Thanks Zet

ancient surge
#

Sakura Wars Columns no longer has those obnoxious "explosions", but the audio volume is low.

old pasture
#

I'm also gonna add a few more games that were requested during the stream. Yesterday

#

I remember Gex and elevator action was in them

mortal mist
#

we lost @sudden tusk ....

damn gifs

old pasture
#

Damn, it was self inflicted lol

ancient surge
#

Thunder Force V still doesn't work lol

old pasture
#

No Taco for an hour. Life is boring already lol

ripe valley
#

We need to test Elevator Action Returns too, the sounds of enemies in fire was hilarious before (maybe a problem with sample rate, chipmunk style).

sudden tusk

They took much JIF!!

mortal mist

haha

ripe valley

I'm home for the rest of the week, so I have time for tests within the next minutes.

sudden tusk

DEY TOOK MY JIF!

naive whale
#

Looks like I gotta make a vid today

sudden tusk
#

Can you make it and publish it today please

naive whale
#

Bios rename still the same? On the new core

#

And what is it again? 🤣 gonna use my new build today (I’m sick and my brain doesn’t work)

sudden tusk
#

Audio is fixed in DF 2

#

No more snaps crackles and pops

Sega Rally ?

sudden tusk
#

Im loading sega rally rn

digital basalt
#

Lol it says CD bios not found

#

Sounds like bug

mortal mist
#

yes indeed

ancient surge
#

Madou Monogatari now has music, but the audio breaks after a while and it still runs at half speed.

sudden tusk
#

And sega rally is a no go ,

mortal mist

no way

How are you able to run @sudden tusk

How's Die Hard arcade now?

Let me try SEGA Rally real quick.

sudden tusk
mortal mist

wtf?!

#

thanks!

ancient surge
#

SEGA Rally Championship has the music keep popping in and out.

undone oyster
#

The real question is, did this build fix the games that were not booting for some people??

mortal mist
#

we will see

digital basalt

Trash Derpy is working

With music n sound

Both

ancient surge
#

I'm trying Shinobi Legions again. Not expecting anything.

sudden tusk

Sega rally still a white screen for me, same as the last few builds…

ancient surge

Nope, still stuck on a black screen.

sudden tusk

This movie needs to CowaENDA!

tiny flare
digital basalt
#

Sprites are missing in Thunder Force V and music comes n goes. Just like my crush

sudden tusk
#

Well sega rally music does cut off randomly

#

At least sfx are consistent and it seems to be playing at the proper speed

ancient surge
#

Okay so I'm noticing differences between the single and dual RAM builds of SEGA Rally Championship.

The single RAM build seems to be more stable? Maybe a fluke?

undone oyster
#

😮

mortal mist
#

for me is the same ( based on previous versions of core )

undone oyster
#

I thought Dual was supposed to be more stable

mortal mist
#

in theory yes

digital basalt
#

Sega Rally worked for me but music comes n goes

sudden tusk
#

But it’s a real toss up with this core

sudden tusk
#

Dang it! Guardian heroes still goes black screen after pressing start

tiny flare
#

I wouldn’t read much into it yet given the difference in results people are seeing

mortal mist
#

ehhhh

#

A few cores ago I completed Guardian Heroes

sudden tusk
#

Yeah it broke like 2 cores ago

tiny flare
#

It seems like things are working or not working by accident still at this point

undone oyster
#

Because you are lucky Kuba

digital basalt
#

Galactic Attack works but music is messed up

mortal mist
#

i was lucky 🙂

sudden tusk
#

Don’t care , all I wanna play is DF 1 and 2 and those are super solid now specially now that we can save

mortal mist
#

not now anymore

#

heheheh

undone oyster
#

I haven't been able to run Guardian Heroes for like 3 builds now (not including this one)

ripe valley
#

Same.

sudden tusk
#

Still not working fuzz

digital basalt
#

Guardian Heros stuck on black screen

#

But music works

undone oyster

I am at work, I haven't been able to test yet

mortal mist

i don't remember when it stop working

ancient surge

Guardian Heroes doesn't boot on the single RAM build, but it does on the dual RAM build.

mortal mist

for me it hangs on dual

#

black screen

undone oyster
#

I wonder when we should start letting SRG320 know about the games running on a per person basis

digital basalt
#

Darius Gaiden, Music missing

#

😦

ancient surge
#

Okay, it then softlocks on a black screen after the intro FMV

undone oyster
#

I mean I still can't run Shining the holy ark

digital basalt
#

God bless this Saturn core

#

XD

undone oyster
#

Can anyone run Shining the holy ark on single ram?

ancient surge
#

I'm booting up the games people are saying don't work to see if I get any better results.

