always been good on that front. But it's going to be awesome having that option on MiSTer as well
Geez that's sick
If y'all want some stuff that usually works great on the current core, play some Taito Shmups, Darius Gaiden, Metal Black, Gun Frontier
Oh yeah and Rabbit
Play Rabbit lol
darius gaiden is such a banger
I was playing Metal Black the other day, really cool game. It was originally meant to be a Darius game in development IIRC, and has some gameplay elements used later in G Darius.
Which DC to USB adapter would you use?
I just did a Darius series play through a couple months ago. And G Darius might be my favorite in the series.
I didn’t have Saturn when it was new when I was a kid, so having the console with action replay plus mister access is righteous.
The later sections of Metal Black get so trippy
The Saturn is an awesome console!
Yes, it is

Yup I gripped a good one and got some nice RGB cables for it.
That’s obvious , Saturn doesn’t need your dick riding
maybe it likes it, stop gate keeping
Battbutt!

Let us all join hands and pray for a new build
......
I do it every day , Segata help!!!!

@burnt matrix batts needs some moderation

Posting obscenities !!
ok , psx is cool 🙂
Fine I’ll concede .. psx is pretty cool
But damn it the Saturn will have a it’s place in gaming history!
Even if it’s not at the top
it was a console underestimated by many , but that has changed
Thanks to leet retro gamers like us
In the 90s many of my friends didn't have access to a Saturn, PSX was king 🙂
Saturn is strong with force
Saturn good in gaming. Yet Jupiter consistently bad. Whyfor
pluto
omg please no gifs
gifs ? where ?
Not you sorry
Robby, but no gifs here ( jedi mind tricks) 😛
you see nothing, there is nothing here

