Hello, can someone help me, I have a MSI Nightblade Mi2 i7 with a GTX 970 and yesterday I opened the case to clean the video card a bit because there was a bit of dust in it, but I didn't take anything out or anything, I just blew it a bit. and that's it and now i'm stuck at msi click bios 5 and when i press escape i'm taken to a black screen with "checking media preense" and i'm sent back to msi click bios 5 how can i fix this problem? I really need my pc for school and to game sometimes and I don’t really have that much experience and knowledge from PC’s

Hey. It looks like your boot priority is trying to boot from a media CD first, vs your windows boot manager.
Power ON the PC, press the Delete key a few times to enter BIOS.
"Boot Priority" should be visible on the first page. Either drag and drop the icons using the mouse cursor, or use the keyboard to change the boot order (press the arrow keys until the Boot Priority section is highlighted, press Enter key on a device to select it, than use arrow ke...
This didn’t work 😕
Is there someone pls that can help me
Did you see Windows Boot Manager as an option for the boot priority at all?
Yes
It’s a option
Was it the first option? That photo you took did not show it.
@patent yacht
I clicked on windows boot manager
And my pc restarted
And was again on the back screen with
Checking media pretense
Precense
And it turned back to the bios screen
This photo is still showing a CD icon as the first boot option, not the windows boot manager.
your storage is no longer detected?
what ssd/hdd is it using?
physically inspect and check your storage
make sure it's installed securely
I wanted him to see if he could change the boot priority first, before reopening the device. Rewatch the video and follow the steps to change the boot order and see if you can find the windows boot manager that is installed on your drive.
I honestly don’t know
It’s a pre build msi nightnlade mi2
That I got from a marketplace
I got it like 7mo the now
Months
Okayy
Take photos at each step you are on, but basically you just need to go to Settings>Boot>Boot Option #1 (Select it and take a photo)>Select the one that has a Windows Boot Manager.
Got it, I don’t see it either, but select UEFI Hard Disk, the second from the top.
I selected it
Alright, and now let’s see if your laptop can detect the drive.
I’m on pc
You want me to restart it?
Try it.
Now let’s see if the system can even find your drive. Go to Settings>System Status and you will see a list of connected items.
Alright, do you only have two drives in that system?
Uhh I think only 1
Because I got like 2 slots
And only one of them
Got a drive thing
I also asked my friend
Does that system have a CD tray?
WSD wd10ezex-2 appears to be a 1TB Western Digital Hard Drive, and the tsstcorp cddvdw is a CD reader, so it is only detecting a single hard drive.
Yes I think it’s because I only got one drive
Okay, so that is why there are two devices.
Okay okay
What do I need to do now because I’m really worried
Now it is time to open that case back up and check the connections to make sure something didn't come loose. There should be two cables for the hard drive (HDD). One is going to be power and look like this:
Okak okay
The other is going to be for data and look like this:
Okay i Will check now
I think a cable or something hot loose
Got
While I was getting my pc up to my bed to clean it up
A. Bit
The first one will be plugged into the drive and the power supply. The second one will be connected to the drive and the motherboard.
Alright one sec
Opening up rn
@patent yacht
Uhh I see that this is unplugged
That looks like it is coming from the PCIE power for the GPU, and they come in a 6+2 because sometimes the device needs 6 pins but other times it could use all 8.
Ah okay
Uhh is there anything where I need to look now to see
If there is something unplugged
It looks like this system is one a combo data+power for the drive, they are not two separate cables. I can tell because that first photo looks like it can have a new drive installed at the top.
Ye I also think that the first owner upgraded it
But It was working fine
These months
hello. its me soulpatient friend
See how two cables are going into that black connector in that first picture? It looks like your HDD is plugged into one of those and the cables are plugged into that adapter.
Awesome
so., when he starts his pc he sees checking for media presence
Is the HDD installed in that system installed under that tray on the top, and have no access to it unless you take out the GPU?
and when he resets bios options to default he says windows boot manager
then when he saves it it goes away
and checking media precense again
Uh I honestly don’t know
Do I need to take out my gpu
That would go wrong
Never did that
Before
I can't tell based on the photos, so I was asking where the HDD is installed.
Before all of that, I forgot to ask, after you changed the boot order to the UEFI Hard Disk option, did you get that exact same error message?
Yes it got the same error
Checking media precense
And after that
It got me turned back to the boos
Bios
Screen
the hdd is not plugged in if i had to guess
Can you take another picture of the front of the system and make sure we can see all of it? Looks like part of the top is cut off.
At the very least I was thinking it was loose because it was detected in the bios still.
I am looking for another photo like this, but pulled back so I can see the whole system.
Do you have access to where those red and blue cables go?
Just not easy enough to unplug and plug it back in unless you took it a part. I can see the blue cable going to the bottom, but I can't tell if there is a second power cable going into that bottom slot like the top one has with the red cable. Do both of those adapters have two cables going to them?
Do I have to unplug my gpu
Maybe, but I am trying to avoid that if possible. Can you look down where the drives are installed and see if you can see two cables going into both of those drive bays? I can tell the one with the red cable has another cable installed into the power section, but I cannot tell with the blue one.
A 2.5" SSD or a M.2 installed directly on the MB?
i think a sata ssd
Okay, then he is missing a drive, because the bios did not show one connected, and the video he just took showed him only pulling out the 1TB Western Digital drive that was detected.
Do you remember pulling out another sled from that system when you were blowing it out?
I was just blowing a bit on the inside a bit
My cpu and some small
Dust spots
his hdd drive is not connected
On the side
he can pull it out
its not connected
but idk where his cable is
for the hdd
the othrs are connected to ssd
The sled connects into that black adapter in the back and the cables are plugged into that adapter.
It is designed so that when he slides the HDD back into the case that it connects to the cables and is detected by the system.
Back to a question that I had asked. Do you see two cables plugged into that black adapter that has the blue cable connected? The blue cable would be for data transfer, but the other cable is for power.
Yes I see 2 cables
@patent yacht I’m gonna bring this pc to @placid sun
He lives close to me
And he will look at it and see what’s unplugged
You can try that, but one thing I wanted to ask is was that drive that you pulled out always connected to that adapter with the red cable?
@keen panther Fair enough. You can check to see if any of the sata or power cables connected to those adapters came loose. He might want to try installing that drive into the adapter with the blue cable, and not the red one that he originally pulled it out from to see if it is detected.
Alright @placid sun will check it
I’m gonna bring now the pc to him and let’s see what he can do
@patent yacht I will keep ur updated thanks for trying to help me out man I appreciate it
No problem. You can try installing the sled in that other adapter before taking it to him and seeing if it will turn on.
Just make sure that the connectors on the HDD itself are aligned with the adapter when you put it into that other slot because I am not sure how the sled would be orientated going from that one slot to the other.
@patent yacht He had a m.2 ssd. But a bit was chipped off. He's ordering a new one
Good morning, can I see a photo? I am curious to see what that looks like.
it was litteraly broken, it was in half. no point
he ordered a new one
I see, that is impressive that something like that managed to happen. It is awesome that you found the issue and M.2 storage is cheaper than it has ever been.
interesting how cleaning the video card would cause that tho
nope. he shook his pc. and the m.2 broke
he cleaned his whole pc
