If you take full ammo ammo rack you can be destroy easily.
I take about 30, and 1 shot dead is rarely. When you got hit and don't repair ammo rack next shot can be your end.
But if you have big problem on some tanks use wet ammorack.
Its the same situation like fire. For example t-44 fire extinguisher ist must.
So in my opinion its not big problem less ammo and be good. Just try.

Using less ammo doesn't get you out of risk as ALL the ammo hitboxes count for an ammorack even if you load a single bullet in.
However, since 6.0, risks of ammo-racks and fires has gone way down so, it isn't that worrying that it was years ago.