Gif policy enforcement: consistently mercurial
It would seem that I missed some...interesting discussion.
Back to the topic of Saturn, I am very much looking forward to the improved sound and ...... Shining the Holy Ark 🙂
any fun stuff on the latest Saturn? taking a break from the N64 core 😆
oh wait I know, gonna check out Fire Pro Wrestling
Virtual Hydlide (ヴァーチャルハイドライド, Vācharu Haidoraido) is an action role-playing game for the Sega Saturn console, developed by T&E Soft, published by Sega in Europe and Japan, and Atlus Software in North America. It is a remake of the original Hydlide, the first game in the series, but incorporated full 3D graphics and a player character digitized ...
best saturn Game ever
@burnt matrix loves it
yes, it;s the best Saturn game
he who considers himself a real gamer should finish the VH at least once a day
Its almost as good as Quest 64
yeah 😄
the way he adjusts the signal receiver and tunes his eyebrows for the correct range 😆
https://tenor.com/view/donald-trump-yes-cant-hear-you-listening-gif-12028396
are you saying it's better than Final Fight Revenge?
definitely
didn't the Saturn support CHD?
yes
I updated and now it's gone
is this one compatible with single ram? or only for dual ram?
#unstable-nightlies message
yes
oh wow I didn't notice I had that one
yes, it;s part of the main now
it went in a couple of weeks ago
damn, catching up on Saturn and N64
but still beta (WIP)
yes its very ram dependent
v2.9 or v3 gives the best results
v2.5 tend to have sound issues
and any AV ram 4 chip design is right out
I recentlly...aquired ||(was cursed with)||...a copy of it from a certain bacon loving fiend!
I think this is the first time i am playing VF2 on the core cause I get caught up with Final Fight Revenge. this is awesome. never played this console before.
i beat the two games on PS1
just thinking about symphony of the night gives me a stomach ache lol what a long game. I prefer Chronicles/NES format.
how are the saturn ones?
I'm more of a classic style Castlevania fan myself. But I also love the metroidvania style ones as well.
oh steam-hearts
is metroid more or less tedious than sotn?
Metroid is better without question in my opinion.
Total transparency, Metroid is my favorite game series of all time. Nothing tops it in my opinion.
I love SotN, but it's not even my favorite metroidvania style Castlevania game. The second half always felt like an afterthought to me in SotN. Still love the game though, but yeah, it's not my favorite.
so I'll probably develop a taste for metroidvania's if I play better thought out game in the subgenre then?
I think so.
Super Metroid specifically is the best game ever made in my opinion. Absolute masterpiece.
am I required to know any lore?
Nah, the game gives a recap of the first two games in the intro. Super Metroid is Metroid III.
Sold! gonna give it a try next time I'm doing F-Zero Final runs
Any tips for getting into Metroid? I’m a sucker for metroidvanias but Metroid never seems to hold my attention.
Super Metroid was the best until SotN came along 😛
Super Metroid rules
I might try Metroid Zero Mission or Metroid Fusion first, then
I skipped it back in the day and haven’t given it a real shot in the now either
they give you a bit more guidance, which might help propel you forward a bit without totally holding your hand
But I’ve played so many metroidvanias and loved even the super cheap knock off team ladybug games on steam lol
Ok I’ll try that
Hey, the Ladybug games are good stuff!
I mean lodoss war rips animations from sotn lol
They just revealed their newest game this morning in the Nintendo Indie Direct.
But they’re fun as hell and scratch the itch
Super Metroid rules, but I think it's easy for everyone to forget getting lost in Maridia during their first playthrough
...and their fifth playthrough
The only part I remember getting stuck on in Super Metroid in my first playthrough back in the day was the part in Norfair where you need to use the speed boots to run and jump up that ramp. It just didn't click with me at first.
playing Final Fight Revenge; as you do, and just learned Poison does some lip biting attack.
👀
then she wipes her own lips
just loaded a CHD out of curiosity and it worked for me
oh! Lots of Saturn talk toda...y...
My
game list!
thank you for this Saturn list, Robby! I'm using words like Robby Saturn List so I can search this later
Great list, however needs more Minnesota Fats: Pool Legend
Definitely zero first. Maybe play Samus returns on 3ds after but that has horrible difficulty spikes. I’m looking at you mining robot. Leave Fusion and the dread until last.
Is that worth playing?
No
Much less IMO
Same
If you want to get into Metroid I'd maybe try them in order, but playing the remakes specifically
Zero Mission, Samus Returns 3DS (if you can, if you can't maybe wait because the gameboy game is kind of rough, there's also AM2R), Super Metroid, Fusion, Dread
You can toss the Prime games in there if that interests you
I got the Crissaegrim immediately when I got to the upside down library the first time I played SOTN and I don't know if I'll ever beat that high. Didn't know what it was or why the game was suddenly so broken.
I haven't gotten it yet in my limited playthroughs
I just don't dig SOTN nearly like Metroid
Never got it since, honestly. In any version 😄
I will say that the Redux hack for Super Metroid really streamlines things and helps with the feel. Long time purists may balk but I like the updated map and gravity
It’s like a 1 percent drop from those ghost head looking things in inverted castle. Not that bad. I find the sword that you throw and it returns like a boomerang more fun to play with.
I don't think 'drop rates' was even in my vocabulary back when that game was new.
I thought it was a replay only item tho, from Shmoo. Like ring of varda.
It's in the upside down castle but I definitely got it on my first run through the game.
Shmoo or something yeah lol
My first play through I didn’t farm it and it just dropped, however at that time I was already op and about to close out the game and kill drac
Second play through was with my gf so I could help@her make the game easier
In my head I got it earlier, but it's later in the game than I thought.
And I farmed it. In terms of video game farms its not bad
Hmmm. I also feel i got it on p1 but never managed since.
The farm loop is like under 3 seconds. I got it under 10 min last week before the saturn core ate 5 hours of save. Luck code of course tho.
So if you don't manually SAVE BACKUP RAM even with autosave on, your game is toast?
That seems to be the key as Castlevania doesn't save at all otherwise
I think all you need to do is turn autosave on and just bring up the MiSTer menu before you quit the game
That is def not working : / What is CARTRIDGE. Have i been saving to internal which evidently does not autosave?
I am triggering the save as well. Familiar with that yes.
Ah damn, sorry to hear. I’m unfamiliar with how that game handles saving beyond the basics.
Open the menu to autosave after using the in game save. Sega Saturn have a backup ram cartridge accessory, most games only shows the cart option when a backup cartridge is inserted, but not Castlevania. There is no backup cartridge support yet.
Yeah i don't get it. It worked previously, but maybe i manually used save ram then too. The other times i did not and it did not save. And, it's repeatable; if i don't additionally save backup ram it doesn't in fact save. Not sure if that's expected/ user error or a bug. Had autosave on and always invoke menu of course. Hmm
Beware out there. Thanks again.
Gus from Psych owns one of those and keeps asking people if they remember it.
I've never manually saved backup ram ever, and never experienced an issue with the Saturn core saving. That includes Castlevania SotN. No clue why that's happening on your end though.
my bad yeah that
Fish tank sim
If you can read Japanese, this advert might give info
i noticed saturn games load with "missing cd bios". does that mean i have to place the correct bios next to each game?
you probably have boot.bin 🙂
rename it to boot.rom , bios will automatically load on startup
then there will be no message about "missing cd bios"
For a period of time we used boot.bin because there was a problem with loading the bios via boot.rom (the process ended up hanging the MiSTer) This has been corrected and boot.rom works ok.
thank you 😃
what a surreal game
saturn prototypes 🙂
I was joking around, however, it's got some great fmv stuff going on that is worth seeing.
I'm glad they went with the case they did, the other looks like a big Discman. I also wish the original Genesis/MD had been symmetrical like Genesis/MD 2
I am in LOVE with the left one. Peak early 90s electronics design. ❤️
Left one looks like a VERY night end diskman (and that's not a bad thing), I love em both.
The CDX, now that definitely looked like a higher-end Discman
this is a CRT only game
I just remember the reason I posted this. I left the game running all night to see if this simmed, maybe expected it to multiply or die but it's still alive.
Is there some kind of list being kept of games that already work on the work in progress core?
I have started to prepare such a list, but I do not know if anyone will be willing to help complete it
There are compatibility issues when it comes to older ram revisions
So the tests only make sense with sdram 2.9/3.0 for now
Sorry for the repeated question, but is Snac supported yet. If so which version. Many thanks! 😊
#1046941029296779344 message
It does! And it's currently the only way to get analog triggers to work on the core. My 3D controller works great with it.
Just follow the post that Call me Tim. Tim the Enchanter linked to for the build.
thank you!
Thank you!
how can I check mine without pulling it out?
the Analog I/O board is in the way
I’ve got a Japanese 3D controller, can’t seem to get it to work. I’ve also got a jpn light gun which picks it up but not work correctly, guessing that’s in progress
Think the jpn connectors are a bit more loose, fiddling around with it, seemed to sort it
Where did you get your Saturn SNAC adapter from? The one I got from Misteraddons works fine.
you linked a older build, there's a newer one in pins. should work with chd and probably have a few fixes.
Ultimatemister, it seems a bit loose. After wiggling it, that’s what she said, it works fine. So does my twin sticks. I’m guessing the jpn lightgun side of it is still in the works.
yeah lightgun sensor doesn't work in core yet. alot of the saturn adapters suffer from that problem, just be aware of it and maybe try not plugging it in all the way or backing it out a bit after you do.

But you got Bug, it’s an insect game, you should be fine.
Guys, I strongly recommend Aquazone for the Sega Saturn. Specially if you need something to leave idling.

posting my waifu Deunan
^_^
Denuvo? Like the copy protection company?
yeah Denuvan
Well, in MiSTer Discord they say – that MARl0's small heart grew three sizes that day.
had a heart enough to power a single ant, can now power a two cats.
That is an impressive drift. The driver must have been playing Daytona before that.
and some ridge racer on the side
Oh Daytona, that’s the lady?
Are we moving to embedded video reactions now
Teach me how
I am pretty sure no one would want to bother doing this but me
What
I am the cat turtle
Not pictured: it's a 97 Civic with a primer grey hood.
I miss my 97 Accord every day
with spoon engines. And on top of that he just came into Harry's and he ordered 3 T66 turbos, with NOS, and a Motec system exhaust
I bet you have all that stuff
I just learned that the Wangan games are on Saturn
previously, I was only aware of the modern Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune games
I really like it
The best thing to leave idling is the spaceship that flies around in the CD player.
Aquazone is a close second.
The ship was cool. But that visualizer PS had was pretty awesome

