#Power Button Delay on Motherboard

Hello, I have an MSI Z490-A Pro motherboard along with an i7 10700k. One issue I have with this setup is that most of the time when I turn on the PC, it usually takes 2-5 seconds to actually turn on after I press the power button, but sometimes mostly when I shutdown and turn on again without switching off on the wall, it instantly turns on.

It doesn't have any issue apart from this but I would really like to fix it. I have googled a lot but most similar issues are Asus motherboards with a bios reset switched accidentally being pressed by the I/O shield or something along those line. But this doesn't seem to be the same cause as my motherboard exhibits the same issue even out of a case. I have tried changing CMOS battery, reset bios and update bios, check capacitors for obvious issue as well but none of them seem to indicate or fix the problem.

This issue probably needs to be addressed in a more technical manner and possibly a hardware issue. I have some experience with repairs so if someone can point me to a potential fix, please let me know. Thanks.

Hey Seiji. Are you shutting down your PC via Windows, Start menu...

#

or shutting down via power button

#

Have you looked into ERP in your BIOS?

#

Have you looked into your PSU as a possible cause?

Just to be clear. From a cold start (PSU off or surge protector at off position) *then *switching PSU switch to ON position or surge protector ON, you see a 2-5 sec delay after pressing power button.

#

However, when you "Shutdown" PC via Start Menu and then press power button to restart PC, you see no delay with powering on after you press the power button.

Maybe there's a specific issue with the MSI Z490-A Pro. Maybe others are seeing this delay as well.

#

Try reseating RAM.

#

I wonder if it has something to do with how Windows handles PC shutdown, hibernation, and sleep

Have you tried different sticks? one stick?

#

Have you checked for relevant updates from the motherboard support page?

#

Have you tried powering on with all peripherals unplugged?

#

Have you double checked your front panel connectors?

#

Have you made sure clear CMOS jumper is in its default state? Meaning there is no jumper cap to short JBAT1.

You mentioned in your original post that "...Asus motherboards with a bios reset switched accidentally being pressed by the I/O shield or something along those line..." so maybe you left the jumper cap on.

If you somehow get another MSI Z490-A Pro motherboard to swap in, then that's something worth trying.

#

Double check all connections on your motherboard.

#

Good luck

I disassembled everything twice, even tried without cooler. It is perhaps a bug in the BIOS or a faulty component on the motherboard.

#

Thanks for helping

#

Yeah, oh well

#

Could very well be a faulty motherboard.

#

You would need another one to swap in to confirm that it's a bad mobo.

#

As long as performance of your system is stable after booting, then the Power On delay is just a minor inconvenience. :/

At this point, you could try flashing to an older BIOS if reflashing to latest one doesn't help.
