heh, definitely misinformation, the disinformation is my attempts to get Robby to play Criticom
@tall radish I posted the list on google sheets a bit above... still WIP
alot is missing... let me check it out
ok, added
anyone see missing gmaes feel free to lemme know
Did Saturn have Rise of the Robutts? 🤔
PREPARE

JANK
The OG false advertising
lol
I wouldn't call those floors "better"
the lighting looked better
psx was obviously updated graphically
the game is in both Saturn and PSX list
someone else mentioned it has extra content as well in the PSX version

added more games
I didnt know there would be 300 when I started the list.... it might end up with 400
Are you taking edits?
Alien Trilogy on Saturn is lacking the voice overs and slightly downgraded graphics. It also only uses one CPU because the devs couldn't be bothered 😄
the only difference i saw is psx is darker than saturn, but the voice overs is a good point. is the graphics really downgraded?
Lighting effects aren't there on Saturn. It just uses diminished lights. Plus the usual dithering for transparencies.
there is 1,600 games
minus demos
roughty 1,400 something total
quite a lot of them are japanese visual novels though tbf
Where did 1600 come from?
Visual Novels can be pretty good tho, like Policenauts
There was only like ~280 in the US, and maybe closer to 800 in Japan.
lets say 1,000 to 1,200... would that satisfy you? I am just going by my redump folder
ah... that explains it... redump is going to have all the revs for each disc.
according to wikipeida
There are 1031[b] games on this list not including non-game software and compilations of Saturn games. There are 785 Japan-exclusive games, making 75% of the whole list.
i dont download all the revisions just the latest
No need to satisfy me. You're the one making the list.
So 1031 according to wiki. See?
im not putting every game in the list just certain ones
since when is wikipedia 100% accurate?
or any wiki
you arent getting an accurate list from that
Sure. I knew 1600 was high. Was just trying to confirm what I know.
well this is the article if there's a problem to fix in the game list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sega_Saturn_games
This is a complete list of all Sega Saturn games.
The Sega Saturn is a 32-bit fifth-generation home video game console that was developed by Sega and released on November 22, 1994, in Japan, May 11, 1995 in North America, and July 8, 1995, in Europe as the successor to the successful Sega Genesis. The Saturn has a dual-CPU architecture and eight...
I believe it
You should go play some of them. 🙂
It’s a lot of games either way
This is serious business
I'm super serial right now
anyway
75% being Japan exclusive, 日本語が上手になれ my friends
ohhhhhhh
I cant get an accurate number from my folder
but there is more than wikepedia im sure
irrelevant anyway
just listing good and decent games, interesting stuff, etc
Ah. Skeleton Warriors made it. Justice.
Bold choice including the Shanghai games.
So why the Japanese versions of some titles?

like what? might have extra content or updated vs USA
if I have something wrong let me know... its WIP
I need to add notes for things to explain for some games
im no expert I just did research for a few days and my information could be wrong
but for example I added Daytona USA Circuit Edition (Japan) version because its considered the definitive version as far as updates. It is more updated than the USA one
そうだよね〜
日本に住んだら、日本語がうまくならなきゃだろう
Rowanさんはめっちゃ上手らしい
indeed
thank you
if you have other recommendaitons let me know
It’s not like you really need English language for an arcade racing game either
yea not Daytona for sure
am I remembering incorrectly or is Darius II in the works for mister arcade?
or am I confusing that with Gradius II or something
also let me know if saturn has extra content compared to arcade core for any game
cause if its just a port with nothing extra and we have arcade version I am leaving it off the list
Daytona CCE Netlink Edition has all the Japanese improvements, but I agree... totally playable in Japanese. Japan Fighting Vipers has Pepsiman, so that's a given. Gotta have Pepsiman.
Since when did we all startザジャパン語お話しタイムですか? (╹◡╹)
i need salamander 2 to boot then the core will be complete
Seriously tho, if my RAM is a 2.9 module with 2 chips, that’s the best situation to have at the moment, yes?
Though the western Champion Circuit Edition and Japanese Circuit Edition are by-and-large the same game, Circuit Edition adds further tweaks to the formula, creating the definitive copy of Daytona USA for the Saturn. Circuit Edition extends the draw distance even further, swaps some textures and allows the user to set the time of day in which to race in, whether that be night, dusk or morning. On top of this, the arcade soundtrack is now an option, and new drift mechanics have been implemented, making the game control more similarly to the original arcade version.
Ah, but that's why I said Netlink Edition. It came later in the US.
But really: unless you have a modem on your Saturn, just leave the Japanese one.
no ... if you are right I want the usa one
I am right. 😄
i guess i got confused
It's understandable. The names aren't exactly the clearest things. 🙂
Only reason I know all this is that I've been a Saturn nerd since release day.
so CCE Netlink USA is same as Circuit Edition Japan
Yup.
thanks
You're welcome!
if you notice other issues let me know
I will. It's a good list. Should be helpful for people coming into the system.
I wonder if we could get netlink/seganet support
that wouold be sick
i wold imagine it would be possible to emulate the modem
and let people connect to each other and play
Daytona now fixed on the list
thanks to mistahsnart we now have USA Daytona
idk but I would happily hang out in a japango channel
yea you guys can meet all the hot women in here
That’s what people do on the internet nowadays? 🤩
so just me or
can do anything you want on the internet really
guess i gotta delete circuit edition from my redump set
you better be right Raphael
But on RAM tho, the double chip has the better compatibility at the moment?
It’s a literal crapshoot
Oh, guess I misunderstood that.
possibly
ive seen a couple people have issues with the other one
not even related to saturn
I guess I can delete regular USA Championship Circuit Edition ?
or should i keep that in the collection
heh... I found a receipt for you:
"The game had all of the improvements from the Japanese CE release, except for direct link cable support. This versions only addition was the support for Sega's North American Netlink, which was capable of a faster 28.8kbps speeds."
https://www.reddit.com/r/SegaSaturn/comments/6x27jt/daytona_usa_had_four_different_ports_on_the_sega/
Consider it a second cited source. 🙂
interesting I didnt know netlink was faster than seganet
unless its just for that one game
but there arent many games that supported it
its amazing saturn even had multiplayer for a handful of games
I don't know for certain, but I think it's a hardware difference. American modem could hit 28.8, while Japan was 14.4.
I only ever connected to a friend to play Duke Nukem back in the day via Netlink a few times. 😄
Yeah, although in modern times, unless something has changed, supposedly it is better to use a Japanese netlink
i use to use 56k on pc to play a friend in duke 3d
Now, saying that, the main issue might be that lack of “direct cable support”. Serial connection of two misters might be more likely than netlink
pretty sure it was that
thats better than nothing
And if that is the case, you want the Japanese edition?
japanese has serial connection and usa doesnt?
That is how I read the quote you posted.
It says the USA version has all the improvements except direct link.
Whoops, @kindred peak posted
14.4k modem to play ROTT... on a laptop. Thems were the days... of horrible netplay
Haha, yeah, I used to direct dial my friend to play Warcraft
I think we are more likely to get serial support than netlink but I could be wrong. Having netlink on mister would be amazing.
do we have serial link on any other cores?
Lots of cores support serial
cool
i need a 2nd mister
i know you can play serial on ao486 and multiplyer p2p im sure
unfortunately many games dont run good enough but im sure many do too
Yeah. Doom would probably be fine. I had meant to try to setup tcpip in dos but never got around to it.
Would love to see a lan party of misters. If I ever make time to work on fpga things I’d love to build an ne2000
yea would be cool
That’s sad
Ahh damn. That’s a bummer
ご冥福をお祈りします

