#

when installing Mint there will an option in graphical installer, choose "Install Alongside whatever OS you had installed "

#

In this example above we have windows, in your case it would be Xubuntu

gritty oracle
#

ik

gritty oracle
#

wait can you give me 1 sec i need to go do something not on my pc

quasi vortex
gritty oracle
#

LMDE?

quasi vortex
gritty oracle
#

ohhh

gritty oracle
#

@quasi vortex

quasi vortex
gritty oracle
#

and why do you take a long time to reply @quasi vortex

quasi vortex
gritty oracle
#

oh sorry

#

do i need my phone

#

@quasi vortex

quasi vortex
gritty oracle
quasi vortex
gritty oracle
#

okay im booting

#

i have ventoy btw

quasi vortex
#

I believe you know how to go into BIOS, based on your conversation earlier with stunner

gritty oracle
#

its f2 for bios and to boot menu its f8

#

asus motherboard

quasi vortex
#

great now go to the point where you reached the partition editor on the installer

gritty oracle
#

1 sec im getting into boot menu

#

Would you look at that

#

@quasi vortex

quasi vortex
#

normal mode

gritty oracle
#

Normal or grub

#

Done

quasi vortex
#

if it doesn't work choose grub2

gritty oracle
#

Ik the logins but how do I dual boot and I'm new to ventoy

#

Suppose to be a black screen

quasi vortex
#

just wait

#

good

gritty oracle
#

Ik how to install Linux mint but I'll tell you when I'm on the page

quasi vortex
#

now test some stuff first like wifi or bluetooth

gritty oracle
#

Bro

#

My mother board doesnt have bluetooth or internet

quasi vortex
#

oh

gritty oracle
quasi vortex
#

mb

gritty oracle
#

So I hit install now

quasi vortex
#

yeah

gritty oracle
quasi vortex
#

go on

gritty oracle
#

What's boot repair

quasi vortex
#

for when you bork your bootloader

gritty oracle
#

Break?

#

Bork????

quasi vortex
#

yeah when you break it, it used to repair the bootloader

gritty oracle
#

Why is it stuck

#

Oh NVM it's not

quasi vortex
#

just wait, be patient

gritty oracle
#

My first time dual booting btw

quasi vortex
#

very nice

gritty oracle
#

Windows? Ad I never seen it

quasi vortex
#

after youre done installing you can pick which distro to boot via GRUB

gritty oracle
#

So once I boot I don't need to press keys and just that will pop up

quasi vortex
#

yes, then you can choose to boot either mint or xubuntu

gritty oracle
#

Ohhh

#

Niceee

#

It's getting hot in here I'm going to turn the ac

#

Wait vani can I change my grub?

#

I always wanted the grub with Minecraft one

#

@quasi vortex

quasi vortex
gritty oracle
#

REALLY

#

Stoped on this ad and it's taking so long

#

Checking. And I saw this

quasi vortex
#

thats the last slide, completely normal nothing to worry about

gritty oracle
#

HELPPP @quasi vortex

#

@quasi vortex help please

#

@quasi vortex bro what happened to it

#

@quasi vortex I'm screwed

quasi vortex
#

can you boot back into xubuntu?
and reflash your usb? using gnome-disks-utility?

#

if you dont have there install sudo apt install gnome-disks-utility

gritty oracle
#

IDK

#

How do I check

quasi vortex
#

or just try to reinstall again

gritty oracle
#

HOW

quasi vortex
#

I mean boot back into mint and try to install it alongside xubuntu again

gritty oracle
#

No I don't want xubuntu

quasi vortex
#

well you can replace xubuntu with mint if your willing

gritty oracle
#

Do I hit ok and clean install

quasi vortex
#

yeah

#

you can copy your files from the xubuntu install to an external hard drive on the live environment

gritty oracle
#

NOOOOOO STOP PLEASE

quasi vortex
#

reboot and boot into the usb again

gritty oracle
#

Are you sure

quasi vortex
#

yes

gritty oracle
#

Wish me luck

#

I tried to shut down the computer @quasi vortex

quasi vortex
#

hit enter and go into bios to boot back into the USB

gritty oracle
#

Without removing the usb

quasi vortex
#

yeah

gritty oracle
#

Okay

#

Fuck it no more mint😭

#

@quasi vortex I'm terrified

quasi vortex
#

shutdown -> remove usb -> replug -> turn on -> boot into mint

gritty oracle
quasi vortex
#

ok there we go

#

now go mint

gritty oracle
#

I didn't do anything yet

#

I'm scared

#

@quasi vortex

quasi vortex
#

can you boot using grub2 and not normal?

