Intel RST?
Yeah for some reason I cant find where to disable it
I cant install any Linux versions
Wanted to try cashy but it would just boot into black screen I got onto mint rn to the try and install cashy from mint but I cant install mint but made it to the desktop
Linux drivers for your printer and blue tooth should be automatic. Normally like Windows. You just run updates until it's all caught up.
Do you have secure boot off?
Yeah secure boot is off
Switch to standard in your motherboard BIOS AHCI instead of Raid0.
Thats the thing I think its locked away
On my laptop I dont have the option to change it
You can. It could be under an additional setting. Like fast boot, CSM.
Go into Windows. And follow these steps.
Lemme show you
Click the Start Button and type cmd
Right-click the result and select Run as administrator
Type this command and press ENTER: bcdedit /set {current} safeboot minimal (ALT: bcdedit /set safeboot minimal)
Restart the computer and enter BIOS Setup
Change the SATA Operation mode to AHCI from either IDE or RAID
Save changes and exit Setup and Windows will automatically boot to Safe Mode.
Right-click the Windows Start Menu once more. Choose Command Prompt (Admin).
Type this command and press ENTER: bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot (ALT: bcdedit /deletevalue safeboot)
Reboot once more and Windows will automatically start with AHCI drivers enabled.
Okay
Blame MS for locking out full Mobo access since Win11.
Yeah ive been doing a lot of reading trying to figure it out
Basically you access the BIOS from your Windows terminal. The Dos Prompt screen, CMD lines.
MS removing consumer ownership. Literally.
This can be a very sensitive process if you get additional issues. That expand to more areas. I recommend taking it into #⛑triage if it doesn't work.
You may have to in the near future also remove MS from your motherboard BIOS. It could be locked into your secure boot. Even if you disable it. There are easy ways to find out.
Boot options
You are installing Linux Mint onto a HDD/SSD?
The boot order should be USB first. Then install it to your SSD. Keep in mind installing, formatting will wipe the drive.
If you want to save multiple partitions on the same drive. Windows/Linux. Then you'll need to access the partition manager first. To clear out anything broken.
Nah I want to delete everything
Otherwise. Fresh install. Just change the boot order to USB first.
It'll load up Linux Mint. Then after 5-15 mins bring you to the install screen.
Booting onto mint r
It says clear all secure boot keys. Looks like you got some MS nonsense in there. Don't worry about it for now.
Did you try the Windows removal process?
I just showed my my bios I have no options to change sata operation
I did the first cmd command and went to bios
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_M_yOwBoCA8 You are looking for SATA configurations.
Get in your BIOS, look for advance mode, then advance options, and Sata. There you should find RST mode and be able to switch.
It's in there. You need to navigate around to find it. Sata config.
I just dont have this option in my bios at all
I did some reading it says Microsoft locks this feature on some laptops
Its hidden
This is a step by step video to access HP advanced options.
CTRL + F1 to activate full bios
F9 to boot manager
F10 to bios
bios hidde menu
bios menu oculto
bios unlock
hp pavilion 15
bios opciones avanzadas
bios insyde F16
Hp cs1050ng
Hold F9 at boot. First options ctrl+F1. F10.
Advanced should pop up.
Did all that
Didnt work held f9 same menu popped up, held cntrl hit f1 then f10 just brought be back to the same bios page no advanced
We narrowed down what you need to do. Access the advanced tab in the BIOS. You could try a reset to factory default.
You can always update the BIOS back. Same process as Linux. You install the update through the USB stick.
It's probably the security.
Default will send it back to it's original settings. All you have to do after that is boot from USB, disable secure boot.
I reset bios defaults
Restore Factory defaults. System Config/Load HP Factory Default Keys
Done
I can try an older bios version
But I dont think this bios has a flash utility ?
Load HP Factory Default Keys
That's fine. Try the method again and see if it works.
Hold F9 at boot. First options ctrl+F1. F10.
Ah I see it. Windows. Try boot from EFI file.
Does it let you select it?
Vtoyefi?
Yes.
EFI
Right i never had an issue running ventoy, I have ventoy on my usb and I have windows installed on the device rn
I can boot into windows whenever I just cant install Linux
Definitely take this to #⛑triage You are close to the solution. Let the know you, "Can't access BIOS/Advanced. To turn off RST/Intel Rapid Storage. Can't install Mint."
I don't want to walk you down the wrong path. It's a matter of changing one setting now.
Understood thank you for the help so far
Stunner is more familiar with BIOS blocks.
show the BIOS screen about Storage stuff
Sec
it should have some thing in Advanced
about SATA / nvme storage modes
put to "AHCI" mode not RAID
I dont have advanced
ok I saw it. second and third pics. and that's already set to non-RAID
so boot up Windows
ok
close that
open powershell or command prompt as administrator
and run powercfg /a and show it
this will show about hibernation policies
ok first need to turn fast startup off. it is in top area, which means it's on rn
powercfg /h off
next plug in your USB stick
press win+r and run diskmgmt.msc
once usb is in and disk management is up, hover mouse over the listing for the usb ... disk 1 probably
on the left side of diagram
hover right over 'disk 1' words
rigth-click and choose properties
then Volumes tab
what is the partition style/scheme?
Uhh
will say either GUID partition table or Master Boot record/ MSDOS
yes
ok did u manage to ever get Ventoy to boot up?
would have a shown a white screen with blue ventoy name
in very big letters
ok
so in this case, the best course of action would be to get Linux Mint Debian edition 7
LMDE 7
save to your Windows Downloads folder, then copy the ISO file onto ventoy partition
Well my goal was to get linux mint to work on the laptop and then install cashyOS
Because whenever I tried to boot into cashy is would go onto a black screen
you can experiment a bit with linux mint lmde
the regular mint installer in this case isn't letting you proceed, even though I'm quite sure RST is off
Understood so if i install lmde 7 I should be able to install cashy from there?
you should be able to install any distro from THIS point
what kind of video card do you use?
Old laptop so integrated intel gpu and Nvidia mx150
hmmmm
If I could disable the integrated i would but my bios doesnt allow me to
if u have fast internet, just test LMDE . get the ISO
did u copy it to ventoy?
Booting now sorry copy just finished
Ahhh I see
but i do know linux mint still have such driver still available
Booting into it rn
in any case, the pc really should always use the intel gpu for basic stuff like booting, and using the desktop and file manager, etc
Why is that? Im not familiar with a 2 gpu setup like this
Wouldnt just forcing the mx150 be better
I'm just saying the natural way is igpu gets used first, then dgpu gets put into gear when needed by intense applications
anyway, did u manage to boot live , into LMDE?
@rich harness
yeah. no dice
Alright
No worries I was just gonna fuck around on cashy and try to learn some stuff
Only way is to contact HP support, and tell them you want to disable the RST on internal drive
Its not really needed I was just bored
for linux
Thanks for trying though I appreciate it
they must have some secret code for the BIOS setting to show up
Yeah i tried to access the hidden advanced menu in bios but it didnt work
do u have an external hard drive?
Nah I do not unfortunately
Idk why they hidden advanced menu shortcut didnt work we have the same bios
This
maybe slight revision in BIOS?
I can try to flash an older one
note that if u have any important files on Windows, back them up somewhere.
even onto ventoy USB
Nah its good to wipe
because in some cases, disabling RST will make windows unreadable from then on
Idc what happens
ok
We good
gl
If you dont mind telling me where the flash tool is?
Or maybe my laptop doesnt allow me to do so
It was just like prior. You should have already flashed the BIOS.
Nah my laptop doesnt allow me to flash back
Were you able to get past RST?
Nahhh its fine though
