Hey folks! Here is just a little suggestions thread where you can leave feedback for the new Shinies feature! It'll keep things in once place and will make it easier for us to chip in with responces!

A couple of things:
🔸 Please try to leave your feedback with as much detail as possible and in a single message, just so we can easily reply to your thoughts (edit your message if you missed something out)
🔹 And please try your best to skim through the feedback already left so we don't double up on the same points too often!

We hope you enjoy the new feature and we're looking forward to hearing your feedback!

  • love the idea for Collection
  • Make a separate category for regular cards and shiny ( explained well in odiumed post)
  • add a wheel that can draw a shiny card
  • make shiny untradable for short time until the supply catches up the demand
  • And please make Fox and Crows Shiny in the next batch

more burned cards, less supply + hording so how free to play players and new players build thier deck if there is no one wants to trade anymore? Play with bots? Lol!

For collection purposes I think it would be better to not have shiny cards treated differently, so when you have the shiny version of a card it shouldn't show the normal version as missing unless you specifically filter for it.

granite dagger
#

In a more polite way than what pineapple is saying, although its been about an hour since shinies came out, people are already a lot more hesitant to trade because what if this card I trade away becomes shiny-able, shiny-able cards are rising in value since everyone needs dupes to make shinyes.
you guys mentioned you’d find a way to decrease the coming card scarcity and I hope its a great feature since new players now can’t make decks, casuals can’t trade, only people not really hurt by this are people with a ton of dupes, but you can’t exactly run a game with 1% of a 1% of your playerbase

I could whale 10 million gems to get shinies but that changes nothing if no one wants to trade with me

Now It's impossible to get these cards. I've been searching since yesterday. And I can't get it. 😑 Why you didn't do a survey first before implementing that shiny thing?

to be fair those cards are hard to get, they're core paleo cards

but i get the point that it will be even harder now

I feel as though costing 3 limited legendaries for a shiny may even be too much. Collectionists now need 4 copies of the card to have shiny version+normal. F2p player who are already struggling to get rare cards that whales have dupes of are going to suffer even more. At most it should imo be 2 legendaries, 3 epic, 4 rare, 5 common and it should replace the normal copy so you dont have to own the shiny+normal version

cursive fog
cursive fog

#

Alternatively, could consider if other cards from the same collection of lesser rarities contribute ti shinies, similar to fusions, would mean the mass dupes of rare/common limiteds would be burned instead of desired epics/legendaries

#

Overall as cool as shinies are, its going to make getting rare cards even more a pain in the arse for us f2p, bearing in mind whales already ask for overpay for everything

gentle cosmos

A shiny a nonshiny card in collection should count as one unless you specifically select a shiny filter. For example when crafting is good to quickly see if I have a complete collection to know if I can use those legs elsewhere but how it's gonna show incomplete even though it's not like I can craft a shiny

cursive fog
#

They need to CREATE a new CARDS for shiny fusions, Not the duplicate, because it affect the whole trading system.

slow sorrel
#

if i could give my own thoughts on this, that's aside from trading woes...

...the shinies is like this extra thing that adds further complications and extra goals to the game when there are enough already going around

goals:
competitive deck building (re-adjusting to meta changes)
fun deck building
card/collection completion
daily, weekly, season, long-term achievements
getting top in league
collecting themes and sleeves and avatar

there is also a one-card collector hobby (people who hoard dupes for the sake of dupes) that is like the shinies but at least there is no real official incentive there

in short there is a lot already to think about, the shinies don't add excitement tbh

but i get it, it's a business more than anything, you guys need to find ways to sustain it, and you can't keep churning out cards quicker than you already do even if technically this game is called Cards, Universe, and Everything, because it will make balancing difficult and will easily overwhelm players

to me the shiny should be something that's based on chance and not through fusing and trading and nothing more (like a real thing to brag about look at me i pulled a shiny)...