gritty oracle
#

HOW DO I GET OUT

quasi vortex
#

reboot

gritty oracle
#

Help please😨

#

Howw do I reboot

quasi vortex
#

hold power button

#

until your pc shuts off

gritty oracle
#

This restarts

quasi vortex
#

restart button?
cool

gritty oracle
#

Yea

#

Vani I'm sorry I'm scared

#

My heart is beating 3 times

quasi vortex
#

dude relax

#

fear will not install mint on your computer

gritty oracle
#

No

gritty oracle
quasi vortex
#

ok whatever your decision is I respect it

gritty oracle
#

Thanks

quasi vortex
#

thats just ventoy being goofy, thats why I dont use it, instead I flash the iso directly

#

into the usb

dreamy pelican
gritty oracle
dreamy pelican
#

bad idea

gritty oracle
#

Lvm?

#

What's that and what does it mean

dreamy pelican
#

well, it also said sda

#

I think you have nvme drive yes?

gritty oracle
#

Uhh ig so

#

Wait my sad is beside my gpu

dreamy pelican
#

if u have pc open, look in terminal: lsblk -o name, model

gritty oracle
#

Ssd

dreamy pelican
#

yeah but check the command

gritty oracle
#

Is that an nvme

#

It's covered btw

#

And my PC is off

dreamy pelican
#

ok

#

maybe sda is ssd, but anyway, leave for now

#

NO LVM

#

remember that

gritty oracle
#

What is LVM

#

Stunner

dreamy pelican
# gritty oracle

something that shows here. which is either a mistake on your part, or wrong hardware was picked in the installer

gritty oracle
#

Ohh

dreamy pelican
#

logical volume management. makes too much complication.

#

avoid it.

gritty oracle
#

So should I show you all of the pictures I took

dreamy pelican
#

no

gritty oracle
#

Oh okay

dreamy pelican
#

leave for tomorrow . g2g

gritty oracle
#

Okay see ya

#

Stunne I could open my PC today

#

Or I might sleep

opal scaffold
#

@gritty oracle what is the problem exactly ?

gritty oracle
#

So I tried to dual boot mint and uhh

#

Here's the images of what happened

opal scaffold
#

installer crashed ?

gritty oracle
#

You don't understand how terrified I was

opal scaffold
#

because it's not terrifying to me... does the computer still booting Ubuntu correctly ?

gritty oracle
#

Stunner told me to keep it in air and put it in 2.0 back in my pc

opal scaffold
#

so, nothing too harmful

gritty oracle
#

I think it was to me

opal scaffold
#

Your USB stick is an old Sandisk, right ?

gritty oracle
#

Uhhh does this look old

opal scaffold
#

yes, i bet it has almost 10 years, right ?

gritty oracle
#

No i bought it in April and I joined this server because I hate ai helping me

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

Yes

opal scaffold
#

damn, Sandisk is defintely shitty brand

gritty oracle
#

I mean I have the recipe but it's on my box but there's a lot of boxes here

#

I forgot where I put it

opal scaffold
#

I beleive you

gritty oracle
#

Oh wait I bought it In April when it was about to be April 2

opal scaffold
#

don't care, it's a new one, so it should not produce read error

#

theoretically

gritty oracle
#

Yes everyone told me it's my fault

#

It wasnt

opal scaffold
#

unless you moved the USB stick while installing

gritty oracle
#

I swear to God I didn't move it I was laying on my bed and it poped up

opal scaffold
#

ok, plug your usb on computer and boot on Ventoy

gritty oracle
#

Ok do I put it back on my pc

opal scaffold
#

step by step show me the first menu you see

gritty oracle
#

Stunner said I needed a 2.0 black port

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

My keyboard and mouse uses it

#

So I will change the spot on my mouse

opal scaffold
#

you can plug your keyboard and mouse on USB 3.0 port

gritty oracle
#

Okay

#

1 sec

#

@opal scaffold I'm back

#

I'll boot into boot menu

#

Ventoy

#

Wish me luck

#

@opal scaffold you there?

