#CPU and DRAM error; BIOS won’t flash

Hello,

I’m having some issues with the MSI MAG Tomahawk x670e motherboard. I have a Radeon 7 7800x3d, which I’ve heard needs a BIOS update to work (hence the CPU and DRAM error LEDs?) so I’m trying to flash the bios. New version of the bios file is on a USB stick, it’s renamed MSI.ROM, and it’s plugged into the flash bios USB port. However, whenever I click the flash bios button I do not notice any LEDs indicating the BIOS flash process anywhere, aside from a red LED when I hold down the flash button that goes off as soon as I release the flash button. I’m really at my wits end here, can anyone help me out?

The MSI MAG Tomahawk x670e was released this year so will still be under warranty

They may ask for you to try different USB flash drives

#

in case the one you used isn't working.

At this point I feel like it has to be. I’ve spent two days trying to fix it :( I’ll get ahold of them tomorrow

Thank you for your help

According to your motherboard manual, there are 3 ways to update BIOS.

#

I'm assuming your motherboard is new and you do not have or installed an older CPU (supported by current BIOS version), then you would use the "Updating BIOS with Flash BIOS Button" method.

#

If you have installed an older CPU, then use M-Flash method (in BIOS menu). Updating BIOS with MSI Center can be riskier (Windows is involved that introduces more variables, thus increasing the likelihood of issues.)

#

If you do have the 7800X3D in hand, I would NOTuse the "Updating BIOS with Flash BIOS" method while the CPU is installed. Updating BIOS with Flash BIOS does not require a CPU.

#

Hopefully, MSI support will sort this out for you.

I called MSI, and they said the motherboard was faulty. Since the package was damaged, Amazon is sending me a new one for free :)

Yeah, receiving PC hardware with noticeable damage to the package box is definitely something to be weary about it.

Your new motherboard may already have the version of BIOS installed that supports the 7800x3d.

#

Depends on when it left the MSI factory and if the first compatible version of BIOS for the 7800x3d was installed.

The issue is that it just refused to flash :(

#

Either way, when I bought the motherboard there was only three left in stock, so the new one should be new stock anyway :)

Might still be worth your time contacting MSI support and providing them with the mobo serial number to see if they can check that your particular mobo already has the BIOS version supporting the 7800x3d.

#

If it does, then you can install the 7800x3d and other components and use the M-Flash method to update to the latest BIOS version for your motherboard.

The issue is that it won’t POST, either

#

I thought it wasn’t POSTing because it needed a new bios

#

But the bios won’t flash with the button, either :(

🤞 that the new motherboard has zero issues for you.

Good luck! 🙂