now whether there would be packs dedicated to have a very small chance of pulling a shiny that could be the alternative way to earn money i'd be fine with it

silk finch
#

I think shiny should be 3d or holographic or have animation imo

#

it's a little hard to tell the difference between them and it seems almost indistinguishable

gentle cosmos
#

I'm guessing the goal is to siphon away limiteds from the economy. Standard cards get destroyed by crafting and fusing but they need something to reduce the supply of limiteds as well.. I doubt changes that go against it will get implemented

granite dagger
#

Joe said they’d figure it out, but a bandaid solution won’t fix it, we need something and fast

dusky cove
#

There are already so few rare/meta limleg dupes in the hands of non-p2p players. Costing dupes of those cards only increases demand and lowers supply for them, at least using other rarities towards shinies from the same collection would give non whales a chance of obtaining them

cursive fog
#

shinies shouldn't be craftable. Period.

granite laurel
#

I'm so close to collection completion, and seeing the shinies appear in the standard cards collection feels like a huge setback in my collection. Please filter them out by default in this overview and keep them visible in the shinies tab, where they belong i.m.o.

The same goes for 'cards collected', shinies should have their seperate category 'shinies collected 'x/x'

Big fan of Shinies!!! I usually hate all changes, but this one is very good! Bravo Avid 👏 Please continue with all rarities (Mythic, Fusion, Level Ups) and card types (Standard, Fusion, Crafted). I have my pantheon of favorites that I collect in high quantity. My OCD is already vibrating because I only have 2 of the 42 in Shiny form.

Also, glitch: The three "Cards I Love" on the player's profile do not link over the Shinyfication. The card greys out. You have to go back in and re-link to the new Shiny. No big, just a small glitch.

The shinies don't even look that good. You should make it where you can move the card and the shiny effect reacts like in Pokemon TCG and other card games.

I also think you should not be able to pull or trade for shinies. I think they should purely be a reward for collecting a certain amount of cards.

Overall shinies are a good idea, just executed poorly imo.

trading for shinies is redundant when we can already look for the non-shiny cards. allowing shinies to be tradable just adds to the trading mess of inflation

Focus the effort on making oudated cards playable and bring back old mechanics to live, we know money is import to keep the game alive, but this is not the way. Why not make all cards shiny and than release the feature? Or why not start with the chepeast ones instead of limlegs? For me that only wants to face different decks every week, shiny doesn't matter. Now a card the earlier I would pay 1mm costs 3mm...I just want to play the game and have fun, and I've been spending money on this so just let me play the game!
Ps: If you guys just want shiny to make money, so why not sell packs with a % chance of getting one, and than with a shiny one in hand players could trade it for a high price? We buy gems to get new cards, of course some of us would buy packs just to get shiny ones.

I would have an Idea for the shiny Design. I know the shinys are fresh and New but what would u say if the Symbols of the shinys would be Matching the rarity like a holo Version of common, rare, epic, legendary and Mythic and for the not limited a Silver one for the limited a golden one and for the mythics a rainbow colored design

Proposed reasonable changes to shiny cards @avid
Make shinies for all cards (no mythic/level up/standard) 3 years or older ONLY
Add new shinies as they become 3 years or older (ie cards with lots of time to build stock). This normalizes a release schedule that the community can prepare for
Add a new little bar under the main collection bar for shiny completion. No one gets mad that their regular completion number isnt perfect anymore, and theres a new completion set to work towards.

Please react with thoughts 🙂

I don't hate the idea of shinies, but I do hate having them in the card collection count. It's especially hard to swallow them as a "new" card when it's such a bland shiny design.

I'm also wary of further attempts by Avid to make the trade market more difficult / less functional. The shenanigans with the trade bar this summer were ugly and made me take a long break from the game. This is less ham-fisted than those market controls were, but it feels like a second run at the same issue (veteran players having big stockpiles of older cards to drop in the market).

I'm willing to wait and see, but my first impression is that I don't really like it.

yeah sorry this is just downright terrible, possibly game-ruining and i honestly can't believe this wasn't thought out first, even if you all are planing something as you say, i'd get that ready before implementing the worst change ever made to the game

i'd revert this asap and compensate those who already did them

i think a lot of players want to collect everything and this just makes anyone want to NOT do it at all, aka not invest time in the game after the initial few days of playing

just have shinies replace non-shinies in the collection, no counters for them, it's cosmetics

Another good option is to rework the shiny system as random reroll/gacha. 3/5/7/10 random cards of limited rarity produce a random shiny card of that rarity. Allows for a good card sink for non-meta cards, a chance for new players to roll shiny meta cards that jumpstarts their economy, and for avid, encourages just more buying all around as people try and collect all the shinies. Sounds like a win win? Also people love any sort of reroll sytem in a game, especially if it has no effect on gameplay

Hey CUE DEVS! Wake up! There is a lot of complains about this shiny. This game is not just for collectors you know that. Some of us loves to play in league. Not all players can afford to spend. I don’t like shines in the slightest and how they’re increasing the threshold for new players to really get into the game.