2001 was a masterpiece but I think I have watched 2010 many more times.
That's the dolphin one, right?
There's a ... lot of other story about the dolphin habitat/scientist it (the set, not the book) was based on if you go digging. Not good. Not enjoyable to read. Drugs and animal abuse.

I’m sorry, I’m going to have to ask you all to stop playing Clockwork Knight. According to this the trademark lapsed and I’m going to purchase it.

Technically Tecnosoft is now Sega. So Thunder Force VI when, Sylvester?
2008
Thunder Force VI is a 2008 horizontal-scrolling shooter video game developed and published for the PlayStation 2 by Sega. The game places the player in the role of a starship that must eradicate the Orn Faust empire before they destroy all of Earth. The player must complete each stage by shooting down enemies and avoiding collisions with them an...

not a mister question, but does anyone have experience installing the bitfunx saturn power supply replacement? I ordered it but my saturn doesn't match any of the 4 pictures of types of saturn, which I need to select the voltage
it's supposedly compatible with all saturns
i think it's probably a type 2 judging by the shape of the original PSU and the individual components, but it's not an exact match
nvm, got her working, it was a model 2
i dont know why the twinbee games arent talked about more
It is compatible with All Saturn models. It can appear confusing at first but I have used 2 of these. 1 for a Japanese Model 1 (which has the PSU mounted to the Lid of the Console and connected via a Cable (rather than being sat on top of Pins on the Motherboard) and a White Japanese Model 2.
Yeah I eventually figured that the pictures were for either the PAL or US NTSC models (since the cases in them are black) and mine is a japanese model, so probably the exact layout of the components on the PSU wasn't identical but the shape and location of the PSU matched the model 2, so I took a gamble, set it to 3.3v and it worked
It depends on how many "Pins / Posts" the PSU has I believe as to which setting you need to have it at. Can't remember off the top of my head but one will have 5V and 3.3V and the other one I think has 9V?
There are 3 PSU form factors that Sega Saturn use, the service manuals apparently call them Type A, B, C.
Type A is only used in VA0 motherboards, it is hold onto the top of the case. Pinouts are gnd, gnd, 3.3v, 5v, (not connected), 9v.
Type B is used in VA1 to 5, it is the “longer” power supply, always 5 pins with pinouts being gnd, gnd, 3.3v, 5v, 9v.
Type C is used from VA6 to VA15, it is the “shorter” power supply. NTSC machines have 4 pins: gnd, gnd, 5v, 5v. PAL machines use 5 pins: gnd, gnd, 5v, 5v, 9/12v.
This explains it 🙂
What monitor is that?
Figured it was one of those, they always look very nice
Too bad it’s euro
B&O sold very little here mostly plasmas as far as I know
Definitely sponge worthy sets
B&O are generally considered pretty high end for consumer crt sets, never had one myself (in the US)

Does this look stinky to you nerds ?
I slayed lots of rivals on the red machines
Also there’s a full stocked bar not pictured to the right of the machines
Cool spot, is this someone’s house that hosts tourneys?
Yep , one of the main local organizers .. great host amazing place
I’m actually pretty lucky the locals are so hardcore
If you start practicing SFVI now we might let you hang ..
one day when i have a bit more knowledge I'd like to do a big writeup for CRT's for europeans, most of the info out there is aimed at americans, assume that you only have component or nothing, and so on
Its not the spaces, Taco. Its the neckbeards that occupy them
imo having a PVM is nice (i have one) but if you live in europe just getting a good consumer set with SCART is probably a way better option
Are the red ones some kind of vs chewlix? They look connected. Also was it you who broke the top off the right chewlix? 😉
Stop stereotyping us .. there’s only two neckbeards out of like 12 main dudes
Lol
I apologize, I've walked into too many card shops and been knocked flat by the miasma
As long as they aren’t smash players they should be fine
Yeah tcg players are the stinky ones
Correct on the vs chewlix , they are hooked up to a pc with steam for SFVI or any modern fighter you would ever wanna play
Thanks for watching!