opal scaffold
#

yes

gritty oracle
#

Okay 1 sec booting into ventoy

#

@opal scaffold welp

opal scaffold
#

too fast

#

reboot and stop at second screen

gritty oracle
#

Too fast for what

opal scaffold
#

select file checksum

gritty oracle
#

Uhh what @opal scaffold second screen

opal scaffold
#

select linux mint

#

BUT stop after that

gritty oracle
#

Again?

opal scaffold
#

and select File checksum

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

FILE CHECKSUM

gritty oracle
#

IK

opal scaffold
#

wait

gritty oracle
#

Okay

#

Yeah?

opal scaffold
#

Select sha256sum

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

wait

gritty oracle
#

10% rn

#

Going so fast

opal scaffold
#

better fast than slow

gritty oracle
#

Takes almost 3 secs to get a %

#

30 rn

#

40%

#

50% halfway there

#

60%

#

70%

#

80% so close

opal scaffold
#

the important is the final result

gritty oracle
#

90% 10% left

#

Done!

opal scaffold
#

show result

gritty oracle
#

I took another since I thought it's kinda blurry for you

opal scaffold
#

bad checksum

gritty oracle
#

Why

opal scaffold
#

write error...

gritty oracle
#

Am I stuck forever in xubuntu

opal scaffold
#

shutdown computer

gritty oracle
#

How

#

Do I hit the restart button on my pc

opal scaffold
#

unplug USB stick boot to xubuntu and re-download the Linux mint ISO

gritty oracle
#

The circle is the restart button

opal scaffold
#

you press power button, it will shut off

gritty oracle
#

Yes this

#

In xubuntu @opal scaffold

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

i can finally type faster

#

wait so i dont need ventoy or keep it?

opal scaffold
#

For now download the ISO on your HARD DRIVE

gritty oracle
#

linuxmint-22.3-cinnamon-64bit(1).iso??? isnt that the same?

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

never download ISO file directly from the web to USB stick... NEVER

gritty oracle
#

its installed

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

oh yeah smart

opal scaffold
#

WIAT ok STOP

gritty oracle
#

? what

opal scaffold
#

You unpluged you USB Stick ?

gritty oracle
#

no

opal scaffold
#

Unplug your USB stick !

#

I told you to unplug it !

gritty oracle
#

Done!

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

Now... Download Linux Mint iso on your Hard-Drive/SSD

gritty oracle
#

huh

#

how?

opal scaffold
#

gritty oracle
#

clicku?

#

i know that

opal scaffold
#

so why did you ask ?

#

you download the file on your hard drive

gritty oracle
#

no i only saw that in update linux mint when you uhhh make your internet good

#

i didnt know that

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

this thing when you have an update and theres a thing you can make your internet good

opal scaffold
#

But, what are you talking about that ?

gritty oracle
#

why is clicku taking so long to loud

opal scaffold
#

Can you stay focus please ?

gritty oracle
gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

I don't give a shit about update, i want you to download the iso file on your hard drive

#

is it possible, yes or no ?

gritty oracle
#

cicku is taking so longgg

opal scaffold
#

you wait !

#

You want working things ? Take time for things to properly achieve

gritty oracle
#

ohh okay

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
opal scaffold
#

for now the only thing i want you you to do is to download iso file on your hard drive

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

are you english speaker ?

gritty oracle
#

i needed you to confirm

#

bro im just scared i dont wanna break my pc

opal scaffold
#

You can't break your computer downloading a file !

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

it's only a file !

gritty oracle
#

whys there two linux mint files

opal scaffold
#

because the browser automatically rename the second occurrence if file with same name already exists

gritty oracle
#

linuxmint-22.3-cinnamon-64bit(2).iso linuxmint-22.3-cinnamon-64bit(1).iso

opal scaffold
#

the (2) file the latest your downloaded

#

Oh shit, how many time did you downloaded this file ?

gritty oracle
#

oh okay

#

i clicked it one time i swear

opal scaffold
#

did the download finished ?

gritty oracle
#

the mint one yes both are but cicku is still loading

opal scaffold
#

in don't understand "cicku"

#

what is "cicku" ?

gritty oracle
#

its cicku you send me that link?

#

you mean clicku?

#

its actually called cicku

opal scaffold
#

Oh shit...