I think the idea of them are cool and all, and I like how it gives collectors something else to work towards, but it just feels like a poor way of implementing another rarity above limiteds (and the effect is hardly that impressive or noticeable as well).

I don’t see the trading inflation situation of these cards getting any better until every card is implemented into the system, so I plead that you either reverse the changes and give it more time in the oven, or implement every card all at once. Please listen to your community on this one. Even the main demographic of collectors are opposed to Shinies, and I can see a lot of them walking out if changes aren’t made in the very near future.

I'm sorry Avid but this really feels like a massive misstep to me. The fact that already valuable and scarce cards are essentially 'deleted' from the game when they are merged into a shiny is just going to make those cards even more scarce and valued higher. So now players will have to spend more in order to obtain those cards - even for players that don't care about shiny cards, they will still have a harder time getting the normal versions of those cards cards now as players will be less willing to trade away duplicates. The cynic in me really feels like this is just a cash grab. I know Avid are a business and need to make money but there are ways to do that without having such a negative impact on the in-game economy

I'm aware Joe said they are working on a few ways to combat any card scarcity that shinies may create, but it seems so obvious that this is going to cause scarcity issues that I don't understand why they are waiting to implement these changes to head off the inevitable problems

I'm curious if there are any other games that have implemented shinies or similar variants in this same way? In my (albeit limited) experience most other games would have some other resource that is used up in order to upgrade cards so the number of copies of that card in circulation is not reduced. E.g. in Marvel Snap you can upgrade your cards but no cards are 'lost' when a card is upgraded (and there's no trading anyway)

On a separate note, I'm also a little disappointed with what the shiny cards actually look like. They all just having the exact same holographic effect on the border / text section of the card. It would be nice if there was a bit more individualization to each shiny card or if there was a visual effect or animation on the image itself. I realise this would be a lot more work though and more difficult seeing as Avid don't create most of the images themselves so this is a much more minor critique

Idk if it’s the same for others but I feel like those shinies are just very fancy and expensive fusions. It doesn’t really add some new challenge to the game. I agree that this is quite killing the card trading as everyone is afraid of losing what might become very valuable next. What I would have done was something that adds a new mechanic and possibly is more accessible to everyone: card missions, which reward you with its shiny version. Just like you can read the fusion ingredients under a fusion card, under a shiny you can read what you have to do to complete it, and the higher the rarity, the longer or harder the challenge is. Example for comic sans: win 15 games in a deck with at least 7 gorgeous graphic designs and at least 7 grand designs.
Example for sbh: win 70 games while on a deck with Henrietta Swan Leavitt or Carl Sagan

Release a pack to draw those shiny cards at the time of release that way (new) players can obtain them without trading. No new pack makes the cards too scarce now 🥲

(This should help balance the shiny economy so players don’t feel they are impossible to get at the time of release and overtime the cards will become more scarce by themselves so it will still be a challenge once the pack expires… )

Also make the shinies SHINIER I fused some and they just aren’t shiny enough to make the payoff seem worth it…..

Reading through all of this, it seems as though:

  • shinies aren't universally despised, but
  • the choice of cards used for shinies was so terrible (for all the reasons listed above) that it completely soured the experience for a vast majority of the people willing to raise an opinion about it, and
  • the actual effect is somewhat underwhelming.

The most logic solution to me would have been to start with (and maybe roll back to) a collection of non-limited, non-meta cards with character (y'know, cards that are unique enough to be interesting and collectable as shinies while still not being super hard to attain - I'd cap the rarity at limcoms to start with) so that most people can get a taste of the shinies without it deleteriously affecting trading, gameplay and collecting.

