#bambu studio outer wall issues

Only been in this hobby for a couple days. Can someone point me in the right direction as to why I often see bambu studio do this to the outer walls. I've noticed whenver it leaves those patches on the outerwalls the print will be really nasty in those areas but smooth in every other area? Is there anyway I can easily fix this? These are models coming from makerworld.

The only way to reduce these is by reducing the layer height

#

Plus if it's ABS you could give them an Acetone vapour treatment- easier than it sounds.

#

That will make it smooth

Yeah changing layer height improves it, but can someone explain technically why it’s doing that. Why can’t the slider have an algorithm to make it so shallow surfaces have better coverage?

however, you can't go to low on the layer as this can have other negative effects, I wouldn't go below 0.08, although people do print lower than this.

The technical reason is that you have the model set to single walls. When the slicer slices the model, the height of the layers and the low angle of the geometry means that the extrusion width can't cover that gap.

As for why the algorithm can't just "figure it out", that's actually a fair question. But currently it is doing exactly what you're telling it to do. You may consider Orca slicer which is a fork built on top of Prusa\Bambu and has more features, but nothing in there may automagically fix this situation.

I'd suggest:

  • More walls
  • Lower layer height
  • unless there was a specific reason you needed this in vase mode, slice it like a "normal" part with some infill, top layers, 2-3 walls ect...

Just noticed you have the g code preview to have only outer walls on.

#

Is that intentional?

#

I must be misunderstanding the situation. Sorry for any confusion.

so sorry for late reply, I need to get ito habit of being on discord more. Here is another sliced preview at .08 High quality profile. I previously only showed the outer wall so you could see the large gaps it was making. Bsaically i'm just looking for anymore tips on slicing these models to their full potential. Anyatime i see those patches and I print with matte, i can see and feel those rough spots, everything else looks amazing

Disable single wall top layers.

Other option is to use a different infill pattern for solid infill