#

cancel it

#

abord this download

#

close your browser

#

close everything

gritty oracle
#

I DID

#

OH NO

#

IS MY IP LEAKED

opal scaffold
#

no...

opal scaffold
#

please stop being afraid for nothing

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

it's only the regular mirror for linux mint downoad

gritty oracle
#

and i got scared

opal scaffold
#

don't be scared

gritty oracle
#

i did close firefox

opal scaffold
#

you are simply so scared you did a lot or mistake and do wrong things

#

asking too much questions

#

so, everything closed ?

#

eveything closed ?

gritty oracle
#

yes only discord

opal scaffold
#

Ok, open file manager, and go to your Download folder

#

and delete all variants of linuxmint-22.3-cinnamon* files

#

stop typing, do

#

delete all linuxmint-22.3- files

gritty oracle
#

uhh im not typing

#

i deleted it

opal scaffold
#

empty trash

gritty oracle
#

where is it

#

i removed icons

opal scaffold
#

don't know... anyway, you don't have any .iso file anymore in your download folder ?

gritty oracle
#

i only have pop os i installed that and put it in my ventoy

#

in downloads

opal scaffold
#

it's not installed

#

it's downloaded

#

did you understand the difference ?

gritty oracle
#

yes ik

#

uhh

opal scaffold
#

well

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

i needed to install them they are missing

opal scaffold
#

ok, find someone elese to help you, I give up

gritty oracle
#

i mean stunner could help me but hes offline

#

you know what im staying in xubuntu

#

i didnt realized linux is this hard

opal scaffold
#

I try to help you, and you don't stop going everywhere

#

talking about update, now about themes

gritty oracle
#

dude you dont understand im stupid in linux and no one even understands me anymore

opal scaffold
#

how one can help you if you can't focus only 2 min ?

gritty oracle
#

ig its adhd i cant focus

opal scaffold
#

close this fucking theme window

gritty oracle
#

i did

opal scaffold
#

don't open anything

#

focus

gritty oracle
#

so i dont need discord?

opal scaffold
#

keep discord

gritty oracle
#

and i found out how i put icons again

#

so i cleared my trash

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

you sure thats the real one

opal scaffold
#

yes

gritty oracle
#

it downloaded faster than the other one

opal scaffold
#

it finished ?

gritty oracle
#

nooo

#

once i got on the link it downloaded the .iso file

#

12 sec

#

@opal scaffold done

opal scaffold
#

ok

#

plug your USB stick

gritty oracle
#

mother board or up

opal scaffold
#

motherboard

gritty oracle
#

okay 1 sec

#

plugged it

#

@opal scaffold yes

opal scaffold
#

ok

gritty oracle
#

do i click on ventoy

opal scaffold
#

there is something wrong here

gritty oracle
#

did i break it

opal scaffold
#

go on media/ruvox

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

eject it, and replug it

gritty oracle
#

and i did it

opal scaffold
#

show me file browser

gritty oracle
#

huh where

opal scaffold
#

the main window

gritty oracle
#

yeah?

opal scaffold
#

I want to see which media are mounted

gritty oracle
#

VTIOYEFI?

#

can you circle it please

opal scaffold
#

Do you have Disks app on Xubuntu ?

gritty oracle
#

yes

opal scaffold
#

open it

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

ok, your Ventoy is destroyed

#

you must redo it

gritty oracle
#

what

opal scaffold
#

damn...

gritty oracle
#

i dont wanna

#

so wait

#

VENTOY WAS THE PROBLEM THE WHOLE ENTIRE TIME @opal scaffold

opal scaffold
#

I bet you were downloading something in it while uplugging earlier

opal scaffold
#

So

gritty oracle
#

i swear on my life i only installed pop os mint and i kept in my pc and i forgot to unplug it for a long time i didnt drag the iso's just one by one

opal scaffold
#

go here

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

So search for "USB creator" in your menu

gritty oracle
#

once i searched usb nothing

opal scaffold
#

I don't know Xubuntu

gritty oracle
#

its like ubuntu but it uses the XFCE DE instead of gnome

opal scaffold
#

So, if you don't have USB creator, you need to install ventoy

gritty oracle
#

wait i can just get something on flatpak

opal scaffold
#

in Xubuntu you should have USB creator

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

wait i forgot flatpak is bad

#

balernaetcher maybe @opal scaffold

opal scaffold
#

NO

gritty oracle
#

aw man

opal scaffold
#

USB creator if you want

#

search USB in menu

#

you should have it

gritty oracle
#

i swear theres no usb creator

#

wait do i just do sudo apt install USB creator

#

or you will say no

opal scaffold
#

ok, download ventoy

#

select the tar.gz file

gritty oracle
#

okay good

#

do i extract

opal scaffold
#

yes

gritty oracle
#

do i drag in terminal after

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

a file in the ventoy installation

opal scaffold
#

extract it in a location you can found it

gritty oracle
#

in downloads

#

yeah? do i drag ventoyGUI.X86_64 in terminal

#

because i remember stunner helping me install it

opal scaffold
#

yes, try that

gritty oracle
#

and that part

#

i finally understand for now

opal scaffold
#

Option > Partition style > GPT

gritty oracle
#

install or update?