Seriously though, who've thought the day would come that Avid executes an otherwise decent idea poorly enough that it unites both the competitive players, the hardcore traders and the collectors in protest. That is quite the achievement.

Reading your post made me feel sad, because I would love this feature (missions for shinies), but I'm also very skeptical that Avid would be willing to put the dev resources into something like that. Maybe my view is skewed because I've been in and out this year, but it seems like the big focus on their end is undermining the trade market (the summer trade bar craziness and now this). It doesn't feel like there's as much interest in building fun features that would improve the player experience, but maybe I'm being unfair and forgetting something cool from this year.

I love the idea of quests to get shinies. Though thats a lot of work. Im also still partial to the idea of using other cards from the same collection for shinies similar to crafting but using all varieties of rarities. That way the cards that are burned from the game are less costly lim commons and maybe rares and at a push even epics. I just think using duplicate limlegs is the worst solution to add this mechanic (im aware cards of all rarities can be shiny)

I didn't really consider it before but the choice of first cards to release as shinies is actually really poor. I have 4500 unique cards and not even close to being able to craft a single one. Most players likely have zero chance to take a look at a shiny anytime soon.. feature for the brass only

If they'd started with non-limiteds I'm pretty sure this would have been a whole other — mostly positive — conversation. The gripes about the apparently mediocre effect (I wouldn't know first-hand kekw ) and the card completion counter would still be valid, but the most vociferous complaints are directly linked to rarity and playability.

Remove those things from the equation and I'm pretty sure the response would improve significantly.

Daily player for 4 years now wiith (near) complete collection, put in some cash every now and then and still able to craft only 1 shiny. This selection of eligible cards was a very poor decision.

Next to that, the one that I did craft left a very underwhelming feeling. They look incredibly dull, nothing special. I expected something more like the card design on mythics. Bolder edges, playing with bevel and emboss, maybe even a golden title colour, etc. There are so much design options to make the cards stand more out when shiny.

Yeah, hard to feel enthusiastic about a feature that demonstrably worsens the experience for 99% of players (who will find trades harder thanks to higher prices and hoarding for possible future updates, but can't hope to make a shiny). And it's all so a handful of super-veterans and whales can craft a very slightly different version of already-expensive cards. I don't see why Avid is claiming this is exciting news for the average player.

Hopefully Avid will give more detail tomorrow about their purported plans to balance that.

Okay, I just managed to get my first Shiny (listen, choosing Comic Sans as a shiny was just absolute genius 🤣 ), and this might be an unpopular opinion but I'm totally happy with how they turned out. 1. A shiny shouldnt count into collection.
  2. If I have a shiny card, I shouldnt need the normal version of that card.
  3. Shinies should just be a very lucky encounter. The ability to merge a shiny card, destroys the shiny experience. Shiny pokemon are cool, cause you have to be very lucky to find them, there is no point in merging them.
  4. The ability to merge a shiny also destroys the market. The trade market already was a pain in the ***, now the chances to get a smbh at the market -a card that is essential for many decks- is below zero.
  5. My idea of a shiny card is, that its scarce, the colour effect is a nice to have, but scarcity is the factor that makes a card desireable.
  6. If you really dont want to turn back now, as a compromise, you could make some shinies craftable and some shinies "pack only shinies", just an idea.
  7. I'd like to see different styles of shinies, some shinies are only card border shinies, other very scarce shinies could show a different art style.

I really like the idea of shinies, but the implementation is suboptimal in my opinion.

I feel instead of requiring copies of the same card, you should be able to turn dupes of any rarity into dust that can be used to make shinies of the same album. Rarer cards give more dust, and rarer shinies take more dust. But this way, it doesn't make shiny collection based on getting a ton of copies of specific cards, and limits trading impact

vagrant hornet
#

I do not like the way this has been implemented. Limiteds being consumed to make shinies makes everything more scarce and thus more expensive, which will keep happening to random cards as they get shiny versions.

For players like myself who enjoy completing their collection, this goal is now too expensive without paying a lot of $$$.

I think instead of being a fuse-able card that can be traded, they should have been untradeable special leagues or events rewards, like the thread I linked below. Maybe we can stop the fuse-able shinies with what we have now, and move towards this sort of system instead.