Been trying out Croc on the SEGA Saturn core.
The intro cutscene had an absolute fit and it somehow restarted the core back to the BIOS menu. So that was... cool?
The stange part is that playing the game actually works fine. Still some visual glitches, but it is stable.
Id imagine cheaper. Just getting a 15khz RGBS signal on a crt period is nice enough for most.
Everything is better on Dreamcast
yeah it's way cheaper, the set i put up there was just for free, it just cost me 1 vertebra carrying it to my car
Small sacrifice!
Ybpbr component is fine for most - maybe I’m just blind but I really can’t tell the difference
my pvm set me back 300 euros or so
damn
Ahhhh... the before times.
it was confusing when i first got into this stuff though because so much of the material about it online is aimed at a US audience and just goes straight to "YOU SHOULD GET A PVM" because you don't have scart there (right?)
i still like having mine just for the sharpness and because it's nice and compact, but there's just 100 easier options, as long as you get an NTSC compatible TV and don't forget to throw out your PAL collection
Yeah its a different thing in Europe
If you find a CRT that supports 60hz with an RGB SCART input that's all most would need
I don’t think “you should get a PVM” is great advice in the US either, most will be fine with component and it’ll be loads cheaper
Especially at current prices
my first "gaming" crt in the 00s was a 32 inch SD with component in. It worked decently well, until I started buying pcbs with slightly off or way off spec from 60hz sync rates, then I had to get an XM29+
I guess yeah if you're into arcade stuff that changes things
PCs too. RGBI/CGA/EGA, 24khz, etc
yeah for sure, multisync is a whole other thing as well
I'm mostly into just consoles, so 15khz is fine for me
Is that your Vaus controller?