opal scaffold
#

Option > Partition style > GPT

gritty oracle
#

partition style is GPT ofc

#

you thought i forget?

opal scaffold
#

Install

gritty oracle
#

THAT WAS FAST

#

its installed @opal scaffold

opal scaffold
#

Right, you know have the proper "ventoy" partition

gritty oracle
#

yes i put .iso in here

opal scaffold
#

yes

gritty oracle
#

and wait 30 secs after installion .iso

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

yes but, wait

gritty oracle
#

when do i put .isos

opal scaffold
#

first, put the iso file, let it finish transfer

#

and wait

#

do nothing

#

tell me once it finished transfer

gritty oracle
#

linuxmint-22.3-cinnamon-64bit.iso this?

opal scaffold
#

yes

gritty oracle
#

uhh @opal scaffold why did it go up to 1 sec to almost 51

#

now its 22 secs

#

copying is done

opal scaffold
#

because transfer rate vary depending on available cache in destination media

gritty oracle
#

ohhhh

opal scaffold
#

the first burst of transfer is quick because of cache memory, but after, it get slow because it need to actually write data on chip

gritty oracle
#

ohhh understand EVEN more

opal scaffold
# gritty oracle

Ok, do no touch physically the USB stick, click the "Eject" icon

gritty oracle
#

huh

opal scaffold
#

wait for notification saying that USB can be safely removed

gritty oracle
#

uhhh none

opal scaffold
#

ventoy and VTOYEFI disapeared ?

gritty oracle
#

noo

opal scaffold
#

so wait for it

gritty oracle
#

do i close file manager and open it again

#

ig not

opal scaffold
#

no, you wait

#

you clicked the Eject icon ?

#

if nothing happen, you wait

gritty oracle
#

i didnt where?

#

@opal scaffold where

#

@opal scaffold where is the eject icon???

opal scaffold
#

wait

gritty oracle
#

both?

opal scaffold
#

one one

gritty oracle
#

okay

opal scaffold
#

only on is enough

gritty oracle
#

device can be removed

opal scaffold
#

since both are for the same media

gritty oracle
#

i clicked the ventoy eject button

#

and it told me device can be removed

opal scaffold
#

right

gritty oracle
#

remove the usb?

opal scaffold
#

that is is normal process to ensure that every read/write operation actually finished on the media

#

this ensure the media properly recorded data

gritty oracle
#

how do i check

opal scaffold
#

if you don't ensure that, you may unplug the usb stick while it is in fact processing, and then, data is corrupted

gritty oracle
#

what...

opal scaffold
#

and it told me device can be removed
That, when you have that, you know USB data transfer and processing finished

gritty oracle
#

when i clicked eject button on ventoy it told me that

#

so do i remove the usb

opal scaffold
#

unless you properly eject it and don't have this kind of message, you may corrupt data on USB stick

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

okay ill keep it

opal scaffold
#

Please, do you understad what I explain ?

gritty oracle
#

yes if i remove it might corrupt data

#

im wrong again =(

opal scaffold
#

If you remove it without properly ejecting it and before it told you and you actually can remove it safely

gritty oracle
#

right?

opal scaffold
#

now, you had this message, you properly eject, you could remove it, but don't : because we will restart

#

so no need to unplug it

gritty oracle
#

oh ok

opal scaffold
#

I wanted you to click eject and wait for the message to ensure that data properly processed in USB stick to be sure I/O operations finished

#

to avoid data error

#

understand ?

gritty oracle
#

i do but what is I/O

opal scaffold
#

In/Out

gritty oracle
#

like O Is right and I is not good

#

and im wrong again

opal scaffold
#

I/O = Input / Output = Read / Write

gritty oracle
#

ok

opal scaffold
#

"I/O Operation" = "Read/Write operation"

#

well... Restart your computer and boot to Ventoy USB stick

gritty oracle
#

i cant restart

#

i need to shut down my pc and open it and spam f8

opal scaffold
#

ok, do that

gritty oracle
#

Enter?

opal scaffold
#

yes

gritty oracle
#

Normal mode

opal scaffold
#

no

#

File Cheksum

gritty oracle
#

Yeah

#

?