Always nice to see Darkstalkers
heya guys first time using saturn on mister
what format do the games need to be in
ive ripped my owned games and have bin/cue files
bin/cue or chd to save space
Yes. Or chd. In individual folders. I would add that I've had a lot of trouble saving with Saturn. Make sure it's working for you before playing too much and losing hours.
so chd ok by itseld and I need to folderize the bin/cues
got it
and yeah ive had issues saving on n64 with an actual mem card so I get how hard it is to lose hours of play 😦
ut im greatful these cores are working!
🙂
👍
I don't know what it is, but I can't stop thinking about the red tank from Aquazone. Everytime I load up a game on the core, I immediately want to just go back to Aquazone and let the fishes swim.
It's like having an aquarium with immortal fish in them.
Darius triggers this even worse.
The best day of the week.
I’ve been two weeks since I talked saturn and somehow that feels like months
Best shootemup on Saturn? It's obviously Cotton?
Saturn doesn’t have a good selection of shmups
yeah it's true
saturn not ready for SNAC?
im trying to get a snac adapter and saturn controller working on it
#1046941029296779344 message
no its a special build

best shmup on saturn
Saturn has a GREAT selection of shmups!

ok so I have the SNAC working in Saturn but the keys are all mismapped? Im using a saturn gamepad and left shoulder button is start , some of the directions dont work, tried to map in no dice?
what am i doing wrong?
1 is it retro-bit.
2 does it require a level shifter?
i dont for any other core
you should
unless the adaptor has level shifters installed in it
without it you risk damage to the DE10 and /or the controller
even my SFC controllers go thru a level shifter despite it appearing to just work with 3.3v set on the io
5v into 3.3 v is bad
5v rail turned off
yes I am just saying
thats what the shifter is for to deal with the different voltages
it's ok, lot of dumbdumbs round here. you never know
#1046941029296779344 message !!!!
PC Engine says hi
Anyone else use an N64 controller to play on the Saturn core?
Never! I hate n64 controller
probably using a blissbox saturn cable
I didn't like it when I was a kid, but with adult hands its not as bad as I remember it.
I'm glad I don't have to use it and there are alternatives 🙂
Yeah true. I just find it neat that I can play just about every core on that controller. with the exception of PSX. like with SMS/NES you can use C left/right as A/B in a horizontal layout. or C right/down for A/B in a diagonal layout like on the gameboy systems
For Saturn, I've discovered that the SHMUPs it shares on PlayStation sometimes do have certain advantages like less loading screens, but I need to check Thunder Force side by side because Saturn feels like it lags more.
I use this one for Saturn. It has a switch that maps L3 & R3 to the L1 & L2 shoulder buttons, and maps L1 & L2 to the R1 & R2 shoulder buttons letting me fully map ABC, XYZ, and L & R. The R1 & R2 face buttons are left alone.
Oh that is neat!
i use it for N64 as well for games that don't require analog stick for movement (quite enough of them surprisingly)
Oh yeah I wanted to bring up how close to arcade perfect Mortal Kombat 2 and UMK3 are on the Saturn :O
the PS1 version of MKII begins to slow down after a few matches and feels off the whole time.
Haven't tried MK Trilogy on Saturn
Saturn UMK3 is basically arcade perfect, except a couple stages have the wrong music
MK Trilogy on all 3 consoles are each like different games, physics and mechanics wise. They really didn't optimize any of them to a standard like UMK3
Hence why a lot of classic MK tournament communities use UMK3 instead of MKT
It would be nice if there were romhackers who could address these issues
a romhacker should also update the assets with the arcade assets
ok so decided to load up MK Trilogy on Saturn (how hard can it be to not instinctively load up Aquazone instead?) and it also feels like the menu and character select have some sort of input delay. I know right? worrying about that in the menu? I don't remember the PS1 version having stutter at the end of a match when the announcer says "Finish Him" mid combo though. That's mildly important because I felt like I could drop my combo during the stutter.
👆
im using a blissbox cable with
https://ultimatemister.com/product/ultimate-snac-mini-hdmi/
SNAC PSX and Saturn are wired different than Blissbox.
The saturn cable porkchop sells "should" work with that. I noticed that Ricardos not listing the saturn cable there so I can't blame him. Sorry for the inconvenience.
N64 controller is an excellent Saturn controller. Fight me!
I used the Retro-Bit Tribute 64 V2 wireless with the Saturn core as a 3D pad and it worked great (aside from not being able to use analog buttons)
It has 6 face buttons and two shoulder buttons!
Raphnet DC adapter works great with MiSTer. It took awhile to figure out the mapping, but I got the DC Twin Sticks working with Virtual On!
I'm waiting for that to come back in stock and went ahead and ordered the stand alone Saturn SNAC from Ultimate Mister. I did get SNAX with FC, NES, and SNES adapters from Mister Addons.
that's looks like it should work too although I've never tried it.
And an excellent d-pad!
I wish 6 face buttons had become the norm
Every time I play SF on consoles with a pad I think about what could have been
I should buy that Saturn pad that has the USB
Do they make one that dumps the touchpad and puts another stick on there?
It would be nice if the core supported analog movement. the 3d controller is how I originally played nights into dreams iirc
trying to play that game on MiSTer, the movement is pretty sensitive
It does support it. You have to set your controller in the Saturn menu to 3D pad and it automaps Analog 1 as the 3D thumbstick. That being said, it might need to be clamped for your controller. And analog triggers do not work currently.
SNAC is the way to go right now (since it has analog triggers and all the current features of the mainline core), but reflex does a great job with an og controller as well.
Ohh
yeah I have a DS3 and N64 controller with raphnet USB
I might try it out with each
What do you need a second analog stick for to play SF on a pad?
I assume he just means that it would have more uses outside of Street Fighter if it had a second analog stick.
I want it all. Six face buttons, two sticks, haptics, and all the good stuff. A pad just for SF is cool but what if it was just THE pad I played everything on?
😃
There is no one pad to rule them all. It’s just how it is.
Realistically, the list of games that utilize a second analog on mister period is very slim.
There's always that new Saturn controller with dual analog sticks I suppose:
Who makes that one
retro bit