Major update to the Saturn curated list
Thanks for the reminder, just added that to the Your Questions Answered pin - #1046941029296779344 message
Sorry that took so long!
for the full list check the "SEGA Saturn Collection" and the "PSX Vs. Saturn?" tabs on the bottom. Because the PSX Vs. Saturn is a bunch of games on both platforms that I don't know which is better, although some are near identical.
The games on PSX that are known to be better on Saturn are on the "SEGA Saturn Collection" tab
also there are non-redump prototype and hombrew tabs
Some unreleased prototypes for platforms never make it to redump sets... and redump doesn't do homebrew at all.
if we figure out games better on PSX or Saturn on the "PSX Vs. Saturn?" tab for which platform is better, they get moved to another tab
Salamander Deluxe Pack is pretty much equal on PSX
Capcom Generations 1-5 are better on PSX, except for Ghouls n Ghosts specifically
Capcom Generations is in the Arcade tab since those are the best versions, right?
or do the consoles offer something different?
if arcade and neogeo makes the console versions irrelevant I put them in the arcade core tab
There are some music track arrangements for Capcom Generation 1-5. Volume 5 specifically (Street Fighter 2) has full arranged soundtrack optional
The Saturn resolution is lower than a bunch of the original arcade ports
None that I know of
alright... whiich volumes do i need to add besides 5 from arcade to psx
thanks for the info
i cant do it all myself
i know 3do street fighter 2 has unique soundtrack I think
Cyberbots - Fullmetal Madness (Japan) (1M) - More playable characters, full voice acting for story segments, but has some cut frames even with 1M
Vampire Savior is not listed with (4M), X-men vs Street Fighter is listed as (1M) but should be (4M)
All 5 of them. Only one specific game on one of the volumes, Ghouls n Ghosts has an issue on PSX where the brightness is too dim and its better on Saturn
why? there isn't differences I dont think between the labels as its just whats printed on the disc. However I am going off of latest redump. There is no vampire savior 4M anymore or X-Men vs Street Fighter
I was under the impression you were using those indicators to show either required or optional RAM cart requirements
Ok well, thats up to you
So what do the M markers mean?
Historically when referring to Saturn titles, it indicates what RAM cart is required.
its a number printed on the disc
its irrelevant
only Revision matters
ill be back in a bit to continjue
Gotcha. Only confusing due to the dual meaning in the Saturn context.
yea, redump doesnt specify anything with ram cart in the filename title
if they did it would say like 4MB or something
Just out of curiosity, what qualifies as 'better'?
If you like it more than the last one
Last one? 🤨
Referring to the topic of comparing games that exist on both Saturn and PlayStation.
What criteria is being used to state one is 'better' than the other?
Id think the criteria would differ game to game, but if you mean the curated list there I dont know
Fair enough. I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Was just curious what the determining factors were. 🙂
Why did nobody come to my house and tell me how good this core had gotten?
Fun fact. Marvel Superheroes had restored animation frames with the 1MB cart, and while the 4MB cart worked it caused even more slowdown for the already slowdown plagued game.
It had a 3MB option IIRC
As in base 2MB + 1MB cart?
Like performance, audio quality, extra content, graphics. It says Better (or Unique)
Not factoring in controller, cause some say Saturn versions are better just cause the D-pad is better, but with MiSTer that is irrelevant since we can use anything
Thanks. Looking forward to checking out that list soon.
There is currently over 100 games I don't know which is better... but some are identical
or too close to call
there are over a hundred megadrive games they get harder they get faster
I’m confused as to what that 3MB mode would be in addition to 1MB mode? There’s a 1MB ram cart and a 4MB ram cart.
well those have alien technology called "Mega Tech"
I’d think 3MB is 2MB + 1MB cart but then what is 1MB?
for marvel?
Yeah. MSH came out before the 4MB cart and I don’t think it had extra frames when using it - just extra slowdown. I used to own a pile of SNK/Capcom games and both RAM carts.
Marvel Super Heroes... just has Japan, Europe, and USA discs. They don't specify Ram. As for menu options not sure
The RAM carts worked on the US version. That’s how I played it.
but all 3 discs should be teh same in terms of Ram functionality
or one would have a revision or something
Maybe it did have extra frames on the 4MB but I never used it because it slowed down so much
they are likely all 4MB
unless its only for a certain region
if one region is better ill give it priority if you know
but its something requiring research to find out
I give USA priority unless Japan is better for some reason (extra content, etc.)
but its not like I am deep researching every single game
so lets try this one now
oh this is just arcade
this site has no marvel for saturn so that means all 3 regions are likely identical
with no revisions or even M inner-ring disc stamp versions
so now we check whats up with ram carts
When I played it, I used a US game, on US console, and the 4MB ram cart that comes with the Xmen Vs. SF JP import. I experienced heavy slowdown after the first few matches. I don't have an official 1MB cart available to test this.
oh wait... this is the wrong game he is talkin about
oh nevermind he means the cart that comes with xmen vs sf
That thread is reminding me now… I kept my 1MB cart even after getting the 4MB not just because 4MB caused slowdown in MSH but it simply didn’t work in Samurai Spirits 4.
I know there are issues with more than one game with what Ram cart you are using 1mb vs 4mb
I can add a note to help with that for the core if we get accurate info
Then you got your lonely KOF95 ROM cart in the corner that never gets used because your cartridge port is getting flaky and you don’t want to make it hard to play XvSF.
I wanna say king of fighters had an issue too
iirc
The Official RAM Cart that SHOULD be used with Capcom RAM compatible games is the 4MB RAM cart (which is translucent in appearance). For use with games such as XMvsSFighter & MSHvsSFighter, VSaviour, D&Dragons etc. The 4MB RAM Cart can be used with SNK's titles (that use the 1MB RAM cart), however, it is NOT compatible with all of them and causes graphical corruption and unexpected errors in some instances (SS3 & RB1 immediately spring to mind).```
Except - MSH worked with the 1MB cart because it came out before the 4MB.
It’s all so weird and janky.
happens to be a bit of an obscurity really, when it comes to the use of RAM. Not only because it appears to affect the game in a negative way, but because the game was never officially announced to support Capcoms 4MB RAM cart.
The game was never bundled with a RAM cart pack, unlike it's successors and it makes no reference to the use of RAM as an option in any of the manuals (JP, US or PAL... the latter 2 regions for more obvious reasons). Not only that but the game has been designed to recognise ONLY 3MB of RAM as opposed to Capcoms, seemingly standard, 4MB offering via their OWN cart.
