#Bazooka B450M XMP Profiles Crashing

Hey all, I have a B450M Bazooka Max Wifi, fully up to date bios and drivers, I keep getting memory related crashes. As a result of the issues I was having, I've just bought a brand new 32GB kit of Corsair Vengeance 3600Mhz. If I apply any kind of overclock (base XMP, or even clocked down to 3000Mhz) I get memory errors and system stability issues. I've hunted around the web, and the only answers I seem to find are "Don't run any kind of memory overclock, XMP/DOCP on MSI AMD boards" which kinda seems like a BS answer. Any suggestions?

What AMD CPU are you running?

That's what made me replace my ram kit, I ran it after installing the new ram without a hitch, but I can run it again.

If old and new rams are both having issues, might want to consider sending the board in for rma if it's still under 3 years warranty

The old ram had errors in memtest, new ram tested fully with a pass. Didn't know the warranty was 3 years, I'll dig up my receipt and see how long it's been

did the old ram have rgb by any chance

sweet pilot
#

Yes

shell oar
#

found the issue then

#

the b450 wasnt ready for RGB ram and the ram and slot both got damaged by overcurrent because it didnt know how to handle RGB ram properly

#

i know exactly that this is the issue because you're like the 4th person with that

#

your current ram is fine most likely but the board isnt

#

any board prior to like 2019 are most likely not ready for RGB ram

#

Awesome, I bought the system as a prebuilt at the start of the pandemic to avoid crazy GPU pricing, and it came with RGB RAM. Now, as the board is out of warranty, I guess I'm shopping for a new one.

Should I be concerned about potential damage to the new ram installed while I wait for a new board?

shell oar
#

depends on the way the slot was damaged

#

if it still has overcurrent issues now due to damage it could cause damage

sweet pilot
#

Good to know, thank you

Awesome @shell oar Glad you could help @sweet pilot

#

If ram passed memtest, then I was going to suggest that your mobo probably has issues.

#

We need a knowledge bank or Info center... or FAQ in community support so that if others come here with similar issues, then they can reference the Knowlege bank for solutions

shell oar
#

that would good especially with issues that are known but unknown by most people like older motherboards and rgb ram not working together well

#

this is literally the 4th person ive helped where the issue was a b450 with rgb ram that broke the ram and slot

#

some people just won't/can't use the search function

#

interesting to learn about the overcurrent issue caused by rgb tho

shell oar
#

it could theoretically cause corruption issues but the chance is pretty low

#

(if they're daisy chained slots)

sweet pilot
#

Knowledge base would be brilliant. I tried several searches before I posted and didn't find anything. And no need to worry about the new ram. Picking up a new board in about an hour

shell oar
#

ah awesome

shell oar
#

ever since im always asking people with b450s and ram issues if they have rgb ram lmao

sweet pilot
#

Yeah, sucks to be out the money, but the new board is a B550 with some nice upgrades

shell oar
#

or any older board really

shell oar
#

ive actually only seen this issue on b450s so far which is probably because people having b450s and rgb ram is way more common than older intel boards

#

people generally arent buying older intel boards because they arent as backwards comptible as amd considering you can use technically any of the ryzen up until 5000 on the b450