My MiSTer has been pretty consistent with getting games to work, which is why I always double check.

sudden tusk
#

Legend of oasis sound is …. Fixed!

#

With saving legend of oasis is super playable now

tiny flare
#

Soukuugurentai gets in game for me now, which is new, crash after the first stage though, also some kind of polygon ordering issue

sudden tusk
#

Now that saves are implemented in assuming SRG can start debugging !

tiny flare
#

(Was going to say Z buffer issue but afaik the Saturn didn’t have one, haha)

undone oyster
#

Last build (not todays) fixed the exploding polygons in Die Hard Arcade so if today's fixed the audio then it should be very playable until it randomly crashes or takes control away

ancient surge
#

Shining The Holy Ark is very unstable. Prone to crashing on both builds.

undone oyster

I need to do some testing when I get home from work

sudden tusk

sudden tusk

At least the music works great and that’s hardcore enough for me

wanton elk
#

Radiant Silvergun black screen

sudden tusk

I don’t even care what else works , as long as I can now save a game of Dragon Force 1 and 2!

ancient surge
#

Grandia still a broken mess. At least the audio is more stable.

sudden tusk
#

Fighting vipers and fighters mega mix working almost perfect but low sound

mortal mist
#

I know that the Saturn version of Thunderforce V is a little better , but I spent many hours playing on the PSX

#

I don't miss it now 😛

#

i love Sega Rally and Guardian Heroes

sudden tusk
#

The psx core truly is a blessing

#

But this Saturn core is gonna be right up there with it

sudden tusk
mortal mist

i like it 😛

mortal mist

thorn pagoda

it'll probably be the last game to work properly when all timings everywhere are nailed down, you remember how sensitive it was on psx 😄

Some missing sounds on Rayman now when multiple SFX should be read.
Regression on Gokujō Parodius Da! Deluxe Pack (sound effects are read 3 times when choosing an option in-game).

We have sound and music now on Grandia FMVs.

#

Bug! doesn't want to boot anymore on my system now.

#

Saving seems to work now as intended, even after a power cycle.

#

SEGA Rally boots (depends on systems), sound effects doesn't cut but music will (as others said earlier).

mortal mist

I finish work soon , but there is nothing left for me to test !

ripe valley
#

Some regressions on the Cotton games, the two games freeze for a second and some sound effects are getting stucked after that.
And Grandia can't go in-game anymore, it freeezes in an infinite loop around the end of the intro.
Legend of the Oasis is much better now, as the others said.

balmy kelp
mortal mist
#

nothing can be done about it at the moment (it's core thing )

#

unless you have the ability to change it on TV

#

some games are centered

#

Sega Rally for example

naive whale
#

but thats some high test / high touch stuff that maybe I wouldn't recommend

balmy kelp
#

Thanks @naive whale. I'm familiar with the service menu, but was hoping for a software solution since I'd have to have undo the horizontal adjustment any time I'm not using the Saturn core.

wise brook
#

if you wanna spend money to remedy a temporary quirk of an alpha state core.

#

h & v rgb scart adjuster

mortal mist
#

Yeah , i use this one

#

Works fine

balmy kelp
#

@wise brook @mortal mist Is this effectively a passthrough with no added lag? I've actually been considering this, since I run quite a few different consoles/crt emudriver, and most of them could use micro-adjustments

wanton elk

My 15khz monitors have H-Shift dial on the front panel. Really handy when playing on the saturn core.

naive whale
wanton elk
#

Crowbar or hammer and break off the left part of the bezel. Bet there's at least half an inch hiding under there. 😙

balmy kelp
#

Yeah, I've got vga monitors with somewhat convenient osd position options, but I primarily use my mister on a consumer tv, and playing around with the service menu for specific cores destroys that pick up and play factor

ancient surge
#

Asuka 120% Limited Burning Fest still has the same audio and graphical problems.