#

Sha256sum?

opal scaffold
#

sha256sum

gritty oracle
#

I'll tell you if anything happens on sha256

opal scaffold
#

nothing will happen, but I need the final result

#

the final result will tell if ISO image is corrupted or not

gritty oracle
#

80%

#

Please please be good

#

@opal scaffold

opal scaffold
#

Take a photo so i can see the complete line

#

(should be obvious)

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

it's ok

gritty oracle
#

Actually

opal scaffold
#

press enter

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

where are you now ?

#

ok, boot in normal mode

gritty oracle
#

Omg finally I'm free from xubuntu

opal scaffold
#

not exactly

gritty oracle
#

If something goes wrong...

opal scaffold
#

you still have to install Mint

gritty oracle
#

Ik clean install

opal scaffold
#

you still plan to dual-boot ?

gritty oracle
#

Ik how to I stall drivers

gritty oracle
#

If it is then yes dual boot

#

@opal scaffold

opal scaffold
#

so installer crashed

gritty oracle
#

Okay so xubuntu too?

opal scaffold
#

I guess you did not pay attention and uplugged the stick while still I/O operation remaining

gritty oracle
#

What

#

@opal scaffold

opal scaffold
#

select Something else

gritty oracle
#

My phone is at 2 percent

opal scaffold
#

plug it

#

if you run out of phone battery, plug it

gritty oracle
#

So uhhh

#

@opal scaffold do I need to do the hard work

#

Wait let me type in discord firefox

#

@opal scaffold im in

#

@opal scaffold what now?

opal scaffold
#

wait

gritty oracle
#

ok

opal scaffold
#

show me the /dev/nvme lines

gritty oracle
#

ignore the phone thingy on the left top

opal scaffold
#

Quit the installer

#

click Quit

gritty oracle
#

okay

opal scaffold
#

and go to Menu > Administration > Gparted

gritty oracle
#

???

#

oh you want it to be easy to read

opal scaffold
#

it's enough to me

gritty oracle
#

okay

opal scaffold
#

so you want dual-boot yes ?

gritty oracle
#

yes

#

create partition?

opal scaffold
#

no

gritty oracle
#

oh okay

opal scaffold
#

Right click the ext4 partition and select Move/Resize

gritty oracle
#

resize|move you mean

#

@opal scaffold yes?

opal scaffold
#

yes

gritty oracle
#

i want 100/200 gb

#

or no 300 gb will fit me

#

since drivers programming and games?

#

@opal scaffold

opal scaffold
# gritty oracle

This si your Xubuntu partition, move the right triangle you resize the partition the size you want

#

use the mouse to move the black triangle

gritty oracle
#

black triangle???

#

ohh you mean that

opal scaffold
#

You see the blue rectangle ?

#

yes, I mean that

gritty oracle
#

what does the yellow mean?

opal scaffold
#

Yellow = Occupied space

gritty oracle
#

huh okay

opal scaffold
#

symbolic view

#

it's not as simple as that usually

gritty oracle
#

okay i want 300 gb on mint please

opal scaffold
#

so, resize the partition to have 300GB free

gritty oracle
#

no use numbers

opal scaffold
#

?

gritty oracle
#

like its mib and i dont understand how many is 300 gib

#

in mib btw

opal scaffold
#

1 GiB = 1000 MiB

#

So 300 GiB = 300000 MiB

gritty oracle
#

huh

#

@opal scaffold right?

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

another 0?

opal scaffold
#

No non not good at lla

#

damn

gritty oracle
#

sorry

opal scaffold
#

why did you set free space preceding ?

gritty oracle
#

im sorry i dont understand i hate my adhd

opal scaffold
#

Free space preceding : 0

#

Free space following : 300000

gritty oracle
#

and new size?

opal scaffold
#

don't touch new size

gritty oracle
#

652794 is normal right?

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

like this

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

no i want 300 GiB for mint

#

and all for xubuntu maybe

#

wait

#

how about half half?