I still wanna know if these can be run through the USB port instead of wireless.
me love m30 controller , not interested in retro bit
im very dubious of the analogs on that controller
Don't see the point of putting so microscopic analog sticks on a controller. On a handheld sure, but not a controller. Then better just switch to a proper analog controller
I am not convinced by this solution either
I was wondering what those buttons on the bottom were supposed to be. 😅
Is there a better six button dual stick out there?
Problem with retro-bit is they didn’t add the analog triggers so even that can’t fully support the Saturn.
I hope so, but Retro-bit's wireless Legacy 16 and Tribute 64 controllers didn't.
retro-bit keeps dodging this question
they'll gladly say "no plans to make a wired version" but they never answer if the wireless one supports wired mode.
not even a "we'll relay interest in a wired mode to the team" and I'll be at ease that they acknowledge the fact that someone wants some form of wired usage.
Time to go back to wireless controllers using IR
Has anybody tried Asuka 120% on real hardware? I wanna know if the menu looks like this or if it's an emulator/core issue
🤔
oh so this is intended
how odd
Shit, I remember seeing TV remotes that had cables running to the TV.
I never knew anyone who had one and I remember being the biological channel changing mechanism as a kid but they existed.
This was a balance patch released for asuka 120% limited in the late 90s from the bankrupt devs. It was never finished and your only means of playing it was somehow applying a patch to a saturn game back then
I'm assuming they managed to implement the important parts for it to be circulating then.
Yes the game part of it was complete
I honestly never got good at this game but I'm trusting this is the definitive version
they had instructions for patching as well as swap trick-style shenanigans for playing
oh right, archive links are banned eh
it's footnote 4 here: https://segaretro.org/Asuka_120%25_Limited_Burning_Fest._Limited
I wonder who came up with the idea of the swap trick and what impulsed the person to go "fuck it, let's see if the first game stays in the RAM while I trick it to read off the non-game"
I'm sure it had real engineering knowledge behind it and not blind experimentation.
I did something like this, was able to run Street Fighter Alpha once, a bunch of people tried messing with it. Got corrupted graphics in some game too.
Also found out that the Saturn System Discs unlocks the drive as soon as they are authenticated, the completed Sega Screen is just for show. Used to unlock the drive using swap trick.
I booted holding A, used a mod to hold the drive switch in closed state, when system disc tries to authenticate, change to original disc, authentication finishes -> drive unlocked until a power cycle.
I don't remember what game on PS1 gave me the idea to swap in a disc. I think it was in a manual, but it invited the user to change the music with their own disc.
Vib Ribbon is one of those games.
I definitely did not have that in the 90s
Hey dudes, does Shining Force 3 work?
lemme try
gonna take a minute, need to obtain
thanks for saving me the effort
Oh so it does kinda work, it crashed my Mister upon loading it. I was using a CHD file, is that not supported?
chd is supported
The only report I've ever made on github!
I appreciate your report and hope it gets resolved. I had just started a playthrough the day before you made it.
Why does Magic Knight Rayearth sound like a shmup?
because ||in a certain part, it is||
Kid Icarus is only a shmup for one stage.
Youd think it would be a shmup the whole way.
But no, thats Ares no Tsubasa/Legendary Wings
So it goes.
Didn’t I complain about Kid Icarus and you taught me something about it?
There's an English patch for Dragon Force II floating around right? Is that patch pretty solid?
ridge racer does this i think
It would be cool if it could detect the music and display it on the lettering.
I've only tested it a bit, but it seemed solid enough.
Sweet.
this happens when using a medical herb too fyi. and it happens in the US release of SFIII, and all of the JP versions (scenario I, II, III)+
Out of context, I totally thought you were talking about a bug that only happened when you were high for a second.
So it's been a bit since I last tried the Saturn core on the MiSTer. I just got a second SDRAM installed and need to do some housekeeping (core updates); IIRC I need to grab a different version of the Saturn core?
this happens when using a medical herb too fyi. and it happens in the US release of SFIII
and I was about to ask when do medical herbs show up in street fighter iii
medical herb.
Hadoobie!
So will the v2.5 and v3.0 work together on the Saturn core or will it be unstable and crash? My v2.5 has all kinds of crashing on Saturn core
A lot of games work for me now in v3.0 ram
I'm not even sure there are any benefits at this point to using the dual ram version of the core. Last I heard, it was actually more unstable than the single ram version.
As long as you put the 3.0 in the first slot, I think people have used 2.5 in the second slot without any issues.
Yeah no benefits. Dual ram isn’t needed for MiSTer.
Triples is best. Triples makes it safe.
"Tell her. Tell her I have triples of DDR. And doubles of LAUs. "
Was playing more Sega Rally just now, and I finally managed to get 1st place! Huzzah! 🎉
I got ingame in Grandia
Where is the crash meant to be?
I had some geometry corruption but not much
Grandia should work ok , has anyone reported that it crashes?
Compat spreadsheet says it crashes on the main menu
This list is outdated, no one has verified it for months
There is no point in suggesting it

Report it on github
Yeah? Think I should remove it from the pins?
what do you think?
I think I should remove it based on that info but I also wanted to pose the question in-case anyone felt different.
Yeah , since it is very out of date, it can be misleading
I posted my list above, based on the one from the N64,. maybe someone will want to add to it and improve it