The other thing that is seemingly unique is that Marvel Super Heroes is the only title that ALLOWS the user to make a choice as to whether to run the game with OR without RAM - unlike ALL other titles that force you into having to use RAM to run the game properly. It all comes across as a bit hap-hazard imo ALTHOUGH I do applaud the concept (a seemingly flawed one!) whereby the user was GIVEN a choice of whether to use a RAM cart or not.
SO, ON THE WHOLE...
MSH is a bit of an anomaly, in that it supports the use of RAM but was never officially bundled by Capcom with their own RAM cart.
Another strange occurrence (as shown in an earlier video link, a page or two back) is that MSH, somehow, also recognises the input of SNK's own 1MB RAM cart! Although, I can't remember how well it functions under its usage.```
Interestingly the 4MB option in the core doesn’t cause slowdown in MSH I’m guessing the real 4MB was slower and he didn’t bother implementing that difference.
1) The usage of RAM in MSH doesn't ACTUALLY exist
2) 3MB of RAM was a guessed amount of what size their up and coming RAM cart would support
3) that, in actual fact, inserting a RAM cart actually does F*CK ALL and perhaps only 'activates' the in-games extra animation feature but doesn't actually support it with the RAM it needs, thus why it's so slow and unoptimised under extra RAM mode.
These points would perhaps explain why MSH will run under 1MB > 3MB when indeed, it shouldn't. I reckon that there could be ZERO RAM on the cart and, if the Saturn recognised the connected ZERO RAM cart as RAM in general (although there's none actually there!) that MSH would still run with the extra animation, to the games detriment.```
looks like marvel super heroes is indeed an anomaly situation
Cyberbots is in the same boat
- it also had no ram cart pack-in version
- it also supported the 1MB cart
- it also had a 3MB MODE option in the options
Cyberbots had no slowdown from what I remember. It also had MUCH better quality sound.
Both MSH (JP) and Cyberbots also clearly state that they can take advantage of the RAM cartridge on their covers.```
im just pasting replies im reading
personally I have no idea
still not sure what to put in the Notes on the list
if anything is even needed
So MSH has no 1MB option in its menu. It has 3M RAM mode on or off. So it definitely just means 2MB + 1MB.
What notes are you adding?
for this game, no idea
I dont see the point in even playing it when we have the arcade core
unless it has extra c ontent or something
but I could still add notes to it on the list
if you guys recommend adding some note just let me know what
but you said it works fine on mister and this is a mister list
Extra characters that require cheat roms/patches for arcade
Marvel Super Heroes has extra characters on Saturn vs. Arcade?
Cyberbots is what they meant I think
its probably just the Japan arcade that has more characters
Cyberbots has the extra characters, but also the Gouki mech that isnt in arcade. And all the voice acted story mode stuff.
if something has more content in the arcade tab of the list on console just let me know
oh... alright
Cotton 2 has some similar weirdness. It uses extra RAM in order to have more voice clips play, but the "remix" version Cotton Boomerang drops the ram expansion support entirely with nothing lost.
Not extra - playable Thanos and Anita on both but the code is much easier to input on Saturn.
MSH is fine to keep Arcade
wouldnt the hacked versions be on the mister alternatives?
id have to look
They are
arcade alternatives from update all
alright
but the cyberbots is not available in arcade right
It is
with the extra characters
or is that also an alternative rom
or console exclusive
ill load u mister and check
CRT booting, Check
Static Electricity on hair, Check
Im checking
oh jesus my wireless mister keyboard batteries died
The extra character hack crashes the CPS2 core on MiSTer right now
Go into arcade offset
Is this a list of “best version” of games across platforms on MiSTer?
That you’re working on?
Because that’ll need lots of notes. Games that have more content and are more “fun” on home ports but have inaccuracies from arcade so they’re not used competitively.
See: DoDonPachi, Street Fighter Alpha 3, etc.
He's just making a Saturn list I think
Aah
I fired up Donpachi and was impressed by the number of options they included to try and make the game playable in Yoko mode n
“You want scaling or cropping? Hey we’ll even add scrolling!”
Euro Access Mod?
And I like how Donpachi has options for both “tv” and “rgb tv” where rgb tv is scaled a bit smaller because presumably you can still make out the fine details only over rgb.
There have been a few music hacks for Saturn arcade ports. Notably Batsugun has the new steam release's arranged tracks, and I did a hack for Darius II that adds the PC Engine CD arranged music
i can add those to the arcade tab notes
send a link to the hacks
without the game, if available
I cant put links to actual game downloads, just hacks
and yes the whole list and all tabs are based on saturn
There arent patches for Batsugun or Darius II, but if there were it would still contain copyrighted music to patch in so there wouldnt be a point
They definitely exist probably maybe in a link in my discord profile
For later note - Gradius/Salamander deluxe pack are better on PS1 than Saturn because Saturn can’t do 256px wide mode so it runs the arcade games with wrong aspect ratios.
alright
Probably archived somewhere on the internet if I was to guess.
Someone else was saying there were further issues with Parodius and Twinbee
I dont know about Gradius Deluxe Pack, but I'd imagine the resolution issues are there too
They are
i think there are quite a few wrong aspect ratio on saturn
Was playing it last night
i noticed from screenshots
It’s the same 256px curse that hit SOTN with the ugly hammer on Saturn.
however, we must take into account if there are other issues on psx and weight them against that
As in: the Saturn can’t do it so either you stretch it to 320 or you pillarbox it.
for example if a game on psx has proper aspect ratio, but runs and sounds worse than saturn.... saturn is still probably better
Gradius/Salamander at least don’t have that issue. They’re identical other than aspect ratio.
id say performance and latency is the top 2 priorities
audio could be more important than slightly off aspect ratio too depending on severity
Vampire Savior is another interesting one. It’s technically a more complete package on Saturn than Arcade but it also has port inaccuracies that make people stick with Arcade for competition.
So if you’re playing for fun pick Saturn if you’re running a tournament pick Arcade.
I think most people would prefer Saturn version because if they play for tourneys they already know.
i have it on the saturn list, but ill also add it to arcade and write a note
I probably should just use notes and put everything on all lists that the game exists for
lol @ Bugs Too! BHX intro logo
I need to calibrate this CRT it seems a little dark and a little too much red color
the metal slugs have additional modes on saturn/psx too
These saturn game lists are pretty good

