#Possible X11 clients leak for discord

Hello, recently I encountered a problem where I can't open any new windows (including steam settings or steam game properties). Running through the terminal, the error responsible is "Maximum number of clients reached" which refers to X.org clients.

I was able to catch the culprit using xrestop when launched it will show "Monitoring XX clients" near the top. Default max clients for mint 22.3 seems to be 256, so once that number of clients is reached no new windows can be opened.

Exiting discord (I use flatpak version) dropped number of clients from 256 to 66, starting it again raised it to 80, suggesting the possible leak.

I ask people reading this to monitor their discord app (flatpak and deb) if the number of X clients rise as you use it, and if it ever gets near 256 for you, thank you.

i've seen the same behavior, and i use discord, so i am running xrestop as requested.

ineed it seem that discord use an absurdly high amount of X connection...

#

chromium browser also use 7 X connections...

#

I seem to be a Chromium / Webkit / Blink behavior

#

Discord use 14 X connection at start on my side, which sound totally wrong to me since it should require only 2 or 3 for this kind of application.

And it slowly creeps up over hours of use

I also have been having this issue where I can't open any applications about a day after booting up. I'll run xrestop as well to see if it's the cause.

i've got xrestop reporting monitoring 256 clients and i can't open new windows.

Exit discord, wait a few seconds and start it again, then re-check

wxiting discord dropped it to 40, loading it back up jumped it to 56. and i can open new windows.

yeah, that the leak: It'll slowly climb back up to 256 after hours of use, until you exit it again

well at least that's 1000x less annoying than restarting the pc.

I seem to be having the same issue. But not only can I not open anymore windows but it seems discord is also blocking keyboard shortcuts and preventing me from locking mint or even switching users from the GUI. I assume these issues are related. Do we know of a way to fix this other than restarting discord?

#

Or is this something discord needs to fix on their end?

closed discord after several hours, 77 x11 connection closed

This is something discord devs should fix. You can increase the clients limit, but it'll just give you a bit more time. Otherwise, just restart discord once in a while.
