I like what Avid is doing here, but I think it can be pushed further. Right now we have self burn buffs and that's it. What about offensive burn? What about a mix deck? What about a real self burn deck that isn't running two cards and Guivre/Kasha?

First, one change I highly recommend is making Guivre go from Draw to On Play, and lowering the perm from 25 to 10/15. This would make it an actually good card to play in self burn while still maintaining the risk of buffing your opponents cards if they're running a DtH or something similar. This would make Guivre more consistent and viable to a self burn deck while Kasha is better in a mix deck, since it applies hefty burn but is only on draw for the buff

Below will be card ideas that toy with burn in ways that open up new avenues for deck building

To start, Burn is too slow. What about ways to toy with speeding up the process? If a card is burning 25 for the round on turn 1, this card will apply all 75 points of burn at once, assuming it has 75 base power to burn.

Not all versions of this have to be so extreme, this is more of a proof of concept. There could be a card that makes currently burning cards get their next burn effect happen instantly instead of end of turn. Example, if a card is burning 25 for 3 turns, a card could make all burn effects happen now instead of until end of turn. The card will lose 25 and the duration of it's burn will go from 3 to 2

Next is the idea of "Snuffing Out". A card is considered "Snuffed Out" if its base power is depeleted completely. A snuffed out card is not considered burning for cards like Jungfrau, Guivre, and Kasha. Snuffed out can be used for positive or negative effects.

next, I would like to bring back the short time where the order you draw cards mattered

for Kasha and Guivre, the recent rewording made it clear, only cards burning at the start of the turn get the buff

but it doesn't have to be this way, we can add on this layer of complexity to this game. If you draw Fire Extinguisher first in a turn, it'll only be able to Snuff Out 2 possible cards, but if you draw it with Door to Hell, and Door to Hell's draw effect activates first, Fire Extinguisher will Snuff Out all of your cards

Also works if you a deck has powerful Snuff out effects without making the player wait and lose their base power

in actual implementation, Snuff Out cards like this would be harder to activate, due to the possible benefits you could get from cards that care about things being Snuffed Out

To conclude, Burn can be pushed as a more interesting mechanic and I think should be. Some changes that I think would be beneficial to expand and create new deck archetypes would be

  1. Make completely burning a card matter. Give players positive and negative effects for having a card lose all it's base power. Positive effects would help a self burn deck that uses Guivre and negative effects would help for offensive burn.

  2. Make draw order matter again. Guivre and Kasha are fine as is, but cards that care about others being burned (or snuffed out) happening on draw without being limited to just the 2 cards you had in hand before would be amazing. It adds a layer of complexity to the game that it doesn't have.

  3. More avenues to make burn happen faster. While it doesn't have to be through a card like Black Body Radiation, there should be ways to make burn happen quicker than end of turn, it allows burn to be more useful in an offensive burn decks. And if cards caring about things losing their base power existed, in would be helpful it getting those effects

  4. Make Guivre on play for a smaller buff. As it stands, it's just a worse Kasha now, and it desperately needs something to make it stand out

i still think burn should be more directed to screwing your opponent then being a healthy archetype for the player playing it

I think there should be both, but it is weird that there is offensive burn buff yet but we have Guivre, Kasha, and Jungfrau