"It's how you play the game."
The Saturn was a mixed bag for Sega. It was actually their most successful console in Japan; not a monster hit like the PlayStation, but it beat the Nintendo 64 by a hair there. Consequently, it amassed a very respectable game library, full of unique, high-quality titles. On the other hand, it was a total commercial...
Is the Nintendo 64 better than the Sega Saturn?
YES
yes
But can't play Shining of holy ark on core and I'm heartbroken 😛

Cheeky
lolol
ban for Robby ....
It’s ok, I’ve already accepted my death to be at the hands of a Sega fan
and the Nintendo 64 will never be better than the Saturn
NEVER
I'll be honest, on N64 there are max 10 games I'll play....
I feel no love for this console
Dang, playing Batman Forever Arcade with a friend…got to level…4 maybe? (had a few pops) It crashed

That game is the bees knees.
it’s pretty fun! we’re playing with arcade sticks 🕹️
play the psx version 😛
oh... im missing that game on the list, which is better
you would think so but its really more like 60+
I appreciate N64 more now since Robert made that core, than I have the past 20+ years
I'm not too interested in games from this console 🤷🏻♂️
anyone know how to take .bup saves from my saturn and use them with this core?
I think one of these formats works. Mednafen maybe? https://segaxtreme.net/resources/saturn-save-converter.74/
Simply drop your save file on top of the converter to allow it to convert the save to known popular emulator types.
Supports:
SSF
Yabause and derivatives
Mednafen
Nova
Giri giri and derivatives
BUP
Renamed appropriately, of course.
But that's a good way to get a bunch to throw at trying it.
i can try renaming the mednafen file it dumps out, asked here after finding that and not seeing anything come out as .sav
You have to manually rename, yeah.
*if any of them work. I haven't looked into it a ton.
i mean even the extension though, medna's is .bkr. That works for gba games though so maybe, finding out now
Yeah, find the one that's the same size as a saturn save in the core and try it. But yes, full rename. Extension and all.
actually the original .bup file is the same size, sec
oh no it's a converted bup from that program, thought I could skate around converting at all for a minute
yeah that works
brought my SOTN save over
The Saturn core saves each byte as a 16 bit word with the actual data in the second byte, for some reason that probably makes sense
Where dat?
Saturn has a lot of experiences you can't get on other planets
every platform offers something unique
or every planet
Saturn isn't just about arcade ports and fighting games
Taco, you only care about fighting games right?
you need to play the greatest experience of all time... The Crow. I condemn you to play it for 8 hours straight
also on PSX
lol
the n64 has 3 good games
@sharp mauve if you like the Saturn reply yes to my comment
Yes, this is a trap
3 good games. The rest are great!
XD
When I own the Clockwork Knight trademark we’ll see who be laughing last!
Homies crib
I also care about your mom
But nahh seriously I care about a lot of shit
uh huh, sure ya do
like... video games
Tacos
and thats it
oh and everyone's mothers
Specially your mothers
But nah im a man of many interest ..
Most of em involve video and or games
But I also love extreme sports
Like banging your mom
And volleyball
So volleyball, my mother, and video games
Speaking of extreme sports, that Steep Slope Sliders sure is something…
yea you are a man of many many interests
Is it me? Do I need to spend more time with the game?
I don’t know bros .. but when it comes to snowboarding games they ain’t feel right until the ps2 era with SSX and SSX tricky
there is no ps2 core
And now I’m sad
just cause SSX is better doesnt mean everything before it is not good
Personally i was playing and still play the tony hawks series
During that era and beyond
But I digress ..
skateboarding is different... nothing came close to tony hawk
Exactly
1080 as mentioned before would be my pick of the litter
yea probably
Any other extreme sports games on the Saturn?
cool boarders is good
Yah I like it
not that I can think of
Saturn wasn’t exactly known for sports games , conventional or of the extreme variety ..
Unfortunately
Big misstep for sega
But that’s a whole other can of worms
it has some good sports but I dont think any extreme sports
Even conventional sports tittles worth mentioning are far and few in between on the Saturn ..
And I love me some classic sports ..
there is at least 10
You taking to a dude that plays nhl 94 on the regular
Please enlighten us with your list
NHL All Star Hockey was the good one on Saturn
Do you do the updated roster hacks? AMAZING!
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sK0nsXIKW3Rb-xkHZRXXqOb9yIdfoNAhF_BKSDt2Hn4/edit?usp=sharing
Si, and tecmo bowl
And nba jam although those aren’t realistic **
arcade style is more fun
Playing as Mahomes on tecmo is hilarious
Tecmo Super Bowl is where its at
as a kid I played Joe Montana sports talk football
NFL 2K games were great on Dreamcast
for Saturn you should be playing Quarterback Attack for 24 hours straight
Madden was the best on Saturn but its also on PSX
Put down the bong bro
EA was like fuck that DC shit
You think sega would have been better off going the developer route after Saturn ?
Never released the DC ?
True ..
I wish they still made consoles
I want to buy one of those cabs
Do it ! I’ll come and wreck you on it and give you buyers remorse fr rl
Ask him how much for an Astro
For real (it’s fine if he says not for sale)
Yeah not for sale
Matrimelee at dawn!
That’s what I figured
Those are staying down there , I believe it took him years to acquired all of that ..
Well if he ever wants trade bait I’ve got a couple two tree boards stashed here somewhere
but does he have a mister
Im just glad I can play the game good enough to get invited to dope ass setups like that
the ultimate in retro gaming hardware
It can get a little out of hand though when you are the dude to beat at the game .. but it’s fun
Not yet but I’m pretty sure after hearing me yap about it for about an hour he will
Saturn isn't just fighting games and schmups, it's also 800 untranslated visual novels
lol
and RPGs
im down for a sci-fi visual novel
or horror
I wonder if there are any
Also strip mahjong
They call it the Nintendo 64 because when you see it you turn around 64 degrees and walk away
the best visual novels are law based
Hell, strip jankenpon...
anyon e know the best mahjong games?
Are there any anime games on saturn?
Space Jam </s>
That's my favourite anime
games based on anime? quite a few I imagine. Also manga
Yea i was just joking :p
nah this is serious
anime based games!? On a console that was popular in Japan? Unheard of
I took a look at the the saturn library a few times and its all oops how can i hold all this anime
Probably better off asking which games don't have anime on saturn
everyone shitting on saturn today
yeah, it does
can the playstation give you 10 player basketball games? I don’t think so
How about Magic Knight Rayearth?
Magic Knight Rayearth is the anime game on Saturn.
It's also a fat baby game according to someone who shall remain obvious.|| @burnt matrix ||
That's actually the first game I tested the saving function on the core was
Got stuck there for an hour with skippable dialogue just to get to the first save point
Maybe it wasn't an hour. But it was an excessively long time, I'd rather spend a minute mashing the a button with the owl in ocarina of time over that
Thought of Slayers Royal 1 + 2, though both are JPN-only so far
Slam Dunk would like a word
Also one cult classic mecha anime has a Saturn VN-game which is supposed to bridge the gap between the show and the movie (also JPN-only...)
Speaking of Mecha anime, I'm hunching Super Robot Wars-game or two on this
Shots fired