You were doing awesome work, but these days even if you spent 5 hours a day on it, because the core reacts so differently for so many different setups, you'd still be getting people who it wasn't accurate for constantly. I still think it was awesome and am grateful for it, but yeah, it's an impossible task to make accurate anyway in a populist way right now.
Still, amazing and thank you for doing it! I know I appreciated it a ton!
That is super outdated. Grandia has worked for a long time.
I've been playing a lot of Sega Rally this weekend. It works beautifully in single player. 2 player split screen doesn't work for me though
So I played a lot of time trial 😄
It’s a surprisingly timeless game. So limited in options but the physics and track design is so stellar,
It prompted me to go back to the DC version a little. Also just phenomenal.
this game is very addictive 🙂
we played a ton of splitscreen racing on it back on the original hardware
yeah , split screen is broken....
To be honest, I had no idea about it
There was a secret way to race against the dev teams ghost car in one of the versions.
Bet you didn't know about that guys huh?
I know things
About
Games
Of course the best thing bout sega rally is the "game over, yeah!"
Those arcade units with the motion rigs were so rad.
I would love to try one of those.
Last time I saw one was a long time ago down in Gatlinburg, TN
Same place had linked Daytona cabinets too
Track 15: Game Over Yeah!
The soundtrack straight from Sega Rally Championship game on Sega Saturn.
PLEASE NOTE: Any more arguing will be deleted almost immediantley and the user will be blocked. You have been warned. The video's I have posted are meant for enjoyment and entertainment purposes only. Also don't put advertising bullshit in the c...
Game over doesn't have to be sad.
Just have them play that at the funeral.
just an idea i had for awhile featuring Gunsmith Cats & Daytona USA
is there a "best bios" i can use for JP saturn?
if i use the hitachi hi-saturn one, do i have to connect the mister to my car's cigarette lighter?
As far as we know, the different bios files have no affect on the games themselves. So in that regard there is no wrong answer.
But there are hacked versions of the bios that bypass region locking, which is recommended if you don't want to deal with manually changing the region between games.
ah right, thanks!
hey guys, question. I am not able to change from CD1 to CD2 in Deep Fear. There is no "open lid" option like on the psx. I moved both .bins under the same foldier now and try load Disc 2, no joy. The worst of it tho is that when I boot Disc 1 again, I can't get to a main menu, it prompts me each time now to take out CD1 and insert CD2. Any advice? Is this even doable at this stage, changing Discs?
I think it is not possible yet
I have to watch this anime now
It looks cool.
Its great. Check out riding bean too.
Dominion Tank Police also has great mayhem
Yesh
Any anime with vehicles tearing up roads gets my vote
The car action in the LD arcade game Road Blaster is ridiculous
Could you please send me the save ?
Anyone know where I could find a battery hatch cover for a black Saturn? I want a spare one to cut a hole in for a toggle switch for the Fenrir switcher because the one it comes with won't fit with the FMV cart in the port.
Thank you kindly.
Tempo games have such cool artwork
So now we're re renaming the bios back to .rom or .bin... perhaps that could cause autosave to fail as it has for me?
I can reliably produce a fail-to-save.
the way the bios is loaded has no effect on saving the game state
boot.rom automatically loads the bios
We used boot.bin when there was a problem with boot.rom for a while.
Anyway you could call it what you want , even saturn.bin, kuba.bin it didn't matter. The point was that you had to manually load the bios
at the moment I have 65 saves from different games and every one works well, I have not lost any save.
65 saves, 65 burgers, 65 fries, 65 tacos, 65 pies...
On the wall
For my next trick, I will produce a video of the phenomena. After work.

Happy anniversary to the SEGA Saturn launch in Japan!
I hereby dub today...Saturnday. Huzzah!
me looovveee Saturn
❤️
Crossing my fingers for a new core update 😅
we all have hope 😄
Nice! Hope srg320 is safe.
Let us play games
Of any 32 bit or 64 bit sort
For this is how a good and healthy MiSTer life is lived.
N64 might have TLB but we have Shmups
And fighting games
Good ones I mean..
Yeah, like Fist!
dat rakuga kids pretty gewd tho...

