Played Sega CD Snatcher recently. Absolutely needed a walkthrough. My first Policenauts playthrough will be this version. Apparently the PC98 version is superior, but it's not translated.

You can leave at none when playing games that don't need it, but leaving at 4MB won't hurt either. Some games that uses 1MB have issues when 4MB is used though.

Rule of thumb is that the SNK fighting games use the 1MB, while the Capcom fighting games use the 4MB.

Like I mentioned a while back, a lot of the SEGA Saturn games mainly suffer from glitched audio (no music, static, sound effects missing, etc.)

My guess is that he plans on fixing that with a new MiSTer build and a new SEGA Saturn core build so it's a lot more stable.

I never touched Saturn until srg320's progress core. Am I going to be able to play, say, Burning Rangers alright with an Xbox controller?

For SEGA Saturn I would recommend getting a SEGA Saturn controller for the most seamless results, but you can technically use any controller you want and remap the button layout to whatever you need.

Basically anything that accepts Bluetooth (will need an adapter though) or a USB wired connection will work, and you can even use a SNAC adapter if you want to use the original controller.

If you can, I'd go for an 8Bitdo M30 for the Saturn core. Also excellent for the Genesis/CD/32x.

That will work 1:1 control wise.

It is expected that the latest unstables may not be working at all. This is still in heavy development and things can break.

However you now need to manually load the bios every time you launch the core. Maybe that’s your issue?

Make sure to rename boot.rom to boot.bin. Then manually load it from the core. If boot.rom is still in the folder, the core won't load, forcing a reboot of the MiSTer.

put the membranes in a pan of boiling water for 1 minute. tap dry with clean kitchen roll and run the black carbon gently with a q-tip to remove any grease that may have built up

Some games are unstable (like Akumajou Dracula X, SEGA Rally, Super Tempo...) between MiSTer builds (v2.5/v2.9 RAM, single vs dual RAM).
Other games are crashing on later gameplay like Burning Rangers, Nights and Taromaru.
Games like Grandia need a complete research on FMVs, exploded 3D, speed...
Sound needs an overhaul, saves are not completely working as of now.

The core comes from a long way, but will need polish on every part of the system.

We are talking about a complex system, not a Neo Geo Pocket here. 😏

SEGA Rally works on my main system (dual RAM v2.9), just a white screen for a second before booting completely.
Maybe a problem with bandwith and/or RAM timings.

But games like Guardian Heroes and Super Tempo don't work on my side, but I've seen others here with a 'working state' on these more or less recently.

You can just add the database details to the bottom of your downloader.ini (2 lines worth) and every time you run updater or update all it will remove the old unstable nightlies and download the new ones to an Unstable folder, is super easy and useful 🙂

If Sorg rewrites the Genesis core it’s possibly he can also port those changes to the 32X core too.

Long story short nukeykt is making a verilog version of the cycle accurate MegaDrive emulator. In early tests it has surpassed accuracy of the current Genesis core. Sorg (the creator of MiSTer) recently posted on his Patreon that will be looking at bringing over nukeykt’s work onto the MiSTer and updating the current Genesis core.
