#Seeking to improve bottom of print quality (understandably knowing it will never be perfect)

I’m looking to improve the quality of the bottoms of my prints to at least the point of minor rework tops.

I’m using an OG ender 3 with the only upgrades being a Creality Spider 3.0 metal hot end, and Creality Sprite Extruder. I’m using a Creality MK 8 .2 Nozzle and printing with Elegoo standard PLA.

Notable print settings using Cura:
-50mm/s print speed
-.04 Layer Height
-200C nozzle temp
-60C bed temp
-15% infill
-Printing outer walls first toggled on
-Printing with tree supports
-Support z-distance at .08mm

Other Notes: I’m 2 months into 3D printing where I got an ender 3 for free that had some issues I’ve had to troubleshoot. Machine is running super smooth, adhesion with the raft is great and the small office it is located in is set to 21C room temp.

What we have here is a wing for a zombie dragon miniature printed in an orientation that would give the top size the best chance of a nice finish (looks spectacular and I’m super happy with the top layers!)

As you can see in the pictures is the

  1. Front of the completed print on tree supports
  2. Back of the completed print on tree supports
  3. The underside of the print with the tree supports broken off and the support “skin” still attached to the part
  4. Peeling back said support skin at an area that was about 45 degrees from horizontal (not that in the stl these are smooth surfaces and you can see the rough surface)
  5. Support skin practically welded to areas at a close to horizontal level as well as the skin that did pull up has deep undulations INTO the part. While the next (lower) segment of the bottom side of the wing was at a steeper angle and turned out almost flawless.

I want to try to improve the bottom of the prints in 2 ways if possible.

  1. Lower the amount of recesses into the part and make it smoother
  2. Prevent welding of the support skin to the horizontal flat surfaces (objectively more important)