29 and lookin' fine
Lots of shmups have TLBs 😏
I just want perfect sounds on all games!!
Sorry to bother you, could you tell me if you have sound at all (clockwork knight) please? thank you very much
for me the sound is ok in Clockwork Knight - sdram v2.9
thanks a lot ( and oh no 😦 )
Make sure you have everything turned on in the debug menu.
I also have sound
Bodied
Are saturn core problems bios-dependant? mine is Sega Saturn BIOS v1.01 (1995)(Sega)(JP)(M6).bin
this bios is ok
wow hyperfast answer
What version of sdram do you have?
This core is beta (WIP) may not work the same for everyone
I have to try other rom(s) maybe... I have sound problems in earthworm jim 2
bon/cue redump ?
that's what I'm afraid
or chd ?
Different bioses help some games to sound better.
Is there a way to make the core switch the region automatically?
I have USA and Japan CHD, but I always need to change the region and reset
They are in different folders (USA and Japan) with their respective cd_bios.rom files which is correctly loaded but the region doesn't changes
Right now the easiest way is to use a region free hacked BIOS file
Ok I'll look for that. Thanks
Can you give some examples?
When I test in the hunt (usa) and Kaitei Daisensou (jap), I have to close the digital controller before entering the game. Is it possible to solve this problem in the core?
the same problem also occurs in real hardwre
I know that if it is a known error, I think there is no need to fully simulate it. Fixing errors and adding functions are also core parts. If you don't turn off the controller and test it dozens of times in a row, he can accidentally enter the game. . .
you would have to make a hack for the game , because it is related to a bug in the game not in the hardware
I understand, thank you for your explanation
Sure, deep fear and Daytona as example. I have 5 or six different bioses. Good results with the hisaturn ones.
But it is related to any specific configuration ?
sdram etc ?
because these games work the same for me on every bios
I play on an mms, with build in ram. Not sure wich version the ram is really based on.
Hello, can somebody please tell me if anyone has finished (or started) Panzer Dragoon Saga ( AZEL -パンツァードラグーンRPG- )
and if so, are there any errors?
I didn't see anything that looked bad , but as I wrote I only played for an hour 🙂
thanks, but I think you have played Panzer Dragoon not the RPG? I have been looking for the messages related
AZEL -パンツァードラグーンRPG- is maybe the best Saturn game ever
in my opinion*
nah i stard playing RPG
ah! ok
Panzer Dragoon I completed 2 times
was it hard to find the rom? I'm not asking for anything illegal, just if yes or not
easy to find 🙂
Unfortunately, I don't know how it is with changing discs with this game
For example, it is now impossible to change the cd in Deep Fear
have you put all the bin cue files inside the same folder (if names differs)?
yes you have done it surely
and save the game and then replace the bins and cue in the same folder?
yes all four cd's should be in the same folder
unfortunately, I don't know how the cd change looks like in this game
sort of original xbox hot swapping discs hack 20 years ago?
we don't have the option to open the lid etc
we'll see when we get to the end of the first disk 🙂
in Deep Fear game there is a message about changing the disk, you need to insert disk 2 , but there is no option to open and close the lid , so loading disk 2 does not do anything.
maybe someone who has played the game on real hardware can say more (Panzer Dragoon Saga )
@vestal yoke yes , there is save at the end
A complete recording of the entire first disc of Panzer Dragoon Saga (PAL version). This was all recorded using SSF 0.10, HyperCam 2.14.02 & a legitimate copy of the game. Since this was being played on SSF & emulation is never 100%, expect to see a couple of graphical bugs here & there.
Worst case scenario, boot selecting the game folder, hold A to force into cdplayer, then load the other disc, the cdplayer should show start application, hopefully with the same internal ram, allowing to load the game.
I have to search if there is a converter for gamesaves from emulators to Saturn FPGA core...
yeah works
after the last save on disk 1 , you need to rename the save file to the name of disk 2 for core to see this save
and works
disc2 🙂
this way you can complete the game
wait there's no disk switching function yet?
you can swap discs but i dont think it attempts to emulate the lid open / swap disc / lid close process
so some games don't notice
or easy way , load cd1 , than select disc 2 , reset the game , there will still be a save from the previous disk in memory
psx had a bunch of games like this - probably worth logging github issue for it
yes, opening and closing the lid is needed for sure
For Policenauts, when the change disk message appears, load/change the disk with the OSD.
Then select “Reset” on the OSD and you can skip the BIOS animation by pressing a button on your controller.
The second (or third) disk will load automatically.
I don't need to rename anything, just to have all the disks in the same folder.
in Panzer Saga when there is a message about changing the disk you have to go to bios , select disk 2 and do a reset and it is ok. But if you restart core , load cd2, the save is not visible because it is assigned to cd1 (name)
has CHD support for Saturn core moved to stable main yet?
yes, but SNAC hasn't
i'm doing this this weekend
Is this any good?
@warm mica nothing bitfunx is good
also I would not call that colour saturn
"supporting" bitfunx is like donating to the anti-patreon
where you take money out of creators pockets
no update yet?
Nope
Y'all this came in
And it's minty fucking fresh. Shoutouts surugaya
I'm beyond hype
So now the question is, getting this working on the Saturn core - and I don't think my virtual on sound works right now on the current core anyways but here it is
That looks glorious, congrats!
Thanks! First I need to test it with my 360 and VOOT
Hopefully that all goes well. It's a very high quality dual stick. I'm kinda blown away.