Sakura Wars is right there
Unless we talking only licensed anime games
Yeah, Sakura Wars is a game that had an anime! Not an anime that had a game!
Ohh yeah, I need to experience that Revolutionary Girl Utena-VN game with it at least having a translation
(Don't look at the opening, you will be left very freaked out)
There were a lot of those chinese cartoon games on Saturn wasn't there?
FYI, I'm testing Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru today on the current core.
Previous versions crashed the core on a specific point, after the boss on the boat and our disembarking.
Now the game is at least more playable (no more cutting sounds and music + no more crash at that point) and I tested up to the giant frog boss so far.
So at least 1/3 of the total game right now, without any major issue.
lol
I just don’t get it. The Saturn is this 2D powerhouse and they chose to make their sprites look like that…
Don't be throwing fat baby stones when you live in the Vaseline smeared baby game world of N64, @burnt matrix
Saturn is all about that 'tude
If this were a fantasy land:
- N64 would be the Vaseline swamps
- Saturn would be the munchkin village
- PlayStation would be wobbling jagged cliffs
Pc is the Elysian Fields where we can look down on the console peasants
Safely ensconced in our ivory Voodoo-powered towers.
the Elysian Fields are filled with soft squishy dumb dumbs.
us Orcs from vaseline swamps strong due to inverted sticks.
3DO would be the crystal palace on the hill.
or the Elysian Fields Septic Tank
Atari Jaguar the sewers?
Atari Jaguar is the undiscovered Country
So I guess the NES land would be some backward luddite kingdom with people emptying chamber pots of waste out their window at this point in the fantasy timeline
Wait how is Bug 2 (Bug Too)? I didn't know this existed
It’s Bug! but better!
Turbografx-16 is a tower at the highest top of the hills and mountains almost reaching to space
With a giant PCFX slug parasite attached to it
What are the best Mahjong games on Saturn?
also chess if there are any
It's Bug! but more. Take that as you will.
I found myself revisiting both games yesterday with all the Bug! talk lately. They... are as bleh as ever. 😆
Original Air Date: September 09th, 2009
Aside from what appears to be Major Minor acting as your boss, a new land struck with a mesmerizing spell, and Katy and Tempo down in their luck after the first and second game until they agree to help save the new land, I haven't really translated much of anything because I'm kinda in the middle of somet...
Bug game on Saturn?
Yo homie
Peep this
Bug Legend?
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Im terribly sorry, I just wanted to talk about a good bug related game on Saturn this morning.
Does that offend you people?
Bug! is a neat footnote because the devs were trying to figure out how a 3D platformer could work. And that was their take on it.
Tempo is a perfectly good 2D platformer.
imagines what a modern Astal could be 🥺
I doubt the nadesico game will ever get translated.
DON'T REMIND ME

(This series is so dang obscure these days, does it need a meme to rejuvenate interest on it)
That Gundam Saturn game just got translated didnt it?
Yep
SHIRO! shows off the first beta release of the Mobile Suit Gundam Fan Translation by Shadowmask and team.
So far, only the FMV videos have been translated, but In game dialogue has been started. Currently Shadowmask is looking for people with tiling, translating or assembly experience who would like to help.
Download the patch here:
https://s...
But everyone knows gundam.
Pretty much
Nadesico was actually about 10 years too early. It did a lot of the genre subversion 4th wall stuff pretty early.
Now see here you casuals
Broadcasted live on Twitch -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/katkilad
Time Bokan is available
So I dont want to hear about your newfangled "Goondumbs"
Yeah - too bad the momentum for the series got dashed post-TV series
Funny still to watch folks to know Akito Tenkawa more as his Prince of Darkness-self than the original TV series thanks to latest English entries of Super Robot Wars...
Looks wild
Good, one more lost soul informed of Time Bokan. My work is done.
I know a bit about it, if only due the villain trio influencing some beloved chars today
Is Team Rocket inspired by the incompetent villains from Nadia?
DON'T YOU DARE CALL GRANDIS GANG INCOMPETENT

The weebs are gathering in #1046941029296779344, it'll smell like a brewery in here before long..
Saturn just happens to have good bit of neat anime tie-ins
Oh the Doronbo Gang are famous for kickstarting an anime/manga cliche of having a trio of comic relief villains, typically consisting of two boys and a girl.
Also this post I remember circulating around Tumblr
we found chess boys
alright there is no saturn chess but there is a dreamcast one
Woah, this scene's more spicy than I thought
lol
(Anyway must stop here before @polar geode actually ends up right about this place smelling like brewery)
Sega fans be like:
- ”woah this obscure cartoon game for children is so cool”
- “woah I hope they translate this other obscure game based on a children’s cartoon”
Translate.. snrkt
Skill issue..
I don't usually care much about anime tie-in games but it's kinda crazy when once in a very rare blue moon some of these cartoons happen to force canon events to another medium entirely
It didn't work too well with .Hack either
(And I'm a fan...)
No Rurouni Kenshin on Saturn?
magumi!!!!!
Rurouni Kenshin hardly has games from my memory
Roo-rowdy Ken’s Shin? Is that a wrestler?
lol
🤠
I like the CARTOON for it
Cartoon? phlegmy snort
I also like the Berserk CARTOON

