I'm trying to improve the quality of my top layers, I've tried ironing but it still shows all of the unevenness underneath.

I have an Ender 3 with a BMG clone extruder and CR-Touch.
I'm using the defaults of Prusa Slicer and the problem appears in both PLA and ABS.

I checked the Linear Advance settings, E-Steps, and the bed leveling fade hight is disabled.

Here are some pictures of the best results I got so far:

I'm considering the following two solutions:

#
  1. Making sure that the X gantry is square and setting a fade height of a few mm so that ABL won't affect the top layer.
#
  1. Installing the spare HGT extruder that I have laying around in a direct drive configuration.

I'd like to know your thoughts about this.

I'll give that and hilbert curve a try.

Hilbert curve is more decorative monotonic works the best

Monotonic is the default used by Prusa Slicer so I'm back to square one here.