It's got nice clicky microswitches, probably something like a sanwa JLF innards?
I think CyberSled was announced for Saturn but never had it
Wait a minute... Did the Saturn have ANY namco games?
is bitfunx bad? i ordered a few things (mostly PSU replacements)
Sony and Sega were rivals at home, and Namco and Sega were rivals in the arcade
so Sony and Namco teamed up to make money and beat Sega, and basically succeeded at both
Time Crisis and HotD on the same console would've been pretty great
especially if that console were the PS1
beauty
sound definitely worked for me a couple weeks ago when i was messing with my saturn twinstick
I'll have a look today; unfortunately my mister build seems to be middle of the road on this cores compatibility. Not the worst. Not the best.
Dunno if the snac has anything to do with core sound
Does it?
shouldn't
Do I have to do anything special to get my controllers recognized on saturn? I want to get a bunch of people on bomberman, but it only registers two controllers plugged in
yeah no sound for me unfortunately
just works for a split sec them gonez
actually virtual on doesnt seem to work on my mister
I just get stuck here
This is really fun with one stick tho 😆
Although it's not analog so it's kinda weird to play it in either mode, like return to center and not 😦
I bet it's great for like, F-Zero
ooh StarFox would be good too - basically just any crusty early 3d stuff with digital controls
Oh you mean snes starfox?! Thats another interesting experiment!
You know I never played F zero but you actually switched a another flip in my head which is SW EP1 Racer... Like on dual joystick mode
Btw there is Cyber Sled on PS1 to try out with the new toy
the sticks aren't analog or the game doesn't support analog?
Virtual on twin sticks are not analog
Interesting.
Makes sense for the era but if you had asked me on the street I would have guessed wrong
If you played it a little it’d be really apparent too
The game snaps to the 8 directions very distinctly
I haven't played it in...well, since release on Saturn
The hardware, too. The stick clicks around like a Street Fighter arcade stick, not like a flight sim stick.
Haven't even seen it in arcades very often
Yeah, I would imagine it being a fancy joystick and not a flight stick situation. In my head, it always seemed to have nuanced controls but I haven't touched it in so long.
these sticks are not analog
correct!
oddly enough I played virtual on a TON in the arcade as a kid, along with cybersled, so weirdly I have a lot of memories of these sticks
im not even sure how the psx port of cybersled works actually, I should look that up
The arcade near me had a machine but it seemed to have player 2 side broken about half the time
who needs that to run through arcade mode 😛
who's your favorite trooper?
Looks like the d-pad and the face buttons function as stick movement, and the shoulders function as the stick buttons
...that's if you use Mode B, mimicking the dual-sticks; there's also a more pad-friendly mode
I'm not sure if VO on the Saturn has similar options
Don't remember enough to answer that, I'd need to play it again to get the nostalgia brain running
I mean I was like 8
Or whatever haha
Fair.
I think one of the green guys who did a lot of missiles and had a big laser
There was a LRM style guy named Belgdor that fits that and was one of my favorites.
I'm playing VOOT on 360 with the sticks right now and it's such a blast.
I used this one the most
He had weird tonfas in the first game.
Then this one with the high heels 😄
🤩
I still have a couple of these Kaiyodo/Xebec VO toys
This one looks supercool when set up
Yes, IIRC you can open them and remove a tiny disc
lol, that's awesome
I couldn't remember if the Saturn was unique to that version of the game or in the arcades too
The paintjobs are super cool-looking irl
Yeah, they look rad.
I was always a stompy mech fan in my heart but I learned to appreciate the more agile stuff over time. Virtual On was probably one of the games that helped me get there.
Holy shit!
This experiment got me wondering
What if I hook up a thrust master hotas X to my mister?
Will that basically read as a mission stick aka analog stick?
So I could play nightstriker analog? And space harrier?
I'm sorry to be the clueless one but I was looking at a blueretro adapter for my saturn and was thinking i could just use my M30 on mister once the saturn core is in a nice complete state
But is it expected for this core to work on a mister with a fast (146 mhz) 128 ram module and analog output board when its in a release state?
It does now
ok great i'll look forward to using it then
I loaded up Sonic Jam yesterday because my son was interested in the special features in Sonic World and he started running around in there doing the mini challenges. Then I remembered Sonic World supports analog so I changed the settings to try it. The analog worked, but it was hilariously slow, he probably capped out at half his full speed.
Also despite being analog it seems like you still only move in 8 directions, just at variable speeds.
I've played Sonic Jam with my 3D Saturn controller with SNAC, and it was perfect. Sounds like your analog stick is being read as a d-pad since it's restricting you to 8 directions.
Interesting. I should investigate further.
is the saturn core faster than native hardware? twinbee yahho seems a lot faster than on my saturn
not a bad thing but just wondering. im using a hi saturn bios if that matters
I don't believe so. But it is still a work in progress, so some games may not perform exactly as they did on original hardware yet.
my saturn starts chugging on some parts, while the mister doesnt
it feels a bit like playing one of those no-slowdown patches for snes gradius 3
@everyone I need some help with the Dual Ram core. I bought a digital board and have 2 x 128 MB a 2.5 and a 2.9). When I launch the dual sd ram core I only have a black screen and I can’t even open the menu ; the Mister freezes. Is it a pb of my setup or do I need to do a fresh install after changing my setup ?