Virtual On Cyber Troopers boots and runs, but the broken graphics make it unplayable.

Major sound improvements on SEGA Ages - Outrun.

every feature of the original hardware

undone oyster
#

Yeah even if it is in its absolute basic form I think it is all there now

warped cliff
#

Nice! Yeah then I think it's totally fair to call it in alpha state

undone oyster
#

Yeah Alpha sounds about right for now, Beta will be when every feature of every subsection is fully implemented

polar geode
#

Glad to know srg is doing well. Surprised saving is being added to such an early form of the core.

naive whale
polar geode
#

One would think save states would be more helpful for that, but I dont know the complexity of implementing that by comparison

warped cliff
#

basically minimal crashes, or hangs. there may be sub features of the CPU that are literally not used by any game, and he could put it off indefinitely

undone oyster
#

Yeah I agree with that 🙂

ripe valley
#

Major sound improvements on Herc's Adventures. Characters during FMVs and music during the game haven't cut at all during a 30mins playthrough.

ripe valley
polar geode
#

Makes sense.

ripe valley
#

When I try to read the source code of the core and understand some choices done there.

warped cliff
#

Maybe he can reduce ALM usage by having PAL and NTSC as separate cores

undone oyster
#

It is probably just not optimised yet, from what I heard SRG320 doesn't normally work this way, he makes the core completely and then uploads it, but due to what is currently happening in his country and having to occasionally go days without Internet he is uploading any changes as he can

warped cliff
#

It wouldn't surprise me if the core ends up bigger than the N64 core. they really overloaded that system with hardware

ancient surge
warped cliff
#

Wouldn't the decoder be a bit bulky?

#

I think there was such an adapter for PSX as well, but I don't remember if any games used it.

ancient surge
#

Maybe. I doubt the core will include it since it's already pushing limits as is, but it's technically a "key feature" since otherwise a game straight up won't work.

warped cliff
#

Really? I thought they would typically fall back to a lower quality video

ancient surge
#

Though keep in mind there is a normal version of Lunar Silver Star Story that plays on stock hardware, so even if the core doesn't support the MPEG version at least it won't be a big loss.

undone oyster
pearl harbor
#

Oh muh goodness! My prediction was wrong! And I'm happy about it!

#

Time to start testing!

ancient surge
undone oyster
#

Did it only work for Lunar or did it actually allow for video CDs to be played in the Saturn?

undone oyster
#

Ohhh cool

pearl harbor
#

Also, congrats to @sudden tusk for having the closer prediction on the core update!....is what I would say, but we're going by Price is Right rules, so I actually win! smugnep

ancient surge
#

If the core itself can't support it, I could see a SNAC adapter being made. But that runs into the issue of the Video CD Card being so niche that making an entire SNAC adapter for it feels pointless.

leaden dagger

I think theres already a beta snac made by misteraddons

ripe valley

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo seems to work completely now, no more SFX or music cut during matches and the intro plays completely without issues (tested with 5 matches in a row).
Waku Waku 7, the sound seems more correct now and SFX aren't shouty anymore.

Good news everyone.

saturn ** 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨 **

The MiSTer core is the most accurate Saturn emulator in existence as it passes all currently known tests (DCC, SCU, SCSP, SMPC, VDP2 & SH2)!

The recommended bios is the region-free Hi-Saturn. DO NOT ask about it, DO NOT ask for it, and DO NOT ask where to get.

Redump is the only verified disc image set that works; DO NOT ask about it, DO NOT ask for it, and DO NOT ask where to get it.

List of games with visual bugs that occur on real hardware - [LINK]

List of games that need the correct ram cart size set in the core settings - [LINK]

List of games that may have potential issues with CHD compression - [LINK]

If a 3D fighting game runs slow for you on single sdram, then toggle the Timing: Fast option, under Hardware, in the core’s menu. Dual sdram builds do not have or need this option.

