Hey, i bought a b550 tomahawk max wifi and i have 2 M.2s, a samsung 990 and a samsung 970. My Gen 4 SSD slot works fine however my other m.2 slot doesnt work at all. ive tried multiple different ways but just cannot seem to get it to work. Any help would be appriciated 🙂

what processor are you using, and when you say the others arent working, i take it to mean that in windows they do not show up under the device manager to be able to format them?

im using R5 5600x, the drive doesnt even show up in bios

potent acorn
#

and to confirm, the one that is showing up is the top most m.2 drive

shut lake
#

the only one showing is in the Gen 4 slot

#

below the processor

#

the gen 3 underneath the GPU is not showing

potent acorn
#

is the pgu plugged into the first or second slot

#

gpu

1st

potent acorn
#

have you attempted to reseat the m.2

shut lake
#

yup

#

multiple occasions

#

blue is working

#

red isnt

potent acorn
#

yes i got ya, im going through the manual currently

shut lake
#

ah ok, i seen some videos but if im honest. Dont really understand why its not working

potent acorn
#

this drive, is it a new one, or does it have older information on it

shut lake
#

1 is brand new

#

1 is old

#

but ive put both m.2s i have into the first and into the second. On the first (blue) its picking them both up. On the second(red) its not picking up any

okay, just making sure it wasnt an issue with legacy bios compatability. have you tried reseating the cpu? if some pins arent making full contact this can happen, it shares lanes with the 2nd pcie slot, plugging your graphics card into the 2nd slot would likely be a fast way to see if that is the cause

shut lake
#

na i havent tried doing reseating the CPU as have my pump ontop of it now

potent acorn
#

i can get that, try the graphics card in that 2nd slot and see if it works, should be a quicker way to test

shut lake
#

do you reckon it could be anything else?

potent acorn
#

does everything else show up in the bios

shut lake
#

yup

#

just that slot that doesnt

potent acorn
#

so at this point the options are, cpu not fully seated, damaged chipset, or damaged motherboard

#

as that slot goes through the chipset

shut lake
#

ah alright

potent acorn
#

of course, not saying you damaged anything, if it is either of those other 2, then may just need to do an rma

shut lake
#

yeah, might have to have a look tomorrow or something when i have more time. just seeing if it could be any like mobo drivers or something idk

#

as only built it yesturday

potent acorn
#

it is always good to update your drivers and look at a bios update if you havent, but not seeing it at all doesnt make me hopeful.

shut lake
#

fun times, well i appriciate the help and ill see what i can find i guess 🙂

potent acorn
#

feel free to keep us updated, and do try those updates first

shut lake
#

yeah

potent acorn
#

just in case needed for those drivers

shut lake
#

i downloaded msi center when first booted. and that downloaded a bunch of drivers

potent acorn
#

okay, then that site should have the bios update, and a video on how to use m-flash for the bios, as i do not think msi center updates the bios

shut lake
#

alright

shut lake
#

so i managed to sort the issue, it was just a bios update
