seems to be working better now
Ok, the driver is there. Now what game are you trying?
just ran Bloons TD6 to test and it was fine except that the in game cursor is tiny
going to try The Last Caretaker and Snowrunner later...
Ok, in case these heavier games run slow, go to game's properties and add launch option
__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only %command%
check if that's better or worse
👍 ty
still trying to install PIA
failed the first run...
it's not in the Software Manager, download from website
in the terminal run these
chmod +x ~/Downloads/pia-linux-3.7.2-08420.run
~/Downloads/pia-linux-3.7.2-08420.run
is that two separate lines? looks like the same command top and bottom
Yes, these are 2 lines, 1st allows the file to be executed, 2nd one launches the file
👍 okay, it's still loading from double clicking on the run file. I should wait to see if it works?
no, it tries to open it as a text file, so you can close it
okay
WoW... that was interesting lol
not quite as intuitive as Windows lol
we're cooking now 👍
It might be for software that is not in the software center
thank you very much for the assist, much appreciated
definitely a bit of a learning curve here
Ah, you can also right click the file, go to it's properties >> permissions and check "allow this file to be executed as a program" then double click it and choose "run" or "run in the terminal" if just run doesn't work. ....... I'm too used to terminal at this point )
That sounds easier for us old timers, learning code at this point in my life isn't easy lol
Reminds me of the old MS DOS days back in the 80's lol
It depends on the install method developer choose, .run and .sh files are best run from the terminal and .deb or .appimage run by just double clicking. And it's expected you get most of your software through software manager, but as you see not ALL possible apps are there.
All over the place really. /usr/bin for executables /etc for configs /usr/lib for libraries etc home folder for user specific configs and data
That's why package managers exist, to track all this
That's why it's advised to keep "non standard" installers like .run files if you want to uninstall them later
what about Steam game folders/saves
Steam stores it's stuff under .steam folder in your home mainly
perfect, thanks again. Off to do some outdoor rl work 🙄
you're welcome )
Okay, so Snowrunner is fine without any launch option. The Last Caretaker is better but still unplayable, takes 3 - 5 seconds to respond to mouse movement lol
Have you tried the launch options?
yes, on The Last Caretaker, there is some improvement but still can't play
Snowrunner did not need any options, it runs perfect without
I don't really need TLC to run on this machine, I mainly game on the desktop, this is just a backup and mobile so not a big deal if we can't make it work.
