yes it was although i dont know why. I tried to make sure the bed was clean

ive tried printing it 3 more times and each time it detaches in some way or another by the time it fails.

Sounds like bad filament or wrong setting or bad adhesion. Can you provide further informations? What Material are you trying to process? What printing surface are you using? What temperatures did you tried?

how would one go about printing just one layer

aborting the print after the one layer is easy enough. or just get a video of it printing the first layer (get the camera all up in there)