Multi-disc games must specifically include “(Disc 1)” or “(Disc 2)” as part of their file and be placed in the same folder to work; i.e. Game (Disc 1).chd.

You’ll need to disable the second controller port for some games, like “In the Hunt”, “Shinobi Legends/X” and “Night Striker S”; this is an issue with real hardware and not a bug with the core!

tough star
#

I had to use google translate to figure out what to do lol

wooden dew
#

Is it a per game save. Or a system wide save?

tough star
#

I don't know really - for the PSX it's per game

#

I didn't play around with it a lot yet

wooden dew
#

Kk, no prob

pearl harbor
#

Pretty sure it's a per game thing. I checked the save for one of the games I saved in the bios, and it was there, but none of the other games I saved had their save files in there. Then I switched games and the one that was there was gone in the bios, even though the save still worked when reloading that game.

wooden dew
#

Looks like a separate save for each game

tough star
#

oh per disc then

#

I will assume that the mem cards will be auto created soon

#

if games are picky about finding them (formatted)

“gracefully”, you already forgot about poor Dave? The guy we had to sacrifice to the MiSTer gods so we could get saves working on the PSX core?

tiny flare
#

it's not really mem cards, saturn didn't really have them, just battery backed save ram in the console itself - some games could use a save back up device in the cartridge slot directly, but that was really just for backing up and restoring your saves to and from the system save ram

most games couldn't directly use the save carts

I’ve got so many other MiSTer vids I keep pushing; “what is an FPGA and what does it matter”, “2023 analog video guide”, “why you need to buy a MiSTer in 2023”, etc etc

The NUMBER ONE video everyone kept asking me about in regards to MiSTer FPGA was an S-Video and Composite video tutorial...and since all the cores have basically been folded in to MiSTer Main and active Y/C adapters for MiSTer FPGA are all over the place...it's time to talk about a...

When I was playing through Popful Mail earlier this year, there were a ton of Working Designs moments. 😬

ripe valley

Some regressions found yesterday : some missing SFX on games like Rayman on my side, during gameplay where multiple SFX must be played at the same moment.
Or games like the Wipeout series and we have multiple times the same SFX read instead of only one instance needed.
Must be a specific missing value or a missing filter be added on the SCSP code.

Yeah that’s definitely another WD classic

The original cringe artist

Anyways .. everyone should play some gratin force!! And also dragon force

Dragon Force is legit my favorite Saturn game. Absolutely love that game. Still have my original copy, but haven't played through the game in nearly 10 years!

#

Hmm...I said "game" three times in that post. Doesn't read well. Not cool me. Not cool.

Is there an updated Masterlist of working Saturn games with the latest build?

mortal mist
#

Nope

#

People have different results when testing, it's hard to know what works and what doesn't

#

until the core is more mature it makes no sense

drifting frigate
#

There are a few that are 'frequently NOT working' that are pretty solid. But even those have some successes out there. Thuderforce V, Virtual On, Shinobi X/Legions/Den, Guardian Heroes (that's one some people are able to play, I think). Those are generally not playing for anyone though.

Starting to feel small in here

drifting frigate
#

We moved from 620sq ft to 1900 sq ft plus a 700 sq ft loft studio space and it was life changing.

naive whale
#

We’ve got about 1000 sq ft and it’s getting a bit small for sure.

drifting frigate
#

We also put in a ~200 sq ft office shed (fully finished, so it's just an accessory building) clearing up more room. It's so amazing coming from such a cramped space.

1000sqft in Canada is probably about 500k right now

# old pasture London is crazy expensive 🫰 in the housing department too

I can't even imagine. America doesn't understand 'old' cities. We don't have any clue about how tightly packed things are and most of us don't even really understand how big BIG cities are when they don't get to sprawl out. NYC is jawdropping if you've only ever seen LA. And in those winding old bones, space is rare and expensive.

fair enough

I guess I'll try and find the old list of the 'problem' titles and test those on the side when the next build drops. Was mostly just curious about how far along things are but it seems like stuff is still in dev

NP. Also it looks like some of the background layers aren't animated and just hard stop as layer elements at the beginning and the ending of the stage.