yeah, even sega abandoned the idea.
"Yeah"
Weren’t the genesis games in that Saturn Sega Ages collection based on anime? Quack shot and Castle of Illusion?
I think Ill go running back to @naive whale's channel screaming now
Lol what did I do?
Be a good youtube channel
Unlike this shit
Im sorry I was mean before, this is horrible and I wont complain about anything you make anymore
Lol I’m not following but I’ll take the compliment 🤣
ESP because my stalker / death threat dude reappeared this morning!
Mo cat tail!
Lol it happens 🤷🏻♂️
I have 33 subscribers, nobody cares enough to stalk me
I’d post the photos for the laughs but it’s some real not PC stuff
Dang , whats their issue?
I DMd you the photos for the laughs
So you get the flavor without me putting that in public. Bad language
Death threats... over old video games...
The internet was a mistake.
I dont even understand the hate. Doesnt make any sense
At least nobody has started talking about IPAs yet...
must just be a lunatic that gets triggered by your voice for no reason or something
or maybe a psychopath that hates 3do
people get triggered with 3do
Hot garbage in a bottle
I think it is the anti-bacon agenda. Who looks at bacon and says , “aww, I wish it were something else”
"Hey! Have you tried [IPA with a pun name] yet? It is LITERALLY undrinkable. Amazing. I gagged immediately. Like drinking broken glass with rotten mouse flesh. 5 stars on Untapped."
XD
When anyone asks what living in Portland in the 2000s was like, I should just paste that text.
The hipster vibe continued on until about.. 2016-2017 I want to say
Robby dropping the truth bombs.
That shit is crazy bro ..: sorry you have to deal with lame ass shit like that simply for doing your thing
You put yourself out there and enough people know, the creeps come out from under their rocks I guess
What are the odds. Saw an hour ago
An unholy matrimony
no such thing as accidents or coincidences... its a sign from Creation
what you focus on is what you see

yeah it's fun how that happens
its known as synchronicity
many times I was thinking about money and within minutes found money on the ground
synchronise deez
One cannot synchronize a sack of deez, when one of them hangs lower my son
these are the way of the ancient monks
Be glad it wasn't the original GIF ....it's been a hard recovery for me. @burnt matrix has been a good sponsor.
Hahaha Segata would destroy Mario
Found the seaman thing at the local game shop
where is the mic
in case no one knows, you can actually plug in any 3.5mm TRS mic to the adapter, so you can just grab a new flexible lav of that type on amazon or ebay and it'll work just fine
baroque is beautiful
got your fishing rod yet?
can't play Soul Calibur without a fishing rod
Working on it
I look forward to you gettin gud in Sega Marine Fishing, which is one of many reasons to own a DC.
Top is more eye catching, especially on mobile or 4k, when it'll be the size of a postage stamp.
That’s what I figured as well
top, but in 3D
Yoshi Vu style or red/blue?
whats the yoshi vu
red/blue would be cool but nobody would see the effect. I would probably just make it look more 3D with layering and shadows in photoshop
and enhancing the different parts of the dragon to simulate greater distances
Separated layers/simulated 3D planar stuff.
Basically this
yea i guess thats what I am talking about
I would make the head closer
and the player character
Or... hold up... he could use a shot of a good game.
Oh I get it, simulate 3D much like Sega simulated 3D on the Saturn.
ZING!

Like criticom
my real goal is uniting all the SEGA fans against a common enemy (me)
I am that misunderstood but empathetic comic book villain
Has anyone tried that Asura the Striker demo on Steam? It feel like a Naomi era Space Harrier. Might be good if everything comes together.
The best Sega console ever
Shenmue had the best Space Harrier port.
The Switch version is pretty darn good.
Your mom has the best Space Harrier port.
🤯
60 fps.
Yeah, she has the Shenmue one.
The switch version is a port of the 3DS port isnt it? Outrun is too
Enjoy docking into that 73 year old port.
The arcade had an analogue flight stick, most ports just do digital or have a weird dead zone that feels off.
"My mother is dead, you monster."
Geeez.

"ROARING START!!"
Sure Nintendo has had massive financial success and PlayStation effectively ended Sega, but it doesn’t matter because neither of them had ROLLLLLLINGGG STAAAAAAAHT
It’s …. “Rolling start”
Track 3. That is is definitely a "roaring"
One of the most iconic and beloved arcade racers ever created. Superb soundtrack too!

LYRICS ADDED based on information from Jun Senoue's website (and a couple of liberties by me). Add "&fmt=18" to the end of the URL for higher quality audio. Make sure there's nothing like "&feature" or any of that stuff in there.

The SS version was re sampled.
Ima be playing Daytona 2001 on my Dreamcast
I like both versions of Rolling/Roaring start and the whole soundtrack for it in general, it's iconic. Slight edge to the arcade version because I find the Engrish endearing.
Yeah this era of game music belongs to sega ..
as much as I love the original this song kicks ass too
I was listening to it on loop on mister the other day
in the background
is the other songs in the game like that?
i only watched the opening
for the CCE Net Link Edition I mean
Listening to it while driving doesn't sound like a terribly great idea. 🤣
Too tempting to let muscle memory take over.
"Gotta make it to the checkpoint before time runs out!"
I'm typically always listening to high(ish)-energy electronic music while driving (trance, progressive house, etc.), so I get it. Great background music that doesn't require any attention to enjoy. Just let it bump at a steady BPM.

SEGA should have got this song for that Daytona version too
it was in the FreeJack movie about the racer crashing and time travelling
what you think @sudden tusk
would have been perfect for a track
I guess you can just replace songs an repackage the iso
Not my favorite scorpions track but I wouldn’t skip it if it came on
what is your favorite
El mejor Heavy Metal Japonés. Anthem - Domestic Booty con Naoto Shibata en bajo, Yukio Morikawa en voz, Akio Shimizu guitarra y Takamasa Ouchi en bateria.
the zoo is too slow for daytona though
No, I dont know if King's special move is named after the track
Big City Nights would work
i still think Hit Between the Eyes works best
purely speaking for while racing in Daytona
Van Halen - Panama
im gonna check the days of thunder soundtrack
or Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. 😉
nothing in days of thunder

"Kickstart My Heart" is always a classic.