Just a couple of stock image stats doesn’t make it worth it for me to make them. I’m not saying shinies were a bad idea, just that they were implemented poorly. Please eliminate the shinies entirely @bitter night @hearty echo @spare star and anyone else I missed!

I’m sure they look nice, but to have players lose out on having collections completed just because of a variant is ridiculous. If they can’t be removed entirely, at least make them not count towards a complete collection.

I know the more obvious bugs had to get fixed first, but I'd still love to hear Avid's thoughts on how this shiny implementation is going to affect card rarity. I've been discouraged to hear people in Trade Chat not wanting to trade any dupes now or actively buying up cards to hoard for future shinies (along with a few folks quitting in frustration), and so it seems like a lot of stock is going out of circulation. Anecdotally I've been finding it harder to trade even for non-shiny-related cards, but possibly it's just that people's attention is elsewhere.

Avid has said they knew this could be an issue (and I suspect it was also a goal), but that plans were afoot to mitigate this. Any updates on that part?

Not trying to argue. Just a different perspective.

  1. Greater scarcity means greater value on what you do have.

  2. When perfection becomes harder to attain, it actually moves closer to true perfection. Attainable perfection is boring. Isn't it exhausting to hunt every new issue like it's the last vial of insulin in a civil war? How do you maintain that and still enjoy the game? That feels like a job to me.

  3. Who cares what others do? How did they get the cards they are refusing to trade? With time and effort (not just purchase), can anyone obtain those cards? I get that it will be harder, but see points above.

  4. What's the fun in having every single card, doubles of every single card? Unique, just like a hundred other players? Make your deck unique, the cards you like.

Shinies are a way for me to showcase the select cards that I love (currently only two 😕). I keep my hoarded "showcase" cards at or below 1% of my total unique card count (currently 44 of the 5149 unique cards that I have). And if I can stay at around 90% of all cards available, that's good for me. Zero anxiety.

I have 17 Pearl cards 🤷 Merging them into 2 Shinies (with change), that is fun. For me. And even if Shinies weren't a thing, I still wouldn't trade you one of my showcase cards anyway. So, you're not missing out or experiencing greater difficulty in trading me for one of my 331 Playing Cards cards. There is no scenario that I would trade away that card anyway. Shinies have no effect on my trade decisions.

But I will trade you my 2nd Arthropleura for a 4th King Arthur. That's unique. That's fun.

Response to #1:

True, that is, if you do have the cards that matter. And besides, it misses the point of the game as will be explained in #2 below.

Response to #2 and #4:

This game is called Cards, The Universe, and Everything. It's about battling in weird and random ways like destroying a bunch of tanks and airplanes with food or clothing. This card game differentiated itself from the competition on that alone, because every other card game (at least it used to be) was confined in its own universe or theme or lore or world physics (think Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh or MTG or Gwent etc etc etc), but not this game. I would like to believe that for the majority of people, that is why they were drawn to this game and why they have fun.

And therefore, of course you want to have every single card so that you could try out other weird and random things and not just stick to a few decks. People who hoarded duplicates before the shiny was more of just a hobby, there was no real incentive or reward in doing it and is more of a natural evolution in the community and that's fine.

Response to #3:

It matters because you yourself said that there are 5000+ cards already in the game. Think about the % chance that if you don't trade, that you'll get exactly the cards you were looking for by merely opening packs and doing the dailies. I think this is why we have trade in the first place, ergo, you got something you can give away that you have a dupe of or don't need, I have something to exchange that i have a dupe of or don't need, we both get what we want, we can expand our collections together and have more fun together because we can try out new decks.

It's about 70% that I've mostly run out of things to collect, organically hitting the "end", and 30% that I suspect CUE is on the downhill slope. The trade bar stuff this summer was really discouraging, and this flawed shiny rollout makes me think that Avid's limited resources are going into Eerie Worlds instead of CUE these days (the bugs, the failure to release reg shinies along with lims, and the limited communication with the player base about how concerns are going to be addressed).

In the unlikely case that any newer players are reading this thread, check out my everything-must-go giveaway in the trade post! Thanks for all the fun times everybody.