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

yea

opal scaffold
#

put 480000 in Free space following

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

Yes, it's ok for you ?

gritty oracle
#

its half half right?

opal scaffold
#

almost yes

gritty oracle
#

its okay if its half

#

then done

opal scaffold
#

click Resize/Move

gritty oracle
#

so unallocated is for mint?

#

@opal scaffold yeah?

opal scaffold
#

wait for job to be done

gritty oracle
#

do i click it or right click it

opal scaffold
#

normal click

gritty oracle
#

@opal scaffold

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

clicked apply

#

can i now lay on my bed and wait?

#

its going fast

opal scaffold
#

Tell me once it finished this operation

gritty oracle
#

@opal scaffold

opal scaffold
#

ok, close

#

Then in Gparted, select the Unalocated Space, right-click and New partition

gritty oracle
#

yeah

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

do that

gritty oracle
#

i think im in the right page

opal scaffold
#

Only set partition name and Label

#

Partition name: Linux Mint and label Mint

gritty oracle
#

what do i type

#

oh okay

opal scaffold
#

this does not matter technically, it's only to identify it better in installer

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

so this we we are sure this is the one we want to install Mint on

gritty oracle
#

this right???

opal scaffold
#

Yes click Add

#

then click the Green Check again

gritty oracle
#

okay

#

so after its done this

#

@opal scaffold

opal scaffold
#

ok, close gparted

gritty oracle
#

open install?

opal scaffold
#

launch installer and when it come select "Something else"

gritty oracle
#

something else?

#

@opal scaffold yeah?

opal scaffold
#

YES

#

I said "somethin else"

gritty oracle
#

sorry

opal scaffold
#

so, Something else

gritty oracle
#

whereeee

opal scaffold
#

then identify the Linux Mint partition in the list

gritty oracle
#

is the linux mint

opal scaffold
#

ok, it do not display partition label

gritty oracle
#

bad?

#

go back in gparted?

#

@opal scaffold do i go back in gparted or what

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

down to ubuntu

#

oh okay

opal scaffold
#

select the /dev/nvme0n1p3

#

and click Change...

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

Use as : Ext4

gritty oracle
#

theres only that\

opal scaffold
#

Check Format the Partition
Mount point : /

gritty oracle
#

right?

#

im double checking

opal scaffold
#

Check Format the Partition

#

Check Format the Partition

#

Check Format the Partition

#

Check Format the Partition

#

Check Format the Partition

gritty oracle
#

wait how do you not have slowmode

opal scaffold
#

OK

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

Continue

gritty oracle
#

oh finally

#

no more trouble

#

install now?

opal scaffold
#

yes

gritty oracle
#

just checking

opal scaffold
#

Continue

gritty oracle
#

its been hours since this problem

#

i swear to god..

#

if it failed

#

im going to crash out and drill holes in my computer

#

INSTALLING SYSTEM

#

OH MY GOD FINALLY

#

@opal scaffold im going to restart

#

wish me luck...

opal scaffold
#

it finished ?

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

go

gritty oracle
#

okay

#

Black screen shall I restart @opal scaffold

#

Hit the restart button on my pc ?

#

@opal scaffold ???

#

I'm doing it

#

Hit it

#

OMG

#

Finally

opal scaffold
#

it's xubuntu not mint

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

go in your BIOS setup

gritty oracle
#

Ik I just wanted to test xubuntu first

opal scaffold
#

ah ok

gritty oracle
#

Go in my bio?

opal scaffold
#

No no

gritty oracle
#

What

opal scaffold
#

if you selected Xubuntu it's ok

gritty oracle
#

its okay

#

sedenion how do i get custom grub?

#

the last thing

#

this is the one i want

opal scaffold
#

Open a new thread for that

#

I don't recommend you mess with grub

#

it's a sensitive part, avoid messing it up

gritty oracle
#

wait

#

i found one on github

#

i dont trust this

#

you know what

opal scaffold
#

keep your ugly simple but functionning grub Menu for now

gritty oracle
#

yes i forget

#

i need it to make my friends think im a cool linux tech guy

opal scaffold
#

once you become an experienced Linux user, try installing custom theme for grub if you want

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

yes, everybody started as newbie

gritty oracle
#

so do i install stuff on mint

#

like drivers and stuff that are in the shield thing to update @opal scaffold

#

what i mean shield

opal scaffold
#

I don't understand what you mean

gritty oracle
#

uhh

opal scaffold
#

you want to install things or update system ?

gritty oracle
#

yes that thing so i dont lose performace

opal scaffold
#

you want install driver, or run update manager ?

gritty oracle
#

and one last thing sedeion

#

wait i was going to ask to enable fast boot but im stupid for it

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

that "shield" icon as nothing to do with performances

gritty oracle
#

stunner told me how

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

No

gritty oracle
#

what

opal scaffold
#

yes and no

#

whad you think it is ?

gritty oracle
#

ohh yeah i know now

#

its like apps update

#

and terminal

#

and other important stuff

opal scaffold
#

Its for updating systems and installed programs yes

gritty oracle
#

okay should i go?