Wow...
- do you have the mister set to dualsdram mode?
- which version of core are you using?
- don't use everyone
#1046941029296779344 message latest dualsdram test core
- no I didn’t know about it
- the latest
- sorry about that I didn’t know and won’t do it anymore
https://misterfpga.co.uk/dual-sdram-mister-fpga/ dualsdram guide
Thanks a lot
And use 2.9 sdram as a primary
Since we're all here now... Hi, everyone! 😄
@sharp mauve If you think there is an issue with TwinBee Yahho, you can make a post about the problem on the official GitHub page.
howdy, happy start to the week
@mortal mist I just tested. Now I can launch the core and I was able to launch many games except Radiant which is supposed to work... Maybe I need two 3.0 ram instead of my combo 2.4 / 2.9...
Primary sdram is 2.9?
Yes
I have 2.9 and 1.1 (old 32 sdram) and Radiant works
With single 2.9 works too
Check your bin/cue
I have two iso of the game and one doesn’t launch and the other one stops on the bios menu with awful slowdowns
Redumps?
Maybe… And BTW the isos are on an USB drive
👌 thanks
It's like there's a party in my Saturn thread and everyone is invited! 🎉
This just had me checking to see if there was a new update 😄
Something about the boot.rom bios ? Is it still the same name ?
Yes , boot.rom
I tried the redump version… Same result
Honestly, I would really just recommend using the single ram build of the core. Pretty sure it's actually more stable at this time than the dual ram build anyway. Just my recommendation though! There's certainly no harm in testing out the dual ram build.
Nor the Single or dual version works for me with Radiant Silvergun. I give up tonight and thanks again @mortal mist for your help
No difference for me , I checked all the games I own with dualsdram and single, works the same
Hey dudes, a lot of roms stop at the bios screen for me now, did something change?
The games used to start fine
Magic knight rayearth for example
No , there were no changes
There was no change , no new core, everything the same old way 🙂
😃
It’s sure been a while since we heard from srg. Anyone had any contact?
no
The first stage for Mobile Suit Gundam for Sega Saturn with localized English dialogue.
Follow the project: https://segaxtreme.net/threads/mobile-suit-gundam-english-beta-0-2.25419/
progress on the Gundam translation just uploaded to yt
It means something big is coming.
Fixed audio (across the board) and no more dark FMVs in Sakura Wars are at the top of my wishlist. 😄
I can see it out there on the horizon
Clouds gathering
Lightning arcing
Something big....
I’m guessing it wouldn’t have been added to main unless srg320 felt confident he was close to the end
Is it time for me to make another one of my bold predictions for the next core build release date!?
Do it!
It's an eternity 🥺
That is true. But the spirits who communicate the future to me never lie! ||This claim may or may not have been fabricated.||
I call it next Friday.
I hope we see one soon. To know Srg is good at the minimum and to test more Saturn
Every day is Saturnday in our hearts. 🥹
I'm asking Srgnta for vdp timing fixes.
I think he's trying to clear out everything in one go, based on the multiple problems reported.
I think he is in a war zone and so probbaly has more important things to think about than a FPGA core
I hope he is not there anymore
Yeah, that's partly why we want to hear from him! Knowing he is okay is more important than any core update. But the core updates are also a sign that he is okay.
I don't know where Srg is in Ukraine, but some co-workers I have there were without power for a few days due to an ice storm.
hes in the Russian Occupied NE
Ah, so this is further away.
but while the core can distract him. A Warzone is far from ideal to develop or even want to develop
Anyway Politics and Wars are off topic in here
I hope he has managed to move to another location, the last time he posted on patreon was 31 October, let's hope he is ok
Mentioned this in the controllers thread, but my Retro-Bit Saturn wireless pro controller arrived today. It's...not great so far.
oh? it's not?
Button mapping is funky. And the d-pad doesn't feel as good as a real Saturn controller.
I've figured out the button mapping stuff, but there's no solving the d-pad not feeling great. Left and down on the d-pad feel like they don't press in far enough. Whereas up and right feel pretty good.
It also doesn't support a wired connection mode.
I'm very happy with my M30s
Not a big deal for me personally, since I'd rather use it wirelessly anyway, but I can see a lot of people not being happy with that.
The M30's d-pad is way better.
It really is a great controller. If only there was a 2.4 GHz SNES controller that was as good 😩
Everyone I know would want their eulogy read by someone like Morgan Freeman or David Attenborough (Sir), but for me it'd be Victor Caroli
Mae West is dead, so Im out of luck
hi guys
I was testing the sonic 3d blaster, the game ran fine, but the game was not saving.
some one else with the same problem?
Sonic 3D Blast on Saturn don't use the internal ram.
There were two typos in the register masks in vdp2_pkg.sv - I don't think it's going to fix anything...they were in masks for vram size (but just version, 8000 vs 800F, and I don't think version is used by anything) and Line Color Screen Enable. This one was set to 0x3FF instead of 0x3F. Since it wasn't overmasking I'm guessing it's probably not going to fix anything. But I built a single ram build with the two masks updated to doumented spec. Nothing seems to be fixed or broken in my limited testing though.
I will keep testing a bit and make sure nothing is worse and throw it on the stack on Github, but if you happen to find out it blows up Cleveland or something, let me know.
Srg took the change, so he's safe! Which is awesome every time I see it
Temper your expectations, folks. It really was a do-nothing fix I'm pretty sure....
So then this is the most current now (rather than the one in the unstable-nightlies area)?
No, that's the newest cli build. Always use those over what someone posts in the chat if you can. I didn't submit the version flag because that looked intentional, so it's basically the same as what I posted, but built through official github toolchains.
Unstable is the way to go, despite what my guidance counselor said.
(I think I get what you mean) but stick to the unstable-nightlies build basically, yeah?
Yeah, unless you're actively testing a fix, I would.
I just wanted a few eyes before I submitted. And the pipeline builds are quick so it's never a long wait.
Thanks. I really don't understand the coding side of all this but it good to hear SRG is okay.
Cheers Andy. Just knowing Srg is safe as a result is more than good enough
don't blow me up, please! 😬
Awwww man anybody done any testing yet ?
I was just about to say "NEW BUILD?!" but then I read the changes. Still exciting to see srg is doin okay!
Never know though, maybe this was the biggest change in performance the core has ever SEEN!
Andy D is to blame!
It was my only goal
yes , it was predictable
Your efforts are appreciated
Finally sat down and unlocked the entire roster !
Game plays pretty well except for a couple of stages with cages
Or a lot going on in the background ..
I loved that game at the time.
I don't much recall how it handled the characters without armor fighting the ones with armor though.
Fighting Vipers had some interesting ideas that had to mesh into that somehow.
They just chose a couple attacks in each VF character’s move list to be their armor-smashing attacks.
Picky is the man!
Game developers know what's up, I guess. I'd have been trying to figure out how to shatter the outfits of VF characters
Those stay on lol
Quit dick riding !
Off of Andy’s nuts please lol
Could we please not
He doesn't like us anymore 😔
And more seriously, @burnt matrix I hope everything is ok !♥️
this up arrow
Robby’s fine. He might love the Dreamcast more now, though, because he just got one of those ornaments for his Christmas tree
Gonna need to reconfess his Saturn allegiance
I feel like a fake Saturn fan twice over. I eventually bought a PSX back in the day and on the MiSTer I've been digging around in PSX rpg's I missed originally. 😦
I think I bought a PSX for Metal Gear and Bushido Blade
But I couldn't let go of my Saturn for a long time 😄
Import Saturn gaming was great back then
Now we have arcade cores for many of the killer Saturn ports
I remember ordering the mail-in voucher version of VF1 with VF2 textures. Best version of VF1 there was.
in my head, at least.
im a psx/n64 guy through and through. saturn i never played once growing up. even playing now, while i did find a lot of titles i liked, most i found kinda meh. astal is one i just don't get the love for. panzer dragoon games i can get. magic knight is one i want to play through. preferred the saturn baroque. night and daytona are pretty good for a short play of fun.
Radiant Silvergun
Dragon Force is an all-timer for me
those are the ones ive tried. dragon force is one i want to give a go eventually
I never really connected with Taromaru, but it has moments
Guardian Heroes maybe doesn't hold up in 2023 but holy shit did we play a fuck ton of it when it was new
One day, I'll give Silhouette Mirage some time
GH.. i really tried
We played through all the endings and put a fair bit of time into the versus arena mode
megaman 8 was different enough to replay... but also a few stages make me dread playing it on either system
Yeah, that's the rough part. A lot of games came out for both and sadly many of them were better on PSX
i still have nightmares where i wake up screaming JUMP or SLIDE
like Bob said though, the MiSTer has some great cores of what were amazing Saturn versions in its day
Neo Geo and CPS
No need to mess with the Saturn port if you have the actual arcade core available
"JUMP JUMP SLIDE SLIDE DIE DIE DIE" rocking back and forth
Saturn ports still have extras, CD music, etc
That's true
Like Alpha 3 is great
"rocking" back and forth. I see what you did there!
Got a question, guys. Is it theoretically possible for this core to eventually support the Netlink via the DE-10 Nano's Ethernet port? I'm not sure that's possible, since the Netlink is technically a dialup modem, but it would be so cool to have some kind of online multiplayer functionality on this.
https://www.segasaturnshiro.com/2021/12/10/bulk-slash-english-fan-translation-twin-sticks-patch-released/ @naive whale did you try bulk slash with the twin stick controls?
or did anyone else?
I don’t have them sadly
of all the things you buy.... this didnt make the cut! damn!
all good I'm gonna mess with it soon muahah
virtual on doesnt run on my mister unfortunately
Hi, I just got the Saturn pro controller from retrobit and I am having problems mapping button L and Z, I have another friend with the exact same issue was wondering if anyone found a fix or know anything about this
whats the issue exactly?
does it map in the joystick configuration? but not in the core?
I can’t map the buttons L and Z on the retrobit pro controller that just released not long ago
