So, I just got the Saturn 8k and I'm having trouble getting supports to stick.. Here's the test:
I used the lifting speeds recommended on the Bernie post, and it seems like the only way to get them to connect is by overexposing things >.<

Any thoughts? Could my fep filter be too tight/lose or is this a settings issue.

Settings

#

Printing at 27 c room temp with the Elegoo Water Wash in Gray

2.25 expo went better, the "thick cube" is in place nicely, the other one is holding for dear life, but the rest of the test is very clearly overexposed right?

lets see the support settings

#

if your getting supports detaching with these settings then the issue is either bad resin of the support contacts are too fine or the surface are of the layers is too extreme for the supports

So yea I managed to print a presupported lilith bust fine, but the base didn't print, HOWEVER, I managed to print it with my own supports (heavy) & bigger holes.

#

I'm gonna try a print from a "trusted" creator now that I know SHOULD work to see if the supports still break

#

This is the presupported base that would not print

#

And this is the one that did print

#

(failed print had 3 holes, mine did 5)

there is NO SUCH THING as a TRUSTED creator, they can not know what resin, printer or settings you are using

#

it is 1000x better for you to take the time to learn how to support your own models

#

its not hard

#

only a few rules

#

always tilt the model, never have any surfaces or straight edges paralel to the build plate

#

use auto support in chitubox with medium supports then manually add some heavy supports at the low points to do the most of the lifting, add some light supports to hold fine details

#

just remember resin printing is a game of reducing the lift forces

#

each new layer has a surface area that is stuck to the FEP, the rest of the model and the supports holding that model need to be strong enough to peel that new layer off the FEP

normal anvil
#

Yea I gotchu

#

I guess my thinking when saying "trusted creator" is someone that would probably adhere to the rules you mentioned

#

I guess I still don't understand why the damn test model cube won't stay, even at speeds lower than the recommended here. without getting overexposed >.<

#

what resin

#

some resins are just shit

#

like anycubic resins

normal anvil
#

its elegoo water wash

#

i do have anycubic water wash too (that i used on my m2) and it was fine tbh

#

Might go for the Sirayatech waterwash

elfin anchor
#

siraya tech has the best reliability

#

elegoo WW is a mixed bag, often people have had trouble with it, one guy had the most amazing detail prints with it

#

but on a whole its reliability is hit and miss

normal anvil
#

Yea might as well bite the bullet, the price point is a little up there for me in comparison (mostly due to fking shipping)

#

I put 2 character heads next to each other 1 with my supports 1 presupported, mine printed.

But again I had to do fairly heavy supports and it's overexposed... At this point Ive done so many tests that I'm almost glad I'm running out of this specific resin

in general water washable resin will never be as good as regular resins, even the ST resin still needs liike 30% IPA in the water for good clean

#

however the ST resin is 100x more reliable than the other brands

#

these are 2 resin printed RC planes I made using ST fast mixed with ST Blu

normal anvil
#

Yea that makes sense

#

Well that's new, it detached from the plate..

#

Like, pick a struggle man, are you gonna be underexposed overexposed fail supports or detach from the plate..

#

Increased bottom layers and exposure time, let's see how that goes...

elfin anchor
#

45sec bottom exposure is abut the best you can do, any longer will not make a dif

#

but im seriously starting to think you just got a bad batch of goo

normal anvil
#

Yea same, might try some old(ish) anycubic one that I still have that printed completely fine

#

For water wash, do u still recommend ST?

#

Sidenote, success with significantly bigger holes at the bottom and +2 btm layers +10 btm layer exposure

elfin anchor
#

the things I would recommend is to stop mucking about with the water washable stuff

#

just grab some ST fast and set up a simple 2 stage IPA wash

#

cleaning with IPA is simply far better

normal anvil
#

I know it also dries quicker which makes curing not leave those shiny spots but

#

i just idk... the whole process of wash and cure, change alcohol every so often, have sticky fingers cause gloves can't do their one job

#

last time a year-ish ago i did and after i was done with a few prints i never touched resin 3d printing again cause i was like nah too much fuck this

#

that being said, the biggest difference so far does seem to be making sure i do my own supports & slightly bigger than id normally do holes

#

So yea you were definitely right on the fuck "trusted" anyone

elfin anchor
#

working with IPA can be far easier and less sticky than you think

#

just gotta find the workflow

#

having a flex plate is a huge part of making resin printing easy

#

getting som easy to handle tongs or long tweasers make the cleaning so easy