#

do i restart or what?

opal scaffold
#

ok, start to ask yourself : Whad do you want ?

#

What do you want ?

gritty oracle
#

i want to do stuff on mint before i go and let the computer rest

#

if i didnt do it then im screwed

opal scaffold
#

what is "do stuff" ?

gritty oracle
#

drivers and system update

opal scaffold
#

ok, you want to finalize your installation

gritty oracle
#

yes

opal scaffold
#

First, open Drivers Manager

gritty oracle
#

ik

opal scaffold
#

if you know, why do you ask ?

gritty oracle
#

you dont need to tell me i need to go in drivers manager then click the reccomened and restart then i go in the shield (system update) and update restart

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

...

gritty oracle
#

so you dont ask me again

#

sorry if i made it wrong for you

#

okay @opal scaffold do i install them

opal scaffold
#

install what ?

gritty oracle
#

drivers and system updates didnt i tell you

opal scaffold
#

If you want ?!

gritty oracle
#

wdym if you want everyone needs it after installing

opal scaffold
#

So do it !

gritty oracle
#

okay ill restart if that didnt work ill shut down and open

opal scaffold
#

why are you asking me if you already know ?

gritty oracle
#

so you dont ask me again?

opal scaffold
gritty oracle
#

you have adhd?

opal scaffold
#

are you trolling me ?

gritty oracle
#

IM NOT

#

i swear

#

okay no words

#

ill go

gritty oracle
#

it does?

#

or i can go in boot menu

opal scaffold
#

what are your talking about ? BE CLEAR

#

names things, add context

gritty oracle
#

omg if i restart grub menu dont open ill shut down and open

#

get clues?

#

i said i wanted to boot in mint right?

#

and you just didnt thought of grub?

opal scaffold
#

I don't understand, so... I don't know

gritty oracle
#

oh its okay

opal scaffold
#

sorry

gritty oracle
#

dont say sorry

gritty oracle
#

even i do

opal scaffold
#

you talk about grub that don't open, then about mint then not grub

gritty oracle
#

yeah

#

okay anyways im going in

opal scaffold
#

it appear to be a total mess in your head

gritty oracle
#

what?

opal scaffold
#

so clarify, and, maybe i could answer

gritty oracle
#

im booting in grub no way

opal scaffold
#

no way what ?

gritty oracle
#

@opal scaffold WHAT I HAVE 180 HZ HOW DO I HAVE 60

opal scaffold
#

open terminal, type inxi -Gx; mokutil --sb and show result

gritty oracle
#

Uhh

#

Sedenion when I applied the gpu driver I have it

#

I complained for nothing

opal scaffold
#

did you restarted after apply ?

#

you are trolling me

gritty oracle
#

Yes who wouldn't

opal scaffold
#

you ?

#

So

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

So, do you have problem or not ?

gritty oracle
#

No

opal scaffold
#

ok

gritty oracle
opal scaffold
#

I don't care

gritty oracle
#

Okay

opal scaffold
#

stop showing me all you do

#

I have a life

gritty oracle
#

Okay I just did that because I felt like it

dreamy pelican
#

SOLVED (Solution : use manual partitioning through live gparted application, before running up the mint installer)

opal scaffold
dreamy pelican

.

dreamy pelican
#

the royal fuck up was proceeding from this point : #1507513393538400428 message (destroying ventoy in the process) @quasi vortex , @opal scaffold always be aware for LVM horseshit - sometimes a user selection, and sometimes a case of dumb mint installer choosing the free space on wrong device.

#

the tip off is knowing is the target really sda?? or nvme0n1? was supposed to be the latter.

dreamy pelican
# gritty oracle

the other tip off is immediately after this. ^ Where was the divider/sizer graphic? went straight to a pre-write summary.
